Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay listened to the both of them, particularly Cliff as what she had to say was interesting and it was distracting her from the wait of her own results for a while. When Cliff mentioned about the process killing Rinaa, she wasn't surprised to hear that as they did already know.. which Cliff figured out.

"Yeah...we did. It was spoken about on the ship after Jay stabilized Rinaa and got her sedated. It was err....hectic to say the least" Kay confirmed. She remembered and wished she could forget it. She was pretty sure she'd always have the picture of the med bay doors shaking from Rinaa going feral in her mind.

"She was stabilised with Omega? At least that is what the bloods say." It wasn't a question or a statement, it was kind of a mix of both from Cliff. "That's about the size of it. There was a cannister on board the ship Jay stole. She used it on Rinaa as the kid had developed immunity to the suppressants she was using. When the suppressants wore off, the shift happened, she would have killed us, or at least made a damn good attempt at it."

"Astras wolves as a rule aren't feral, but the transformation state is volatile, and the kids got it worse than any other case with her chimera DNA. And if the shift doesn't kill her, the Omega will." "So she's screwed nó matter what." Cliff nodded. "Unless the shift somehow stabilises her DNA, she'll die either way." As she spoke Kay's results came in, there had been a positive match for something.

Kay let John explain how Rinaa got omega in her system as she wasn't in the mood to explain. Hearing him say how the kid would have killed them or made a good attempt just brought back the little thoughts of how much Rinaa disliked her, and no doubt she'd be first on the firing line so to speak. She was just so fully worry that all kinds of thoughts were running through her mind. She mentally tried to shake the thoughts away.

She listened to what Cliff said in response and she actually felt really bad for Rinaa hearing that she's definitely screwed either way. Kay really hoped she would pull through and Jay wouldn't lose her kid. "Poor kid" she just said. Kay then noticed a tiny notification pop up on Cliff's laptop but couldn't see what it was so didn't say anything, but she did hope it was her results. The wait was now being too much for her. She was certain that if John wasn't there and having some hold on her she would have run off by this point.

"From the little I've seen of her she doesn't want anyone's pity or sympathy. She doesn't want to die either and she doesn't want the fact that she's terminal to be the defining detail about her. Whatever her motives for being here are, they are complex, there isn't a single factor or reason at play here. And if I had to put money on it, I'd say she's terrified, despite the facade." Cliff responded, proving what she'd said earlier about being observant, and what Cal said about people not being able to hide things from Cliff.

John looked at Cliff in surprise at all of this coming from somebody who'd seen the kid for only a few hours. "But that is just speculation." Cliff opened the results attachment, and her eyebrows rose. "Well then..." "What is it?" John clearly knew that this was Kay's results, just from Cliff's reaction.

Kay nodded at reaction to Cliff's opinion on Rinaa. She definitely saw in that moment that Cal wasn't joking about her observation skills. She had come to a more in depth assumption about Rinaa that the rest of them came to. Kay certainly got the not wanting pity vibe off of Rinaa when she tried to talking to her, and she wasn't even doing it out of pity. She just did it because in her eyes life is too short to hold grudges, which when she thought about it, was incredibly ironic coming from her.... An immortal.

She snapped out of her thoughts when Cliff spoke up that made John ask what it was. Clearly this was her results and she now was in that conflicting state of did she really want to know the answer? She knew even if it was an answer she didn't want to hear, she had to hear it. "What's the results?" She echoed John's question.

Cliff was now at a dilemma, usually she wasn't the one giving the results of the tests that she had done. Protocol was that one doctor/scientist gave the tests, while another told the patient the results. It was just less awkward for all parties. Kay had to be told, there were no two ways around it, but Cliff had no idea what her or John's reaction would be. Whether what she was about to tell them would ruin them or not.

"Well, you're not dying of any weird alien disease, or Earth disease, and it isn't anything on Attil or in its environment affecting you." That was a relief to hear, but John could sense the 'but' that was coming. It wasn't time to breathe a sigh of relief just yet. "so what is it?" Cliff decided that the best thing to do was say it straight, no bullshit, no nothing, her usual blunt style. "Kay's pregnant."

