Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

When Rinaa said how stubborn John still ends up she couldn't help but chuckle. That definitely sounded like John alright. "That much I have learned over the time of knowing him. He'll never change deep I feel, but that's what makes it so significant if he does let people in to his life." She replied to Rinaa. She could only imagine how much this must be taking for her to compute, how different she must be to her future self. Yet she made a promise with Rinaa that she'd show her how different she is, to let Rinaa see the real her. So far, like Rinaa was holding up on her end of the deal, Kay was too.

When it came to answering her question about their kid, she listened to Rinaa whilst just staring at her stomach. She'd have been lying to herself if she said she wasn't afraid of the answer would be, but she had to know. So she listened to what Rinaa had to say, and the nickname three her off guard. She wondered where the nickname came from but she didn't want to waste her last two remaining questions with just side questions like that. Kay nodded and half smirked at the competitive comment. "Thank you.." she told her for answering the question, though it made her sad that they were raised as cousins, and that Rinaa stated their daughter was a better person than she. "You're not all that bad Rinaa" she commented.

It had been hard for Rinaa to find the right things to say, without giving too much away or portraying her own personal biases too much. But everything she said was true. As Rinaa had been raised off world on various planets it meant that when she was on Earth, it was more like she was a visiting cousin than anything else. And to be honest, Rinaa was cool with that. She led various lives between the places she was raised, but her core group of friends was the same, no matter where she was. "But I'm not all that good either" the teenager shrugged, an answer that sounded exactly like what John, Elliott or Jay might say about themselves.

It was then that Jay emerged from the forge, giving a brief nod and raised eyebrow to the wrid pair of Kay and Rinaa before vaulting herself up and onto the roof in one smooth motion. Rinaa followed, copying Jay's parkour moves. "what's going on?" "A.J. finally got his ass in gear, and made an array big enough to get a tiny signal to Attil in reasonably fast time. There's still a long time delay though." was Jay's response as she angled the phone to pick up the signal better. "I'll have to patch him in to the Attil global comm network to make life easier, but it looks like things are working for once"

Kay understood that she couldn't give too much away, she had a decent amount of knowledge of consequences and the old butterfly effect to know that time travelling and revealing too much would cause consequences in the timeline. Every action has a reaction sort of deal, which is another reason why Kay didn't press any further. She just nodded when Rinaa said what she did in response. She sure did sound like John, Elliott and Jay in that moment, but it got her thinking, were any of them truly all good? She had her doubts.

When Jay emerged, she looked up and nodded back. She knew Jay found it weird, but before she could say anything the two of them vaulted up onto the forge roof. So she just pushed herself up onto her feet, deciding she should maybe head back inside to John and Chas. She wasn't going to interfere with Jay when she was clearly doing something important, so she walked back inside, shoving her hands in her jeans pockets and back over to John and Chas.

Jay had chosen the roof because it offered a better reception, the thick walls of the forge didn't help the signal to get through. Jay put her other arm around the teenager, asking a) if she was okay and b) how she was feeling with regards to meeting Elliott. As the message came through Rinaa explained the bones of what happened, not mentioning what she and Kay had talked about, just that Rinaa had had a bit of a break down, and Kay happened to be there and help her get through it.

John and Chas looked up as she came back in, they'd taken up a spot leaning against the back wall. Chas was standing straight, John slumped slightly, with one foot against the wall. Neither had any idea that she'd been talking to Rinaa, putting the teenagers absence down to her fear of fire, and presuming that the forge had become too much for her. "You okay?" John asked, really not wanting to become that person who asked "Are you okay?" after every single event ever. But he felt justified to be a bit like that at that particular moment, considering everything going on.

Kay walked over to the two of them, not regretting her decision to have helped Rinaa or then proceeding to let her have a private time with her mom. She was just glad that she did in some way help her get through her little break down. When John asked if she okay, she nodded, actually appreciating the fact he asked. "Yeah..just needed some air and in turn found Rinaa crying outside so helped her though it" she explained. She didn't want to go into too much information as it was between her and the kid after all, but she felt they had the right to know why she took so long outside.

"Ended up having a chat before Jay came out, so she's out on the roof with her" she finished, standing in front of them. "I miss anything in here?" She asked. She wondered if she should tell John what Rinaa told her about their kid or not, but also was aware he no doubt had his own questions. So she kept quiet on details unless either of them asked what was talked about. She also kept thinking about the nickname Rinaa gave their kid, 'celtic deer' it was bugging her not knowing the significance of it.

