Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Sandwiches and subs were a great idea, and not just in Kay and Fia's opinion. The others nodded in agreement, deciding that this was also what they were going to get. "That sounds like a good idea actually, it'll fill you enough for the trip, but still leave room to have something proper on the other side, so I'll take one as well." "Same here." "Count me in on this too." "And me, I could murder a sub right now." "Basically subs all round by the sounds of it." Cal stated, leaning against the glass as if it wasn't the only thing separating her from the void of space outside. Rinaa nodded, knowing the perfect place to go for all this, a chain store that seemed to have an outlet at every space gate. There was just one flaw in this excellent plan, she didn't know everybody's standard orders.

"Sounds like a plan, I know a good place here. Only there's one slight flaw. I know everybody's usual sandwich orders here......... except for you three." She gestured at Fia, Kay and Elliott. "Mind filling me in?" The way she said it was offhand, without any hint of embarrassment, as if revealing this information (or lack of it) was like baring her soul to them. The reason she didn't know was blatantly obvious, Jay had never mentioned Elliott's sandwich order when telling her daughter about him and for Kay, Rinaa and Fia to eat in the same place it would actually require them to get along or at least tolerate each other civilly. "Uh, yeah, meatball sub with those weird crispy meat bit things they do here."

When Elliott spoke up saying what a good idea it was, Kay nodded as that was exactly her thinking on the idea, and she also thought it made things so easier for Rinaa when everyone else agreed they could easily go for a sub. "Well it makes things easier for Rinaa" Kay commented. As Rinaa said about knowing everyone's usual order except for hers, Fia's and Elliott's, at first Kay thought it was a bit creepy but then it dawned on her milliseconds after that she would know because of her timeline, and suddenly it wasn't a creepy or weird thing to come out of Rinaa's mouth.

It made sense why they would be the three she wouldn't know, considering the state of her timeline, so she let Elliott say his order of choice first, before saying hers, "sweet chili chicken and salad for me" then Fia was the last to speak hers, "my usual which is always roasted chicken and salad with barbeque sauce on a cheese topped sub if they have it" she never had any other sauce in her sub and very rarely went for anything that was different. It was a running joke in her timeline that if she got someone to pick her up one, and if she ordered something different there'd be gasps and fake fainting involved.

Rinaa rolled her eyes ever so slightly at Elliott's slightly flustered description of his usual order. She knew exactly what he was referring to by 'those weird crispy meat bit things'. Jay picked up on the internal panic in Elliott's mind as he tried to both remember his sub order and wrap his head around the fact that this was one of so many simple thing Rinaa had never known. Jay found Elliott's flustered response quite endearing in a way (not that she'd ever admit that out loud). Rinaa nodded at the rest of the orders from Kay and Fia. "Right, got it, they should have that. I'll be back in probably......" she calculated how long it would take to get eleven subs made up, factoring in queuing and paying. "Ten minutes or so."

Rinaa disappeared, just as Cliff came back from making her call. She'd had to do a video call as an audio-only call never quite worked properly with the hearing aids. "Where's she going?" She asked, jerking her head at Rinaa's retreating back. "She volunteered for the food run, feels its a good use of her money in this timeline. Everything else is being donated to science, more specifically the lab she works at." "A noble cause on both counts." Cliff nodded, leaning against the wall beside Cal, who wrapped an arm around her waist. "Anybody order for me?" "No need, she already knows your order." Cal replied. "So, how'd she take it?" "A mix of annoyance at me giving such short notice, followed by that smug parental delight that I'd followed her advice and decided to come early, with a whole load of added extras."

True to her word Rinaa arrived back a little over ten minutes later, balencing three trays of subs, two on her left arm and one on her right and winding easily around the other people on the deck with a strange grace and ease. "Finally a practical application for all those hours spent doing tables at A.J's. I see." Elliott remarked, taking one of the trays on instinct. The subs were helpfully labelled and those who could read the language grabbed theirs quickly, leaving only Kay and Fia's behind.