Kay could see how conflicted Cliff felt, wondering if she should tell them or not. She got the feeling she didn't always do it, but Kay just wanted the answer for her sickness, despite moments ago wondering if she did want to hear it, she now wanted nothing more than to just be told. Hearing it was nothing to do with Attil was definitely a relief to hear but like John, she got a feeling that's any the only news she was about to hear. There was something else that Cliff was hesitating to tell them.

John managed to verbally say what was she was thinking. If it wasn't anything on Attil making her ill, then what it could be? The answer that came from Cliff made her grip John's hand a bit tighter. Pregnant?! She didn't think it would happen so soon. She thought they had many months before it would become to a reality. Not only days after hearing their future daughter in their heads. "P..pregnant?" She stammered.

There were few moments where Cliff regretted her career choice. She'd become a doctor mainly because of her own deafness. It had been a med student that had helped her through getting to grips with being deaf, and the people she lost in the explosion that took her hearing. The student had no obligation to take Cliff's case, but they did anyway. The kindness of this (at the time) unknown person was what inspired Cliff to become a doctor. But at this moment in time, she was really wishing she didn't have to have this conversation. But she sucked it up and continued.

John didn't say anything, but his eyebrows rose an inhuman amount at Cliff's response. Like Kay this was too soon for him. "Yes, that's what the bloods say. I could do further scans to make sure, it could be a false positive due to your blood being unknown to the system." Cliff didn't think it was a false positive though.

Kay was desperately trying to wrap her head around it. She knew it'd be too soon for the both of them but she also knew she couldn't dream of the possibilities of abortion and the like. Their telepathic daughter being in existence proved that. She knew both her and John weren't exactly safe when it came to their time alone, but she couldn't believe that it'd come up as pregnant so soon after.

Yet she wasn't exactly a normal human either, so for all she knew things worked differently for her, and in this exact moment she wished she had her birth mother here to help her explain things. Hell, even her adoptive mother would be a help right now but neither were in her life for one reason or another. She found herself slowly looking up at John and saw the shock on his face. It mirrored her thoughts perfectly. Listening to Cliff say she could do extra scans to make sure and she wondered if she should. The offer made her look up at John. This was something she didn't want to decide alone. "What do you think? Should we do a scan to make sure?" She asked him.

John was just as confused and shocked, if not more so than Kay. He was almost certain that he had had enough logical thought function left to use some form of protection when with Kay. But now he was beginning to doubt himself. It had really been quite chaotic between the two of them. And who even knew how pheonix pregnancies worked? For all he knew it could have been caused by them breathing in each others direction. He made a mental note, regardless of what happened next to see if Kay's other half would be of some use, or at least know some form of actual information about pregnancy.

He was so relieved that Cliff said she could do more tests to make sure. "Yes I think we should" It would eat away at him if he didn't. If this was indeed the beginning of their daughter, then it could explain the telepathy. Technically she was there with them, so maybe somehow she could transmit through her own foetus. John's head was already hurting at the thought, and he was once again incredibly relieved Cliff had seperated the group.

Kay hadn't even thought about Fee when it came to getting answers about this, but given time to let this sink in, she no doubt would. Normally Fee would be screaming at her all the time, but she had been so quiet for a while, it's that reason she didn't give her a thought. If she had given Fee a thought so no doubt would know Fee would be able to give them answers. Stupidly enough, it was all thoughts of "oh how Chas is gonna flip his shit when he finds out and no doubt give us both a bollocking" and the like.

Kay then looked at Cliff and nodded, she'd do anything to get more results to make sure if it would help John. This wasn't just her situation anymore.. it was equally his. "I agree..extra confirmation won't do any harm... So yeah, let's do a scan or whatever you can to make sure" she said to them both. She trusted Cliff and her technology but like John, it would eat her up if she didn't.

There really was no option when it came to doing extra tests. It would eat all of them up if they didn't do it. Cliff would have insisted if they had refused saying that even if they were happy with the results, she wasn't and wanted as close to 100% confirmation as was technologically possible. "A scan is the best method I'd say." Cliff stood up, disconnecting her laptop and gestured for them to follow her to a different section of the lab.

The particular machine they'd stopped at had been designed for scanning those pregnant or suspected of being pregnant. Cliff took out her hearing aids as a precaution. "The machine signals mess with the hearing aids sometimes, and I'd rather not risk short circuiting them. So I'm gonna be doing this deaf" The machine was similar is style to an MRI scanner, but considerably less bulky. Cliff gestured for Kay to sit in.

