" Don't most girls want the whole college thing?" he asked looking at her. " Join a sorority or something" he said with a laugh. " You should atleast get your general studies out of the way. That is what i plan on doing than maybe travel or something' he said trying to make it sound like a normal kid no of days. In his day most were married by now and wanting to have children. " Sonya is going to end up having children before she goes to college" he said simply.

Ivan laughed. "and Sonya is just a jackass. A smart one yes and a boarderline sociopath" he joked as Sonya sat on the arm of the couch eating some Twizzlers. " You're not going to chase him?" he asked looking at his daughter. " Nah it's easier to sit wait and than pounce. I don't know why he does this he never wins" she said simply. Ivan shook his head and looked at Billy. " She should have been a boy" he said softly. " Really dad...if I was a boy I would be in jail with all the shit I've done"

"Sorority?" She snorted, nearly choking on her drink. "That's funny, Edward, and here I though you knew me. I can't even attend a sleepover without feeling... brainwashed. Noooo way," She rolled her brown eyes dramatically. "Studies, dorms, parties... that's good for you, really. Maybe you'll send me a post card from Europe," She joked, but knew she'd never get one.


Her face fell more so at the mentioning of Sonya and children. It seemed plausible, but... "You think so? I... guess I can see that." Rae herself didn't want children, nor had she ever. "She's very ambitious. Whatever she does, she'll be great at it."


Suddenly, her eye brow quirked, and her eyes lit up with questioning. "Is your phone ringing?"

Jacob had waited a few moments for Sonya to come after him, but frowned from the hallway when he never heard anything approaching. He poked his head out discreetly, inching forward and awaiting the assault.


Billy was genuinely amused at their banter, used to the way they conversed with each other. "You two, always talking nonsense."


His eyes were content, for a moment, but as another distant howl rippled through the air, so far away, yet he heard it clearly as if it'd been right outside there window, his gaze fell to the window, concerned, and curious.


Jacob, too, heard the call. It was Sam, but without shifting Jake had no idea what he was saying, if anything. He squeezed his eyes shut and focused on any near by footsteps, but wherever his brothers were, they were too far for him to pinpoint. Had they found something? Or were they just messing around?


He came out of the hallway, a lot more serious than before. "Hey, Sun? I'll be right back, okay? I have a... phone call." He didn't wait for an answer and headed outside, noting Billy had watched him leave with concern.


Jake started into a sprint once he'd gotten far enough from the house, just after tying his clothes to a strap around his back leg, and after building up enough speed, he lunged forward, morphing into a bronze wolf who moved at invisible speed through the forested area.


'I'm out. What's up?'


'Finally!' Quil groaned, we've been trying to reach you forever!'


'Having fun with your girlfriend?' Embry said tauntingly.


'He's always too busy for us,' Leah remarked, to which Jacob snarled.


'Rough!' Suddenly, Sam barked I'm response, and everyone quieted down. 'More murders, but on the outskirts of Port Angeles, not in the city itself. That's close, though. I think we should check it out.'


'That's far,' Embry complained.


'You're a wolf, it's not far. Don't be lazy.'

He was about to banter back with her about how great college could be but than he may give away how old he may be. College wasn't just all parties. There was something about him he enjoyed. " I will send you one" he said smirking abit as he was about to say more when his phone started ringing. He got up from the table to answer. He kept his back to her as he spoke to his sister. Another death...the wolves were going to be here soon Jacob knew that he was here...he was sure of it.


He walked back to Rae. " I need to get you back home" he said as he laid money down for the waitress. " My father wants me home...someone else was might have been killed" he said almost whispered.

Sonya distracted her dad asking for the pictures from their trip to Romania. " We got pictures of that church for you Billy" she said handing him pictures. It was of a grand catholic church with pictures and stain glass windows of saints and Angels with the heads of wolves. " It made me think of the cold ones story you told us in La Push. But the difference is the wolves were blessed by God or St. Micheal." she said softly looking at a picutre of her holding her little cousin in front of a statue of a she wolf suckling 2 children.

"Oh..." She glanced at her phone and sighed, it had gotten pretty late hadn't it? It was nearly eight.


"Another one?" She grimaced, scooting out from her seat. "That's... disconcerting. Was it... near by?" She frowned, "I don't even know if I want to know."

"Ah, so you did," He took the pictures. Had Jacob not run off, he'd be able to really focus on them. But the wolves only reminded him of what his son was, and what in the world he could be doing right at this moment.


"Wolves are a special breed," He told them wistfully. "Loyal, strong, smart, and they're the protectors against the cold ones, those that you've mentioned."


