He leaned back, the deep cowl of his hood enshrouding his face in shadows as sharp grey eyes took in the bustling room. dozens of people, all races and classes, jostled about some attempting to get a look at the quest board, others called for music, as a small group got together for a dance, and bystanders moved cheerfully out of the way as tavern wenches bustled about keeping the drinkers supplied with ale and warm mead. A large boar roasted over an open fire in one corner, under the watchful eyes of the man turning the spit. A drum began, joined by a fiddle and a flute mixing together to make a jaunty tune, and dancers began to step and twirl about the room. A merry place was the taproom of the Guildhall.

Elijah looked at the Guildhall that stood before him. He looked down at a slip of paper before crumpling it up and tossing it to the side. He had finally made it to his destination. Elijah walked up the steps slowly, his hood on and his book tucked away. He could hear the merry music and festivities going on inside. He smelled meat being cooked with plenty of ale and mead in the mix of it all. Elijah remained completely quiet as he entered the building, looking around for a place to sit.

Upon seeing a single chair at a surprisingly empty table, Elijah went towards it and sat down. He waited patiently for an opportunity to look at the quest board, not wanting to be in the group of people flocking around it. He took note of the tavern women, the men drinking, the music, the merry time everyone was having, and the numerous races. Elijah began writing something into the table with his index finger, burning a glyph into the wood as he waited.

The serving wench noted the entry of a newcomer. She hadn't seen him before, but then, as non-guildmembers were commonly seen in the tap room, this was not entirely unprecedented. Shaking off the unwanted solicitation to dance of a slightly inebriated patron, she continued her rounds. Finally making it to the table where sat the newcomer, she asked, loud enough to be heard above the cacophony of music and laughter, whether he wanted some ale.

Elijah looked up at the woman, his eyes piercing and stoic. He looked the serving woman over, observing her features. Elijah didn't care at how obvious it was that he was 'checking her out'. Once finished, he looked back at her then nodded without a word. He had time to kill so he might as well drink a little. Elijah didn't like drinking on an empty stomach though, so he was hoping there was a chance he could get something to eat before getting his drink.

She blushed a little as he looked her up and down without saying a word. Was that a nod? Definitely, she nodded back and moved on, wondering if he wanted food or drink, or had just decided she was decent looking. She couldn't tell. Kas would like this one, she thought, he always liked the odd ones. After deliberating whether or not to send one of the other back to serve him, she decided against him, electing to bring him a haunch of pork and a pint of ale, if he preferred mead or something else he could indicate it, and there was no reason to avoid him just cause he had looked at her. A motion caught her eye as she made her way back to the man's table. A man in a black cloak with a deep cowl that obscured his face motioned for her to approach. She did so, and he handed her a slip of paper, and indicated she should give it to the other one. "yes guildmaster." she murmured. And went back to her duties. She placed the tray on Elijah's table, a corner of the paper sticking out from under the plate.

Elijah took the girl by the wrist before she could walk away. "Tell your guild master to come to me directly... I don't dabble with undesirables..." He let go of her and began to eat and drink slowly, ignoring the paper entirely. There was an open chair across from him so he saw no reason why the man couldn't come to him in person. He also did not like reading while eating at the same time. Since Elijah was not one for eating fast it would save time if the guild master just came to him. Elijah wanted to know whether or not the guild master was someone to be taken seriously, or if he were just like the last person who tried to hire him.

The girl started as Elijah grabbed her wrist but waited as he said his piece. and then wrenched out of his grip. She didn't respond to what she could only deem harassment, and vanished into the growing throng of people.

Not long after, a voice whispered in Elijah's ear, cold as ice and harder as steel. "It ain't wise to touch my girls mage."

Syndra sighed, stepping from around the corner of the alley she had been hiding in. She wasn't used to large groups of people, but something had told her to come to this place. For what, she had no idea. Then again, it was often she was told to do something without a clue as to why. Most of the time, she didn't object. Carefully, she meandered toward the guildhall, her curiosity piqued. She paused at the door, listening to the laughter and music that boomed from the other side. She withdrew a deep breath, and walked in.

She visibly flinched as the noise assaulted her, but easily over came herself, and searched for a table. There weren't many that were full to the brim, so she shimmied herself along one of the walls to a fairly open spot that wouldn't put her in anyone's way. She leaned against the wall, and propped a foot against it so her knee stuck out. She watched the merriment carefully, and brushed her soft pink locks from her eyes.

