"No, he doesn't." said James after taking a moment to recall what he said. "He drives me up the wall. When have we ever got along?" He drew out his wand, summoned Frey and Pond, then began casting protective charms on them and himself.
"Whenever it really matters. Like planning an attack for battle and he only drove you up a wall is because he...well...he has his reasons. Good ones that I'm not in position to say." Renee answered.
"So...yea, he does." She grinned, watching her brother cast the protective spells on his other summons.
James snorted. He still looked unconvinced. "The day he becomes my brother-in-law is the day I'm going to wear a dress and dance the Suavamente with Chenglei." he chuckled. Like that's going to happen. "Anyway, I'm off." he picked up a stick and used it like a chopstick to pin his hair in a bun in place.
"Seth-it welcome!" Ricket said cheerfully and went back to fetch a third slice of bread as he saw that Sen was waking up due to the somewhat unconventional urging of Seth. When he waddled back over to the twins with it, he looked a little confused, but he handed the bread again to Seth, sniffing the air a moment, it was how he was telling the two apart, they may be twins but they still had vaguely different smells. After Seth took this slice, he went about putting out a dish of jerky beside the one with dates.
Ricket laughed to Sen's question as he called himself and Minnie short, "big wormie fall hard! Little us not matter, make lots of stabby stab and big booms!" he was trying to say that the fact that they were short didn't matter because they made good attacks. He then went on to assist Minnie in telling exactly what happened with his own amusing spin on the details, such as a description of chasing the worm in the dark tunnel it made when it tried to escape and how he jumped and flipped around as he dodged the falling rocks. He answered their questions on where they were and how to get to the desert, in the end thinking that maybe it was just best for him to show them out. He still didn't know about this 'Dollar-an,' but he was happy to help anyway.
She accepted the food the cat-like creature gave her, thanking him again before eating it. She snorted in amusement and thought maybe she should get something that smells too.
Then she thought 'Nah. I like poking him.'
"...I got hit by a rock and it broke on my back." Minnie explained with Ricket, now remembering about the bruise on her back as she flinched a bit. That wasn't fun.
The twins were wholeheartedly happy to have a guide out of the caverns and so with that they prepared for the journey ahead. The trail out of the cavern-like cliffs was going to take three days. They may have to start hunting soon just to make it to the nearest village out in the Sonoran Desert that was about four days away from now assuming nothing goes wrong.
Many warbands of the black dragon army were patrolling the desert, not to mention bandits, raiders, and other monsters. If they can get to the village, they can probably find work --- or steal so that they can buy some camels to make their journey easier, because after the nearest village, their next stop was going to be about a week away because of all the roundabout paths they were going to have to take to avoid hostile lands.
Right now Ricket knew there were two ways to go about this: Take the safe route to the nearest village that will take four days, or take the bandit road which was a shortcut that would take them only two days assuming nothing goes wrong.
Perhaps taking the two-day route was better? For all they knew the nearest village may not be there anymore and saving as much food and water as they can would be a good idea? Besides, they've faced greater dangers than bandits --- phsssaw, what could go wrong that they can't handle?
Ricket made sure that they each had a pack of necessities before they left his little hidey hole, he also suggested they get cleaned up and offered them the largest clothes he had. He had a lot of random stuff like that, typically all of it had been stolen, why would he buy clothes that were too big for him? He drew a rough drawing in the sand to emulate where they were going and what they had to get through, describing in his odd little speak the things they had to look out for during their trip.
Ricket discussed the two different routes with his new friends, telling them the pros and cons of each and taking the information that they gave him about the Black Dragon's Army as well as what he already knew, he decided it would probably be better to take the two-day route instead. He didn't like it because it would be dangerous, but it would be slightly less dangerous than them running out of food and water after the four-day trek.
So with these things in mind, Ricket set out to lead the group with a cheerful disposition like it was just a stroll in the park.
1. x3 Food || Dates, beef jerky, a canteen of water.
2. x1 Desert cloak || +1 Sneak in sandy or red rock terrain. Bonus doesn't stack.
3. x1 Treasure || Sells for 20G. Uhhh, these kind of belong to Ricket, so you gotta' ask his permission --- or steal it.
The first day was as amiable as it could be in the desert. Now that the twins were refreshed with food and drink, they tied up the baggy parts of the clothes Ricket gave them and scrambled up all over the cliff rocks, leaping over gaps and daring each other to do riskier stunts until they were tired. Probably a bad idea as it resulted in them drinking too much of their rationed water, but they felt confident that they were going to encounter some bandits that they can steal from, and on the second day the group did, although not they way they thought.
