John didn't stop pacing as he listened, he was relieved to know that somebody knew something, and that he wasn't ovetthunking by asking so many questions. The answers made sense but he knew the coffee part wouldn't make Kay happy at all. The faster time period was both good and bad. Bad as in they had less time to sort their shit out, and good, as Kay would be vulnerable for less time than a normal human, and judging by the way things were going, they would be stuck on Attil for a while.

"I don't suppose there is some convenient way to prevent the downworld from finding out?" He already knew that answer, but if there was a way, he would do his damn best to take it. He also made a mrntal note to reward the apartment, and seriously bulk up any other places they frequently went, like Chas's house, and A.J's, keeping in mind Scott's condition. "and it goes without saying that nothing they would do to her would be any good." He thought for a minute before adding "Medication, supplements, diet, anything that needs to change there, besides the coffee and alcohol stuff. And exposure to magic, do any particular kinds have negative effects?"

Fee kept watching him as he paced. She didn't mind him pacing at all, as she figured it was his way of computing everything and it was a human thing to do. She had witnessed Kay donut many times when she went into panic mode before, so it wasn't particularly a new thing for her. As he asked the question she was almost expecting she shook her head and began to reply to the new list of questions. "No, there isn't a way for them to stop them finding out. News of a endangered near to extinct species having a child will become big news. She will only need to leave your apartment and the downworld will catch the smell of a new phoenix. Literally." Fee began to explain before she continued.

"That's not to say that extra protection isn't on the cards. I have heard of protection spells that can be used but I fear they've since been lost through the years. It would take a lot of sourcing to find them. Yes, you're correct that if they find her it won't be good. They will force her into a premature labor the moment they can and they will kill your child for its soul. The essence that a soul of a baby phoenix is more potent and powerful than anything else. They won't find use for Kay if they get your child. They will kill Kay." Fee then took a breath before going into more detail. "Kay will only need extra medications and supplements if the child's growth takes it toll on her. If Kay starts to become too sick, she will need them. Most human supplements should be sufficient, if not there are old phoenix recipes that will help. Most consist of various spices. As for magic, she should be safe from most magics. However I cannot say for sure. That will require research." Fee concluded.

At least one of them was able to keep a clear head about this. Defenestrating himself was sounding like a better and better way for John to deal with his problems. But that would only make things worse, he'd be in hell, and Kay would be left on her own with all this stuff going on. Things were steadily getting worse and worse sounding. Killing a child for its soul? That was just beyond nasty. John had a thing when it came to killing kids or kids dying, and for a brief moment the scenes of Newcastle passed through his head. The ruined basement room. The bloody knife, the robed men, first laughing, then screaming and running for their lives. The larger demon Lord obliterating the lesser. And of course his attempts to break out of the bonds, and the screaming of a terrified child "JOHN!!!!"

He forced the jumble of images away, praying the bond hadn't somehow transmitted them over to her. He was still unsure how much of what went on his head was fed to Kay. "So I take it the demons can't detect us in the depths of whatever quadrant of space we are in? Or does it work differently with them." If the 'signal' had been already sent, he wanted to know if they were in danger when they got back to Earth, or would be safest to hide out on some far away planet. Which led to his other thought. "What about The House? Out of the possession of a Downworlders, it is completly invisible to them both physically and magically."

The moment Kay heard Fee say they would kill her unborn child the moment it was born for it's soul, she felt sick and unbelievably angry for the first time since hearing she was even pregnant. That wave of anger was driven by maternal protectiveness. She didn't get any of the scenes that John was remembering, but she did feel his anguish, though she wasn't fully sure if it was because of the bond or she was feeling it too in her own reaction. She instance felt like if it had to be her or their daughter, she'd rather it be her but she didn't want to die either, and she certainly didn't want to be left alone to deal with this. He promised her he'd never leave her and would come back to her if anything happened, now was a time she hoped he meant every word.

