Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay nodded, she agreed with the notion of allowing just some time to wallow in self pity does do the world of good sometimes, and it was something that she had both of them agree with her. Let out the self pity then crawl your way back up. It was something they all had that same notion and mindset.

Kay then simply shook her head when Elliott asked if there was anymore bombshells he needed to know about. They had covered the important information about their family growing, and what it meant as she came into the world, so there wasn't anything else that truly needed to be said. The whole name coming to her could indeed wait and that was more a conversation for her and John, rather than Elliott. "All you got now is to meet Rinaa...which you should do before she bottles out of it" she commented. It was also her way of saying she thought they had taken up enough of his time and he needed all the remaining time Elliott could have to have his meeting with Rinaa.

Elliott heard the hidden message in Kay's words. He was feeling nervous, excited, worried and slightly scared about the meeting. And if that was how he was feeling, he couldn't even imagine how Rinaa was feeling. This was after all the first meeting for both of them, Jay had emphasised that fact, while trying not to emphasise that it also meant Elliott would die at some point in the future, a thought that he could see clearly worried her. "Yeah, I know, I can't even imagine what's going on in her head right now.....Hells, this is so weird" Elliott sighed, running a hand through his long hair. The more he thought about, the more the doubts began to creep in. "Elliott, it'll go fine, trust me on this." John replied with the conviction that Elliott needed to drive the doubts away.

"Yeah, I trust you on this, there's only one thing I know for certain about this meeting." "And what's that?" "That it can't be done here. If her fear of fire is as bad as you say, then it's probably the worst place possible." "Shit.....you have a point." John hadn't even thought of that angle, and he supposed it was a good omen that Elliott had.

With Elliott's reply, Kay was glad that her hidden message and point came through to him. She could tell he was nervous among other things, she could tell because she was putting herself in his position. The idea of her daughter coming from the future also didn't completely go unthought in her mind. It just wasn't as much of a thought since finding out she was pregnant. She'd meet her kid at the right age in just six short months, Elliott head meeting his when she was already grown.

As John told him that it'd be fine, she nodded, adding to that conviction. Hell, the moment he thought about the whole point of her fear of fire made Kay incredibly proud of Elliott. It showed he had that natural instinct to be that father to a kid. "then I guess what you'll have to do is talk to Cal and find out where you can meet her, we" gesturing towards John and herself, "along with Jay can keep an eye on Rinaa until you come up with an idea for a meeting spot." She suggested to him. If he was declaring he'd do everything to keep her, John and their unborn girl safe, then she was going to do the same thing with Rinaa.

"I already got an idea, hold on a mo" He got up and stuck his head out the half door, and yelled up at the rooftop gang "Yo, Cal, get down here, I need a favour!" The response from the roof was snarky and followed by the laughter of Chas, Cliff, Jay and Rinaa. "Is that any way to treat your older sister who has been risking all sorts of crap to get your sorry ass out of prison?" The comment amused John too. Elliott responded with equally snark, but there was a humerus edge to his remark. "Okay, oh divine master of the universe with the almighty and altrue wisdom and unlimited power, can you bequeath us poor mortals down here with your presence for a few moments?" "Smartarse!" was the response, followed by Cal jumping down from the room.

"So, what can I do for you?" Cal asked, waltzing into the forge liked she owned the place (which she technically did). Elliott explained in rapid Attili, and Cal's face changed from surprise, to intrigue, and finally to a look of approval and respect. She nodded, responded in Attili before going back up to the roof to explain. "Well that's that sorted." "What did you say?" John asked, instantly curious.

Kay was curious the moment Elliott said he had an idea of where to go to meet his future daughter. The kind of curiousity that would have eaten her up if she didn't know what it was. She let him lean out the forge door to call up and she looked amused how he spoke to Cal, but rolled her eyes. With the reply that came back at him, she couldn't help but wonder if her girl would treat him in a similar manner and get away with it, or would they be at logger heads constantly. She got a feeling, being the baby sister, their girl would get away with murder when it came to bring round Elliott.

She watched as Cal came down and spoke with Elliot in their native tongue rapidly and her curiousity just got even greater. It just so happened that John was also curious and asked before she could. "Double that question because I'm curious too" she chimed in.

2038

Fia was practicing her her rune work and magic and failing, to the point she was getting frustrated. "Fia! Dinner!!" Came the call of her mother, and she sighed. She wasn't in the mood to eat but she knew she wouldn't be allowed to not eat. "Be right there!!" She called out, stashing the books and her scribbles under the covers. "I will make the spell work....I will figure it out..." She thought to herself, as she exited her room...