Terrified cries echoed in the distance together with the sound of battle. There was a caravan trapped in the cliffs surrounded by a large group of brigands. The caravans were curled up into a circle with the women and children in the center, some shooting bows while the men battled the brigands outside, but they were losing. The brigands were on horses and they were sweeping up the field in devastating cavalry charges slashing with wicked sabers.
Minnie packed up for the journey ahead, ready and armed. With Ricket explaining which route they will be taking, the little gunner didn't care much of which route as long they can get to somewhere that's not a sand dune. So she followed their new little guide. She checked from time to time if Luthein was okay or at least still on her finger and then she continued with watching out for any 'Band of its'.
Of course, she scowled a bit when the twins were being reckless with their water rations, shaking her head in disapproval. As luck would have it, the twins were right about finding bandits: Up ahead was a battle going on and Minnie looked over to where the twins and Ricket are with a small frown.
"...we're helping them or not?" Minnie asked, her gun unfolded and ready to use.
Minnie: 0G

3. x2 Healing Salves || Start next battle with maximum health.
Ricket had watched the boys as they jumped on the cliffs and voiced his opinion on the matter, warning against using up so much of their water, they were doing exactly what he had wanted to avoid in hopes of preserving their supplies until the village but the boys were gambling on fate. He inevitably just ended up walking alongside Minnie and shaking his head in much the same way.
Ricket's brow wrinkled in worry as they came across the ongoing battle, turning to the other three as they neared it. This was not the sort of thing that Ricket was used to. It was always just Ricket and he would more likely just run than try to single-handedly save a caravan. But after the twins' lack of attention to their rations, he saw the benefit of trying to help, but he wasn't going to charge in, instead looking to the other three for a decision since they could likely do more than he, "band of its... help fight?"
"Help of course!" said the twins in unison, leaping over the rocky ridge. Perhaps it was their cockiness and underestimation of the enemy, but their attack didn't go the way they planned.
Sen tossed out a thick Frisbee-like disk on to the sand that clicked and clanked as hidden gears mechanically shape-shifted and popped up into a clockwork turret; Seth rushed, leaping and wall-running from rock to rock, throwing-knives in hand, confident of his ability to dodge the arrows of these low class criminals.
"Get 'em, turret!" pointed Sen at the charging cavalry.
Ratatatatata!
The clockwork turret released a hail of explosive ammunition on the cavalry that was taken by surprise. Immediately, the horse archers fired at Sen, their arrows striking true as their sister's and lodged into the ammunition feed of his clockwork turret.
Boom
It malfunctioned and an explosive round went off, knocking the turret backwards as its legs couldn't get a secure grip on the sands, and fell on Sen who was hiding behind it.
Seth engaged the horsemen, but they skillfully maneuvered their horses to evade his thrown knives and one of them caught his arm with a deep slash. The twin was knocked on to the ground by the force of the charge and trampled. Nope, fighting head on still did not work for him and he felt like a huge dumb-dumb.
"Eeeeee...." was Ricket's response as he watched the twins charge in. He gave a brief glance to Minnie, shrugged, and bounded in after them. He bounced along the rocks to try and flank the brigands and jump on one of the archers with his Stabby Stab.
Minnie cursed quietly as once again the twins went in charging without a plan first. The little gunner looked at Ricket Too before hatching a plan if her own.
She hid behind the rocks, aimed her gun and fired with her frozen bullets at the weakened horsemen. She hid behind the rocks and skulked around to shoot at the archers too.
Minnie's shots froze the remaining cavalry, quite sight to the caravan folks who probably had never seen ice like this before; Ricket's sudden attack panicked the archers and their horses, causing them to yell out in desert speech that they were being ambushed by the cat people and began to retreat.
Meanwhile, the leader of the brigands, a cavalry warrior Ricket and the desert people call mamluke' in their tongue, destroyed Sen's clockwork turret and trampled the twin under his heavy war horse.
Seth dashed to pull his unconscious brother out, fending off charge after charge of the mamluke, but unable to land a blow as he stood his ground protecting Sen.
Grinning like a mad person, Minnie took aim again, firing with her light blast bullet to blind the mamluke first.
After Ricket attacks him, the little gunner made sure to aim at the mamluke again and shot his horse with her frozen bullets. She wanted the horse to stop harming the twins already.
Ricket chased after the fleeing archers for a moment before muttering something about them being slippery desert snakes and skittering back towards the others. He ran and leaped up on Mamluke's back with the intention of landing another hit with his little daggers, this time drawing out his second blade once he was on the brigand's back.
The horse's hooves froze, and the abrupt stop in momentum tripped it and unseated both the mamluke and Ricket. They crashed into the sand, the horse whinnying in panic; Seth threw his knives, but the brigand rolled with his fall and dashed behind the cover of the rocks. He sounded angry as he yelled at his retreating comrades in desert speak to come back and fight.
