Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Elliott nodded at Kay's words. "If anyone has any other ground breaking revelations, leave them til tomorrow, one is quite enough for me." He knew he'd pull through all this eventually, but it was just so overbearing when all thrown at him at once. He was going to be doing a lot of thinking that night. His alien physiology meant that he didn't need eight hours of sleep like a human did, he only needed four, maybe five on average, but despite this, he was going to be loosing sleep mulling over everything Jay had told and shown him. John just nodded in response to Elliott's remark, there was no need for words.

Jay on the other hand had taken a different approach to dealing with everything. Somehow in the few minutes since they had emerged from the mind walk she had managed to fall completly and utterly asleep. But nobody had realised this until she slumped sideways, her head resting on Elliott's shoulder. "What did you do to her, catharsis or something?"

(It's okay, I'll be on kind of sporadically the next few days because of Christmas)

"wouldn't dream of putting anything else on your shoulders tonight" Kay confirmed, along with John's nod. When Jay slumped over against him and John spoke up, remarking on Jay's sleeping form, she only then noticed Jay was in fact asleep. "The girl needs it, we all do" Kay commented truthfully. It was true, they were all yawning or holding back yawns out of tiredness and only talking about it moments earlier.

So Kay figured it was only right that Jay stayed on the sofa as she was already asleep, and as Kay was still sitting next to her at this point, she figured it'd be best to move rooms or seat at least so they could lay Jay down and let her sleep in peace. "Maybe we should leave Jay to it, I'll feel bad sitting here and not letting her lay out properly to sleep" she commented once more. She already had it in her mind to room share with John so Chas could have his own room, which only let Rinaa to decide where she wanted to go, whether she'd want to stay in the room with Jay or crash in Chas' room or something.

(Yeah same here XD! It's kinda expected over the next few days for everyone I think)

"Yeah, she needs it, considering she can't sleep on spaceships." Elliott replied at the same time as Kay spoke. The confusion was evident on Cal and Chas's faces. "But she's a pilot is she not? A smuggler, fighter and racer judging by her chequered past and who she ran with." "Yes Jay is a pilot. And all of those things, and more. But the inability to sleep is a new thing. She used to have no problem with it. But ever since her brother's ship exploded in front of her, she's been unable to sleep on a spaceship." Elliott explained, saying more than Kay probably wanted them to do." Bloody hell, why did it explode?" Cal asked, the shock clearly written on her face. Ship explosions were nasty and usually fatal experiences.

"Sabotage, but Jay didn't find that until a few days ago when the Rats sent over the black box copy. Up until then, she blamed it on herself, she was the one covering his back when the comms went dead." He explained, clearly Jay had told him more than just the whole Rinaa story. "So let me get this straight. Despite having trauma of some sort from losing her twin in a spaceship sabotage, and you explicitly telling her not to come after you, she still stole a ship from the League, took your gaggle of people along with her, even though she had no reasons or personal connections with them justifying doing so?" Cal asked. When she put it like that, it was pretty damn obvious just why Jay had done it. "Yes, that's about the size of it." "You're a bloody idiot" Cal sighed.

(Yeah, and my family follow the German/Eastern Europe traditions, so Christmas for me is tomorrow evening)

Kay didn't think it was any of their business of why Jay couldn't sleep on spaceships, she had guessed it was to do with her brother, but that was enough for her to know. If Jay wanted the rest of them to know, surely she would tell them herself. Then came Elliott and explaining everything anyway, which clearly showed he got more information than just the topic of Rinaa. Needless to say, the explanation made Kay feel sorry for her a whole lot more and it was even more obvious of Jay's feelings for Elliott of why she came here.

"Cal's right... You are an idiot if you can't see why she did all this, so I really hope you do Elliott. Because that girl is head over heels for you, just like you are for her. Basically, you don't get a girl like that every dynasty... Not many people will put themselves through emotional turmoil with people they barely know to get one person back" Kay said, throwing in a Mulan reference in the middle of her sentence.