Elijah spoke, his voice just as cold and hard, if not more so in its own mysterious way. "Sit down..." Was all he said as he continued eating and drinking. The glyphs he had drawn all around him and the table and chair began glowing. Elijah added, "Unless you want your building to crumble...?" He spoke. He had no threatening or demanding sounds to his voice the entire time he spoke. He was just very regular about what he told the man. He looked up quietly and saw a high elf enter. "Tend to her first..." He gestured towards the elf. "Watch yourself rogue... Making enemies is not something you can afford at a time like this." Elijah spoke, writing more and more tiny glyphs. The tavern girl's wrist began to emanate a glow from a glyph Elijah had left on it. The glyphs would continue to glow until the guild master moved away from Elijah.

The inebriated patron, his hopes of dancing with the pretty serving wench irresistibly dashed, was seeking some other partner to join the dance, noticing, a very pretty Elf, primarily because he tripped over her knee, he began, volubly and, rather incoherently, to request to dance with her.

Elijah was privileged to hear a chuckle in response to his curt, invitation? for the guildmaster to sit. And Kas, satisfied, walked away, so that Elijah had the dubious satisfaction of seeing his glyphs fade, before he had finished his glib threat to destroy the guild hall.

Elijah smirked as Kas walked away. He had slipped a glyph onto the wrist on the woman who he had grabbed. Elijah made the glyph explode, doing only enough damage to remove her arm painfully with a great amount of flames. He wanted to show that he wasn't to be taken lightly by anyone, even the person who he would have to be working for. Elijah was one for mutual respect, so for Kas to show none and even be condescending, it showed Elijah that the man deserved nothing from him so far.

Syndra smiled, though not exactly kindly, and shook her head. "I don't care much to dance, thank you." she stated coolly, shifting her foot so that her knee didn't stick out quite as much. She hadn't realized at first how many of the people there were beyond buzzed. She wasn't fond of ale, though she would drink it. Just not in excess. When the patron had continued to get her to dance, she pushed herself from the wall and excused herself. She looked around in an attempt to find another place to stand.

Music stopped and time seemed to slow, silence descended on the entire room when the girls arm blew off. Kas was surprised, but not worried. So that's the game he was playing aye? Well, let's see, thought he, if we cannot get to an understanding. The girl had screamed when the glyph had exploded, but she was silent now. Holding the stump of an arm, as she bled a puddle on the floor, she glanced at him, looking for permission. He gave an infinitesimal shake of his head. She smiled, her teeth seemed sharper now, like a predatory animals. Slowly, grotesquely, her arm grew back. She looked at the Elijah. "That tickled." She said, in a clear voice into the silence. Yellow eyes with slitted pupils flashed at him, but all she did was to rise, and resume her rounds, like nothing had happened. Several patrons, ran screaming from the hall. Including the drunkard. The music was struck up again, tentatively at first, but then everyone resumed their activities, paying only enough attention to the purple pool of blood to avoid stepping it it.

A man in a cloak, face hidden in the shadows of a deep hood, walked up to Syndra, and leaned against the wall beside her. "You didn't come to dance." He stated, not looking at her. "I don't think you came to drink, or make merry either." He continued conversably. "Just out of curiosity, do you know why you came here?"

Syndra smirked, but shook her head. "No, actually. I do not." she responded calmly. She hadn't been phased by the explosion, though was felt curious about the girl who was capable of regrowing body parts. "I was simply given a message to come here. It didn't see threatening, so I came." she added with a shrug. She let her eyes slip closed, and titled her head down so that it looked as though she were resting. Albeit, she was still very aware of her surroundings. "I'm guessing, from your questions, you do know why I've come." she concluded, her voice low. A small creature's head poked out of her pocket, which made her utter a short, small laugh. "In time, Gem. I have yet to find you food." she spoke to the animal, who seemed to blink knowingly up at her. In response, it pulled its head back into the pocket, and shifted, as if curling up to make its self comfortable.

He smiled in the shadows of his hood. People were always such fun. "I might have an idea about that." He said. "You're looking for something. I don't claim to know what, but if you weren't, you wouldn't be here. maybe we can help each other find what we're looking for. You, me, that mage over there who just blew my barmaid's arm off, he's a bit grumpy, but I'm sure he warms up when you get to know him, and the rest of the team."

Syndra glanced toward the mage in question, but didn't let her eyes linger on him. "His actions were unnecessary. There was no point to prove with injury to an innocent." she stated harshly, crossing her arms over her chest. "Your offer intrigues me. I would like to know what we are looking for, should you hear any information of it." she continued, her previous harshness gone. She pushed from the wall, "I guess I can go at least introduce myself. If he is to be traveling with us." she smirked, and nodded to the hooded figure. "I'm Syn." she said simply, and moved over to the table where the mage sat.

