Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay had noticed the second name on the door, and even if it wasn't there, she would have figured it out when Cal said about needing to ask about the bow stats as they weren't hers. She didn't figure out properly who could be the other person, until she noticed the ring on her finger. Before now, she just guessed it was a roommate. She nodded when Cal corrected her on the ring, that she was only engaged so far. She was close enough in her guess, so she still felt quite proud of her observations.

Then Cal confirmed her other question that was rattling round in her mind, she hadn't told Elliott. She looked over at John when he asked why, before looking back at Cal. The answer given to her was completely plausible to her. "I can understand that" she replied. It's not like either her or John actually officially said anything to Chas or Elliott either about their own relationship. So she got where Cal was coming from. "It's tough to find that moment and no doubt, all you've wanted to do is just generally catch up as much as possible with your brother" she guessed. "If I ever saw my sister again, I'd be the same"

John hadn't thought about it like that. The last time Cal seen her brother they were exiling him. She'd had no idea where he'd ended up, where he'd gone, if he'd survived. It was obvious now from her tone that she was still wrapping herself around the fact that he had been on another planet, living a completly different life. "So just to clarify, you didn't know Elliott was even alive until a few days ago." "Yeah, that's the gist of it. I found out from the prince, as soon as Elliott handed himself in to the League on Earth, the Devra officials sent word and photos back to the others on Attil. They themselves weren't even sure if he was alive. So anything they've told the League back on Earth, it's absaloute bullshit."

"Oh John called them out on it good and proper, get Jay to show you the dramatic bollocking of a speech he gave them." "Duly noted. Anyway, this is where having allies in high places comes in handy, the prince took one look at the photo, knew who it was, then sent it to me. After that, I made sure my shifts coincided with when he arrived and pulled some strings to get my crew on guard duty. Not me personally obviously, that would be too suspicious. Keep in mind I didn't know you lot were coming after him. So the night he arrived, I snuck myself in and from there the rest of the story is kind of obvious. I think the first thing I did was call him an idiot. At some point he mentioned that he had a friend who was a pilot. And despite saying not to come after him, they would, bringing the adoptive family and entourage along. His words not mine." "Accurate though."

No wonder Cal didn't just drop the bombshell of being engaged to Elliott amongst the other conversations she no doubt would have had with him. To not even know if your sibling was alive or not until being told he's handed himself in must have been super difficult to wrap your head around. If she was pessismistic like a lot of their group, she'd probably assume the same a out Sam, but she refused to believe that Ethan in his possessed state would have gone as far as to kill her. This whole conversation made her debate whether to try and find Sam when they reached home.

Kay then smirked and chuckled at Cal reciting Elliott's words about him knowing they'd come after him. Though a tiny part of her wondered if he thought of her just as the entourage or not. Considering she thought of him as family, and he certainly would fall into that category in the near future. "Very accurate" she agreed. "It's not like we'd let John do this crazy stunt alone. Someone has to reel him in sometimes" she smirked, but her tone showed she meant it lovingly.

(Warning, I'll be slower replying today from roughly 9:30am as back at work today for the star wars film)

Cal didn't show any outward response to Kay's tone. She wasn't sure who knew what amongst them, and it wasn't her place to interfere, even if John was....whatever he was to her. Sure he was Elliott's adoptive father, which meant he was something to her but not her adoptive father. And father in law was the wrong word. Sometime she'd actually have to figure it out, and there was the whole matter of her adoptive father/mentor person. That introduction still needed to be done, and she had no idea how it was going to go.

"Elliott told Jay not to come after him?" was the point Chas took from the whole thing. "Yup, he did. But she came anyway. Clearly my brother is an idiot in some regards." She took a look at Elliott and Jay, neither of whom had moved position or facial expression since going under. "I'm so going to call him out on this later" she smirked, already plotting how to do this, before turning serious again "then use it as an opportunity to tell him that he will soon have a sister-in-law." Cal knew she didn't need her brothers approval for who she married, but she wanted it anyway. It's not like anybody else in her family cared enough to give it.

(Okay, good to know. I feel suitably warned :) )

Kay just listened to Chas and Cal continue the topic at hand. She didn't really know what else to say to join in. She just smiled at Cal's response in regards to telling Elliott about her engagement in her own little way. She also knew Cal wouldn't know how to feel about her comment, and how to feel about John and what the ties are in regards to them. She did find it nice though that she cared about Elliott's opinion enough to want to tell him.

She just glanced around the apartment not really knowing what to do or say. Kay knew Elliott would be happy for Cal, she just got that impression from how close he was with Cal. She just hoped Elliott would take all the other news just as well.