"You're all safe for now whilst here yes. Though a phoenix has never once travelled through space before so this is new to me also. As for The House? Yes she would be safe in there...they both would be. I can't tell you when they'd find out exactly or if they already know back on earth, though I do doubt they'd know already. Is there anything else I can try and help with? I can feel Kay's fear of losing her family" Fee explained, having a feeling John was debating on keeping her there, though Fee knew Kay wouldn't particularly like it. Kay proved Fee right, she didn't like the idea of being cooped up anywhere and not let out, but she also didn't anyone of her family to die.

(A heads up- from 1pm roughly Im gonna be slow replying for a little while as I'm being forced to see my disliked brother for lunch after him not caring for a decade.)

If worst came to worst he could shut himself up in The House with Kay for the next six months, it wasn't ideal, and no doubt they'd both go completly stir crazy with cabin fever, but as a last resort option it wasn't the worst. He'd stayed in there for longer than six months on occasion, and there was a lot to read, and with the changing layout it kept life somewhat interesting. Also he could summon Elliott and Chas when needed without leaving the House. He knew Kay wouldn't be happy with the idea, and neither was he. But if it meant keeping the two/three of them safe, then so be it.

"I would ask somebody in hell, but my presence or mention would just draw attention. Though Elliott has a network of dodgy low-worlders that could be of use." He mused, still not stopping his pacing, it really was helping him think. All his questions so far had been answered, but there were bound to be more. "Nothing at the moment, but if I think of anything else then I'll let you know. And I suppose if you think of anything else that prevents this from turning into Newcastle then I'm all ears." This he was pretty sure was the first time he'd ever mentioned Newcastle by name around Kay,al the other times only being indirect hints.

(thanks for the heads up, that sound like it sucks, big time)

Fee (and in turn Kay) watched John pace, and neither stopped him. They were both understanding it was helping him think. Fee listened to his musings and simply nodded. "I will come forward if you need me. Just ask for me John, no need to hesitate. I will let you know if I think of anything, you have my word. I've protected Kay all this time, I won't let anything happen to her, the child or you." Fee told him. She did truly like John, compared to when he first came into Kay's life. Truth be told, Fee wanted her to run far away from him, and didn't trust him whatsoever but he had proved himself with Kay and now Fee liked him. She also found him interesting to talk to.

Fee then subtly went back into the background of Kay and her eyes became their usual grey blue hue that showed Kay was back in control. She had heard him say Newcastle in name for the first time and she knew instantly by that, that he was scared this would become another case like that. But she was determined to not have that happen. She didn't even say anything, just walked up to him to stop him pacing and hugged him once more, tighter this time. "This won't be another Newcastle...I trust Fee when she says she'll help in protecting all three of us" she told him.

(Yeah it does. A lot. And his wife is worse)

To have somebody with all this knowledge on his side meant more to John than he could ever care to admit. "Thank you" was all John said in response to Fee's words. But he rarely, if ever uttered those words and when he did, he really and truly meant them. Internally he added "I'll try not to fuck this up more than I already have, you have my word on that, whatever my word is worth these days." a promise to himself to do better. Not necessarily to be better, but to do better. Thw while downworld and magical community knew parts if the story of Newcastle, and that it was John Constantine's greatest failure

The hug did stop his pacing. Had nobody interrupted him, he would have continued for as long as necessary, wearing a trench into the floor in the process. "I trust her too on that." And he really did. Fee was the most level headed of them all, and had been helpful to them both, even when John was still the arsehole who blew up cabs with antimatter. He didn't add any details about Newcastle or explain the effect it had and still held over him. It wouldn't help their current situation to dwell on such events.

Both Kay and Fee knew how major it was when John thanked someone. So it held a great weight to Fee, even after she left to let Kay have control again. Kay was glad that her hug stopped John from pacing, and when he said he also trusted Fee on the whole keeping them all safe, it meant a great deal. Fee was part of her after all, so sin a round about way it meant he trusted her also. She knew how hard it was for John to trust anyone, so to hear him say he trusted Fee was a massive deal in Kay's mind.