He furrowed his thick, black eyebrows and concentrated on the photographs, but his mind wandered. He was concerned. Murders weren't uncommon, but anything that caught Sam's attention was a threat.

'Look, I can't just run off-'


'We don't have time!' Seth clearwater whined urgently from farther off.


'I'm faster than all of you, don't worry.' Jacob smirked, and headed back to the house. He morphed back, changing back into his clothes and hurrying inside, urgency in his presence and his eyes apologetic. He grabbed Sun gently and kissed her, giving her that 'knowing' look. "Sun, I'm really sorry, but Sam... Says there's an emergency we need to check out."


"That so?" Billy inquired. "You'd best..." He seemed hesitant, "-Get on it, then..."


"I'll come take you out for dinner or something tomorrow, alright?" He asked her, puppy dog eyes pleading for approval. He didn't know if he could manage ignoring Sam's orders, but for her, if she needed him to stay, he'd try, at the least.

Edward had taken Rae home and after that not much was heard from him. It had been a week and he had bearly spoke to her after that night. His family was thinking about moving. To get away from the killings and really the wolves. There had been some fighting between Emmett and some wolves when they came sniffing into town. He was happy ot was Friday again his Family would be going out of town camping. He could get away from everything...away from his lingering thoughts of her...it was hard though so hard.

Sonya was already out in La Push. She was staying the weekend out there since her dad had to go look at some stones for the Brownstone. She had gotten her puppy Loki and at the moment her was playing out in the grass outside the Black home. Sun was sitting outside with Emily talking about her and Sam's up coming wedding. Sun and Emily had bonded quickly to each other...it would seem to some Emily was becoming her best friend now.


" I'm not sure if I want to do long sleeved or short" Emily said meaning her dress.


" Do a half sleeve" Sun suggested. " And make it lace so you don't get too warm."

"Rae! I'm going to drop your sister off at her friends and then head to work, are you sure you're okAy by yourself?"


"Yeah, I'm fine."


"What's the number for 911?"


"Mom!"


"Alright, alright, bye."


She grimaced as the door slammed shut, she was officially alone. Alice wasn't coming over, that much was clear by the way Edward had avoided Rae all week. She'd racked her brain trying to figure out what had happened, but to no avail. Sun was so caught up in life on the reservation, she'd hardly called or me up with her during lunch, either. The loneliness wasn't new, but... she'd hoped it wouldn't be this way again.


She rolled over on her duvet, angrily tossing her phone across the room, but the case kept it from breaking. She sighed, about to turn over and scream into her pillow there was a sudden eeriness that made her skin tingle. She always felt creeped out when she was alone, but this time? It was legit.

Jacob had morphed and sprinted over to where Sun had told him to meet her and Emily. He morphed back, changed, and hopped over the fence, just catching Emily and Sonya in conversation about necklines. He didn't eeeven want to know.


"Hey you two," He greeted cordially and jogged over to them, about to sit down when he heard a bark, such a familiar noise made him whip around, but his eyes fell to his feet, where he found a little white fur ball with a lopsided tongue hanging out, admiring the wolf inside Jake.


"Hey little guy!" He cooed and lifted him up, the scent of both of them strong to each other. "This the puppy you've been after?" He asked, but he knew it was. "He's awesome!"

Edward had been ready to go hunting with his family when Alice had a vision and...it was one he had to stop it. He wasn't going to let Rae to be one of the next bodies found. He speed through the town to get to the girl's house. He knocked on the door quickly. He hoped that him just being there would chase off the other vampire. This was his family's land...maybe he would realize that. He knocked again almost pounding on the door. " Rae...open up" he yelled.

Sonya smiled seeing Jake and than Loki cuddle with Jake. " isn't he though?" she said happily as she put her hair up in a messy bun. " I have a play pin in my car to put him in for tonight. Can you get it out?" she asked as the puppy started to bounce around the yard trying to chase any bugs that he saw. " Rumor is the Cullens are wanting to leave"

Rae sat there on her bed, bewildered. Who the hell was at her door? She didn't move, waiting statue still till he knocked and called her name. She exhaled, relieved.


She hesitantly opened the door, incredulously staring at him. She knew he wouldn't have come here if it was important. "...What's wrong?"


Meanwhile, on the roof tops of the complex, a figure loomed, sensing the presence of another Vampire but staying in their place, curious to know why one was here associating with a human.

"Yeah, I'll go grab it," He nodded, watching Loki play around the yard, jubilant and bright white against the dark green grass. He'd been smiling up until she mentioned the Cullens. He crinkled his nose.