Chas shrugged "not really, Jay and Cal talked dangerous bladed weapons, sword throwing and blacksmithing, nothing surprising really. They seem to be getting on very well. And I'd hate to see what happened if those three" He added Cliff to that trio as well "teamed up." "And they've all decided to spar with each other at some point in the near future" John added "these people are totally obsessed with fighting each other." "The only other thing is that the signal from Earth has come through, apparently A.J. 's gang constructed a set of communication arrays that all link together to form a massive radio telescope, so I'm guessing she's going to set it up properly from this end so they have actual communication."

When Chas heard that Rinaa had been crying, his first instinct was to ask why, and if she was now okay. Rinaa was almost the same as his daughter, so he had a bit of a soft spot developing for the kid. "Do you know why she was upset? And is she okay now...or as okay as you can be considering everything going on." John's interest was also piqued, but for different reasons. "what did you talk about?" Both also took notice of the fact that the two had managed to have a normal conversation without insults or negativity aimed at the other.

Kay listened to what Chas said, informing her what had been going on. Suddenly Jay's appearance outside and route to the roof made sense to her. "That explains her going up onto the roof. With Rinaa in tow" she replied to Chas' information. The moment Chas asked if Rinaa was okay, she nodded, it was obvious to her what a soft spot he was developing for the kid. And of course John's interest in her other half of her statement didn't go amiss.

"She's fine now..at least, better than she was. It was the realisation of her dying that just got to her. So we had a heart to heart and hug and I managed to amuse her for a bit to take her mind off things. She also projected a memory of her with her mates onto me." She explained, answering Chas' questions and halfly answering John's before she continued. "As for our chit chat? Just random stuff, realising we have the whole depression as a kid sucks thing in common, told her how we all met which amused her and she told me she knows our daughter...and she called her Celtic deer" she said. She held back some information like the cousins bit, leaving John to take in the first part of the information.

The first point John took notice of, was the projecting memories thing. "So she has some form of Elliott's abilities, I was wondering about that. Remember when he used to uncontrollably project his nightmares those first few years?" The last part was directed at Chas, who nodded. "Yeah, I do." It hadn't been easy to deal with that problem, but through hard work, and many, many sleepless nights, Elliott learned to lock down his unconscious thoughts almost all the time. Though the occasional one did get through when things got bad.

They all knew Rinaa well enough to know that she just wouldn't have offered this information out of nowhere, there were terms and conditions. "One of the three questions, I take it? I was thinking she might, considering she seems to know all of us here." John didn't know what the nickname Celtic deer could mean, but there was no doubt a story and some smart jab behind it. "Unusual nickname, I'm guessing she didn't give context too it? Or say much in general."

Kay nodded at John's observation about the projecting memories. "Yeah.. she didn't know she was doing it at first, until the memory ended, but she just went on to talk about it of her own free will." She simply said. She wasn't going to go into too much information about what she saw, because that was between her and Rinaa, and after Rinaa promised not to tell anyone about her private information of when she was a kid, it was only fair she kept the memory private too.

"Yup, one of three. I did wonder but just wanted confirmation kinda thing. Especially as apparently I'm so bloody horrible to her in the future, wasn't sure if I'd keep our girl away from her or something..and there was the whole worry if she didn't know her, then would something successfully get our baby. So knowing Rinaa knows her, kinda gives me about more hope she'll be okay ya know?" She replied to John.

She shook her head at Chas' question. "Nope, no context. Just said that they're connection is very complicated and they don't see eye to eye on alot of things, but when high on adrenaline, they're very competitive with each other. And that they were raised as cousins.." she explained. "I also didn't want to ask about the nickname and waste a question" she added.

They took the information in, it was a little, but a very significant little. As Kay had pointed out, it showed that nothing or nobody had gotten their hands (paws, claws or other appendages) on their daughter. Which was a relief for John, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to be bulking up the wards when back on Earth. "Just because you two don't get along, doesn't mean the rest of us don't get along with future Rinaa and would take both of them along for whatever stupid and dangerous thing we are doing." Chas added, feeling that he would at least try to make the two meet with each other without parental biases. " And we don't know when exactly Rina is from, but that gap between her and your kid can't be too large. It's probabaly easier for them to be as cousins then as aunt and niece, which would technically be their relationship."