John found the two siblings highly amusing, reminding him of how he and his sister would snipe at each other all day long, much to the annoyance of Chas, and any other friend who happened to be in the vicinity. "Considering I haven't been here in a very long time, I don't remember everything about this place very well. And the time I have spent here has either been in the forge, the apartment or in prison. So I really don't know where the best place for this meeting is. So I'm letting Rinaa pick" he explained, hoping it didn't sound like a stupid idea when he said it aloud.

And to John, it didn't sound stupid, it sounded the exact opposite. "Bloody Hells Ell! That's brilliant." John exclaimed loudly, but not so loudly that the guys on the roof could hear him. "It just seemed to make sense, and besides, I don't want you nosy people near by." He meant the term nosy in a caring way, though the main point still stood. The only one who had any real right to be there and witness it was Jay.

Kay listened to the explanation and it did make perfect sense. It certainly didn't sound stupid at all. Though the only difference between her reaction and John's, was that she didn't exclaim her reaction in quite the same manner. She thought it was slightly over the top, just like how he thought her little 'yahtzee' when she found the hot sauce was over the top. Except her little thing was a habit she did when she found something that was well hidden.

"It certainly makes sense to let her pick. It'll make her more comfortable which will be a good ice breaker for you both. Good thinking." She replied to Elliott and there was no offence taken to his nosey people remark. Even she had to admit they were a group of nosey sods. "Can't deny we're nosey but I know when I say this for everyone, it'll be agreed. We respect your wishes to not have us around. It's the right way of doing things. We'll be around when you need us but otherwise, we'll stay away" she reassured Elliott. "I need tell this one" gesturing at John, "something that's between us anyway" she added, knowing she had to talk with him about the whole name thing and she knew Chas still wanted that private chat with the both of them also. So it seemed like the perfect time to do that whilst they let Elliott and Rinaa meet.

"Oh we're bloody nosy gobshites alright, and I guarantee that at least one person was considering eavesdropping." John admitted. "And besides I'm only a call away, Cal among other things has a whole heap of burner phones, a bit like what A.J and Kane devised for our gang. Cliff figures there'll be some day where we'll be against the clock, because the shit hit the fan, big time." The burner phone had been one of the first things Cal had smuggled in, along with headphones. There were going to be days where she couldn't get to him, so he might as well have some kind of entertainment, and he'd left his real phone at John's place anyway.

"Smart" John remarked. Cal rejoined them a few minutes or so later. In one hand she held Rinaa's teleport/time travel device, her own wrapped firmly around her wrist. They were clearly the same device, but Rinaa's had been modified. "Let's go, she's waiting." "Good luck kiddo, even though you don't need it, you'll know what to do." John told him.

Kay was pretty sure that the only reason John only admitted what he did because he'd be the one who'd eavesdrop. She really wouldn't have put it passed him to do something like that. She then listened what Elliott and nodded, it surprisingly didn't surprise her that Cal would have had burner phones smuggled in and/or made up. She too thought it was smart of them to thought up such a plan and idea. She noticed Cal re-emerge to get Elliott and like John, she had full faith in Elliott being fine. "He's right.. you got this" she added to the reassurance towards Elliott.

When they went, so Elliott could finally meet his daughter, she turned to John. "So...that thing I need to tell you..." She began. "I may have not have said everything when I was outside on my own for a bit. I didn't just check on Rinaa. I was just having a moment to compute the whole I have a being growing inside me and doing the crazy talk to the fetus crap, when I think somehow she may have given me her name...because it just came to me... It's Fia." She explained, wondering what he would think of the name. As she was in her own mind on the roof, the significance of the name came to her. It was like her mother's.

With that the two left the building. The coordinates had been pre-programmed into Rinaa's device, and specific instructions had been given to ensure he didn't time travel by accident. With Elliott teleported away and Cal climbing back to the roof, John turned to Kay. He really had no idea what she could be about to say, and his instinct was to think instantly that it was something bad, so he was surprised when it turned out to be the opposite. He did smirk at the whole 'talking to the fetus crap' thing. It was to safe to say John would never do such a thing.