Kay didn't need him to add details bout Newcastle, she knew how much it was a sore subject for him and she would never pry him on it. There were some subjects you just don't go to if the person doesn't want to open the door to, and she had too much respect for John to break down that door in his memory for it. "We'll get through this John. We have a great support network with Chas and co, we can do this. I love you" she finally said it. She said those damn three words that she refused to say but something in her heart told her it was now or never to say them. "And as scared as I am, I won't let anyone hurt our daughter" she told him, knowing he'd be the same on the kid front, even if she didn't know how he truly felt about her.

"Yeah, I know we will." for once he was being hesitantly optimistic about something. Though he still knew it wasn't beyond the realm of possibility that he would wake up in the middle of the night questioning just what the fuck he'd got himself into. But for now he was dealing with everything far better than anybody would have expected from him. "Once Chas is finished giving me a bollocking, he and the others will better able to process this than we can. And I suppose I should tell my sister when we get back, so she can give me a bollocking then try to micromanage my life for a while."

There was nothing he could say to Kay's admission, but he accepted it, as alien as it seemed to him. That somebody could actually love him and not as family or as a mate, but for the flawed screw up he was. "O, if they try and do anything to this kid, I will fucking bring everything I've got down on them, including all the League. They most definitly owe me after that stunt they pulled."

Kay smiled slightly at his agreement of getting through this. She took the optimism from him, even if it was hesitant. She also found it slightly amusing that even he thought about Chas giving him a bollocking, something she thought about earlier. "Oh they would no doubt give you a bollocking, I thought that earlier" she replied to him. She didn't need him to say it back, surprising to herself that she didn't need it. She knew he cared about her and she also knew he may never say those three words, but that was his thing and like with everything else, she accepted it. She was pretty sure he showed how he felt about her in other ways anyway.

She listened to him say determinedly that he won't let anything happen to their daughter and it just boosted her own determination. "Agreed, they definitely owe you big time" she said, lifting her head from his shoulder, due to the hug and kissed his cheek. "Should we go find Cal now? Or do you need some more time? I'm fine either way, no matter what we do I'll still be wracking my head around everything" she told him truthfully.

"It's his unofficial job, he's been doing it since we were kids, and he's damn good at it too. Like almost everything he else he does." John appreciated Chas more than he said, and he could always rely on the cabbie to talk straight and tell him when to pull his head out of his arse when necessary. "the two of them would occasionally gang up on me over something or another." He half smirked, half smiled at the memory.

"Oh they do. Not only am I going to abuse that power, I am going to dangle it over their heads about that time that I had more more integrity than them. Except Batsy, I'll leave him out of it as he was the only one with balls enough to challenge them, even if he really really annoys me." John knew the answer to that question. " Just one more thing to sort out, what do we tell Elliott, and do you want to tell him with me or should I do it alone?"

Kay smiled when he told the memory of Chas and his sister ganging up on him. It honestly didn't surprise her and she could easily see it in her mind. She knew Chas thought a lot of John and always stood by his side, but she had also seen him give him the word talk when needed. So this time would be no different. When he said about dangling the favour right over their heads, she actually felt proud of him for being like that. She hadn't formally met the League but after what they did to Elliott, she didn't have much time for them at all. She also didn't care for how much Bruce spoke to him at the doorway, even if he didn't see her eavesdropping.

Then came his next question, telling Elliott. She sighed as she went into thought. It was a bloody good question as she didn't fully know either. "I'm not fully sure but we'll tell him together. I feel it'll be easier to break the news of we're together when we tell him. It might lessen the blow on any of us" she said, meaning Elliott as well when she said the last part. "I guess... There is no soft way of telling him, so we'll have to just tell him straight.. maybe start with the telepathic messages from her first?" She suggested.

"That's what I was thinking. Start with the telepathic messages, he might be able to sense that somebody else was in my head anyway. Then from there he'll keep questioning until he gets the whole story out." He figured a soft(ish) opening to the shit load of information would be a good idea. And considering he'd coped pretty well with what Jay had told him, this would go down easier. "And I'm pretty sure he already knows we're together in some form." He continued, thinking back to the last night Elliott had been with him, at home.