Nobody commented on Cal's last statement, so she was gay or bisexual, that really didn't bother any of them. But neither John nor Chas willing to ask the question that had been praying on their minds, who is your fiancee? If Cal hadn't told Elliott yet, it made sense that he should be the first to know, and besides she could, quite literally be anybody on the planet. "Make sure to really well and truly embarrass him about it." "Oh I will, if he tries to deny it I will never let him hear the end of it." she smirked.

It was at that moment that a key turned in the door of the apartment. Cal checked her watch, confused. Clearly this wasn't planned. She was not expecting any visitors, let alone anybody with a key. The door opened and Rinaa walked in, pizza box in one hand, apartment key in the other. At first she didn't see them, she was too busy taking in the view. Then her green eyes widened and her jaw dropped slightly upon seeing the collection of people on the couch and chairs. "Oh shit" the mowhawked girl groaned, very nearly dropping the pizza box. Internally she was cursing her life choices and wishing she'd chosen to eat on the roof instead. Cal took one look at Rinaa, then turned to the rest of the group. "Okay, would somebody mind explaining why this teenaged girl with a mowhawk has both my brother and I's facial features, Jay looks, and a very nasty set of fangs is brandishing a pizza and has a key to my apartment?!?"

Kay smirked at the idea of Elliott truly getting embarrassed by the whole thing. Like the others, her sexuality did not bother Kay one bit. Sam was gay so it was no big deal to her at all. Then came the sound of the door being unlocked and in came Rinaa. Kay knew she shouldn't be surprised about her having a key to the apartment but it did. She wasn't expecting Rinaa to show up at all for some reason. Kay would have said hey, but she didn't after their last little chat.

Cal then started the inevitable of asking who Rinaa was a d why she had a key. It was awkward to say the least and had no idea if she should say something but she did anyway. "That's one hell of a story and one thing Jay needed to tell Elliott in the mindwalk. This is Rinaa... Jay and Elliott's daughter from the future...in other words, your niece" She explained, deciding the other stuff about Rinaa's fangs could be explained by someone else.

John and Chas had both turned at the sound of the door opening. The question of she had a key didn't even seem important in this moment. John of course thought that if Rinaa had arrived any earlier, she would have walked in when Elliott was conscious. And that would have been another shit show. Rinaa's timing was incredibly lucky, and she knew it. John and Chas both stayed silent after Kay offered her explanation. This was for Cal and Rinaa to figure out, it wasn't their place to interrupt. They scarcely breathed for fear of disturbing the scene.

The two regarded each other, green flecked eyes staring down liquid gold, a look that spoke volumes, even though neither were telepaths. Rinaa didn't move, even when Cal stood up and walked over, stopping just in front of her, looking her up and down. "You have my hands" was Cal's first remark. Both Elliott and his sister had strong, narrow fingers calloused in various places, Elliott's from guitar strings, park our and magic, Cal's from parkour, fire and general training. But Cal's fingers were shaped slightly differently to her brothers. "Yes" came the response, quiet, wary. "How did you get here?" Both were speaking quietly, but in the silence of the apartment, every word could be heard. Rinaa reached into her inside pocket and pulled out a wrist device, just like Cal's teleported, but with more wires and connectors.

"Deke figured it out" Again quietly spoken, she was treading carefully. "Always knew that guy was smart, but bloody balls!" Cal clearly knew who Rinaa meant. "He's even more of a mad scientist than he is now, and before you say that isn't possible, it is." A half smile spread over Rinaa's face as she spoke, and Cal had to smile at her words. Then she wrapped her arms around the teenager, giving her the hug she so desperately needed. "I'm formally welcoming you to this shit show, enjoy your stay."

Kay let Cal process the information in any way she wanted. She half watched as Cal stood up and walked over to Rinaa, figuring her out, and vise versa. She kept silent, like both the guys did, not sure how this was going to go down. It'd either go really well or seriously bad. Kay really couldn't guage which way it was heading at all and it made her sick with nerves.

Then came the chit chat and questions about how Rinaa got here. The moment the hug happened, Kay unconsciously sighed with relief that it wasn't going to break out in a fight or argument or something worse. She actually smiled at the welcoming from Cal, finding it a unique but accurate way of welcoming someone. She was actually glad for Rinaa that she had such a warm welcome from someone after all this time, even of she didn't show it. "That went better than expected" she thought to herself.