The fact that even Cliff thought it was the best thing to do, proved to her they chose right to get another test done. She assumed earth hospitals or GP's would only insist on the same thing anyway. Nodding, she stood up from the chair, grabbing her jacket but giving it to John to hold. She wouldn't want it on for the scan but she was one of those people who didn't like just leaving it unattended. She followed Cliff to the other section and saw the machine she was wanting Kay to go into.

Seeing her take out her hearing aids and explaining why made sense to her. It was the same deal at home as well. So it wasn't anything surprising to her. To Kay, it was no different than hospitals telling people to keep all phones turned off around machines. Taking a deep breath, she got into the machine and laid down. She was thankful it was less bulky because if it was anything like home, she'd no doubt freak out. She took a glance at John, the worry and shock still on her face.

Without the hearing aids in, Cliff's voice sounded slightly different, for the simple reason that she couldn't hear herself speak. Even in his state of confusion and worry, it was obvious to John why. He looked back at Kay, hoping to convey that she'd be okay, no matter what happened, he was still there, and still with her. Cliff booted up, her background an informal photo of the pilot squad. They were all striking different pises and pulling stupid faces, looking like they were having the time of their lives.

The tech was far different to that of Earth, but worked on the same principle- using waves to create an image. Once connected and the systems check came back as all clear, Cliff ran the programme. Taking the scan only took a few minutes, and assembling the data took another five or so. When then scan itself was over, Cliff gestured for Kay to come over to view the results when they came through. "Well here they are. It's certain now. You are indeed pregnant."

John wasn't the only one who knew why Cliff sounded slightly different without her aids on. She was also used to hearing her like so, from when she spoke to her in the bathroom privately and she didn't have her aids in then. Seeing John look back at her, she gave him a simple single nod to let him know she got what he was trying to tell her with his look. She really did wonder if he knew just how much he helped her gain the strength to do anything.

Turning her head back she stared up at the ceiling whilst the scans happened. It honestly felt like forever to her, despite only being a few minutes in total. Her head feeling like it was spinning from many thoughts running through her mind. From the thoughts of how the others were gonna react, to how herself and John were gonna handle this new turn of events, to how does a pregnancy even work with a pheonix, to would they even meet their daughter before she gave birth or not? She was so glad when Cliff gave her the all clear to get up and go over to her when the results were in. Walking over she listened to Cliff and looked at the results. So it was true... She was pregnant. She was competely stunned and didn't know what to say whatsoever. Eventually words came out her mouth in a gasp.. "holy shit"

John had to check the results about six times to make sure they were real, then performed about twenty check sin his mind to make sure this wasn't a dream, a hallucination or whatever other runaway mental situation that could be happening. "I think that's possibly the biggest understatement of this year" was all he managed to say in response to Kay's words. His head was spinning. How was he even supposed to act as a normal parent when he could barely function as a normal human. He had dealt with two pregnant women in his life- Chas's wife Renee (he was Trish's godfather after all) and his sister Sheryl, when she was pregnant with his niece. But there was one crucial difference, they were human.

What happened next was a discussion that needed to happen without Cliff's presence, and she knew that much. "I'll leave you two to talk everything over, I can't imagine this is what you were expecting. I would say give me a shout when you're done, but I'm kind of deaf....so come find me, I won't be far." She left the hearing aids on the table, as some sort of show that she wouldn't be listening in, then walked away. "Bloody bollocks I wasn't expecting this."

Kay watched him constantly check the results over and over again, to really understand that this was indeed real. She didn't need to read them repeatedly for it have sunk in, but she did go over it all in her head along with all those other thoughts. She couldn't even correct him on his reply to her only words that she could get out of her mouth. It was an understatement.... A massive one and they had said and seen some things that resorted in some pretty big understatements.

"Thanks Cliff" she replied, letting her know that she did in fact appreciate giving them the space they desperately needed right now. As she walked away, Kay couldn't help but sit down on Cliff's now empty chair. "Can say that again....I wasn't either..." She replied to him. "I thought we had so much longer together first before this happened.." she admitted, and was pretty certain he no doubt thought the same. "What we gonna do?" She asked him, almost just as scared to hear his answer as hearing the results.

