Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

It was obvious now that this place was almost hypnotising Kay. It was like she was just gliding around room with how light footed she was, but there was distance in her stare.

She walked over to the back wall and glided her fingers over one particular artwork. The original Phoenix. She felt like even in this dream it was just pulling her to it. She just couldn't place her finger on why or how. The original Phoenix felt so familiar, like she had known her all her life but that had to be impossible. She was born in 1988, not in the day of Eve.

Maybe it was because she was a direct descendant of her, maybe it was something else. She scrutinised the painting when she got a sudden vision in her mind and her eyes glowed ember. When the vision ended it knocked the air out of her lungs. "Mom?" She just reacted.

Jay's eyes widened as she read. Realisation dawned on her. "Oh shiiiit!" Concentrating hard she gained control over her physical body, while still staying rooted in the dream. Her real body twitched, then pulled a pen out from her pocket. Her dream self and physical self began to write on their arms, covering them in strange runic script.

John was tempted to intervene, clearly this place was having some kind of effect on Kay. Her dream body was in the cave, but her mind was elsewhere. But she was learning, and finding more and more of the pieces of the puzzle of her life. So he leaned against the wall and just watched her.

She wondered how this was at all possible. Was her mom really the original Phoenix that Eve cursed out of jealousy?! That opened up so many more questions to her. She unaware of what Jay had discovered and making note of using her abilities.

Her hand had to break from the wall in that instant so she stopped touching it. Her eyes went back to their grey blue shade the moment her fingers stopped touching the painting. She felt nauseous from what had happened. "...my mom is her" she said in a breathy voice, disbelief in her voice, as she turned to John. "I'm the daughter of the first phoenix ever created". Her legs began to give out from under her the moment the words left her lips.

Well, John hadn't been expecting that revelation. He did manage to get to Kay before she collapsed. The memory couldn't harm her of course, but everything still felt extremly real. "Well bugger me." was John's response, as he let everything sink in. He managed to stay upright, but just about and back in the real world his body slumped deeper into the seat.

Elliott's attention was on Jay. He couldn't read the writing on the walls like she could, so he was reading the runic notes on her arm. With one shaky hand, Jay silently reached out and ran her fingers across one line of glyphs. Her face had turned to ashy grey. Whatever it was that she had read, it wasn't good at all.

Kay grabbed ahold of him to steady herself. "Thanks" she said, just before he reacted to her news. She felt like her life would only be in more danger if The First knew her bloodline. That was just one of many questions she had buzzing round her mind.

She looked across at Jay and Elliott seeing that they had clearly had found something major as well. She wasn't so sure she wanted to be in this dream of hers anymore. Though not physically hurt, she was feeling very emotionally pained. It was beginning to be too much for her. "Guys can we wake yet because I want out.." she asked, still just generally feeling winded from what she found out. She was still holding onto John for support to stay upright

"Yeah, we can." Elliott replied, and even as he spoke they found Kay's memory being wiped away and replaced by Elliott's London skyline. Another instant and they were all back in reality again. John's first reaction was to run both his hands through his hair, then grab a cigarette from the pack in his pocket. Although he didn't light it just yet.

Jay and Elliott didn't let let go of each other's hands at first. Instead they both glanced at Jay's left arm, which was was covered in uneven pen scrawl. "You got any blank pages 'round here?" she asked, not aiming the question at anybody in particular. Elliott nodded "I'll show you, come on." He stood up, letting go of her hand in the process.

He wanted to speak to Jay alone, but he also sensed that John and Kay would want to do the same. The two vanished further into the library.

Kay felt so relieved when Elliott agreed to waking up now. She watched as all her surroundings changed before walking up properly. She looked to see she was back in The House's library and on the couch next to John just like before. She noticed how neither Jay or Elliott let go of each others' hands instantly.

When Elliott guided Jay to find some blank pages she leaned forward in the couch instead of back and just shoved her head in her hands. Her hands pushing her hair off her face. "Just when I thought my life couldn't be more complicated" she muttered more to herself than to John.

"Let me dispense to you some some Constantine family wisdom. There is no thing in life so screwed up that it cannot be made worse, or more complicated, or more dangerous." John sighed, quoting his sisters words almost exactly. The only change was that she usually said "there is no thing you cannot make..."

John was slumped forwards too. He hadn't lit the cigarette yet, his mind was whirling with too many thoughts and questions for him to bother. He idly flipped the lighter around in his hands, back and forth and around his knuckles in an unconscious serpentine motion. He often did that when he was thinking, as if the movement of the lighter would somehow jolt his brain cells into action.

Kay didn't lift her head but she did turn her head to look at John. "Nice to know" she said almost sarcastically, but there was a smile on her face when she said it. Sighing, she let her head drop onto her knees.