When Elliott had his flustered moment, Fia did think she could have tagged on him in that moment, but she decided against it knowing it wasn't the time or place to do such a thing, and she figured she had ragged on him enough lately. Especially as she knew in her timeline he ALWAYS got his own back eventually on her which turned into a very competitive game of trying one up each other. So she didn't want to risk giving him ideas from the amount she had already ripped into him, which was more than enough ammo and reason to get his own back if and when it ever occurred.

With Rinaa walking off and Cliff returning, Kay and Fia kept out of the topic of how Cliff's mother took the unexpected last minute visit, even though they both heard what was said. When Rinaa eventually got back, both girls watched as the teenager expertly got back to them both with the three trays balanced perfectly on her arms. With everyone else taking their subs, Fia and Kay took the risk of just grabbing one of the two left over subs, and opened them to see if they got the right ones. Which they didn't and made a swap without a single spoken word. They knew it was a 50/50 chance of getting it right the first time, so it wasn't too much of a surprise that they got it wrong. Fia took a bite out of hers, feeling very glad of the food which was surprisingly good. She was picky with her subs, and this held up to her standards of a good one.

Kay took a bite out of hers, liking that hit of chili that hit the back of her mouth, which also made her realise she was most definitely ready for some food. "Not bad at all" she remarked after a mouthful.

The others tucked in, all the non-Earth born people choosing to lean against the glass as they did so. Rinaa had been right when she said she knew everybody's regular order, she'd got the subs spot on. She also knew most of their guilty pleasure orders too. There were nods at Kay's comment on food. It was a good shop, they didn't cut corners on getting the good supplies and the fresh ingredients (unlike certain other chains they could name). "Of course its good." Cal replied taking a rather large bite out of her sub. "Though after a flight like that one you always end up starving. And hunger makes all things taste better." "Very true." Elliott nodded. "And on Earth they have a saying for that- 'hunger is a fine sauce'."

"You learn something knew every day huh?" Cliff answered and Rina could tell by the expression on the doctors face that she was filing this information away for another day. Chas looked at them all leaning on the glass of the observation deck and wondered how they could so that without having the complete panic he'd have knowing that only glass protected him from the void of space. "Okay, I gotta ask, how can you all just lean there on the glass so casually as if the vortex of space isn't right outside it?" There was looks of amusement between them, before Rinaa spoke up. "Well some stations have an outer forcefield to protect from meteorites and the like, but it also serves as a way to keep passengers and staff safe. So there is a safety net. But really we've just become acclimatised to the whole thing, been doing it since we were kids and all that." "But even that has limits. I don't know anybody who doesn't physically blanch when walking walking across the floor of a glass bottoned observation deck."

Kay and Fia also found it strange and disconcerting that they were all leaning on the glass like it was a brick wall or the like. Kay could see what Cal meant about a flight like the one they were just on, making you starving. As Elliott spoke up and mentioned about the saying on Earth, she rose an eyebrow as she personally had never heard of that saying herself. "You're not the only one Cliff. I've never heard that saying in my life" Kay commented.

As Chas then spoke up about them all leaning on the glass, Fia was particularly glad he brought it up, but so was Kay, curious to how they could do such an action with no worries at all. As Rinaa explained why and how they could do it with a carefree attitude, both girls noted their amused expressions to Chas' question. As Elliott mentioned about the glass floors of an observation deck, it reminded her of all those tourist places that has glass bridges on Earth, or a glass swimming pool ridiculously high up, sticking out of a hotel. "urgh..that reminds me of the stupid things we have on Earth. Like the glass bridges in China or wherever they are that wind round mountains..there would be no way anyone would ever get on those things" Kay said. She wasn't exactly someone who would shy away from challenges, but she had her limit and that most certainly was it. "I've seen videos of those! Have you seen the one where it pretends to crack and shatter under your foot when you step onto it?" Fia chimed in, making Kay nod and shudder.

Elliott was suprised at first that Kay didn't know the saying, and neither it seemed did John or Chas, but he quickly realised why. "It's more of an Irish saying than a British one I think, Marty says it a lot, but mainly just to rag at the twins when they seem to just hoover up their food." "Not just the twins, don't forget Toby." Jay smirked, taking a bite of her roll. "I don't think anybody could forget Toby." Elliott retorted, then switched his focus back to the conversation about glass bottoms, weird observation decks and tourist attractions located in stupid places. When Kay said that nobody would ever get on such a thing there was some smirks of 'are you quite sure on that Kay Hale?' from John, Elliott, Jay and Rinaa, the adrenaline junkies of the group who would definitely have such places in their search history.