(Ooh cool! My mates family does the same thing)

Elliott at first had no clue why Cal was calling him an idiot. But then came Kay, adding context. He was surprised by both Kay's thoughts on the matter and her willingness to voice them. It wasn't a secret that he liked Jay a lot, but he had no idea it was so obvious. Which made him think back to the nights with A. J's gang, when A.J. and Scott would declare themselves the second cringiest couple, with the second largest amount of sexual tension out of the group. But neither had ever said who the most cringy couple was. Looking back with hindsight they were talking about him and Jay.

Elliott had to make a conscious effort not to look at Jay who was still asleep on his shoulder (admitingly, he did like the feeling of her asleep against him). There were two choices here, deny it, or confirm, then question what to do next. Denying was the easiest (but futile) path. "Considering she gave me a black eye just before I came here, I somehow doubt that." This was where John inserted himself into the conversation. "And why were you two arguing in the first place?" "Because I'd broken into the Watchtower for intel in order to actually see what the Devra wanted, and had decided to go ahead with the plan. We were arguing because I'd broken in with no back up or tech on comms." "And Jay runs both tech and comms for A. J's gang, along with Kane"

Cal let out a sigh. "Let me give you some life advice little brother. I made not have been in yours for over ten years, but I know a thing or two. When there is a person who is willing to fly themselves across the universe for you, that's the person you want by your side for the rest of your life." Cal wasn't just describing Jay, she was describing her own partner, and Elliott caught on to that almost instantly. "You have somebody" "Yeah, I do. A fiancee."

(My Polish and Ukrainian friend do the same as me, but the rest of my friend celebrate Christmas as the 25th, so every year we always end up debating which is better (it is never resolved))

She noticed how surprised Elliott was that she voiced her opinions and the obvious facts on the matter at hand. Granted it had been a while since she so openly voiced her opinions so willingly, but it was warranted now and she knew everyone who was awake in this room would back her up and agree with her. So she didn't worry about making her voice heard by him.

She listened to all three of them chime in adding to the conversation, even if Elliott did try and debunk the whole 'jay likes me' statement. "Cal's right. Women don't make insane adventures for people if they're not completely in love with them. Jay is no exception, no matter how much you want to try and not believe it she does care for you more than friends. All of us see it, now you need to. She's just as scared to admit it to you, as you are to her, so straighten that backbone of yours and tell her how you feel when you can." She explained a bit more. She was also glad that Cal got to let him know she was engaged and happy.

"So in the words of a certain animated crab, 'it don't take a single word... Just kiss the girl'" she thought to herself.

(Lol!)

The first thing Elliott wanted was an explanation or at least some sort of context from Cal. "Wow, congratulations Cal....Would I remember them from when I did live here?" He was genuinely happy for her, and instantly curious to know who. The chances of him remembering her fiancee were slim, if they had even been on Attil while he was. Cal considered "I'm not sure. She'd moved to Attil when you were still here, but I don't know if you'd remember her. She's a cryokinetic." Elliott thought on that "wait...do you mean the one with the blond hair, who they always used to put you against in training because of your opposite powers. The" he made a gesture with his hands, which Cal interpreted with a half smile that spoke volumes of affection.

"Yeah, she's the one" "You have to introduce me sometime, of that's not totally weird." "I will, I promise you on that, but that is besides the point. The point being that crush the size of a small galaxy that you have on Jay." Then came Kay's spiel, which all the others agreed with. It was obvious from their body language. "Yes grow a fucking pair." Cal refrained from making the jab on her mind, it was too soon. "And if it turns out we're all wrong, I'll patch you up afterwards."

As Elliott and Cal explained who the girl was that was engaged to Cal, suddenly the codename fire and ice to get into Attil, made sense to Kay. It took a hell of a while for it to click to Kay, but it finally did. She didn't let anything on about it, just thought about it internally.

