Callum nodded slowly with a smile. "I figured it was time. Not to mention I found the play group that had done it originally when I was a boy."

"Luck," Callum said. "They were performing a different play close by and they saw my notice for the request of a play group."

"You requested this?" Emmalia asked in awe. Being a warlord, he could surely do that, but it was still very thoughtful that he had done it at all.

"Of course I did! It'd be sacrelige if I didn't take you to see it at least once." Callum gave Emmalia's hand a gentle squeeze and a beaming smile.

Callum grinned at the kiss, and lead Emmalia inside to their seats. The play soon started, and Callum enjoyed the entirety of it while holding hands with Emmalia.

A week later, Em and Cal were back in their castle, returning to their daily routines after a nice break. However, almost immediately when they returned, they received news of a possible vampire attack in the nearest village to their castle.

Callum had went to his office to look over what they had missed over the week, but once they got word of the attack, he instantly equipped his armor and weapons, and went out with Emmalia.

Em set up shop in the inn, getting the information needed from the bar keep, as well as a few tips about the terrain. It wouldnt be easy because the terrain, got rather rocky in the forests, which could give a height advantage to an adversary.

Callum tried his best to remain with Emmalia as they set up, preparing his weapon by sharpening it on a portable grindstone. He ensured all his armor was equipped properly, and prayed this was all an alarm.

Soon they were on the trail. They got toward the rocky area, where large boulders spiked out of the ground. They hoped to find the vampire before night fell. Finally, they did, except it wasn't as they expected, with him hiding in a cave out of the light, but rather relaxing in the shade of a tree. Emmalia took out her weapons as they approached. She called, "Give us your name and state your business here, or we will attack." Just in case he wasn't a vampire at all, it would be best to not kill him. The man turned to face them and grinned, which was visible at a distance. After waiting for a few moments, it became clear he wasn't going to reveal anything, so she repeated her warning. When all she got in return was silence, she approached in a fighting stance.

After that, everything happened almost too quickly for a normal human to process. He ran at her and lunged, and she stepped aside and pushed him away before returning the attack. As they fought, they each would dodge with inhuman speed, and the fight was progressively moving away from Callum.

Another vampire got between Em and Cal, and prevented him from following the fight. Any time Callum would attack, the vampire would just dodge, but never attack, and never let Callum get closer to the fight.

Callum could barely keep up with the fighting. He wished to help, but due to the vampire stopping him, he could do little more than watch. He kept trying to surprise the vampire in various ways, but each proved futile against his reflexes. "Just hang on Em!" He called, hoping to eventually have one of his swings hit the vampire.

The vampire in front of Callum said, "Worry not, M'Lord, she won't die, I promise."

Indeed, though the fight was intense, Adira soon succeeded in pinning the vampire on the ground and raising her sword to behead him. He held up his hands and said, "I cede, M'Lady, you are the victor."

Emmalia hesitated and said, "You murdered people, therefore, I have full rights to execute you."

The vampire said, "I was ordered to do so by my Lord, M'Lady. To get you to come out and fight me."

Em shook her head, and held her blade close to the vampire's neck. "Why?"

The vampire smirked. "Well, to see if you were a good fighter despite being on animal blood. You have bested me, which is what our Lord sought to know."

The other vampire held his hands up and stepped away from Callum. "M'Lady, we now promise you, there will be no more death in this village. Just let my compatriot go."

Emmalia glanced at Cal for a moment, then slowly said, "Your Lord should not kill people at random. He must repay the family of your victims, understand? If not, we will hunt you down for payment."

The vampires both agreed, and she hesitantly released the one she had fought with.

Callum kept his sword in his hand, holding it out to the vampires as he regrouped with Emmalia. "Why did they need to know how strong you are?" He whispered to her.

"Not certain, but I don't like being sized up," Em whispered.

The vampires whispered between themselves, then the one who blocked Callum turned to Emmalia and bowed. "M'Lady, we would like to invite you to join our dark family. Our Lord would be most pleased."

Emmalia shook her head. "Absolutely not. I do not drink blood, much less kill for food, and I serve no Lord, only King Cassian. Now, I ask you to leave this area immediately."

The vampires frowned and nodded, then turned away to walk toward their strange home, wherever it was.

Callum stayed by Emmalia's said and kept eyes on the vampires as they left. "They're not taking you from me." He told her quietly. "Quickly, let's get back to the castle."

Emmalia went to their room that night more then mildly concerned. "See, they are not the vampiric nobility. From what I can tell, they don't even pretend to be humans. This makes them hard to predict."

"You know more about them than I do." Callum said, pacing their room back and forth. "I'm not sure any of my men can stand facing such... Complex enemies. They won't be very useful in a fight against them. Hell, I could barely keep up with them."

"Ah, yes, but I'm certain our enemies are few compared to us. And they certainly cannot stand the light of the sun. If your men are armed with silver-coated swords, that would be effective. I would suggest sun stones, but that could be turned on Camilla and I in a moment," Em said.

Callum nodded. "I'll put out the word to my guards for silver weapons." He turned to face Emmalia. "How likely is it that they'll attack us here?"

Callum closed his eyes and rubbed his temples in hopes of curing his headache. "Perhaps some rest will help us think on what to do." He wasn't sure if he'd be able to sleep, but Callum figured he might as well try to get Emmalia to.