"I just...can't wrap my head around it you know? I know Fee would always how rare I was but THIS rare?! The bloody daughter of the first ever phoenix?" She said, as if saying it out loud would make it any easier to digest.

"It's what my sister would say to me when I screwed up. Which happened a lot to me as a kid, and even more as a teenager." There was a fondness in his voice, clearly he cared about his sister.

"It's gonna take time to adapt. This sort of information.....it hits you full on like an eighteen wheeler. But you'll make peace with it, eventually. I believe you're strong enough to get through this."

She smiled hearing the fondness in his voice and she wished he'd show this side to him more. "Sounds like your sister was a smart woman" she replied.

Then what he said next knocked her for six metaphorically. She sat up and looked at him, it had been so damn long since anyone has thought that about her. She didn't think anyone was out there who'd think that of her, let alone the one and only John Constantine. "Thanks John... Times like this I forget I guess I can get over huge hurdles like this. You'd think a girl would learn after being on the run for two years on her own" she said back honestly, her last line making her smirk.

"So you do care about me" she thought to herself as she knew better than to say it to him. Even though she did wish he'd just say it, just once to let her know where she stood.

"She is. But we don't see each other a lot." he sighed. "and when we do meet up, it either ends in a crazy sibling arguing or getting so pissed that we black out." he continued internally. They were overdue a meet up, maybe he'd bite the bullet and give her a ring later. But more likely he wouldn't do it and she'd just turn up out of the blue some day.

"Everyone needs a reminder every once in a while." he shrugged, as if his earlier words were no big of a deal. He was still fiddling with the lighter as he spoke.

She wondered if he wished they did see each other a bit more or not but it wasn't her place to interfere with his family life.

She wondered if there was anything else on his mind other than the shit storm that was her dream. Hearing his reply be so casual compared to before she sighed. He really drove her insane sometimes and this was one of those times.

It got to her to the point that she had to place her hand over his to stop him from fiddling with the lighter. She didn't say a word to him despite many choice words going round her mind. She needed to try and trigger him to speak first about them. She felt like things were changing between them, particularly after that caption in the book. But she knew it was changing from last night when she had the dream.

He got the message and tucked the lighet back into his pocket, and tucked the cigarette behind his ear, sighing slightly. He was well aware of how people felt about his smoking habits, particularly those close to him. But he had no intentions of giving up any time soon. Even though he knew the consequences, he needed that vice, otherwise he'd drink himself to death instead.

He didn't say anything either, just sat there, thinking. Partially he was focused on Kay and her discoveries. But another part of his mind was focused on Elliott. And Jay. They'd found something too. But he had a feeling that Jay knew far, far more than she was letting on. And there most definitely was something between the two of them, that hadn't escaped his notice either.

She didn't stop him from fiddling with the lighter because of her dislike of his smoking. The constant fiddling was just irritating in a way because it's all she could see out the corner of her eye.

Like John, she also wondered what Jay had found in her dream. The look on Jay's face in her mind didn't go unnoticed by Kay whatsoever. She also wondered when the two of them would get back, the silence between her and John was starting to become deafening. "All this thinking is making my head spin" she sighed, falling back on the couch. Deep down she wanted what she had with John last night.

"John? I....." She began but sighed, "nevermind" she backed out. For the first time around she actually backed down from speaking her mind.

"Ditto" he sighed. "My head feels like it is full of angry demonic wasps." He had actual met those at one point, but that was another story entirely. He turned to face her when she started to ask him a question, but then she backed out. That was put of character for him, which meant he was even more interested in knowing what she was going to say.

"You can't just leave me hanging like that." He sighed, scratching at the side of his neck.

She grimmaced when he said about leaving him hanging. "I knew I shouldn't have started to say anything" she thought to herself. Truth was she was terrified of saying her thoughts out loud to him.

Taking a deep breath before exhaling she knew she had to say it or he'd just get it out of her anyway. "I was wondering if we were ever going to acknowledge the unspoken thing between us" she blurted out quietly. "Because there is and I can't take the 'i can't care about anyone' bullshit reply a second time. I know you feel it too" she added, actually scared to look at him this time.

Kay deserved an answer. Only problem was John himself didn't know the answer. Give him a magical totem and he could tell you what it was for, who used and how much it would be eorth on a black market. Give him a poker game and he could con his way into winnning every single time. But give him human emotions and he'd run a million miles.

Bu he would try and explain. "I don't know. I guess saying it out loud makes it real...... and if it's real then I have something to loose, something people can exploit as a weakness. Plus this whole prophecy thing." He wrinkled his nose as he said the word prophecy. "I guess I just don't like not being in control of my own actions. I get dragged into enough crazy shit against my will as it is." He didn't look at her as he spoke, he couldn't.

She listened to what he said and she honestly understood where he was coming from. She truly did, and she hated the whole prophecy deal as well. She knew what she felt was real but that damn writing and picture made her uneasy as well.