She was actually glad that the others continued to agree with her and Cal telling him to man up in her own way.. a way she would have worded but decided to word it slightly more politely than Cal. Cal having a lot more warrant to word it the way she did. Kay couldn't help but smirk at Cal saying she'll patch him up afterwards of they're all wrong, even though they all knew they weren't. Kay thought the only way Jay would attack Elliott again, would be to give him a possible punch for taking so long to say something or some other similar cliche reaction. She could imagine Jay being the type to punch Elliott then complain at him for taking so long. Though of course, she could very well be wrong.

Another yawn then escaped her, as she quickly covered her mouth as she did so.

Chas had the exact same realisation as Kay about the codename. He had to laugh internally at Cal sneaking in such a blatant reference to her personal life without them knowing. He guessed that it was something others used to refer to Cal and her fiancee, so whoever was on duty at that time from Cal's crew knew that they were safe to let through. Very clever, and very subtle. Unlike Cal's method of telling her brother to 'man up', sure it got the point across, but John was in no doubt about what she wanted to follow it up with.

Elliott was about to say something when Cal's phone went off. She answered, knowing exactly what it was about. "Yo, Deke..... yes I know what time it is......yes, we're getting ourselves over as we speak" she gestured at Elliott to get up. Which he did, carefully removing Jay's head from his shoulder. In her state of both mental and physical exhaustion, she was too zonked out to register this and continued sleeping. With that the two siblings grabbed hold of each other and vanished in a flash of light.

Kay had no clue that Chas had the same realisation as her, due to her not mentioning it out loud. She didn't see the point in bringing it up when it wasn't exactly something that needed to be spoken about or considered important as such. Yet like Chas, she thought it was incredibly clever and subtle. It was things like this that she started to figure out that made her respect Cal all that more. Then came the phone call for Cal. Just from her replies, Kay figured out exactly what it was about, so when she took Elliott back, she knew she was right.

Seeing Jay completely out for the count, she looked around the living room, before spotting a lone blanket behind Chas. Getting up, she walked over, grabbed it and walked back to the couch. Slinging the blanket over her shoulder, she pulled up Jay's legs so she was laying properly down on the couch, before she laid the blanket over her. She decided she'd rather stand up than have Jay sleep in an awkward position and possibly do her neck or back in by the morning. The whole action was quite maternal, but Kay didn't think of it that way, it was just something she'd do for anyone and did for Sam plenty of times over the years when Sam would come in late from a date or something similar, and crash on the couch in the most awkward of positions ever.

Normally Jay would have put a blade to the throat of anybody who dared to move her while she was sleeping. But this wasn't her normal medium-light sleep, this was deep sleep that came from the need to catch up for all the hours she'd missed while on board the ship. Had she slept in a weird position while on the couch it wouldn't have affected her too much anyway. The advantages of being trained as an assasin (not that there were many things about being trained as an assassin that would be considered advantages).

Rinaa had been eavesdropping from the roof, not for all of the conversation, but the parts where Elliott had been conscious. At one point she had hung herself backwards down from the roof to view what was going on. Curiosity and luck had been on the same side for once, and she hadn't been seen. Cal reappeared a few minutes later, minus Elliott. "Judging by the yawnfest earlier, Jay isn't the only one in need of sleep." she gestured at three doors. "Bathroom there, smaller spare room there, larger spare room there. Mezzanine is mine, apart from that, pick wherever."

Kay was just too much of the type of person that thought of others before herself, that wasn't to change now. It was a wonder why she'd ever think she wouldn't be a good mother when she did simple things like tucking other people under blankets or tell someone if they like someone, to just go for it. Just to be a couple of things. Then again, she was used to not thinking much of herself despite facts of many a different kind, proving otherwise. Like the other two, she didn't spot Rinaa eavesdropping or watching the group. If she had, she'd hope that Rinaa was beginning to see a different side to Kay, one that she didn't know existed in her timeline.