That came as a shock to John, so not only was Kay pregnant, she was pregnant with Rinaa's aunt. " Mate, that just makes everything even weirder to think about, thanks a lot." "Yeah well.." The cabbie shrugged. "so that leaves what, five questions left. And I'm guessing the more specific the question the better, less room to lie by omission or to dodge the actual point."

Kay saw the relief on John's face, even if he did try to hide it. She knew he'd be relieved to know she does infact survive being born and growing up because she was too, though she did get the feeling he'd be protective over their kid ridiculously so and thus, before her being born, he'd be protective of Kay. She then took on board what Chas said, not being as shocked o we the family ties as John was. Only because she had those few moments to process that when talking with Rinaa. "Yes it's weird as hell but what isn't in our lives?" She replied to John's remark. "And I'm glad to hear that coz you know you're gonna end up being uncle Chas right?" She smirked.

"But yeah, it leaves 5 questions left because I didnt ask anymore." She confirmed. Of course, there was the information that she kept back. The bit about before Rinaa came out, she just knew their kid's name was Fia but has no idea why she knew that. She toyed with whether to tell them or not.

"Unfortunately true. I'm the only one out of us with a half normal life, and even then, it's crazy" Chas really did lead a double life. Threre was his life with his family and working as a cabbie, and then there was his life with John and co, involving demons, magic and a whole assorted pile of craziness. "I've already been uncle Chas both for Elliott and I suppose Gemma counts too, so it really isn't that much of a shock." "Gemma counts mate, even if neither of have have seen her for a few years."

John ran a hand through his hair when Kay said there were five questions left. He had many things he wanted answered, but choosing the right ones were important, though he had already decided on one question he definitively wanted answered, and he saw no conceivable way it could screw up the future. The rest of the questions were prying emotional ones, mainly pertaining to what everybody was like in the future, and the elephant in the room, why exactly Rinaa and Kay didn't get along. There never had quite been a satisfactory answer given for that.

Kay smiled and nodded when Chas had already accepted his fate as being an uncle to yet another kid. She knew she could trust Chas with little Fia without a worry in the world. Though she was pretty sure she'd still worry every time Fia left the apartment and have her followed. Just like Elliott did to them.

Like John, she had many a question she wanted answered, and unbeknownst to her, the question of why her and Rinaa didn't get along was in fact one that they both shared. It was just going through the others and figuring out which ones were important enough to need answers immediately, and which ones wouldn't fuck up their future. "It's just trying to figure out those five questions to ask now...but I still wanna know why I'm so different in the future...I can't fathom a single reason for such a change in me" she admitted, and by her tone, it was obvious it really was playing on her mind and worrying her. What she didnt add to that sentence, but wondered if by her tone, John would pick up on it, was that she was terrified of turning into her father.. just like he was with his.

"I have one question already that I'm definitly asking." John replied, which left only four more to figure out. "And there is one thing we shouldn't ask, which is what happened to Elliott, cos that'll fuck up the timeline too much. Not to mention the fact that it's a sensitive and personal topic. And yes, I do think one of us should ask why things between you two are at such odds, when compared to the rest of us." "That sounds like a sensible strategy....for once." "I have my moments"

Chas for once didn't have a theory on this, all he knew was that it was related to something that had not happened yet. "And for once, I'm at a loss as to why you might have changed so much." Both of the men could sense the underlying fear in her voice.

Kay knew even before John felt the need to say it, that they shouldn't ask about Elliott and what happened to him. She agreed with the strategy John had come up with with the questions. She let Chas speak in response, deciding that if he didn't have a theory about why she changes so much, then it just be something completely out of character for her.

"Agreed...I've tried to think of everything that could change me and I come up blank every single time. But the way she is with me at times? It makes me scared I'll become my birth dad...and I can't become him...John you know what he was like.." She said. John knew the whole history of what he did to her as a kid, and he certainly saw what he became before Rinaa presumably killed him, saving them both. Which just made the whole her being so evil to Rinaa feel weird. She got that she had to save her so not to screw up the timeline, but it didn't remove the weirdness of the whole thing any less.

So if John had one question he definitely wanted to ask, and they had the whole Kay and Rinaa troubled relationship question to ask, that left 3 more.