"I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying and failing to take this all in, then when it finally sinks in it'll be three in the morning or some other similarly early hour." He ran one hand through his hair before continuing. The biggest question on his mind was when. They'd only had sex twice, but who knew if that was necessary considering their lives were prophecised and so on and so forth. "After that I'll pull my shit together and try and think rationally. But right now? I'm bloody hoping your other half knows something we don't, or that Chas knows something from the book as awkward as that may be."

"I've only dealt with two pregnant people before, Chas wife and my sister."
He turned to look at Kay, his body language and eyes conveying a whole spectrum of emotions. " But the more important question is how are you coping with all this?"

She couldn't blame him for wanting to spend the entire of this day trying to wrap his head around the news. She was bloody pregnant with his baby..their baby and neither knew how to process this. She nodded when he mentioned about Fee or Chas possibly knowing something. It was then she realised Fee was still around albeit she was giving Kay the silent treatment for some unknown reason. "Either should know... Fee hasn't really been talking to me since she last spoke to you so I'd suspect she would know something and probably talk to you and not me." Kay replied.

She looked back up at him and like him, her own expression conveyed slot of emotions. When he asked her how she was coping with the news, she didn't know how to answer it. She'd been trying to work out how to express her words this entire time and coming blank, but she had to try for John as well as herself. "I don't know how I'm coping...there's so many thoughts in my head I can't cipher through them properly. I didn't think it'd be so soon I'd be becoming a mother. John I'm terrified. I don't want to be a burden to you..to any of the others." She told him truthfully and it was obvious by her tone that she really was scared. She didn't want to lose John.

"Well this is bigger than whatever problem you two have with each other at this moment in time. So can you try to get something put of her, cos it's not just you that needs to know this stuff" John replied with a half sigh that expressed his general confusion more than any kind of frustration. He remembered that the two had had a fight over something or another while on the ship. Vastly hypocritical coming from him but this was no time to be holding any kind of grudge.

Kay's fears echoed his own. It had been a miracle that he'd gotten though his teenage life without knocking anybody up by accident, yet here he was as an adult, facing that kind of situation. He was already a parent but that was a whole different situation, and Kay knew that well. "I'm bloody terrified too, even if I am already a parent, Elliott was a teenager when he crashed into my life, so I'm only used to raising a teenager, which isn't easy, but at least he's self sufficient and responsible. And any child that's part me......is it possible to inherit being totally and utterly fucked up through DNA?" There was a part of John that hated just how screwed up and abnormal he was, and it was showing.

"And this probably sounds utterly selfish to be thinking about my other kid during this drama, but what the fuck do I tell Elliott? It's not easy to keep things from him, but it can be done. He's getting hit with having his own kid, who's dying in two different ways, and now this? I don't even know what to start with anymore." He sighed.

Kay got where he was coming from. Her and Fee did have a little spat with each other on the ship, and thinking about it that'd no doubt why Fee was being utterly petty and not talking to her. He was right, he did need to know the information just as much as she did. They were in this together. "Of course I'll try and get something out of her the moment I can" she replied to him. When he said he's bloody terrified as well, she wasn't in the least surprised. She would have been more surprised if he wasn't scared about this whole situation.

The moment he continued on saying how being a parent to Elliott was different and he was clearly terrified of their daughter inheriting his fuck ups, it made her be the one who stood up and grabbed ahold of his arms. "No..it's not. And you may think you're a complete fuck up John but you've done so much good. I couldn't have accomplished half of what I have without you. Not would Elliott I'm sure of it." She told him, reminding him once again he's more than he thinks he is. Him talking about how to tell Elliott made her shake her head, "it's not selfish John. No way is it selfish to think about Elliott when it comes to this" she told him.

"I don't know what you're gonna tell him but what I do know? Is that you don't have to tell him alone. And if it's possible, we have to let him get the news about Rinaa round his head first and we HAVE to get him home first. Then we can figure out how to tell him he's gonna be a big brother" she told him, instantly just hugging him when she was done talking.

"What the hell have you got yourself into now?!" Came Fee's voice. "And just like that...Fee is talking.." Kay commented, slightly pulling away from John.