Things had changed a lot in that short space of time. New people, new challenges, new places. And it was nowhere near over yet. But he might as well enjoy himself, considering he was on an alien planet with some crazy scenery and who knew what else. He took the hearing aids up off the table and roledde them around in his palm. Cliff had taken her laptop with her when she left. "If there isn't anything else, then let's go find Cliff."

Kay nodded, it felt like the right way to go about things by far. That way, Elliott could make the information be revealed on his terms and it won't be as hard a blow for them to hear. She couldn't stop the smile from appearing when he said about Elliott pretty much knows about them being together. It just felt nice for her to hear him say and acknowledge they were an item. "Mmhmm I'm pretty sure he knows too" she agreed.

Things had changed for them and dramatically so. She never would have imagined in a million years that running away from demons into an alleyway in the pissing rain, would have brought John into her life which would have sparked off meeting Chas and Elliott and AJ's gang and so forth. She never would have imagined that John would be her soul mate and they'd go flying across space to get Elliott home whom she'd come to think of as her adoptive son as well and friend, and now being pregnant with her and John's kid. If she truly ever took a moment to think it all through, she'd no doubt need a sit down and if it was possible a very stiff drink. She watched as he took hold of Cliff's hearing aids and then nodded, "let's go find her" she replied, agreeing.

She took his other hand and linked fingers with him. She still needed that reassurance from him that yes, they were stepping into a whole new part of their lives together and they could handle it.

(Fuck me I'm glad to be home lol!)

John squeezed Kay's hand, as if to assure her that yes, I'm still here and yes, this all really is happening. He left the machine room and emerged back into the main area, looking for the familiar purple bob cut. Thankfully Cliff had such distinctive hair that she was easy to pick out. She was back by the window, sitting in the office chair, feet propped up on the windowsill and laptop across her knees. A stack of files was located beside her, she'd known John and Kay's talk would take a while, so she'd decided to make use of the time and do some work.

As one hand typed, the other idly manipulated the tennis ball sized blob of ice floating by her head. The ball was bobbing and weaving its way around, paradoxically not acting as a distraction as she worked. She didn't turn at the sound of John and Kay's footsteps, but when their reflections became visible in the laptop screen. John held out the hearing aids, which she took and put on. "I would ask if you've come to grips with everything, but that's gonna take a couple of days"

Kay really appreciated the squeeze of her hand. She walked with him out the machine room to find Cliff, also using her hair as a way to find her. She had never been so thankful for John's presence and she did actually forget for a while that he still had her jacket as she gave it to him when she went into the scanner. Though it was the least of her worries right now. She actually didn't mind she didn't have it, when they found Cliff back at her area by the window.

Seeing she had work going on, she didn't blame her for getting whatever she had to done whilst they were working through the news. Like Cliff though, they did take a while to discuss it all and process it. She also found it fascinating that she could manipulate ice the way she was. She could easily have made a Elsa joke, but she wasn't even sure if they'd even know about Elsa on Attil. If they did, she no doubt wouldn't have been the first to make such a joke. She let John give Cliff back her aids, and nodded when Cliff spoke to them. "yeah..understatement of the century, but we're working through the news...and know we'll figure it out" she told her. "It's pretty much telling Elliott and Chas that's freaking us out now" she half smiled.

Cliff nodded, she understood where they were coming from. Training wise, she didn't deal with the midwife side of things, but hospital protocol stated that all doctors should be grounded in the basics of as many areas as possible. Cliff's speciality area was (unsurprisingly) hearing trauma, but generally she dealt with pilot injuries. Most pilots knew her, and trusted her judgement. Closing and saving the medical files, she brought up the to-do list page, typing in her native language do refresher midwifery course + read up on anything useful in this area. "If you weren't shook like that, then I'd be worried."