She looked up when Cal reappeared moments later, and told them where all the rooms were that they'd need to know. Kay nodded in acknowledgement, "thanks Cal" she said, again, something out of habit of bringing brought up with manners. "I dunno about you two, but I'm gonna call it a night" she said, aiming it mostly at Chas and John.
She then began to walk down the corridor, and checked both size rooms, deciding to go with the larger of the two and walked inside. She removed her jacket and sat on the edge of the bed. "Man..what a day" she muttered to herself.

John and Chas took note of which room Kay went into. Chas had already planned to take the smaller of the two rooms anyway, it just made sense. "I'm crashing out too, this has been a long, and weird day, even by my standards." "Can't argue with that mate, I totally agree." John added getting up too. "Yep, fine by me. If you need anything, give a yell. I'll either be on the roof with the kid or upstairs. And if you hear somebody entering the flat at five in the morning or some similar early hour, don't worry, it's just my other half coming back."

"Gotcha" Chas entered his room first. He had the armour room. The suits were neatly hung and/or boxed. They were well crafted, particularly the ceremonial ones with all their detailed engravings. The sports armour was the plainest, made simply of leather, and Chas had to wonder what kind of sport merited armour for its contestants. The room Kay and John were sharing seemed to just be the dumping ground for everything. There was a large selection of books, old pairs of sleek rollerblade style shoes, a second ironing board and various boxes of stuff. Some of it was clearly Elliott's old stuff from the lock-up judging by the labels. "bloody bollocks That was something else" John sighed, falling backwards onto the bed.

Kay let the others say their goodnight's to each other and to Cal. She was aware as she walked into the chosen room that Cal was telling them something, but she didnt pay attention to it. She just kicked her boots off as she sat on the edge of the bed, before looking up as she heard Chas walk into the other room opposite and John walking into the room she was in. The many things inside not phasing her, as she was used to sleeping around lots of stuff, as she stayed so earlier.

She glanced over at John as he fell backwards onto the bed and smirked ever so slightly with a sigh. "Could say that again... Was just thinking the same thing" she agreed, as she pushed herself properly onto the bed and laid flat on her back, staring up at the ceiling. "It's sure mentally draining" she added, as she scrambled to get under the duvet. "No doubt we'll have to go through more of it tomorrow" she said, her tone showing how tired she was by this stage. It was quieter and low. A single yawn more and her eyes drifted shut falling asleep, not knowing if he replied to her or not. She wouldn't have put passed her to have fallen asleep as he was talking, and him finding her asleep mid sentence.

"It's just everything draining" He agreed, before realising she had fallen asleep. He could just have stopped talking, but instead decided to monologue to himself for a bit. It started with "Johnny boy, what the bloody Hells have you gotten yourself into this time?" And from there it kind of just spiralled downwards into a rant about the stupidity of his various choices, and could the universe not just leave him alone long enough to have a I'm uncultured and a drink in peace? Evidently not it seemed. Which then lead to why am I the shit taker of the universe? Eventually John finished bitching and felt all the better for it.

He pulled off his boots, hung the trenchcoat over a random box, took off his tie and shirt, then flopped onto the bed. It wasn't long before he too fell asleep. Chas in his room had passed out too, leaving Cal and Rinaa the only two awake in the apartment. And as promised, Cal sat on the roof with her time travelling niece, eating reheated pizza, not questioning, just letting the words and the silence flow between them.

There were only two disturbances in the night, one being Cal and Rinaa coming down from the roof more noisrly than intended, which woke Jay. But only for a few minutes before she nodded off again. And the second was the door quietly opening at just past five in the morning.