Kay wasn't the only one relieved by how it went, John and Chas slumped back into their seats relieved that they wouldn't have to deal with a pissed off Cal or Rinaa. Considering they had no idea how to deal with either, it could only end badly. Chas sent a look at John that said "I'm so glad that went well", I don't think I could cope with this going bad John's answering look said something along the lines of "me too mate, I have no intention of getting in between those two when they are intent on beating the shit out of each other"

And it showed in Rinaa's face, the relief at being accepted so positively and unconditionally without six million questions asked. Her introduction with Jay had been marred by their time spent together in prison, and Rinaa's deception. But what Cal offered was a fresh start. Even though she had history with Cal, this Cal had never seen her before. At this point Rinaa was basically an emotional wreck, on the verge passing out then sleeping for twenty hours straight.

Cal let go of her, then focused her attention on the pizza box. It was from the good pizza place, her favourite pizza place actually. "So what's in the box?" "A pizza far too large for my health, or what little is left of my mental sanity. The pineapple, chilli, pulled meats one, with prawn crackers and duck as extra toppings" She replied. "I'm gonna go eat on the roof, cos if he comes round when I'm here.....well I'm too tired to deal with it"

Kay noticed the relief on everyone's faces. Especially Rinaa's as it felt like she had seen nothing but anguish or pain on the girls' face. It was nice to see in Kay's mind, but she still tried not to get too worked up over it in any manner, as she knew Rinaa was still only used to this future nasty Kay. A version of her, that she wanted nothing but to stop from happening, even if it wasn't a good idea to try and change things.

Hearing Rinaa say she was going to eat up on the roof didn't surprise her though. She was used to the teenager running off and hiding from everyone, so doing it more so now Elliott was around seemed like nothing new to her. She did hope though that Rinaa would have the courage to meet Elliott sometime soon before being stuck on a ship home with him, where it could only be more awkward.

"Understandable, I might join you up there, so save me a slice if it's not weird?" Cal looked like she was taking everything in her stride, but her head was absaloutly reeling, she had a lot of questions, but was unsure of who to interrogated with them. The three main people in this whole debacle, including the one who knew the most were likely to be tired wrecks incapable of dealing with such questions at this hour of the night. "In the grand scheme of things, it's not that weird, so feel free to come up any time" was Rinaa's response. She debated ditching the backpack with the others, then decided against it. Last thing she wanted was to come down for something and run into Elliott.

So instead she gave the key back to Cal, climbed out onto the balcony and with one smooth movement flipped off the railings and onto the roof. Cal hung the key on the hooks near the door, it was the spare key. Then she sat herself down in the chair again, thinking hard before saying. "Well that went nowhere near as crap as it could have." "Out of all of us, she seems to have taken a shine to you. She's neutral on John, never met Elliott, has some grudge from the future against Kay and I don't Jay or Rinaa have any idea what to do with one another. They were in neighbouring cells in prison, Rinaa masked to hide her face, and plotted quite a few riots and break out attempts together. Not exactly the formation for a normal relationship" "And you?" "Somewhere between you and John on the scale. She helped Jay teach me to fly, so that helped."

Kay watched as Rinaa walked out to where they were earlier and go up onto the roof. Her attention went back to the main room, when Cal went back to them. She nodded at Cal's comment, as Chas replied with many valid points to solidify Cal thinking it went better than it could. She just briefly glanced down at her lap when he got to the bit about Rinaa having a grudge against her, before glancing up again. "Grudge is an understatement" she thought to herself.

She wondered when Jay and Elliott would be finished and coming back to reality so he could do his private chat with John. She just wanted the now awkwardness she felt to end, and with how late it was starting to get, she'd rather just sleep it all off, or do anything to take her mind off her thoughts.

Cal looked at her watch, taking note of the times. In order for the illusion to be kept up, Elliot bedded to be back in the cell in forty minutes time, as that was when the next shift change would occur. "They've got a little over half an hour before I need to get Qui back to the cell." So she needed to let him know. But touching Elliott while he was performing mindwalk was a risky thing to do. More often than not, his subconscious would simply suck anyone who touched his skin in. But she had developed a method around this when they were kids. "I hope this works" she continued, pulling out a marker.

Using the sleeve of an old hoodie as a glove, she carefully took hold if Elliott's arm. Skin to skin contact would suck her right in. Carefully she wrote in ink on his arm "You've got half an hour before I need to get you back use it wisely." John watched intently. He hadn't figured away around this barrier, usually waiting until Elliott deemed himself finished. "Oh that's bloody smart. The writing will appear on his internal projection?" "That's the idea"

(Just so you know I have a band thing from 11:30 onwards, and after that I have to help my grandmother with Christmas stuff, so I'll be on and off today)

Kay couldn't believe how quickly the time had gone. It was like she blinked and the evening was upon them. As Cal found a way to let Elliott know how much time he had left, she watched just as intently as John did. She was a curious soul after all, and things like this she always found fascinating. The moment John commented on it, she knew he'd remember that little trick incase he ever needed it back home. She also thought even if he didn't need it, he'd no doubt use it to just be a pain in Elliott's ass, her imagining easily John sending him stupid messages for the sake of it and be sure he could.