Despite her words, the self doubt still lingered. John had worked with so called heroes and seen them do horrible, atrocious things, and he'd seen the so called villian do good. He wasn't sure what kind of a person he was anymore, he wasn't the hero type or the villian, he was the obscure grey area. His sister had lived through the same circumstances as he had, yet she had turned out souch better, so more normal. One of his first acts of life had been murder, and it hardly improved from there. The one thing he'd been dteremined about when he raised Elliott was that he'd turn out better than John himself had. There had been times when he'd considered getting somebody, anybody but him to raise the kid, in order to ensure he came out better than John.

"I honestly think he'll manage to take all this in far better than we are. Considering he's basically Trish's brother, I don't think having a proper sibling will bother him too much. Gods that kid is good at dealing with the crap life throws at him." John never usually invoked deities, they didn't exactly look favourably on him, but this was the rare occasion where he did. " Jay managed to deal with it, and the two were in prison together so there is hope. It all comes down to when the two meet."

When Kay hugged him, he hugged her back, needing the reassurance as much as she did. He hadn't spoken to Kay's other half very much, but she definitly knew far more than she was saying. " Here's hoping she knows something......anything really"

Kay had known from early on that John didn't see himself as either hero or villain, and she still accepted him for what he was. A flawed human being that cared for people more than he let on and still tried to do the right thing, even if it bit him in the ass in the process. She still fell for him before the universe told them they were meant to be and damn it, she was starting to accept the fact her heart was telling her she loved him. She thought he had done an incredible job at raising Elliott.

She could help but smirk slightly when he said Elliott would no doubt deal with the news better than they were and she definitely had to agree with him. Elliott no doubt would accept it better than they were. Hell, she was convinced if they were anywhere but on Attil and nothing else was going on, they may just be able to take it all in better themselves. "I think you're right...he does sometimes have more sense than us. Coming to terms with being a sibling has to be easier than coming to terms with being parent" she replied.

Kay nodded, that, he was certainly right on. Kay knew Fee knew a lot more than she ever disclosed, but she also knew Fee kept things from her due to wanting to Kay to figure them out for herself. "You're right John.. I do know more. And before you ask, Kay can hear this entire conversation, so whatever you want to know ask me now." Fee took over and spoke to John in a much more calm tone compared to what Kay's was and compared to how she spoke to Kay. To anyone else if they saw, it'd look like there wasn't a third being in the conversation, but to John, he'd see Kay's eyes slightly changed. The ember golden colour like burning flames in her pupils, but unlike before when her eyes were completely changed and covered over, her eyes looked normal.. almost like it was contacts in. A sign that Fee was letting Kay be conscious during this conversation.

He had to agree, it was far, far, easier to come to terms with having a sibling than being a parent. Looking back at his life, John had done both......sort of. He'd met himself....from an alternate universe, which was kind of like having a long list sibling.....and there had been that time that he had met his twin...again from an alternate world. Neither were cheerful stories. The latter was not one he dwelled on, choosing instead to banish it to the depths if his mind. He would have responded, but Kay had changed, flipped....whatever.

He was damn relieved to hear that somebody knew what was going on. There was a long list of questions in his mind, and as he spoke he started to pace back and forth as if that would unlock some hidden knowledge in his mind. "That's the first time I've been right about anything these past days" He remarked, an aside to himself rather than a response to Fee. "First, is Cliff and her tests right? And if so, when did this happen, which time? And regardless of the answer to those questions- differences between human and pheonix pregnancies, length, weird side effects, growth, development, what kind of stuff should and shouldn't be done, eaten, exposed to."

Fee and Kay both watched as John started pacing. Fee was curious to his actions, Kay expected this kind of behaviour. Fee took on board all the questions he started rattling off, making sure to remember each of them so she could answer them as best she possibly could.

"Cliff's tests are correct. I haven't spoken up until now because I was figuring it out myself. But she is indeed pregnant. I can not tell you when it happened however. Now for the differences... For the most part it is the same as human pregnancies. She'll have the same side effects of morning sickness, which you both have witnessed, she'll no doubt get weird cravings like humans do and she will have to stop drinking both alcohol and coffee. The biggest difference is most phoenix pregnancies are only 6 months and not 9. So she will experience growth and development much quicker than humans. Of course, like humans there is the possibility of premature births but it is rarer than in humans. She will be even more vulnerable when pregnant, and the downworld will get word of this. She'll be in more danger. When He'll hear about this, they'll want her more" Fee explained as in depth as she could. Kay listening in through the back door of her kind hated every word of it, but it was the last bit that she hated the most.