"Leaving? Yeah, cause that's not screaming 'we're guilty'," he scoffed. "We'll check it out. No way they're getting out of this without a fight."


He jogged to her car to grab the play pin, thoughts revolving around which Cullen he'd tear apart first. He'd have to fight Paul for the biggest one, but that wouldn't be a problem.

Edward stepped inside looking around a bit. He seemed to be on edge. "Have you noticed anything weird?"he asked as he started to look through all the rooms. " Some one watching you or your family"


Sonya smiled watchino as Jake brought her things. " Feed them and they will do what ever you ask"Sun said with a laugh. " I was thinking were him out than we go grab some dinner'she asked as Loki whined at her to be picked up.

She watched him incredulously, arms folded across her chest as he started to search the rooms. "You ignore me all week and then bust in here asking about stalkers?"


She felt a bit of a shiver roll down her arms as she considered anything out of the usual. She might have been upset, but she knew he asked for a reason. "...I heard noises, earlier. And it felt really... weird, in here. Kind of like being watched, yeah," She nodded, and walked over to him. "I just... figured it was my usual..." She trailed off. What would she tell him? That she was clairvoyant? Yeah, cause that wasn't weird. Then again, he was a strange one himself...

The figure, hooded in black with eyes red as blood, jumping from the rooftop, swung down the railing and with a Vampiric speed slipped past the window, running. He'd seen the amount of coven members this one had with him, and knew right now he was outnumbered.

"Hah, whatever," Jacob grinned, albeit a little sheepishly. He listened to Sonya and nodded, sounded like a great evening to him. Dinner, he couldn't even remember when he ate last! Oh... right... an hour ago.


"Tire him out, huh?" Jake grinned, grabbing one of Loki's toy balls and readying the pitch. "Alright, boy, gooooo…!"


Smash!


"Damn it," He grumbled, watching as his thrown ball sailed through the air, over the fence and right through a neighbor's window. He winced, "Superhuman strength has it's downfalls. Maybe we should use sticks."

" I had my reasons"he said as he started to look around the house once more to really make sure that whowever it was was gone. Well maybe it was just a passer by or it could be the vampire that was killing....Emmett would be passed it wasn't a wolf.


He turned to look at her. " What would you say if I wasn't human"he asked walking to her. "What if your friend had a reason to hate me"

"Jacob William Black"Sonya said as she picked Loki and kissed the pup'a head. " Also we need to get some groceris for Sunday dinner"she said as she set the pup back down to let him play with a frog. " Your choice chili or pasta"she said as she looked at her werewolf boyfriend. " And we can get whatever else you may need"she stated than flicked his ear." And now more throwing balls"

"Well, that depends, what are you?" She asked him, and though most would be completely put off, or even more so, creeped out, she maintained a straight face, only showing curiosity. She folded her arms over her chest and leaned against the counters "And what does Sun's dislike towards you have to do with it?"

He flinched at the contact, but grinned all the same as she continued to speak. "Whatever I need? That's an expensive grocery list, Sun," He laughed lightly, momentarily listening to the quiet. But there were no howls of alertness, or weariness or foreshadowing that he could pick up on. So he let it go, and returned his attention to Sun and Emily.


"Lets head out then, yeah?"

He sighed. He wanted her to figured it out than maybe it wouldn't put anyone at risk if she knew what he was...she figured it out on her own..he just had to point her in right way. " What is something Sonya's family and the people of La Push have in common?" he asked gently. "A fear of legend....do you know what their legends are about" he said knowing Rae had to be around them enough to hear the stories of the "cold ones" and the Stragori. " All legends are based in fact one way or another' he said stepping closer. " Or some legends are made up to help hide monsters."

She smiled and put the puppy in his play pin with food and water and tucked in the tired pup like a baby. Soon they were on the road...after alittle fussing about who would drive and Sun won this around. She pulled out of La Push in her sage green mustang. " So joined and my first game is next week" she said softly. " Are you going to be there?" she asked as she hit the highway. " I think Em was talking about going if Sam wanted too" she said looking over at Jake.

Is he saying what I think he's saying?





"So, you're telling me in a riddley, ancient story like way, that you and your family are vampires, and considering the obvious rivalry, Sun and the La Push natives are spirit warriors? Or... Werewolves?"


"If you're trying to get rid of me, something like that won't scare me off, in fact I just... relate to you, more."


She locked the front door, and then plopped down on the sofa, gesturing for him to sit with her. "So that's what's up? And what you said about Emmett and a fight on the border, it was... true, just... different."