John hadn't given any thought to names whatsoever. There were no really exciting names or traditional names passed along in his family, but he suspected the opposite was true for Kay. Hells they probably had some naming tradition he was oblivious to. He did pick up on two things about the name the first being that it sounded a lot like Kay's mother's. The second was based of Rinaa's nickname- the Celtic deer. "I hadn't given any thought to a name, which isn't really surprising considering its me, and I let Elliott name himself." That was one part of Elliott's story he hadn't gotten around to telling Kay, why precisely Elliott was called Elliott and not his birth name. "But I do like it, and it explains one mystery- the seemingly random nickname. Fia means deer in both modern Irish and the older versions of Gaelic. And the word fianna has two meanings, with a small first letter it means deers plural, and with a capital it is the name of one of the most famous groups of Celtic mythological warriors." John knew a significant amount about Celtic mythology, he had a genuine interest in it and the stories were far more interesting and (and in his opinion) more gruesome than the British mythology.

Kay noted his smirk about that particular comment, and she had a feeling she'd be the only one gaining that habit. John never striked her as the type to do it but hey, when the kid starts growing, whose go say surprises were round the corner. He had always been the one night stand type bloke before she came along, and he began caring about her. The moment he said about not giving names a thought, it didn't shock her. If it wasn't for the name even coming to her weirdly, she wouldn't have thought about it.

She barely remembered reading in the book that most phoenix kind were named to relating to fire in some way, especially if it was a female phoenix, which 99% of time, it was. Male phoenix were in the minority. The moment he said about the nickname it suddenly made sense and she found it incredibly interesting. She always loved knowing what new meant, she recalled when she was 7 she insisted on asking her mother what her name meant to no avail, so she researched it herself. In the end she found many different meanings depending on the part of the world, but one came back Flame. Others were 'rejoice' 'keeper of the keys' and such. Now she thought about it, the whole key meaning was quite appropriate for her current life as well.

"It all makes sense now. In Latin it means little firey one. Which totally feels like a case of foreshadowing to her personality'" she replied, thinking if she lives up to the name, then they're gonna have their hands full with her. Little did she know in the future, their daughters was exactly as her name states.

"Well if she turns out anything like either of the two of us, we're going to have a lot on our hands" John agreed, he already knew the Latin meaning of the name, he spoke the dead language after all. Along with many other unusual languages, he'd always found languages far more interesting in school. But that wasn't saying much, he didn't really find school interesting and spent most of his time pissing around. John had learned many languages when he went deeper into magic, he even had some basic Enochian- the language of the angels.

The rest of the roof gang made their way down and into the forge, Cal was actually supposed to be working. She picked up that half finished sword in one hand, and started rechecking the fires and bellows with practiced care. "Feel free to stay and watch, but I do have to get work done here." She told them. To which Jay added "And I'm going back to the ship, so if anyone has anything they want to get, now's the chance." "I'll come with, I left a couple of things there."

Kay nodded smiling. She had a feeling he'd know the meaning and didn't really know why she even mentioned it. "Oh for sure, got a hunch she'll have one of us wrapped round her little finger" she replied, as most young girls always do that when they're little. For her, it was her mother to no surprise.

Kay then turned to the door she. Cal and company came back in and Cal said about how she should be doing work. She didn't want to get in the way of Cal's job and thought it best to leave. Then Kay mentioned about heading back to the ship and Chas mentioning about going back with her to get remaining things. Which made her wonder if her and John should head back with them, or of they should just stay in the general area or not. "Head back to the ship or stay?" she threw the options out for John. She was perfectly happy to do whatever, knowing she'd either chill somewhere if she stayed behind unless there were better options or just grab the few spare clothes she left in her bag on the ship.

There was nothing on the ship that John needed, he'd taken very little from Earth in the first place, and he'd taken it all from the ship. Not to mention he was curious to see the forging process, considering Cal was a pyrokinetic, he had a feeling that she would be a little more unconventional in her methods. Plus the presence of fire in general appealed to him. "I'll stay, if its not weird." "It's really not, people hang around inside here all the time, and it's not my sparkling personality and good looks that attracts them...... unless it's Cliff."

"Guilty as charged" Cliff shrugged from her position on an chair in the corner, she had her feet flat against the wall, and had produced a book from somewhere or another, she spent a lot of time there. She tossed the spare apartment key to Jay "You'll need this to get back in" she added. To which the blue haired woman nodded and left with Chas.

Kay stuck with John only because she felt safer. She also felt like if anything was to happen to her (not that it would, she's not far along after all) she's with him and won't panic as much..or so she thought. Watching Chas and Jay leave, she made sure to stay out the way of Cal working but did watch. Like John, she was drawn to fire. Which was no surprise really all things considered.