The ball of ice de-materialised as she spoke. "regardless of his initial reaction, Chas'll get over it. He's that kind of solid person" "And Elliott?" John strangely found himself trusting Cliff's reading of people, even though he barely knew her. They'd all been spot on so far after all. "I haven't actually met my future brother-in-law yet, so I can only judge based on what others have said. But I think he'll take it well, considering how he dealt with yesterday's crap, which was for him, no offence, worse than this situation"

Hearing Cliff say what she did, she couldn't contradict her. She herself would have concerned if neither of them were completely shaken up by the news. Especially John. She then listened to what she thought about how Chas would take the news, she definitely noticed how spot on Cliff was about Chas. He was a solid bloke and Kay had a feeling John wouldn't object to the idea of Chas being their kid's uncle. Kay knew it couldn't be anyone else and she'd feel much happier when the time came to have Chas looking out for their girl if they couldn't.

It was only when John asked how Cliff thought Elliott would be with the news that she snapped out her brief thoughts. She then heard Cliff out. She was actually surprised she hadn't met him yet, yet Cliff seemed like such a hard worker to Kay, that she felt she shouldn't be surprised. "No offence taken, even we know last night's revolution to him was and still is worse than this. It's something we remarked on on our private chat." She replied to Cliff. It wasn't a lie either, they did briefly touch upon it saying if he could handle the news of Rinaa, then finding out he was going to be a big brother would be a piece of cake for him.

John knew that Chas would have no major problems dealing with all this, but it was nice to hear it from somebody else. Even if somebody else was a deaf purple-haired, green-eyed alien doctor. (Which really sounded like a description from a sci-fi novel). Cliff was an interesting person in his mind, and there was no doubt more to her that they had not seen yet. He raised an eyebrow at her answer "The whole time travelling dying daughter thing makes this pale in comparison, so none taken... So why haven't you met him yet, considering Cal is in charge of busting him out?"

"Well first of all, he only got here two and a half days ago (ish) and for that first day or so I was off world, there'd been a bad incident at a prison, so extra doctors were drafted in. I didn't get the frantic voicemail til the shift finished. So I got myself back here as soon as possible, only for my boss to dump long hospital shifts on me at the same times Cal was breaking him out. Then came you guys, so that became my job. Add to that the fact that Cal didn't tell him until yesterday, it just never happened."

Kay knew John wouldn't take offence to her comment either. She also knew he wouldn't let the whole 'I've not met him yet' remark go without being questioned. He'd never stopped drilling for answers before, so he certainly wouldn't stop now, especially as it was about Elliott.

She listened to Cliff's reasons for not meeting him yet and it made perfect sense in her eyes. She did think Elliott had been here a bit longer than that considering how many days it took them to get there, but it also made her happy he wasn't here for longer before they arrived to bust him out. "Makes sense" she replied. "That'd stop anyone from meeting someone quickly" she added. She really didn't envy Cliff for the amount of work she had to do. Kay knew she would go insane of she had to deal with what Cliff did, then again she never really dealt with a job like Cliff has due to the way her life went.

Cliff was beginning to show one characteristic shared by all doctors- the fact that they contsantly worked long and weird hours and frequently complained about it. He had no doubt in his mind that if set off on that topic Cliff would be able to bitch for hours about it, and somehow still enjoy her job afterwards. People were weird, no matter what the planet. "So this all boils down to the fact that at some point you chose to become a doctor?" "Pretty much yeah, its kind of my fault, kind of not. But after doing all this overtime they owe me a couple of weeks of holidays, which I intend to grab with both hands." She shrugged, standing up and grabbing both the laptop and the files. "I guess now is a good time to extract Chas, Jay and Rí from the clutches of our resident crazy scientist."

"Sounds like a plan" Cliff deposited the files on the shelves as she led them out, and slotted the laptop into her bag. Swiping though, she led them back along the corridors, and up to the higher levels. The robotics lab was located in the old spaceship launch hangers. There were many reasons for this Cliff explained- the structure served as both blast protection if things went wrong, the hangers were spacious enough for large projects, and the tonnes of rock acted as noise insulation.