"That sounds pretty damn awesome actually. Has anyone seen that cliff ledge like six centimetres wide in Australia that you can do and walk along without climbing gear?" Rinaa asked, chucking her sandwich paper into the bin and leaning against the glass again. "Yep, I'd totally do that. But what is far more fun is those hanging hotel things in the Himilayas where you have to free climb up to the pod in order to sleep there. Takes about two hours if you go carefully. Though I did in about and hour and a half." "When did you do that?" Elliott asked, wondering whne Jay had found time to get to the Himilayas. "That time when Scott was heading to Nepal for reaserch purposes, I tagged along for fun, plus to get away from everybody."

When Elliott said it was more of an Irish saying, it suddenly clicked why Kay wouldn't have heard before, and she didn't feel so stupid for not hearing it before when John and Chas clearly hadn't either. As for the glass bridges conversation, she instantly regretted saying that no one could get her on one of them with the reaction glances at her. She knew exactly what those looks were saying to her. Fia instantly brought out her phone and did a quick search on YouTube, finding the prank videos of said bridge. "Here, this is it" she said, showing everyone.

Kay listened to the story that Jay told about the hotel's you have to free climb up to get to, and it just put Kay on edge. Once upon a time she might not have shuddered at the idea so much, but becoming pregnant she was more out off with the idea than ever before. It was changing her entire mindset, thinking of safety before anything else. "I would SO do that" Fia commented. "No you wouldnt missy" Kay said, making Fia roll her eyes.

( the video)

They all crowded around to look at the video, which was admittedly insane looking, and just the kind of stupid thing that was up their alley. "I'd totally do it." John smirked, in response to Fia and Kay's overprotectiveness. Parkour would surely have given Fia enough skills to have a decent go at it, plus it wasn't like she could die doing it. (Not the thought he was probabaly supposed to have as a parent, but he was having it anyway). With regards to the fake breaking glass walkway he knew he'd walk it in a hear and would try to bring along somebody he knew who was scared of heights just to see their reaction when they found out he was fucking with them big style.

"Well that's a surprise to nobody here." Chas smirked rolling his eyes. "I'd do it too." The blacksmith shrugged. "Free climbing is a thing I did and still do a lot of." "The views are totally worth it, plus there's nothing like getting the back of your neck sunburned, then irritated with chalk dust." Jay agreed, making a mental note to ask the blacksmith if he knew any good places to climb on Attil. "True that." Rinaa nodded. "Ever seen competitive speed climbing?" The blacksmith asked, to which Jay nodded and Rinaa shook her head. "Think massive climbing wall that you have to get to the top of as fast as possible. With the professional ones it's literally like the just run straight up the wall." "It's being put in as an Olympic sport back on Earth I believe, though competive climbing has been around for ages." Jay pulled out her phone and found some clips of speed climbers blasting up walls with such ease that it looked as if they weren't even on a vertical surface.

(A friend of mine was getting so hyped about this sport for the 2020 Olympics, and I gotta admit it looks insane

)

The moment John said he would also do the stupid things Fia was showing and Jay as talking about, after Fia said she'd do it, Kay was both not surprised and narrowed her eyes at him but her smirk gave her away that she didn't mean the glare at all. It also showed instantly the hint of what kind of parents they could very well end up being, which Fia was used to. Kay being over protective and John encouraging her to do what she wants to a certain extent to learn from said experience.

Chas spoke what she was thinking, that it was no surprise John would do something like that. Listening to the lot of them Kay just shook her head smiling, whilst Fia was grinning and liking the idea more and more. "You are so your father's daughter" Kay remarked to Fia, chucking her now empty sandwich wrapper in the nearby bin. "Why thanks!" Fia smirked smugly, taking it as an utter compliment. "You both are gonna scare me to death one day...I just know it" Kay commented.