Luckily, Kay didn't sleep walk through the night, something she was genuinely concerned about, but there were times when it wasn't the most relaxed sleep. She turned from side to side a few times and whimpered inaudible words in her sleep. Whatever she was dreaming was unsettling her. Eventually it stopped and her sleeping self had scooted up close to John, and was hugging him. After that, she slept with no echoing voices in her head, no mysterious songs, and no more unsettling dreams. Her breathing just became steady and once again, she looked peaceful asleep. Kay didn't even wake up when both disturbances occurred.

The next morning, Kay woke up cuddled up to John, she didn't recall falling asleep in the position or even John properly getting into bed, which made her realise she must have been more tired than she thought last night. Readjusting her position the tiniest bit, she just smiled to herself. Life was a shitstorm at the moment, yet she still found the solice in the little moments like this.

John didn't dream of anything that night. He didn't wake either, his sleep too deep to register what was going on with Kay. Had he not been so tired, he would've and would have attempted to do something. But the long day had taken its toll on him as it had on everybody else. Yesterday had been a day of revelations and shocks and near death experiences for them all. Chas also slept longer than he usually would, not escaping the exhaustion of the past few days.

John woke a few minutes after Kay did. Before even opening his eyes, he could feel her weight against him, and knew she had spent a good portion of the night curled against him. "Morning." He said softly, sounding a lot more alert and energised than he had the day before. Catching up on sleep had done him the world of good.

As she felt his breathing change as he stirred awake, she glanced up at him from her position as he greeted her. "Morning" she replied, like him, she sounded well rested and more alert. The sleep definitely did her good, despite the unsettled sleep for part of the night that she wasn't even aware of having. It was like waking from a bad dream and instantly not remembering what the dream consisted of. If she had remembered, she would have been dwelling on it all day and been distracted. She would have remembered that the images she dreamt up consisted of her being successfully taken demons and corrupted by them to become a weapon.. her daughter, a blurred image, trying so hard to bring her back from the brink with John. It definitely was a good thing that neither of them wasn't aware of sleeping so badly initially.

Kay didn't even need to ask if he slept alright, she could tell he did just from the tone of his voice. His soft tone, always being a calming effect on her, even when she didn't need calming down. It didn't matter how long they went on sharing a bed and laying together like a normal couple, she still found herself treasuring it wholeheartedly, as if it's the last time she'd ever get to be with him. Then came a wave of nausea she wasn't expecting, and she bolted up out of bed so fast, she was in the bathroom before she could compute she even got out of bed. Reaching the bathroom she found herself being sick. "What the hell?" She asked herself

John would have said something in response, had Kay suddenly jumped up and bolted out of the room with no warning whatsoever. His brain took a few seconds to comprehend what had happened, then he ran after her. The sight that met him, Kay getting sick, and the clear confusion on her face shocked him. He had no idea what could be causing it "Bloody hell, are you alright?" Stupid question, but she clearly wasn't so he had to say something.

The other people in the apartment heard the commotion too. Jay and Rinaa were both on the roof and so missed everything. But Chas and Cal arrived, followed by Cliff, who hadn't bothered to change out of her medical scrubs since she'd arrived back that morning. Cal was sure she spoke for everybody when she said "explain what's going on, with as little syllables and freaking out as possible."

Kay was squatted down on the ground over Cal's toilet, taking deep breaths when she realised John had followed her and showed concern. From his question, she could have easily came back with some snarky reply but she refrained from doing so as another wave of the nausea hit her. She tried to hold her hair out the way, when eventually she managed to reply to him. "I don't know.." was all she could simply say, as she thought she'd be okay long enough to slump against the wall.

Then came the embarrassing bit of three out the other five people storming the bathroom. "I don't know...I was fine..then next thing I'm here throwing up" she explained in as short a way as possible. She felt horrible that everyone was in the bathroom staring at her, and pulled her knees up to her chest trying to ignore most of them. She noticed Cliff and how she was dressed, suddenly realising that the fiancé spoken by Cal must be Cliff.

Though that was the least of her thoughts. She was nauseous out of nowhere, in between feeling fine and wished of all the timing, this wasn't going on now. Yet it was, and there wasn't much she could do about it.