"Oh believe me I hate not being in control as well, and yeah... Saying what we have out loud is the scariest thing I've ever considered. I don't DO love, romance, dating whatever you wanna call it. I've left that to Sam to seek out before. But I can't take this anymore John. I can't take feeling like I'm in the dark when with you, like last night I felt like I was FINALLY home" she explained, grabbing his hand.

"We're both in the same boat here...I don't wanna say it loud as much as you don't but I want some kind of acknowledgement we're on the same wave length. If that makes sense" she continued. "Please John" she said once more.

He felt her hand wrap around his, and sighed. He would have liked to retort with "I'm in the dark about me" or some other smart remark. But this wasn't the time or place for that. He chose his words carefully.

"Yes.....we are. There is something between us and it is only growing. I don't understand what is going on any more than you do. But I have a feeling we are only getting pulled in deeper. And for better or for worse, it seems you're stuck with me." His voice was quiet, but it was still audible.

She took on board what he said. She was surprised he was so easily admitting it in his own way. She couldn't help but squeeze his hand when he spoke. "Then I'm stuck with you. I'm willing to accept that." she told him.

She hesitated her next move massively in her mind, trying to calculate every possible reaction possible before deciding to accept anything he does. She pulled his head to face her, her thumb rubbed his cheek. Prophecy or not, she knew she found where she belonged looking at him. So she tried once more and kissed him.

She didn't care if Elliott and Jay walked in on them or not at this stage.

John had been drawn to Kay for a while now. He'd sensed that there was far more to their relationship than just chance. It was fated. So he'd done what he always did when faced with a prophecy- he denied it, he shut it out, he fought it. But he knew it was futile. Kay would always be drawn towards him, and as much as he didn't want to admit it, he was drawn to her. So when she pulled his head around, he didn't shy away. And when she kissed him, he kissed her back.

Of course within a split second of their lips touching, there was an interruption. But not in the form of Jay of Elliott (who were plotting in one of the side rooms) as he might have expected. It was Chas, arriving through the front door. "Oi! Mate! Where in this bloody maze of a house are you?" Chas could have simply searched for them, but it wasn't called called the House of Mystery for nothing.

John broke away from Kay, his usually icy eyes, somehow warm and cold at the same time. "Down in the library! If you see Elliott, send him down will ya?"

The moment he kissed her back and she saw he wouldn't push her away, Kay knew in that second trying to deny their feelings for each other was a loosing game. Even she had tried to ignore it, to pretend her last move on him never happened, but everything around her just seemed to make her fall harder for him. She knew neither of them had to say it loud how they were drawn to each other, actions always spoke louder than words anyway in Kay's opinion.

Then came the interruption of Chas' arrival and she couldn't help but smile slightly. It felt so cliche to her it amused her. She noticed the warmth in his eyes show through, mostly because she was pretty damn sure that it was the same for her. She was a wreck earlier, and now she was feeling less as such. Before Chas made it downstairs, she kissed John on the cheek then muttered into his ear. "Talk about cliche timing huh?"

He smiled softly at that, it was actually typical for something like that to happen. "Yeah. But that's Chas for you. Usually his timing is impeccable" He then turned and appeared to speak to thin air. "House, find Elliott and tell him to get himself back here, cos Chas arrived."

Chas descended the stairs into the library. He flopped down into his usual seat opposite John. Raising one eyebrow he asked "what did I miss? Your message was vague, as usual." John started to explain, Chas interrupting every once in a while to ask questions. It was clear that he was taking in everything, and that the wheels in his mind were already turning.

Elliott and Jay arrived about halfway through the explanation. It was clear from the redness of her skin that Jay had scrubbed off all the writing and transcribed it onto the sheaf of papers she was carrying. She caught sight of Chas and her expression turned to one of shock and surprise, perfectly mirroring the expression on Chas's face. Jay was the only member of the Elliott's gang Chas hadn't met before, but it seemed that they somehow knew each other already. "Bloody hell, it's you" they both gasped at the same instant.

Kay couldn't help but let out that soft chuckle of hers at his reply. Now that she thought back to it, Chas was always impeccable in his timings and arrivals back at the normal apartment. When he told The House to get Elliott she still found it stupidly cool that the house could do that. She truly found the house incredible.

As Chas appeared she was sitting up a bit to stretch her back out a bit from being sat so long. She then did her usual bringing her feet up, tucking one under her, and one foot pressed down on the edge of the couch. She was pretty sure it's become her default sitting position by now. She draped her arms over the knee that was upright, linking her fingers and ever so slightly leaned against John as he began explaining to Chas the current situation so far.

When Elliott and Jay came back into view, she noticed the scribblings on her arm had been rubbed off but she went surprised and confused when Jay and Chas clearly knew each other. "I take it you know each other?" She spoke up for pretty much the first time since Chas arrived and sat down.
