Penelope tilted her head to the side curiously at Melody's response. She still seemed shook up about something, but it wasn't like she could really push the matter, not since scent was the key factor she was using right now to determine Melody's state of mind. "Well," she said with a smile, "if you wanna talk, I'll listen." She offered, deciding to leave it at that.
"Vacation day?" Ariao muttered, puzzled. What would cause Mr. Fractris to need a vacation day right at the first day of school? Sick day, sure, she could believe that, but this? Was there something else going on? She was so deep into her thoughts at the news that she didn't even hear Leo stand up and head to the front of the room.
"Ha! That's what everyone thought of her father until the murders came to light. And who WOULD believe it? The most respected DA between here and Wyland having a penchant for murder? She's learned all his tricks and is playing them out right before everyone's eyes. My friends and I are the only ones who know the truth while she spends the days setting up the front of hers so that no one suspects a thing." Jonas said darkly, his eyes relighting in fury the more he talked about it.
She raised an eyebrow in confusion. "I don't really watch the news, but I don't think I've seen anything about her." Her golden brown eyes watched him intently. It was strange that this was the first she was hearing of any sort of trouble around Ariao. She paused for a moment, before it suddenly smacked her. Jonas had made a comment about her father, so it was probably something revolving around him. At first she was trying to think of any articles done on a teenage girl, but she was going about it all wrong. "What did you say her last name was?"
She gave a small nod at the last name. Gavin was the last name of the guy who had been arrested for murder recently. Brandy had heard slight whispers, but never paid attention to them. Honestly, the only reason she reacted the way she did today was because he had simply thrown mud at a girl's father, something she was all too familiar with. An almost heaviness sank in her chest as she watched the way Spencer's face changed when talking about Ariao. Was it an envious feeling? Maybe. After all, she had spent a number of years on her own. Though the feeling didn't seem to fade away soon enough.
She continued walking along him before reaching their new class room's door. "I understand." She gave a slight nod, talking more like an employee at a new firm more than anything else. She gave once last look at him, her brown eyes glazed over. "Shall we?"
She gave a small salute, suggesting she really didn't care, but it did hurt a little. What did she expect though? She had just formally met the guy. She growled to herself, tugging her ponytail into a tighter grasp. This is why she didn't have friends. She got too attached too quick. She was better off hanging by herself. No expectations and, therefore, no disappointments. Quietly, she reached for her bag, aiming to pull at some sort of notebook for note taking, but was met with nothing. Wide eyed, she looked down to see her bag wasn't there. She had left it in Ms. Magia's room. Another low rumble escaped her as she slumped back in the chair.