She watched as the fire danced and sparked, embers flying into the air. Her eyes alone showed how it captivated her, from the way it reflected in her eyes it almost like how her eyes do when they change colour. There was almost an ethereal look to her eyes, something that only my really comes across when she fully is transformed. It's like she got lost in the flame. More so than when she first entered the forge. If she was someone else looking on at her reaction, one might have said it was her old soul from being the descendant of the original phoenix showing itself. There was just something about her whole persona.

Cliff took out her hearing aids as soon as Cal began, tucking them neatly away in her pocket. She knew what the forge sounded like, and to be quite honest, she was more interested in watching Cal's every move than anything else. (She felt justified in her staring as Cal was her future wife after all). Cliff had spent a lot of her teenage years leaning over the forge door, just watching Cal as she worked. Contrary to popular belief she didn't spent her whole time pelting Cal with ice.

It was evident from Cal's motions that the forge was where she felt at home. The concentration and focus was visible in her eyes and the set of her body. Her form while working was hard and rigid. Yet her movements had a fluidity and grace to them that was both beautiful and terrifying. Wielding the tools wasn't as easy as it looked. They were heavy, and with each motion the muscles in Cal's arms and shoulders tensed and released. She was far stronger than she looked. For the main heating she let the fires do the job, but for spot heating and repairs, she did it herself, lighting one hand alight with flame.

To say it wasnt impressive how Cal could wield the tools would be a lie, yet to Kay it wasn't her wielding and working that had attracted her, it was purely the fire. She also didn't want to stare at Cal too much, with Cliff in the room. She had principles after all, not that many people would believe that about her. Watching the fire once again did bring many thoughts in her head. Some related, some not related, they were anything from 'Why are these embers making me crave spices and cinnamon?' to 'if only I had parchment and pencils' to 'would Fia's birth be in flames or a normal human birth?'

With one of those thoughts, she wanted to now go through with one of them. "There any paper and pencils around?" She asked. She felt like she wanted to sketch some of the things she witnessed here on Attil so she could show Fia in the future. A bit like a diary but in sketches.

John was more interested in the whole process, the way the lump of metal was elongated, curved, shaped, stretched and distorted. The metal was utterly pliable to Cal's hammer blows. He found himself fixated on the blade itself. John wasn't a bladed weapon sperson by nature (knives didn't count in his mind), swords were more of Elliott's thing. But he knew how to use one with decent accuracy. So he could appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the blade. And he could see that Kay too was enthralled, but for different reasons.

Cliff of course didn't hear a word said, but Cal did, the request coinciding with the time she put down the blade to quench. "Yeah, we got some, hang on a mo' " she wandered into a side room, and emerged a few minutes later with said paper and pencils, which she handed to Kay, before turning back to the anvil, and taking out new blade blanks.

Kay could see how John was fixated on the whole process on how a blade was forged and made. She found it interesting how they both were competely obsorbed for two very different reasons. When Cal managed to hear her question, she was happy to hear the answer was indeed a yes , they had. She waited for Cal to come back and with the supplies, and when she had, Kay took the items from her. "Thanks" she said, looking around and finding a chair and desk that was positioned in the exact perfect spot she needed.

She hoped Cal wouldn't find it weird that she wanted to sketch her at work, but sketching people who weren't posing was her favourite muse. She never sketched a posed scene, she preferred the candid shot to draw as it showed people in a much more natural and true depiction of who they truly were. She began sketching roughly at first, lines very rough, but they soon blended together to create a perfect copy of what Cal looked like. She used the other pencils to show light and shadows, despite her style being rough and sketchy.

(Just to give an idea of pose and art style of Kay's)

Cal went back to work, only this time instead of shaping a sword, she was making a ceremonial dagger. It was evident from the shape and length that this was more for show than anything else. She was aware she was being sketched, this wasn't the first time it had happened. At first she'd been awkward when the occasional art student would arrive, but she'd gotten used to blocking people out yet making sure they wouldn't accidentally blow up the forge by accident. The shaping process was faster for the smaller blade, but still worked with meticulous care.

When Kay had started drawing, John had left her alone, not sure how she felt about people watching, and taken the opportunity to have a smoke in the opposite corner. He knew it was a dreadful idea to smoke near pregnant people or young kids, so he intended to make the most of it while he could. Cliff's curiosity got the better of her, and she moved herself over to take a look.

Kay always got lost in her sketching. Being watched never bothered her as she used to being watched when she was at university by her lecturer. So of John did watch, she wouldn't have minded. She also didn't mind the fact he went to the opposite corner to smoke, she actually appreciated it, knowing why he done it.

