Kay couldnt help but smile watching Jay and Elliott. Like John and Chas, she found them highly amusing when they bickered like kids.

She had almost forgotten about the papers of translated heiroglyphs until John picked them up and shuffled through them. When Chas asked what was up with Jay and Elliott she looked over at them. "Elliott likes Jay but doesn't have the guts to ask her out and I think Jay is the same way. So they have this whole....thing going on." She started saying, motioning her hand in a circular motion gesturing their current 'relationship' status. "As for the papers, these are what Jay and Elliott have translated from heiroglyphs we found in my dream...in a hidden room that depicted my mother as the original phoenix Eve cursed out of jealousy." She then added.

"So you know... Normal same shit different day stuff!" She said in a tone that had a smidge sarcasm, and sass to it.

"Let us not forget that they both tried to kill each other when they first met. I'm guessing it's either that their kind don't like each other and have some kind of ongoing fued or one of them insulted the other and it escalated from there." John added. "The second one sounds far too likely. But if they did fight, no holds, Jamie would have won. So I'm guessing something happened before she could do that." Chas continued. John was surprised at just how much the cabbie knew, making a mental note to quiz him later.

Chas laughed at her final remark. "unfortunately true." John began to read through the stories, some he recognised. Others he didn't. The last page was not translated into English, it was still writen in runes, with certain sections under lined and marked. He recognised that there were two handwriting styles- Elliott's and Jays, any notes they had made were in runes he couldn't read. "look at this" he flipped the page around and showed it to Chas and Kay "they know something."

"how could one forget that?" She smirked in response to John's comment about the two of them trying to kill each other. She nodded at Chas' comment and response agreeing with him and grinned when her final remark made Chas laugh.

She looked over at John looking through the papers when he spoke about how her and Chas should look at what he noticed. Looking at the translated information then spotting the bit that was translated but still in a language they couldn't read she had to agree with John that the two of them were definitely keeping something from them. "That has made me more curious to what shocked Jay in my dream now" she remarked.

"My guess, something she read. She can read the hieroglyphics fluently, that much is evident, and unless she's latently pheonix or once knew a pheonix, then it must be something she read." John reasoned logically. Chas couldn't help but agree with that statement.

"And the fact that the two wrote notes in these runes instead of in regular writing means it is important. Very important. But she keeps her secrets to the grave, so asking her might produce nothing." Chas sighed. "In other words we know fuck all"

John shook his head, "we do know that Kay's mother is in deep with this. Maybe this library has something on her? Or does anyone have a better idea?"

Kay tried to believe John's logical reasoning. He's been right about previous things after all, so he had to be right about this. She didn't like the idea that Jay would keep something about her from her though, so Chas' reply wasn't all that reassuring to her.

When John said about checking out the library for information on her mother she nodded, "Let's do that. Apart from those stories I told you about that she told me, I don't really know anything about her, despite I was close to her." She replied, hoping this House had some information to help her.

"Right then, mythology section it is" John practically jumped off the couch. He didn't look back to see if the others were following. Chas muttered something sounded like typical arsehole under his breath before following John. The House of Mysteries possesed one of the greatest libraries of any civilastion, and with a bit of luck and guesswork, John led them the right way.

The mythology section was, like all the others, filled with different scrolls and books and loose pages. There was no dust on the books, even though they hadn't been touched for a long time. Open on the floor were a selection of books and next to that a pile of parchment pages. "Looks like somebody else has been researching" John muttered. Chas picked up on of the books and turned the cover to face John.

"No prizes for guessing who." The book's cover was made of thin metal, and titled Isogrii- The Oncoming Storm Mythos

Kay quickly got up as she caught what Chas muttered and smirked. She had to admit that he wasn't wrong in saying that and yet she had learned quickly to just accept John wouldn't wait up when they decided to head to somewhere. In fact as she thought about it, she was pretty sure them heading to this house was the only time he did wait for her to keep up because they both needed to put their coats on. "You're not wrong there" she muttered to Chas back.

Catching up finally she gazed around at the section finding it incredible the extent of the section. She looked down at the open books John gestured to before glancing at the cover as Chas picked up one of the books. It really didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that was Jay. "Oh I don't know Chas, I mean, that could be anyone. It could have been the invisible Man for all we know!" She said in a sassy sarcastic teasing tone as she grinned cheekily.