"Really? You joined up?" He asked, thoroughly surprised. Not because he didn't think she could play, but he didn't think she'd actually join just cause her dad recommended it.


"Heck yeah I'll be there!" He exclaimed, bumping his head on the roof as he shifted in his seat. He glared at it for a moment, before returning his gaze to the beautiful woman beside him. He leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Like you even need to ask."

He just a simple nod when she asked if he was a vampire. He really didn't want to out right say it incase the other one was listening. That was the last thing this town needed the Voultori to come over run this small town. " Yes...they are werewolves" he said simply. He could tell what the wolves were no problem. " They are also the ones who attacked Emily Clearwater." he added. Everyone knew about Emily Clearwater and when she was attacked by a "bear". " They think my family and I are the ones doing the killings but we do not feed off humans...not anymore atleast"

She laughed when he fought with the seat. " Well there is a deal in place for me to join the volleyball team. If I join and do well and get a scholorship somewhere...I get to keep the money that is in my college fund to do with as I please" she said softly. " Oh and I got a shirt to wear when you come to the games" she said. " Rae has been all out of sorts since Edward stopped speaking to her" she said shaking her head abit trying to drive the speed limit. She knew Jake hated it when she as her dad said " Drove like a drunken bat out of hell on a cell phone"

"Ohhhh," Was all she managed. Mentally, she put the pieces together, and was relieved to find his explanation, albeit brief, gave her a lot of answers she'd inadvertently been searching for. She ran her fingers through her hair, letting it fall effortlessly.


"Thank you," She met his gaze. "For letting me in. Really wish Sun would have told me, though." She frowned, pulled her hair back and sighed. "Your secrets safe with me, Edward. Promise."


"Meanwhile, does anyone know who the real murderer is? I'm assuming no," She stretched out on the couch, completely at ease with new information. Her life revolved around oddities and the supernatural, if anything, it was comforting to not be the only outcast.

"Hey, that's an awesome deal! You'll kick ass and have that extra money in no time." He said encouragingly, stretching out a muscled arm and resting it behind her chair, he felt fairly cramped in here- then again, with his growth spurts, he felt cramped just about anywhere. Even his bedroom was seemingly shrinking! "Can't wait to see the shirt," He grinned, though it notably faltered at the mentioning of her friend Rae and the bloodsuckers.


"She's stupid for thinking the leeches are her friends," He scoffed, remembering the one time he'd seen her with 'Edward', relaxed and smiling in the presence of a murderer. She always smelt like them, so he couldn't help but crinkle his nose at the mentioning of her, sometimes he just associated her with the leeches. "You already tried to keep her away from them, she's just deluded thinking she's wanted. Not our problem." He scowled a bit, obviously on the defense. She was actually a really sweet girl, but because of who she chose to be with, Jake disliked her greatly.

The weeks had flown by. Edward and his family had thought it was just a passer by who had been at Rae's. They hoped that was the case. Edward had been spending more time with Rae. He wanted to protect...he had a need to. But he knew it was causing strain with the friendship with Sonya though part of him didn't care. Soon enough she would be stuck in La Push forever but it didn't matter. Class had ended for the day and he walked to Rae. Early that morning people had been talking about the death of Sonya's mother. She had been in a mental hospital and had been found unresponsive on the floor of her room. " How are you doing?" he asked more worried about Rae than anyone else...even the family.

Sonya sighed as she got back from the funeral home with ehr father....it was so hard planning this...so hard. She got out of the car and just sat on the railing of the house...all day people had been dropping off food. She ignored them. Her phone would ring and even if it was Jake...she would ignore it. She didn't want to talk to anyone...her mother had attacked her. Told her she was going to hell tried to kill her and not she was gone. She sat on the railing of the house watching as Loki played in the yard.

Seeing Edward made Rae visibly relax. The passing weeks had made her feel more like a Cullen than a student, she'd been with Edward and Alice a lot, even sitting at their table, cause Sun just wasn't clicking with her lately. Today, it was the worst, though, and with good reason.


"Oh, I don't know," She sighed as they walked out into the parking lot, droplets of rain already starting to fall. "Sun's hardly spoken to me, and I've tried to text and call her, but I gave up around third period... She's just not responding. I understand why, I just... don't know what to do. I feel like I'm losing her, but she doesn't really let me in... not like you do."

Jake had been wandering La Push all day, mostly in wolf form, conversing with the pack about Sun's mother and the other news, though they mainly just worried about her. He'd been given the Alphas order to stay wolf, cause there'd been several murders just last night that had the wolves on edge, so he couldn't see her, badly as he wanted to. He'd tried calling several times against orders, but she wouldn't pick up, even for him.