(Yeah that looks insane)

"Join the club." Chas remarked dryly, he'd been in Kay's position, saying those exact same words many, many times before and knew exactly how she felt. He couldn't stop John from doing certain things, delay him yes. But stop him? No, that just wasn't something one could do, except in very, very rare occasions. And even then it was more of him changing John's pans so they weren't quite as stupid or dangerous. Dan, Rinaa and Jay, having discovered common ground were enthusiastically discussing free climbing, bouldering and climbing walls in fast paced Attili. They were showing no sign of stopping this discussion any time in the near future, so Elliott eat the rest of his sub and leaned back against the glass.

"So remind me, what's the plan travel wise from here?" He asked, directing the question at both Cal and Cliff, his soon to be sister in law (a thought that was still mind boggling to him). "Teleport from here to the gate near my home system. From there we pick up another craft hopefully one with sea landing capabilities. If not, I'm driving a speedboat with all of you guys in it at crazy fast speeds." She paused, a sudden thought entering her mind. "Nobody here gets sea sick do they? Cos my home planet is literally water and some rocky bits." "I don't, thankfully." "I don't either." "I didn't when I lived on Attil and I didn't when I lived on Earth, so I'll assume I still don't." "Don't get sea sick." "Same here."

Kay nodded at Chas, glad that someone knew where she was coming from and understood it. She knew deep down that falling off a cliff wouldn't technically kill Fia, and that yes she would die, but would come back after a short amount of time. Yet she never ever wanted to see her daughter go through all that as she knew how much it hurt feeling your whole body burn up to reform itself and bring itself back to the land of living. "At least one of you has sense in that respect" she smirked slightly, aiming it at Chas.

Whilst three of the others got into a deep conversation in Attili, she kept up the talking with everyone else, finding that when Elliott brought it up, she was curious where they went to from this current location to get to Cliff's home planet. So when Cliff explained it all, she listened to it intently, before like the others confirmed she didn't get sea sickness. "Nope, don't get it either" she said. "Wouldn't have a clue if I do or not but if assume not" Fia commented, as she had never once had the chance to figure that out at all.

"Let's hope you don't, as one, it's an absaloute bitch to deal with, espescially first time around and two, with more severe cases the smell of seawater is enough to create low grade nausea and you're going to be on my home planet for several days and I have no idea how much dromamine we have lying around to help combat that." Cliff replied, her knowledge of seasickness coming partially from being a doctor and partially from growing up on a water world." Cal nodded at that statement as the final sandwich wrappers were binned. "I say we get moving then, if that's okay with everybody else?" Cal asked, but it wasn't really a question, she was already pushing off against the wall as the others got out of their seats and grabbed the luggage.

The lift took them back down to the main body of the station. The station they were on was connected to various other space gates by means of long distance teleportation pads. The one servicing Cliff's home system today was only a ten minute walk away. The teleport pads were all located around the central core. They were cylinders about two metres high and three metres in diameter, made of metal. Travelers stepped in, the doors shut, an electrical whirring noise was heard, and when the door reopened again, there was nobody inside. The teleport pads came in pairs, one for travelling to the area and one for travelling from the area to the station.

Cal turned to face them all. "Sorry about this, but you are going to get another lecture of sfatey and how this whole teleporting thing works. Referring to it as a teleport pad is kind of misleading, it's actually a cylindrical shape. As a traveller all you do is get in, keep a hold of all your baggage, stay perfectly still and watch for the light change. When it goes green take a breath and hold it in. There be a flash, like a magnesium flare and then you'll be there. Given the numbers, it's best if we do it in two groups."

Fia nodded taking on board what Cliff was saying. She didn't think she would have any problems with it, so she kept that positive thinking going. "got it" she simply said back. As for getting moving, both her and Kay with everyone else nodded their agreement on being good to go and making tracks to continue their journey. They both walked everyone I to the loft again, then toward the teleport pad. Both girls feeling so much better for that brief stop to eat.

They both watched on as they saw the teleport pads working and people going in, doors opening and they were gone. Both were impressed by the technology involved to achieve such a thing, and Fia inside was excited to use it to get where they needed to go. When Cal spoke up about the instructions and rules of using such a thing, they both listened carefully, especially making note of when to take the deep breath and holding it. "Sounds easy enough to remember, so...how's the two groups going to be decided?" Kay replied.