She yanked out one of the empty chairs, spinning it on a leg, and sitting down. She crossed her arms over the back of the chair and set her chin on her arm. She eyed the mage silently, before turning slightly to one of the barmaids. "I'll take a bowl of fruit, and some cheese. Wine to drink, if you have any. Otherwise, water." she stated calmly and returned her attention to the mage.

Kas grinned. He hadn't said they were searching for the same thing, very interesting they way people interpreted what he said. Maybe being human wouldn't be so bad after all. Still it had it's downsides.

The barmaid, finishing taking the order of another patron, turned when Syndra hailed her. She nodded at the order, indicating she understood, threw a venomous glance at Elijah, and went to the next table. When the food and wine, came, it was brought by the wench whose arm had been missing a short time ago. She placed the tray on the table, a white corner of paper sticking out from underneath the fruit bowl.

Syndra nodded, "Thanks." she said simply, and took a piece of fruit from the bowl. She inspected it for a moment, then popped it into her mouth. While chewing, she reached down to her pocket where her pet mouse, Gem, lay hiding. The mouse easily climbed into her hand, then onto the table, where it moved to the small plate of cheese and began to nibble on it. Syndra took another bite of fruit, and pulled the paper from under her bowl. She unfolded it easily, and glanced over it as she reached for her wine to take a drink.

Syndra's brow furrowed, "Magic?" she whispered to herself. She glanced around the tavern, but decided it would be best to look further into the paper in a less crowded area. So she folded it up, and slid it into a pocket. From there, she just continued to eat her fruit while Gem nibbled at the cheese. Eventually, she dribbled a small amount of wine onto the plate with the cheese so the mouse would have something to drink as well.

Elijah spoke stoicly, "You are the presumptuous type it seems. I would be careful about developing half witted opinions about others." He finished, ignoring the annoying barmaid and now looking at Syndra. "I doubt you even care for accurate information, so I won't bore you any longer with words. I am Elijah." Elijah spoke. He took out his book and began reading quietly. Elijah was watching and taking note of everyone and everything. He enjoyed how everyone just assumed things about him. It gave him the upper hand and made them open to plenty of mistakes and slip ups. The thought almost made Elijah smile. Almost.

"Not presumptuous. Your table merely had the only open chairs." Syndra responded coolly as she continued to eat. "Would you honestly force a lady to remain standing?" she asked lightly, a touch of humor in her voice. She fell silent as she watched the mage, absently studying the glyphs that had been burnt into the table. "Obviously you are one who cares not for others property." she mused, popping another chuck of fruit into her mouth. She absently ran a finger along the small mouse's back.

Elijah looked at her, raising an eyebrow. He broke out into a rare laugh at what both of her statements. "You are quite fun." He chuckled. "You talked about me behind my back to the rogue. That is what I was referring too when I said presumptuous. You have no idea that the man gave no respect to me. Nor do you know that he was rudely condescending. I made an example out of the girl because he took me lightly when he should not have. It was that, or I make the building melt. And I do not care for the property of an undesirable." Elijah finished. He eyed the girl, "I would not make a lady stand either. Although I have to know... Are you one to agree with the rogue and his actions? If so, then it would be wise to leave my presence... If not, then you are welcome to remain around me as much as you wish." He concluded, going back to his book. Elijah was hoping he would be able to find someone with half a mind that wouldn't take the side of the indecent rogue. He doubted he would though since people think with clouded judgement. "Maybe she will surprise me...?" Elijah thought to himself.

Syndra looked up from the mouse at the mage again. "I do not condone the way either of you acted, and if I recall my conversation, I did no such thing as to talk behind your back." she stated lightly, and turned her eyes back to the mouse. "I merely commented how your actions were unnecessary. The barmaid did nothing but deliver you a message, and sustenance." she continued, and paused only to eat another chunk of food. Her bowl was close to empty, so she slid it to the side, and leaned her head back down on her arms that rested on the back of the chair. "As for his actions. They were rather unnecessary as well, though I can see he was attempting to show dominance. He is the guild master, after all." she observed, watching the mage again. She thought for a moment, pondering on what exactly the mage had taken offense to. "It's the way of the wolf to show respect to the alpha when in enemy territory. Or do you not agree?" she asked curiously.