Chas knew John had a deep seated fear of both his father, and turning into his father, but he didn't know Kay felt the same way about hers. Then again, it really wasn't any of his business when it came to Kay. John didn't say much in response to that statement, just nodded soberly "yeah, I do." Had the two been alone, John would have hugged her and tried to properly console her, but they weren't alone, so he didn't. He understood her fear, and was certain that Kay hadn't had it as bad as he had, but none the less, it was still a destructive fear.

Jay arrived back down, Rinaa following behind. There was no visible signs as to how upset she'd been earlier. "What's the latest from Earth?" Chas inquired, doubting anything of real interest had happened. "Oh loads. Trump insulted a whole heap of foreign ministers on Twitter and is threatening North Korea with nucleur weapons, Ryanair are on strike again, and Brexit is still in absaloute shite." Jay explained with a sarcastic grin. "So nothing of interest actually happened then." "But if Kane's to be believed the weather is absaloutely lovely in Sydney right now." "Toby's pissed that she didn't get Sydney and is stuck in the pissing rain in San Fran."

Kay realised then that Chas hadn't had a he what kind of person her birth father was. Sure, it wasn't nearly as bad as what John had, and she would never compare her own tragic family past to his. That'd be highly disrespectful. But it was enough to make her hate him, and be determined to never treat another being like that. Kay also understood that if she was alone with John, he'd have responded totally differently. But she still knew he meant well in his reply.

With Jay and Rinaa reappearing, the tone of the conversation changed instantly and she was actually glad for it. That fear from the previous topic would only bring her down and she had to think about not just herself now. Of course it was very early days in her pregnancy, but she still felt like she had to remain strong for Fia's sake. She didn't know much about pregnancy but she definitely knew that negative feelings don't always help.

"She should be glad it's not Seattle..weather can be so much worse there if she hates the rain in San Fran" she commented, speaking from experience. "It's dubbed the rainy city for a reason"

"She's mainly pissed cos she think her half brother got the better deal and weather down under..... But if I know Toby, she'll be doing parkour stunts on the Golden Gate and having the time of her life picking pockets and buying crap" Rinaa explained. "That sounds like her all right." Jay agreed. She like Toby, the crazy former circus girl was always entertaining to be around and was a solid partner for parkour. "Anyway, the point is, I need to get my hands on as many laptops as possible, to hack into the network here and so I can communicate with the gang back home. I'm gonna raid the ship for stuff, but is it okay if I turn part of the apartment into an evil lair/tech hub?"

"Totally, if you can't get enough, ask Deke...come to think of it he's already hacked into the system on this end and inserted a backdoor, so feel free to call him up and exploit it." Cal replied, not phased at all by Jay setting up an evil lair in her home. "I'll probably take you up on that." Jay replied, glancing at her watch.

Kay just nodded. All she really knew of Toby after all was her insatiable appetite for that chocolate cake Kay made and how she barely left any for Elliott. When the conversation turned into needing as many laptops as possible and hacking the system, she partially switched off. It wasn't her expertise, and didn't seem to involve her so she didn't see the point of paying attention. Kay just kept trying to decide what other tree questions she could possibly ask.

2038

Fia was in her room reading a book about magic. She had a habit of taking books off the shelf and reading them, even if they weren't meant to be read or were on the list of 'DO NOT READ THIS ONE FIA! I MEAN IT!' and she somehow always got away with it. The book at hand now was filled to the brim with runes, spells and costs of using magic. Alongside that one, was another book that depicted the history of her mother and father. Despite finding it weird, she also found it incredibly interesting learning more of the things they would never speak of to her. The page was left on one story in particular and it was that page that made her read up on the runes. Just another one to add to the many already marked on her skin.

At that instant Cal's phone rang. She knew why too, it was the call to say that the systems would be open just long enough to get Elliott out. "Yo, it's Cal." Chas, Cliff, John, Rinaa and Jay all listened intently. As Cal spoke, she signed to Cliff who them relayed the message to the others. "That's the call for getting Elliott out...... We've only got a short window to do this in.... Deke's subbing for Elliott today, he's a shape shifter.....long story. Cal's gonna go get him and....he's coming to.....the forge, not the apartment. We've got two minutes to execute the switch." Cliff gave the running commentary of the conversation in Attili to the others.