Cal thought on it, but it was Cliff who made a suggestion first. "I'd say we keep it simple. There two groups of two and three groups of three within our whole gang, so how about, the two of us" she gestured at herself and Cal "go with the three of you." She gestured at John, Fia and Kay. "Which leaves the me, Jay, Rinaa, Chas and Dan as the other group." Cliff nodded, tucking a loose bit of hair behind her hearing aid. Cliff nodded. "Exactly, and it means that both groups have people who speak the language, have been through teleport gates before and know the area we are teleporting too." "That sounds like a plan, and a good one at that."

Thankfully their gate didn't have a large queue in front of it like some of the others did. It was obvious which gates led to important places (by the sheer number of people in suits and formal attire passing through them) and which gates led to tourist destinations (diverse groups of all ages, wearing tacky holiday gear with too much baggage for their own good). Dan, Elliott, Jay, Rinaa and Chas went through first, stepping forwards into the pod, which really just looked like a giant metal cannister. The door sealed with a hiss, there was a him and electrical crackling as the machine powered up. It fell silent again, and the doors opened a few second later. The staff member gestured them forwards, and Cal and Cliff stepped in first, turning to face the door. They were holding their bags in their free hands, standing straight backed, feet planted firmly. A military position. John looked at the teleport pod as he made his way in. "Beam me up Scottie." He smirked as he entered.

The plan seemed like a good idea to Kay, as well as making sense when Cliff explained the reasonings for the groupings. She stepped forward with her group as they went up the queue. She watched as Elliott's group went first, seeing how it all worked first hand, mentally going through all the steps.

She stepped inside when their group were signalled to, following Cal, Cliff and John in, and Fia following behind her. She stood still and up straight (or at least as best as one could with another person inside them), and did as she told when she had to. She rolled her eyes at John's star trek comment, "really?" She commented, smirking. "Such a nerd" she remarked. Fia just rolled her eyes at the both of them, "parents.." she fake scoffed

"It's either that or make some kind of dark Altered Carbon joke that I haven't quite figured out yet. So it's Star Trek until then." John hadn't watched a lot of Star Trek if he was being brutally honest, but he, like pretty much everybody else knew the reference 'beam me up Scottie' and it felt appropriate." He copied Cal and Cliff, keeping a firm hold of his bags and making sure not to touch anybody else, there was enough space in the pod for that to work. The doors sealed, locking them in, and the light strip on the floor muted as the power surged to the pod. He could feel the air crackle around them and a bolt of white light seemed to jump across his eyes. When it cleared they were in the same positions, in a pod of the same dimensions, but this one had a more blue tinge to the metal.

The doors opened, greeting them with a view of another station, similar in design to the last one, with various people coming an going through gates. It wasn't as busy as the station they were just on, not as popular a destination. The other five were waiting, shifting backpacks and bags around to more comfortable positions on their backs. "You survived I see." Elliott smirked. "Well obviously." John smirked as they walked out of the pod. "And here's something I want to know. If the League have a bloody teleport pod like this one, and we have somebody who clearly knows how to operate one, why the hell didn't we not just teleport straight to Attil instead of enduring that very awkward space flight?"

She just rolled her eyes but smirked at his reply whilst Fia just let them get on with it, refraining from making some kind of jab about how asking if Cal and Cliff know if any adults wished to adopt her, as John and Kay seemed to be more like kids than adults right now. Doing as the two women did, both Kay and Fia stood up straight, kept firm grip of their stuff and inhaled when it was time to do so.

When he doors reopened and they saw the rest of their group on the outside, both girls walked out, smirking at Elliott making the comment he did, only for John to be sassy back at him. Kay realised what Chas said, was a very valid point and she didn't even think of it until he mentioned it. "Very good point, why didn't we?" She added, agreeing with Chas' thought process. "Not that it's necessarily a big deal but I am curious" she added. Fia stayed out of it as she wasn't there for that journey, so she just readjusted the dress bags from one hand to the other, as the hangers were once again digging into her fingers.