Kay let out a little yawn, putting her hand over her mouth as she did so, before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Her usual little habit after a yawn, that she no idea how that habit came about, but something she always did for whoever knows how long. She refused to go to sleep though until Elliott gone back to the cell.

(Okay, thanks for the warning :) )

"So that's how you counter being sucked into his subconsciousness. He never told us that" Chas remarked, also making note of the trick, annoyed that he hadn't thought of something that simple and obvious to get around it. "Either he didn't remember or he didn't want ye to know, I used to use it to send him annoying messages. I figured it out when we were kids. It's like the fact that he needs skin to skin contact for mindwaling to work, he also needs skin to skin contact to draw somebody in. It's obvious when ypu think about it in hindsight"

The yawn was contagious, and the other men found themselves resisting yawns of their own. Cal noticed this too. "I'm presuming you all are going to stay here for the next while. I doubt you want to spent any more time cooped up on that ship." "If it's not too much of an inconvenience." "Oh it's not, I did just give you free run of the apartment. There should be enough places for everybody to sleep between the two sprare bedrooms, the couch, the old beanbag chair, the roof and if you really want to, the bathtub"

Listening to Cal's suggestions on why Elliott hadn't told either Chas or John, she definitely thought it'd possibly be the latter, especially after she explained how she figured it out and what she did. "I'm gonna guess the latter. I wouldn't put it passed John to send stupid messages to him and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't passed John either" she smirked. She noticed both of them trying to hold back the yawns that she had caused a chain reaction of.

"It's appreciated, thank you Cal" Kay added after Chas checked it was definitely okay for them to stay and not sleep on the ship again. "Most of us can double up no doubt" she added after Cal explained about the space situation. She didn't just say it for selfish reasons either, she knew it was the logical thing to do and it's not like some of them haven't been doubling up already anyway. Yet there was a tiny part of her that didn't want to sleep alone incase she sleep walked again.

"In fairness, I would have totally abused that, and used permanent marker too" John smirked as Chas just rolled his eyes at his mate's antics. "Been there, done that. You're going to have to try harder to find a way to abuse that that I haven't used already." It was both a challenge and a joke. John accepted both.

She shrugged and smiled "its no big deal, I have the biggest place out of my gang, excluding the royalty of course. So usually everybody crashes here at some point or another. Hence why we have two spare rooms. Just a warning, they're kind of full of stuff, one of them is used purely for storing various armour." "How many suits if armour do you own to justify a whole room to store it in?" Chas questioned, intrigued by this. "There's the ceremonial guard armour, used for ceremonies and super official duty. Then there is the regular armour for everyday life, one and a half suits of that, cos something always wears out or goes missing. Then there's the sport armour, lightweight and matching. And then just for good measure a space suit. Multiply that by two cos there's two of us" "Fair enough, that does justify having an entire room"

With John's agreement, she knew she had hit the nail on the head with her comment, and was beginning to know him all too well by this stage. Though, considering they were soul mates in all intense and purposes, it would have been weird if she didn't know him well. "You realise he's gonna now accept that challenge and not stop until he finds something that trumps what you did as a kid right? You shouldn't encourage him" she smirked, knowing she herself out and out challenges him to who knows what regularly for different things.

Chas beat everyone to the question at hand when the topic came up. Kay figured they'd have a lot considering their job titles but it was still both surprising and impressive that there's be so much armour of varying kinds in the apartment. "Luckily I'm used to sleeping amongst many a thing back home so it's no skin off my nose so to speak." She chimed in. She really didn't mind where she slept and what was around her, she was just always thankful for a roof over her head, even after all this time.

"Oh I know" Cal smirked. "Why else do you think I said it? It's literally my job as a sibling to not be impressed by any shit anybody does to my brother, unless it's really out there." That earned a look of approval and a joking groan of "I hate my life so much right now." It was official, she was going to fit right in with their gang. She had the dirty mind, no doubt the skills to accompany the various weapons, and an arsenal of sharp remarks. Chas could see it, John could see it. Cal was really living up to Elliott's praises.

"Well if you really want to see a room full of crap, there's my old room in the forge. I quite literally just strung a hammock from the rafters of the storeroom and slept in that. Surprisingly comfortable actually....although that could have been because I was shit tired. Spoiler alert, blacksmith work is physically and mentally tiring." Despite the energy and effort, Cal loved working in the forge. It just felt right, like she had a connection to it. Maybe it was being surrounded by fire, and being able to use her gifts to create something beautiful that wasn't there.