When Cliff walked over, she barely noticed her presence, but was aware of it nonetheless. Kay let Cliff watch, as she switched pencils to get more detail in where it needed and so forth. She hadn't actually sketched since that time with Elliott in AJ's place and it honestly felt good to have a pencil in her hand once more. She soon came to an end and sat back, taking the piece and handing it to Cliff. "I was gonna keep it but figured you'd want it instead" she told her hoping it was good enough in Cliff's eyes. She had faith in her drawing skills but when it came to the subject's other half watching and seeing the piece, she was always slightly nervous. It was the perfect image of Cal, so she knew deep down she shouldn't be nervous.

Cliff was impressed with Kay's skill. Neither she nor Cal possessed any artistic gifts in terms of drawing, Cal's craft gifts lay in metal working and some music, where as Cliff was the analytical type and didn't have any real artistic gifts, her strengths lay elsewhere. She carefully took the drawing and examined it in closer detail. She was touched that Kay thought she should have the drawing. It really was an excellent piece, capturing so many of things she herself saw when watching Cal work. "Thank you.....this is really, really good. You've got a talent."

Cal wandered over to take a look, leaning over Cliff's shoulder, and John then joined them, after extinguishing the cigareet against the wall. That was one excellent thing about the forge, nobody at all would notice the extra smoke or mess caused by him smoking. "Is that really what I look like when working or have you drawn me better than I actually am?"

Kay smiled as she watched Cliff's reaction to the drawing. It was a massive relief to her that she liked it and appreciated the offer of giving it to her. Now that she had drawn Cal once, if she truly wanted to, she could always replicate it for Fia if it came to it. She just found it more important that Cliff had it than herself. She noted how Cliff really examined the drawing, which for her, was always a good sign, especially as she prided herself in detailing and light and shadow.

"Thanks...the upside of spending a few years at art university. Which makes me sound utterly pretentious even though it's not what people think" she chuckled slightly. There was a tone to her voice that showed she was aware of how a lot of people perceived art students, and how she herself found it amusing. She looked up when Cal and John both walked over to look at it. She couldn't resist the smirk that came across her lips when Cal gave her opinion, "I draw what I see...nothing more nothing less. I just pride myself in detailing that lights and shadows create. This is why I never draw someone if they're a posing model. You don't get the true depiction of that person that way. This way, you do." She explained. She knew now she had drawn one person, if she had her sketchpad with her, she would definitely be drawing everyone. Something told her that this would become a thing to get her through surviving the dangers of being pregnant.

"So in other words I'm damn good looking when working" Cal smirked, resulting in a dig in the ribs and a dramatic eye roll from Cliff. "But on a more serious note, it's really accurate of the forge lighting." Cliff understood exactly what Kay meant about drawing people when they were natural or unaware. It was the same principle as to how she watched people. They acted very differently when they know their being observed. "So it's the same idea as when I'm observing people. They always behave differently and show more of their true thoughts when they don't know they are being observed? And the same applies for being in a group versus being alone too"

John hadn't seen Kay's work before, so the only art he really knew well was Elliott's. His initial reaction was to look for the differences in the style, not the fault or the flaws, but the differences. He, like the others was impressed, and it showed. He'd known Kay could draw, he just hadn't known how well.

When Cal replied with her own summary of Kay's words, she couldn't help but laugh. She also found it highly amusing that Cliff jabbed Cal in the ribs and made an eye roll. If anyone ever doubted they were in an relationship, they certainly wouldn't at that given moment. It honestly reminded her of her and John at times, though the two women were slot more forthcoming and open about it, whereas both John and herself were alot more private.

"Yeah, you got it Cliff" she began replying to Cliff's words, feeling quite happy that she understood where Kay was coming. "It's exactly that. People out on a show when they know they're being watched..like, a fake persona that they think people will want them to be like. When they think no one is watching or observing, they act how they want to and it's much more fascinating. Which in my case makes for a much better piece of art. Tells a story better" she replied.

Kay also noted how John was studying the piece and seeing him impressed by something she had done meant a massive deal to her. She didn't know when she had started to give a shit about what John thought of her hobbies or skills, but at some point since being with him and knowing him, it had become a big deal for her. It also then in that instance dawned on her that this was the first time John had seen her work. "I always forget you haven't seen my work" she aimed the comment at John. She now wished she still had her sketchbooks. She made a mental note that one day she would sneakily sketch John.