Chas just rolled his eyes, while John smirked. "Can't be him, he's in Bali right now, probably stoned off his head." Chas internally griped about how he was surrounded by idiots, before beginning to read the book, starting with the story it had been opened on. "you two can be the comedy, I'll do the research then."

He had a point, John started searching through the shelves for anything that could be vaguely pheonix related, gesturing for Kay to start at the other end. Chas read in silence, his face showing little reaction to what he was reading. His expression was one of intense concentration and thought.

Kay couldn't help but laugh when John joined in being a bit of a twat for the sake of it. Moments like this showed Kay why she felt so bonded to John. When they both for like this, they clearly had the same sense of humour.

With her serious head back on, she nodded to John and began looking at the opposite end to meticulously search for anything phoenix related. She lightly grazed her fingers over every spine she looked at making sure to fully take in what each title was and logo.

It was feeling like a fruitless task for a while until something just sparked in her as she touched one book. Pulling it out she started walking back towards John and Chas. "Guys I think I found one!" She spoke up.

John looked up from his end, but Chas barely raised his eyes, clearly engrossed in what he was reading. "well open it and take a look then. Your connection will make it easier for you to find the information than for either of us." John told Kay, standing ip and leaning against the bookcase before turning to Chas "So, mate, anything useful there?"

He nodded, flipping a page "some damn violent aand intriguing apocalypse mytholgy. This guys don't do it by halves when it comes to the apocalypse." John didn't fail to miss how impressed Chas sounded.

Kay did what she would do in general libraries when she used them to a hiding spot and to relax with a good book, she walked to next to John then just sat on the floor cross legged, flipping the book open. He did have a point about her probably knowing more of what would be helpful than either of them.

She shut out what Chas said the moment that book opened in her lap and she started reading it. She found the first page even had a contents page, so she used her index finger to scroll down to see if anything stood out amongst the rest. "Nope nope nope nope....yes" she muttered to herself, flicking to the relating page.

PAGE 28 - THE ORIGINAL IMMORTAL BIRD

"Not so immortal"
she thought to herself. She began reading thoroughly. Most of it was indeed the story she grew up being told. So nothing new there then stuff started becoming more interesting to her. Portraits of her mother were amongst the words and stories of how she created an entire race from her first ashes and a single feather from her wings. The God who fell in love with her, gave her the moors that Kay saw in her dream. These actions made Eve's jealousy grow and grow.

John and Chas briefly discussed apocalypse theories, both saying it would be human stupidity that was the cause, but they couldn't agree on the method of apocalypse initiation. And somehow that turned into a competition to come up with the stupidest method. Jay and Elliott arrived during this discussion and joined in, both offering ever crazier reasons.

But eventually they fell silent, Chas handing back the Isogrii myth book to Jay, who said he might as read the whole thing. The four ended up reading other, unrelated books while they waited for Kay.

Kay kept reading about her mother, she was completely oblivious to their discussion and Jay and Elliott's return. It stated the moors that her race loved was in fact Paradise, THE Paradise. It was that place that granted her kind the powers and lifespan they had.

Her mother all those millennia ago was practically seen as their Queen. She couldn't help but scoff a choked back snigger at that. She never could envision her mother like that. She was amazing sure, but practically royalty? She couldn't see it. It also spoke of the war and destruction of her kind and how her mother managed to escape and continue living life over and over again. Like Kay, she lived in hiding until the year she met Kay's human father.

Even her own birth was documented on the book. She found that ridiculously weird, too weird for her to read. "Nope nope nope! Not reading about myself, that's too weird for me" she stated. "One of you lot can!" She added.

They all looked at each other. Nobody really wanted to do it. "I'm not, I'm only here cos you needed my abilities and literally nobody else was around." "I'm not doing it either." Elliott added quickly making a face as he spoke, clearly he found it weird. Which only left John and Chas

"As the only responsible one here. I'll do it" Chas extended a hand for the book. He wasn't exactly happy to do it, but he had a feeling he knew full well why John shouldn't be allowed to do it. John shouldn't be trusted with that kind of information anyway, and he knew it. "good call mate."

Kay looked between them as they seemed to all not want to do it. She got why partly, if she found it weird reading about herself then they must do as well.