His desperation was making him wilder and more dangerous as he engaged Ricket in swordplay, sweeping down with his saber to cut down the desert cat, but he was too small and nimble.
Ricket let out a yowl as they went flying from Mamluke's horse and did his best to cling to the back of the brigand, rolling on his own once they hit the ground and once again attempting to climb on Mamluke's back to try and stick him again as he dodged around the attacks.
With a loud roar, the brigand grabbed Ricket and flung him away like a ragdoll, knocking him out cold against the rocks, before the man fell down to his knees from Minnie's shot and Seth's knives that disarmed his saber. He lay on the ground writing in pain, yet unable to walk.
The women from the caravan immediately rushed to the aid of the twins and Ricket, talking in a foreign language but unmistakably gesturing at the others to come and help.
The bandit was in Minnie's hands. She could set him free on his horse, bargain for something in exchange for his life, hand him over to the caravan folk who'd probably kill him slow for all the men he and his brigands killed, or she could end him quick and clean.
Minnie came out of the rocks that she hid behind, watching the caravan women helping her companions with wary eyes. Then she payed attention to the Brigand she shot at, grabbing his dirtied shirt and dragged him away from everyone. The little gunner stayed quiet, hearing the man's curses at her and she tossed him against a rock, not caring if he was hurt.
Her teal blue eyes were cold and unmerciful as she pressed her gun on his head. He sat there frozen, unable to believe what was about to happen. "I'm sorry...but I cannot have you chasing us. Ever. Again." was her grave response.
The twins and Ricket, if they were awake, would hear an ominous gunshot echoing from the south. It stayed silent for a couple more minutes and Minnie's figure slink out of the shadows, looking like she went through something heavy and sat next to Sen. The little gunner let the caravan women take care of her too.
Once that was done and over with, Minnie's icy eyes glared at the reckless twins and scolded them quietly. "...I don't think Big Sis Ren and Big Bro Jams would be happy to know their little brothers died for jumping in a fight without thinking first. Especially when Big Sis Ren trusts you two to be well." She pulled up the blanket the women gave her to stay warm and over her head, curling up into a ball; an attempt to hide her sad frown from the silly twins.
"...Please don't make me do that...ever." Minnie really didn't want them to die for being stupid. Nor did she want to be the bearer of bad news to the older Pendragons.

Ricket didn't even have a chance to make a sound before he hit the rocks, his once wide eyes rolling and closing as he slumped against the stones and wasn't aware of what was going on around him for some time.

Someone picked Ricket up and parted his fur gently, looking for wounds. Then he was bandaged up and laid on a pile of thick blankets near a fire. Voices could be heard speaking, three familiar.
The twins, who both suffered broken bones fidgeted guiltily as they lay stiffly on some blankets on the sand. "Yeah . . . Just thought . . . they weren't that experienced." muttered Seth.
"My precious turret," groaned Sen, "It's going to be a while until I can repair it back into shape. Should've taken the sandy terrain into consideration. It would have been better if I assembled it on the rocks."
"Yeah, though it was a little bit fun getting up in their face like, 'what's up boy?' then boom." said Seth.
"We got our buttocks handed to us. Desert one, twins zero." sighed Sen. "We're going to have to emulate our brother dear and come up with a strategy next time."
"We should come up with one today. He always does it beforehand."
"You received training in soldiery, so how what were the tactics they taught you?"
"Um . . . I didn't exactly pay attention during the lectures, I was more on the physical side of training. Erm, Minnie? Could you help us think of some battle plan?" asked Seth from where he lay.
The twins couldn't get over the language barrier, but it was clear with some gestures that the caravan folks wanted the three to stay with them and pushed into their arms gifts for helping. Some men had buried the bodies of their fallen, while some were distributing the spoils of battle which included: bows, sabers, knives, armor, survival equipment, food, and the surviving horses of the brigands that hadn't fled the scene.
They made camp far from the site of battle, travelling a few miles back to the direction Minnie, Ricket, and the twins came from, and set up a defensive position in a good place. They were in the center of the caravans, curled up again while the men stood guard at the edges. Some of the desert people kept offering Minnie and the twins food and had placed a bowl of spicy desert grub beside Ricket.
The women taught the twins and Minnie what the food were called: there was kebab (marinated lamb, skewered then grilled over a fire), manti (fried dumplings made of spicy ground lamb), Uzbek plov (rice simmered in a rich stew of meat and vegetables), and water.
Eventually Ricket woke up, his furry lips parting to expose his rows of pointy teeth as he grimaced and rubbed his back with a paw, "same lookings crazy," he muttered with a pained laugh before collecting the bowl of food that had been laid out for him and thanking the desert people as he rolled over and ate slowly.
