Yeah, I won't be able to do this. I have a lot on my plate right now. If you ever start a dnd game again let me know.

Sorry to hear that, Midrick Midrick . Good luck in your future gaming endeavors.

Sara Sidereal Sara Sidereal , your characters name is "Slay-the-Dragons"? Isn't that the same as "Slay-The Grandfathers" for her since she's a Dragonborn?

Argonian names are pretty fun, so feel free to go with that if you want.

Since she's an Oath of Ancients Paladin, maybe something to the effect of "Strides-in-Light", with "Strides" being a handy nickname?

Sorry guys. Had a few RL things pop up.

Really sorry to hear that. I totally understand and I'll definitely keep you in mind for future games.

We haven't heard anything from TyranntX TyranntX , either. I'm going to assume it's a similar response.

JayTee JayTee , Sara Sidereal Sara Sidereal , SilverSuzi SilverSuzi , I'm going to see if we can pull in at least one more from the interest check. We had a few others offer to play if a spot opened up.

Regardless, I'm going to get the first post going this evening so we can get this thing started and play.

Howdy folks, I just got alerted by Wlf that you have an opening. Unfortunately the last time I played D&D we used 3.5 edition, so 5th is completely new to me. I'm considering creating a tiefling lore bard, assuming you all agree that would be a good fit. Any help building the character would be appreciated.

Lore Bard would be a solid addition to the group. What do you need help with when building the character?

Great, thanks. I want the bard to play a support role, a buffer/healer. In terms of combat I plan to mostly just stay back and shoot a crossbow. Here's how I think I'll distribute my stats - my racial bonuses aren't applied yet.

Str: 8
Dex: 14
Con: 13
Int: 12
Wis: 10
Cha: 15

Where should I go from here?

Looks good to me. After that you just have to make a note of your race/class features and pick your spells and you should be all set.

It should say so on the Bards level progression chart. Different classes advance in different ways, fighters get a bunch of them for example, but other classes not so much. I think caster classes get the fewest.

Glad to have you aboard. I should be able to check you sheet this afternoon. Thanks for playing.

Whoops! I don’t know why I thought you were already finished. I was super impressed since you said you’ve never made a 5e character. Take your time.

Any suggestions on what skills I should take? I get three of my choice starting out, and then another three for being a lore bard. I already have Insight and Persuasion from my Courtier background.

Perception is always good, real nice being able to notice things. Same with Investigation, although that's used much less frequently.

Knowledge skills are useful as well, because it's nice to be able to just pull exposition out of the GM thin air whenever you need it.

Performance also might be good as well, just cause, you know, Bard.

WlfSamurai WlfSamurai My character isn't finished but I don't have too much to complete. A few questions: How much starting gold do we get? Do you want a character backstory? For my bard I imagine her as a former herald to a recently ruined lord, and now she's hunting for work. I could go on but I'd likely require some setting information.

SilverSuzi SilverSuzi You still running towards flying death with us? I think once Bone2pick's sheet gets checked, we'll be all set with our party. Everyone else seems to have vanished.

Oh, I'm still here, but just realized I didn't have the main thread on my watch list! Didn't know it had started already, oops!

so I was thinkin', every time a GM asks for a check in a play by post, that's basically three posts - one to ask for the check, one for the player to post their roll, one for the results. so here are a bunch of rolls in advance, that'll basically skip two posts every time and eliminate a ton of waiting

since every check in 5th is d20 +ability +prof (if proficient), I'll just do rolls by ability score; when a roll gets used, I'll strike it out and post a new one up

I like this idea, and I've seen it used before, but I have never done it myself. So, you have these rolls and I just pull from them when a check is needed?