"Thanks Chas" she said earnestly handing him the book on the bit that she came into it. The book would have mentioned about how she was incredibly rare, not just in the fact she is what she is but because she was technically a half breed. It wasn't heard of even in the phoenix world. Mostly due to the fact most humans wouldn't have survived the whole process, male or female. Yet somehow she was conceived and born a had blood. That was just the tip of the information iceberg about Kay.

Chas read, fully aware that Jay, Elliott and John were all watching him intently, trying to read his expressions and body language. Luckily Chas was the owner of a very impressive poker face, so any shock was masked. Eventually he managed to ignore them completly.

Finishing the section, he shut the book and looked up at the others. "Well?" John asked. "Well what?" He answered. "You know it's going to take a couple of hours for everything to sink in properly."

Kay stayed on the floor the entire time, she knew she should get up at some point otherwise her legs would go numb from being crossed for so long but she just couldn't be bothered.

She watched Chas intently for a while before she leaned back on the bookshelf and stared up at the ceiling for a bit, before leaning forward and resting her chin in her hands. This little routine happened a few times before Chas closed the book and she sat up.

"And the wait continues. But thanks for reading it Chas" she said, standing up finally and like she predicted dealt with numb legs.

"You're welcome" he told her. John and been pacing around as Chas read, unable to stay still. Elliott and Jay had leaned against a bookshelf, side by side, not touching, but close together. They almost melted into the shadows, neither of them saying a word.

"I guess until you've digested, we'd better find something else to do with ourselves" John said.

Kay agreed with John, they definitely needed to do something to pass the time. Her first thought was alcohol if she was brutally honest to herself.

"Dunno about you lot but I could use a drink" she piped up. Today mentally was taking it out on her, she felt like her brain would implode. She was still processing what she read about her mother, wishing that she felt she could tell her the truth when she was a kid and not say it's all just fairytales and fantasy.

"I could always use a drink." John smirked. Chas didn't doubt that for a minute. He headed up to the ground floor. Elliott, Jay and Chas all followed him. The kitchen was on the ground floor and getting there involving going through some various corridors.

The kitchen was similar to the one in John's apartment, basic and slightly run down, but none the less fully functional. They all leant against various parts of the kitchen counter. Chas was deep in thought. Jay was cleaning her nails with a small butterfly knife. "pick your poison people."

Kay followed pursuit to the kitchen feeling so glad he had a kitchen in this place and she could finally drink away. Reaching the kitchen, it felt like a home away from home scenario due to how similar to John's it was.

Like the others, she too leant against the kitchen counter, if she was anywhere else she'd have probably jumped up and sat on the counter but she didn't want to risk pissing The House off by doing so.

When he said about picking their poison she was a simple woman. "I'll be happy with anything you got to be honest. If it's alcoholic I'm happy" she chimed.

"I'm driving, so I'm going to raid the fridge." Chas replied, doing just that. Predictably there was nothing to eat in there. "so much for that plan. The fridge of Constantine is a let down, as always." Jay sniggered, flicking the dirt from under her nail with an elegant twitch of the blade.

"Something strong. Alien metabolism, burns right through Earth alcohol." She added, flipping the knife shut and tucking it back into her pocket, with the same elegance that was visible in a lot of her emotions. "Chas we got any ice?"

Kay chuckled at Chas' remarks. She wasn't surprised one bit that John didn't keep the place stocked up. She swore of it wasn't for Elliott and recently, herself, John wouldn't never have food in any place.

She noticed Jay's quick elegance in using the butterfly knife but said nothing. She didn't see the point. When John asked Chas if they had any ice she couldn't help but think he should know. But then, she had no clue how long it had been since he was last in this place.

"Ice and frozen peas." Chas smirked opening the freezer. "The one thing you always have." He took the bag of ice cubes and tossed it at Elliott. "Here." Elliott caught the bag, opened it and popped a few in his mouth and began to to chew them, before passing the bag to John, who simply dumped a whole load in a bowl before giving the bag back to Elliott.

"Kay, what do you want to drink?"

Kay found Chas' reply amusing and when she saw Elliott eat ice cubes like candy her teeth seem to hurt just watching. She could never understand how people could do that.

"Depends what you got, but honestly I really don't care. There isn't much I won't drink to be honest" she replied to John, desperate to sit down again so she couldn't resist doing her thing that makes her comfortable. So she jumped up and sat on the counter. "So I will probably regret saying this, but give me anything, surprise me" she smirked at him, crossing one leg over the other.