Kay just let them continue talking. She did smirk slightly at Cliff's comment about holiday time and grabbing it the moment she can. She definitely sounded like an overworked doctor with that comment. She then noticed how Cliff just shrugged it off before standing up and remarking how they should get the other three. It was probably selfish, but she did momentarily forget that the other three were even in the building elsewhere. Her mind was everywhere and nowhere all at the same time.

Remaining hand in hand with John, she followed Cliff through the corridors and to the robotics lab. During the walk she took in all her surroundings. It was very impressive to Kay, and she knew she'd have loved drawing everything she saw or the people at work. People in everyday situations was her favourite muse back when she was drawing for grades, and she definitely felt now she was pregnant, she'd have to draw more and play that damn keyboard she'd promised herself to buy when they were home. She'd have to find things to do if she was to be possibly cooped up in The House during her pregnancy and after for a while for her own safety and their daughter's. She may not have been the one talking, but she did hear all the suggestions get out around.

The robotics lab was based in the giant hanger, which had to be at least twenty metres in height. As a whole it didn't look too crazy. Just lots of machines and tools, and half disassembled tech. Compared to the stereotype it was surprisingly orderly. It did however smell strongly of solder, oil and sparks. It was protocol to wear goggles when inside, the polarised lenses protecting from the sparks and the intense glows of various gas torches. Helpfully there was a box out side with pictogram signs stating the necessity for goggles, so any language barrier was not an acceptable excuse. John's pair managed to look suitably ridulous, yet perfect, as if he was meant to be wearing them.

Cliff lead them through the main hanger, into a smaller side space. The workshop inside was far messier, with thing strewn around in what the owner would call 'organised chaos' but anybody else would class as 'a complete and utter tip'. Inside were Chas, Jay and Rinaa, accompanied by a male about Cliff's age with extraordinary greeny-blue skin. His hair was a wild Einstein like mop that stuck out in all directions, and he had gills on his neck and forearms. At the arrival of Cliff he smirked and signed 'I thought you said you were taking the day off to throw yourself at the couch......and Cal" Cliff rolled her eyes "shit happens, and besides, we're not at it like rabbits as soon as we're alone together" she signed back.

Kay kept following and when it came to putting on goggle's, she took a pair was and walked in, glancing up at John she couldn't help but smirk ever so slightly. She was pretty sure she no doubt looked ridiculous but it's not like goggle's were ever made as a fashion accessory in this case. The smell was definitely strong and for Kay, it was like when she smelled the coffee earlier at Cal's apartment. It actually made initially cover her nose for a brief moment before lowering her hand.

When they reached where they clearly needed to go, the state of area made Kay internally grimace. If it was anywhere else she knew she wouldn't help herself and just start cleaning up. She wasn't OCD but mess did bother her sometimes. She saw Chas, Jay and Rinaa there and the scientist whom she could totally understand why he was called the crazy scientist. Once again, seeing sign language happen she watched amazed even if she didn't know what was being said. It took the worry of telling Chas what the results of her sickness from her mind just briefly.

"Sure, sure, sure. I totally believe you" it was obvious from his body language that he had mastered the art of signing sarcastically. Rinaa was suppressing the laughter as the two descended into further bickering, understanding almost everything being signed. "Do I even want to know what's being said?" "Deke's accusing Cal and Cliff of jumping on each other whenever the opportunity arises, and Cliff is complaining that he can't make a set of hearing aids that are waterproof and it's just gone downhill from there" Rinaa explained, as the two signed furiously at each other, both smirking and refusing to take anything seriously.

"I take it that's normal?" John asked, amused at the whole thing, even if he had no clue what exactly was being said. "Oh totally, it's just how they roll" Rinaa explained. Jay and Chas looked up at the arrival of the trio. They were both interested in knowing exactly why Kay had been sick, but neither were willing to ask it straight out. Chas bit the bullet and went for it. "So did Cliff's tests turn up anything?"