The point resonated with them all, now that Chas pointed it out, there really had been no need for the trip that consisted of Jay being closed off, Rinaa showing up, being mysterious and infuriating and then nearly dying on them. It wasn't the finest trip they'd ever taken and awkward was an understatement. It had been excruciating at times. "That's actually a good point, I didn't give it much thought as I knew I'd be shipped out, less of an escape risk that way." "And I was given the ultra vague instructions of make sure that you don't die in the process of getting there." Jay shrugged, but she was also secretly eager to hear and answer. "Errrrr." John started to speak and realised he actually couldn't finish the sentence, now that Chas had pointed it out, it was all so bloody obvious us that, once again, he'd charged into the whole thing without even giving a single thought to proper planning.

"It's probably to do with the fact that I was too uttterly out of me scone to actually do 'logical thinking' and 'proper planning'." He admitted. "So it was one of those typical John Constantine charge in at the problem and just see what happens and how many people I can piss off in the process kinda plans?" Elliott asked, knowing full well it was. "Yeah, but I didn't hear anybody else giving any other suggestions at the time." "It's not like you asked for any other plans." Jay shrugged. "And it provided a more convenient way for me to actually get into the group as opposed to just showing up on the Attili end of things."

Kay and Fia looked at both Elliott and Jay when they have their answers which were completely valid, then came John and struggling to find an answer. Fia had bite her tongue and lip to stop herself sniggering. Then he managed to come up with some kind of answer which was , as Elliott said, a typical John Constantine move. "And I'm staying completely out of this." Kay smirked. "Either way it doesn't really matter now and hindsight is a wonderful thing...as they say" Fia commented.

"That it is Fia..that it is" Kay remarked back, feeling she was echoing her own thoughts. "anyway, shall we continue this journey I stead of standing around like loons?" Kay suggested, thinking that they weren't going to get anywhere just by standing still discussing what could have been done instead of doing what CAN be done.

John knew he was never going to live this down, espescially at some big family gathering, or in the future when either teenager was being told the story of how they first met Cliff and Cal. Fia's words had captured the situation perfectly. Hindsight really was a wonderful thing when it came to his life. John had two coping mechanisms for his mistakes- one, deny that they had ever happened and repress them completly, drowning in guilt and self loathing or two, make a total piss take out of them. The later being the option he used for smaller fuck ups like this one. "Moving somewhere sounds like a good thing, we're basically blocking up most of the corridor with our standing around."

At that remark they moved away, walking away from the teleportation hub of the station. Passing by a window revealed a view out to a completly different star line, with stars in constellations that could never be seen from Earth. Just like the other gate, the station was tethered to a dyson sphere for power. Cliff lead the way, this was the gate she was most familiar with after all. She'd made arrangements for a ship just after calling her parents, not wanting to have to contend with the seemingly endless negotiations and haggling that came with trying to hire anything. If you looked vaguely like a tourist there was guaranteed price hikes.

She collected the keys from the depot and led the others round and along one of the arms of the station. Through the airlock door various small crafts could be seen neatly hooked up to the station arm. Their ship wasn't the most beautiful, or the most sleek or the most elegant. It's outwards appearance was rough, and slightly boxy. But looking past that it had an excellent heat shield as well as the ability to land on both water and land, and could survive underwater for a couple of hours without sustaining any major damage. "This is us.... It's basic yes. But it's not like we have a long trip anyway." Cliff swiped them into the airlock, which lead into the ships airlock and from there they entered the main hold. It was the sort of equivilant of a car or caravan- designed for travelling, eating and maybe some sleeping in, but beyond that it didn't really have very many other functions.

Both Kay and Fia knew well that no one would let him live this one down, and knew deep down he knew it as well. Kay nodded in a firm confident manner when Chas agreed with her that they really should move out of the way of everyone else and continue moving forward. So when everyone was ready to start moving, herself and Fia walked with everyone towards where Cliff was leading them all. As they passed the window, Fia looked out at it and expertly took a photo on her phone whilst walking and not bumping into anyone in the process.