Kay nodded with a smirk, yeah, Cal was definitely going to fit in well and had Kay won over. There was no mistaking she saw a lot of herself in Cal in a few ways, the dirty mind, the cheeky quips.. she liked Cal alot. "Yeah...you're gonna fit right in just fine. Though I don't know how these two" she pointed her thumb towards Chas and John, "will handle two women who can give as good as they get and have a dirty sense of humour" she grinned.

She chuckled at the information on the forge, "hey..even a hammock sounds good to me. I spent two years on the streets sleeping on concrete in alleyways or in homeless camps, relying on my phoenix side to keep me warm. Anything is better than that, let me tell you." She told Cal, feeling like she could trust her with that information. She knew she told Chas and John when they first met about her living on the streets, but she couldn't quite recall telling them the full extent of what she went through and how she slept. So she had no idea if that bit of information would be news to them or not. Yet it was true, of it wasn't for Fee wrapping her wings round her body in the alleyways, she would have frozen to death alone. It was the toughest time of her life, and she went through a lot of crap during those days on the streets and not just from the demons chasing her down.

John made a mental note to never introduce Kay or Cal to his sister or Renee. Those four together would be an unstoppable force criticising everything about him, drinking copious quantities of alcohol and bitching. It was a terrifying thought. Kay's description of sleeping rough didn't surprise him, he knew how shit life on the streets was. He was both a realist and a doomsayer. He'd spent a few nights rough himself, but nothing compared to the volume that Kay had.

Whatever Cal was going to say in response was cut off by Elliott and Jay returning to the conscious world. Jay looked drained, her sleepless nights and the emotional turmoil of both explaining Rinaa's existance, their time in prison together, and showing Elliott some of the memories from the darker part of her life had taken a lot out of her. Breaking contact, she fell backwards into the couch with a mutter of something in a language that nobody in the room understood. Elliott had fared better in the ordeal, but it was blatantly obvious that he had a lot on his mind and now was not the time to dump any more shit on him. "welcome back kid. How're you taking everything?"

If Kay did ever meet his sister or Renee, her only criticising or digs about John would be done out of love for him. Though she had heard how much Renee disliked him and she knew she'd still defend John like crazy if she said too much bad stuff about him, or tried to talk her out of being with him. No criticism or quips could ever outweigh the love she growing for him.

She saw Cal about to respond to her reply about sleeping rough, when she too noticed Elliott and Jay come back to reality and look worn out from the discussion they had, and things shared between them. She noticed how Jay looked a lot worse than Elliott which wasn't much of a surprise, considering how crap she looked from lack of sleep and such before hand. Kay then noted Elliott's state, saw he looked better than Jay but still clearly trying to compute everything he found out. She wouldn't have expected him to come out looking great or cheery, but she did still feel sorry for him, knowing it was going to play on his mind a lot tonight once alone back in the cell.

"Shattered. I feel like I've gone through ten rounds of high intensity boxing, and a mangle. Bloody glad I'm not an empath though, I'd probably have collapsed and given up had I been one." He sighed, running a hand through his hair, Jay had shown him some pretty full on stuff. It would take a lot of thinking over in oredre to wrap his head around everything. He got off the coffee table (which was particularly uncomfortable) and sat down on the arm of the couch instead.

His emotional state was justifiable. None of them quote knew how exactly Jay had chosen to explain it. But since mind walking was involved, they could all agree that memories of some sort had been shown. The question being which memories. Rinaa on the ship with them, cold distant, masked? Rinaa half feral, making her best attempt at killing Jay? The Rinaa Jay had known in prison. But now was clearly not the time to ask. Whatever way Jay had told him, John and Chas trusted her to have done it right. Even if they hadn't trusted her at the start of the journey, they trusted her now (at least on certain things). "Sounds about right, considering the shit we've added to the already ongoing shit hurricane." "I'll get my head around it eventually. It's just a lot to take in."

Considering the news that he needed to have, it was no surprise to Kay that Elliott felt the way he did, even without being an empath. There was no way anyone could hold it against him. She also knew not to question what he now knows, because he did need to wrap his head around everything. Like Chas and John, she did indeed trust her to tell him tactfully.

"Of course it's going to take a lot to take in. But we all know you'll get there Ell" she told him. He was a strong kid, she had seen him take a lot in his stride, and knew this would be no different. Kay also thought that it's be better for John to tell his news in the mindwalk the next day after everyone has rested. She knew in her heart that John would think the same thing.

(Sorry it's taken me all day to reply, been at work and not had a chance to be with my phone)