Cliff immediately saw that this was a situation of too many cooks spoil the broth and that Kay was both overwhelmed and embarrassed by the entirety of the gang crashing in on her. It was bad enough being sick. So being the only one with proper medical qualifications in the room, she took charge. "Okay, everybody but Kay, get out." All immediately went to raise objections at this, but the purple haired woman was firm. "Unless any of ye are doctors, then you are just making things worse."

For once they all listened, and trooped out, Cal being the last to leave. Cliff waited until they had retreated down the corridor, before pulling the door shut. "Okay, I need you to explain everything again, this time with more detail, as I didn't hear a word you said earlier." Cliff seated herself in front of Kay. Her tone was calm, soothing and precise, but it sounded different to when she'd spoken to them the other day.

Kay was thankful that Cliff told them to leave, and as nice as it was that they wanted to object, she really didn't want to be crowded in. Though she wouldn't have minded if John stayed, it was everyone else that made it embarrassing. She didn't object, and gave them all the reassuring nod that she'll be okay to help Cliff in making them all leave. "I'll be okay guys.." she told them, just before they finally left and walked down the corridor, leaving her with Cliff.

Kay looked at Cliff as she seated herself in front of her and asked her to explain better due to not hearing a word she said. "I don't know what else to say. I woke up perfectly fine, just relaxing in bed with John when I got this wave of nausea appear in my gut and next thing I know I'm in this bathroom vomiting...and now the nausea is subsiding after everyone came barrelling in refusing to leave me" She explained. Little did she compute it was a sure sign of morning sickness. "And I know it's not because I'm disgusted by John" she joked.

Cliff focused on her words, and her whole body language in general, more than any person would normally. Yesterday they had seen the chatter and knowledgeable side of Cliff. Once she was on a subject she knew lots about Cliff would talk endlessly about it provided there was an audience. But what Kay was seeing now was the rational and logical side of Cal's fiancé. Cliff had her theory alright, but wasn't going to just blurt it out. She could be horribly wrong, and a misdiagnosis could be both awful and distressing, she wanted to be sure.

Cliff chose her words carefully, cracking a half smile at Kay's joke, but her mind was clearly elsewhere. "Nah, it isn't that, don't worry. Would you mind if I ran bloods? There's only so much I can speculate without any scientific backing, and the lab has the best equipment in the city. I don't think there's anything wrong, but as a doctor, it's kind of my duty to make sure."

Kay definitely saw the difference in Cliff's manner and it put her at ease much more. She could see Cal loved the woman. Seeing Cliff crack a half smile at her joke, actually helped her relax more. As most people knew about her, if she was worried about something she'd crack a joke to help herself. She listened to what Cliff said, and something just told her to trust Cliff. So she nodded her agreement to her question. "Sure. If it gets possible answers to why I just randomly came over sick, I'll do it." She said to her.

Though she did wonder how John and the others would react to being told she's being taken into a lab to do some tests to see what's wrong. If it was truly nothing, surely there wouldn't be any need to get some blood tests done, and going by how John and Chas aswell as Cal refused to leave her alone for Cliff to check on her, she had a feeling there'd be lots of 'if she's going I'm going with' from them. Which she wouldn't mind in all honesty.

Cliff would have gotten blood samples one way or another. It wasn't her style to go behind somebody's back on most things, but when it came to health, she had to find the answers. It was her job too. Even if they weren't the answers wanted or liked, they were the truth. And as painful as the truth was, it was better than living a lie.

"It'll get answers, it just might take a little while. Blood analysis is slow compared to x-ray or other scans. It's probably nothing, maybe a reaction to something on Attil, after all, this isn't the planet you evolved for. It's not that different from Earth, but the differences are there." Cliff actually had two theories, but the other one- pregnancy- was not to be thrown around lightly. And it could just be something on Attil, so she had to be sure and not misdiagnosed.