Cal hung up, then turned to look at the others around her. "I'll be back in a few, and I'd recommend getting out of the forge, cos I don't want to accidently teleport myself into one of ye. Also probabaly worth figuring out which of you lot goes first in dropping bombshells on my little brother." Cliff gave her a mock salute, before Cal blinked away in a flash of light.

Kay snapped out of her own thoughts when Cal's phone started to ring. She looked up and listened just like the others were when Cliff was relaying the information about it being their chance for getting Elliott out of the cell. So it was time for everything to kick off...she knew now things wouldn't be so relaxed, not that they particularly were anyway.

As Cal explained about getting out the forge, it honestly made sense to her as to why. The last thing they needed was to get hit by Cal or Elliott when she teleported back into the forge. Particularly her. "Don't need to tell me twice" she commented, gladly leaving the forge and waiting outside for the others after Cal teleported out. She thought about what Cal said, about deciding between them all who goes first on the bombshell news. It would be tough to decide in her eyes. Part of her thought that him.meeting Rinaa was the most important thing and should happen first, but another part of her thought that where that is so important, he would no doubt want to spend alot of time with her to talk and meet her properly. Which meant, was it not better for her and John to drop their bombshell first? She had no clue.

Once outside, Cliff turned to the assembled group. The question on everybody's mind was obvious, have Rinaa introduce herself or have John and Kay tell their news. "Before you lot get any ideas, I'm going first, after all I'll be the quickest. There's not really much I have to say or do apart from confirming my existance and the fact that yes, I do want to marry his sister." Cliff knew full well that if she didn't get her (in her opinion) minor introduction out of the way, then it would never get done, considering everything else that was about to be dumped on him. And hers was the least shocking of them all. Cliff's statement dared anybody to challenge her on this.

Which nobody did. They all saw the logic in Cliff going first but that still didn't solve the more important problem at hand. It was clear from everybody's expressions that nobody knew who should go first. Both were equally important and significant. There was a lot at stake for Rinaa, but she made her call on the decision. "You guys should probably go first on this one."

Kay turned to Cliff when she spoke up, and declared that she should go first. It made Kay feel like an utter selfish bitch because she had forgotten for that brief moment that Cliff still needed to properly introduce herself as Elliott's future sister in law. Kay would never dare challenge Cliff on the decision, and looking around at the group it was obvious they all thought the same. There was logic in the thinking, and it was only right for her to go first.

Yet they were still stuck on who should go after Cliff, until Rinaa spoke up and said for them to go first. "If you're sure Rinaa." Kay replied softly. She wouldnt let the kid back out of meeting Elliott but she did appreciate the offer of letting them go first. She wanted to show some kind of gratitude and fairness.

Nobody had expected it to be Rinaa to have the balls to make such a call. But she had, and she was going to stick with her decision, as she always did. "Yeah, I'm sure. Just don't fry his brains too much yeah?" She finished with what was fast becoming her trademark half smile, that allowed just enough of her fangs to be visible for an onlooker to confirm "Yes, those are indeed fangs". "Will do kiddo." John added, matching Rinaa's half smile with one of his. "I'm gonna wait on the roof, it's far more comfortable than standing at this wall for who knows how long" the teenager added, before running and flipping herself up and onto the roof in a wall practiced move.

"You might as well all wait up there, she has a point about it being comfortable." Cliff added, knowing that the teenager was referring to the old hammock and blankets herself Cal and Dan had stashed up there (along with some biscuits and booze). She then raised her voice, to ensure Rinaa could hear "everything's game except..." "the orange oreos?" "exactly." Cliff smiled, as the teenager flashed a thumbs up.

Kay appreciated the gesture from Rinaa. She smiled and nodded in appreciation as John replied to her second remark. The fangs not phasing Kay, like they did the first time. When Rinaa flipped herself up onto the roof, Kay just watched on. Though when Cliff suggested they all go up onto the roof, Kay was glad she wasn't further along pregnant otherwise it's be a hassle getting up there.

She took note of the extra info about how everything is accessible to them except for the orange oreos, and guessed they were either Cliff's or Cal's which meant they were off limits to everyone else. Unlike Rinaa, Kay went up a bit more carefully, still using parkour but she had to keep in mind she was carrying another being that at some point soon would be growing faster than a normal human. So she didn't want to cause any possible complications.