Getting to the airlock for their ship, both girls looked at it and saw how different it was to the others but the looks didnt phase either of them. They just cared about it being able to take them to Cliff's planet and land without problems. Which they trusted Cliff's judgement on the fact it would. Boarding it and looking around, both of them thought it had some kind of weird charm to it, despite its simplicity and boxy exterior. "Maybe basic buts there's a weird charm to it like an earth caravan or something has" Kay commented.

It did not escape John and Chas' attention that this ship was a step down from what they had been travelling in before. They didn't need to be spaceship experts to see that this ship was considerably more bare bones. It was also a rental, the outside heat shield had been regularly serviced and proper checks were done to make sure it was space and water worthy. Rinaa looked around the ship, already beginning the process of stowing and strapping her baggage away. She nodded at Kay's words finding them surprisingly fitting. "That's essentially what this is, it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, or spacious, but it'll get us there in one piece."

"Plus it can double as a decent boat, a pretty good submarine for a couple of hours and do sea landings, so I'd take that over aesthetics any day."
Cliff commented as she made her way up the ladder to the upper deck where the seating was. The ship had three main rooms, excluding the airlock there was the hold, the combined flight deck and seating and the engine room. Just like the last ship they were in there was various handholds on the walls and a combination of straps and velcro to keep things strapped down. Rinaa and Elliott both made a point of strapping both guitars firmly away from all the other luggage before descending upwards.

The cockpit had a toughened glass front allowing for the pilots to see outwards. The current view showed the other small craft secured to the station arm. There twelve seats (two pilot and ten passenger), spread out in such a way that all passengers would have a decent view out the main windows. Cal took the pilot seat, while Cliff took the copilot one. It was easier for Cal to deal with gaining clearance and a launch slot and once they were safely away the station, Cliff would take over the main pilot. John looked at the layout of the cockpit and smirked, it was a very familiar set up. 'This is very Waverider' he thought to himself. He'd never time travelled on the Legends ship, but he'd done some light consulting (against his will) on it, which mainly consisted of him pissing everybody off.

(Because the Waverider has an awesome cockpit

Kay listened to what Rinaa replied to her with, as well as Cliff's little additional information. "Sometimes that's the way it should be. Functionality over looks for sure" she agreed, as Cliff climbed up to the next floor. She noted Elliott and Rinaa stowing everything that didn't need to be up with them, and even Fia stowed her bag securely as she couldn't resist bringing her violin with her. She didn't need it with her but she brought it anyway. Fia then took Kay's bag off her back for her and stowed it, "thanks kiddo" Kay said, gaining a simple nod from Fia.

Both of them then climbed their way up to the cockpit as everyone else did, and looked around finding it a really cool layout compared to what they had witnessed before in previous ships. My noticed John's smirk which recognises as him finding something familiar in what he was seeing. "You've got that look again John" Kay remarked with a smile, knowing each of his various smirks by now, from his smug ones to his 'this is all familiar' ones.

Elliott and Chas recognised the look too, but couldn't think of how he'd recognise such a cockpit. "What's so familiar about this?" Elliott asked gesturing at the cockpit, while John continued smirking. "Either of you remember the Lance girl?" "Which one? There's two if I remember correctly." "I mean Sara, not Dinah" "Blond, extremely terrifying in a 'I'm a trained killer and I know it way', very bisexual, her father is a cop, comes from Starling City, presumed dead for years after the Gambit crash, totally knows how to best the shit out of somebody, then she actually died and you got roped in to drag her soul back out of hell? That Sara?" Chas asked, listing out a pretty impressive list of details, considering he'd never met her in person.

John nodded with a smirk. "Yes that Sara. Anyway she and a bunch of other hero-vigilante types and a few villians and metals ended up forming a crew together. And through some kind of crazy circumstances involving a, I quote 'skinny Brit in a trenchcoat', they managed to get their hands on a time ship- The Waverider they call it. They basically spend their time gallivanting through the time stream trying to fix stuff, occasionally succeeding, but usually massively screwing up. Call themselves 'The Legends' or something equally stupid. The cockpit looks almost exactly like this one. And I only know cos I got roped in against my will do some consulting duties for them."