He sent one of probably one hundred texts to Sun, frowning gravely at his empty inbox. Babe, please call me. I wanna come see you as soon as Sam lets me go. I love you and I'm so, so sorry you're hurting.

Edward sighed. "Well we can go grab something for her and her father to eat"he offered gently. " Maybe that will let you in"he offered gently. He hated seeing her so hurt. " I will even get out of the car with you if the wolf isn't there"he said as he leaned against the locker taking her hand in his gently squeezing it to try and comfort her.


Sonya rolled her eyes seeing the text from Jake. She had begged him to come last night but he hadn't answered his phone orders had him out as a wolf. " orders orders orders. That is all you care about I needed you last night and you picked Sam over me"she sent to him picking the puppy up and headed inside.

 

[Raerae]

Rae smiled as he held her hand, exhaling as he alleviated her stress. "Really? You would?" She asked.


After pondering over the idea, she nodded. "I think that's a perfect idea," She told him, and briefly, gently embraced him in a hug. "Thank you, Edward."


She just had to make it up to Sun. Surely showing up would show she cared?

Even as a human, Jake snarled, his hands shaking as he read the text. How could she say that with everything she knew? He didn't have a choice! No one could disobey Sam when he ordered it. And it was Jacob who was doing everything he could to make sure the murderer never enters Forks and hurt Sun.


He thought of all the smart remarks he could make, all the come backs, sarcastic and bitter. Yet all he responded with was that he loved her. Cause when it boiled down to it, he was almost certain that no matter what he really did love Sun, and he didn't want to add to her pain.


Then, an idea hit him. He was human right now, for a little while, right? Sam couldn't order him around in this state. He knew disobeying was consequential, but didn't want to lose Sun over some murderer they couldn't even find. He decided that he'd just go see her. She deserved better.

He hugged her back abit. " Yes I will take you and ignore and smart ass remarks she makes"he said as he walked her out to his car. He helped her into the car before starting to drive. "Let's just get a cake or something I am sure that plenty of people have brought them food"he said softly. He found himself praying the wolves weren't there.

Sonya had changed back into her sweats and was just sitting on the bed trying to clear her thoughts. She sipped her drink looking out of her window seeing the Clearwaters dropping off more food. She did fell feel kinda bad for what she said to Jake but still....she was hurt.

As Edward suggested, the two had stopped by a local bakery and picked up a double fudge, chocolate cake, something Rae thought Sonya would like.


With Edwards driving, they arrived at her house just minutes after the pick up. "...I don't know why, but I feel really apprehensive all of the sudden." She told him as she slipped out of the passenger seat, gazing at her friends house that was, at one point, so familiar to her, but now it looked foreign, like she hadn't been here in years. "What if Jake's here and he gets mad at me?" She murmured as she walked up to the porch, suddenly worried, as animosity made her nervous.

After changing into something more suitable than a torn up shirt and shorts, Jacob mounted his motorcycle, revved the engine and started for Sonya's residence, thinking over what he'd say and deciding to stop by the nearest little reservation shop to purchase some flowers.


I'm coming over whether you want me or not. He texted her, smirking a little as he sent it.

" He's not here"he said as he sniffed the air a little not catching the stink of a wolf. He sighed as Ivan opened the door. Edward hadn't met the male before but he could tell he was the type of man who always smiled even now with pain in his eyes he smiled. " Hello Rae. She's upstairs if you two want to go up. "He said taking the cake to put on the counter.


Edward stepped back from the door. " I will wait for you out here"he told Rae gently figuring give the girls time alone.

"Thank you," She told Sonya's father, and after nodding to Edward, she entered the house, taking slow steps upstairs while she thought over what she was going to say.


She came to her friends bedroom door, staring at it as the memories of all the times Rae had come over, back when Sun and Jake weren't quite as serious as they were now. Seemed like a life time ago. She knocked on the door rather loud, both hands slipped into her back pockets while she put on her best smile, though it really just seemed like a lopsided mess.


"Sun? Hey, it's... Rae. I brought some fudge cake! I thought, maybe, we could..." She trailed off, wondering if her closest friend was listening or not. "...We could talk, or... something. I haven't really seen you in weeks..."

Loki was barking at the door as Sun got up and opened the door. Her eyes looked like they hadn't slept all night. " thanks"she said softly. "Jake is on his way so you shouldn't stay long with him"she said as she sat back on the bed. " the funeral is Wednesday"she said running a hand through her hair.


(I'm going to have her snap at Rae at the funeral)
