Fantasy Generic Fantasy RP (CLOSED)

Em took his hand and hopped down from the carriage.

At the same time, Conroy.was helping Maven out of the carriage, because she was smaller than Em and needed a bit more assustance. Maven kissed his cheek, then walked over to Em and Cal. "You think we can get an audience right away? With you and Daniel both, I think we could."

"As long as he's not currently having a council, or a woman, I don't see why he wouldn't." Callum said, giving Emmalia's hand a gentle squeeze. "No way to tell unless we ask."

As it turnes out, Cassian was doing nothing he claimed he couldn't put off for the presence of friends. He held the audience immediately and welcomed them with a smile. "Callum and Emmalia! I meant to send you a thank-you gift for your convincing the LaFarens to lend me troops, and for dealing with that mind mage. And a congratulatory present on your wedding, also! I've been busy and it slipped my mind, I'm very sorry."

"Nothing to be sorry for," Callum said dismissively with a smile. Although he knew in the grand scheme of things, Cassian was his superior, and probably only kept a friendship with Cal due to their statuses, he still felt they were friends to an extent. They got along well and had both helped each other in difficult times. "If anything we should be sorry, inviting a king would no doubt sour the small wedding we wanted." He gave Emmalia's hand a squeeze. "How has your work faired?"

"Very well. Any remnants of the coup have been removed, and peace has returned, for the most part. There is still some settling as new Lords replace a few traitors, but it is working out well." He smiled, then said to Emmalia, "Oh, my dear, one of your fights was not kind to you, was it? I can have one of my personal healers see to that burn if you would like."

Em blushed, then said, "Thank you, your Highness, but it will heal no further. it's alright, though, I'm getting used to it."

Cassian nodded. "Alright, as long as it causes no discomfort. He added to Daniel, "And you, my friend, what brings you here? And with Lord and Lady Cross, no less. I fear that does not bode well for the sake of my kingdom."

Daniel nodded. "Your Highness, the Order is becoming extremely radicalized. You can ask Lord Callum and Lady Emmalia, they know first hand."

Callum figured he didn't need to wait for Cassian to ask further with the topic to begin explaining. "Emmalia and I were taken captive on our way to Aman's castle. The Order took Emmalia away from me and tortured us both. Emmalia managed to escape and rescue me afterwards, but... After a week, they hadn't really been kind to either of us. As you can see."

Cassian seemed shocked at the news. "I see! Well, I'm very sorry for you both. Normally those zealots don't go after people without due cause but this is unacceptable. Its strange, I recently got a letter from their new leader about you two, but I ignored it. I wish I hadn't, perhaps if I had paid attention I could have prevented this. I will order them to stand down and be far more cautious with those they condemn."

"Well, it seems they think we're some sort of demonic couple spawned from hell. They more than likely won't stop attacking us, they seemed rather convinced." Callum was hoping to get the point across that the Order may need more than just a warning without outright saying it. "I fear for my wife's life, that they might try again."

Cassian nodded. "I see. This is a difficult matter. If the order stops completely, I have no doubts that we would soon be overrun with dark beings. The dark hunters can only do so much. Perhaps I can make a law that they need irrefutable proof. Maybe even permission from the area's guard commander. That would prevent any more insane kidnappings while allowing them to hunt rabid monsters. And as for the damage to you two, I'll have Lysander's head for that. He was always too zealous, that scarred bastard."

Daniel cleared his throat and said, "My Lord, Lysander is dead."

Em spoke up and said, "I believe it was me who killed him. I killed many of their ranks to save Callum."

Cassian nodded slowly. "I see. Well, no punishment for him, then. I will write up that new restriction immediately. "

"Thank you." Callum said sincerely, looking over at Emmalia. "We won't forget this. Emmalia and I are in your debt." He waited a moment before continuing. "We'll send word if we're every bothered by the Order again."

Em smiled at Callum when he looked at her, then bowed to Cassian. As they went to leave, though, he said, "Wait. I know you two are still recovering. But since I have both of you and Daniel here, may I ask a favor? If you are well enough, I need a problem dealt with. I would say it's demonic, but it lacks certain.... Characteristics."

Callum faced Cassian with a raised eyebrow. Of course they wouldn't turn down the king, but he wasn't sure how he felt about putting Emmalia back into danger so soon after their traumatic experience. "What is it you need?"

"Well, there is a, uh... Well I dont know what it is. No body does. It seems like a demon but lacks a body and a tether. It can interact with the world but then disappear. I could not explain it to you. But it has been terrorizing an old section of my city. If you could help at least figure out what it is I would be grateful."

Cum leaned in to Emmalia for a moment. "Sounds a bit like the monster we fought from another plane." He whispered. "What do you think?"

"I suppose so," she said hesitantly. "Maybe it's different though. With what he's saying, it could be a poultergeist or a banshee or anything lacking a material body - even a strange demon. I think we should help if we can."

Callum nodded before looking back to Cassian. "Wed love to help. Where should we start?" Callum held Emmalia's hand again, giving it a gentle squeeze.

"I'd say down by the river in the old quarter - some call it the temple district. Daniel, if you would assist?"

Daniel nodded immediately. "Of course, your highness. I know where that area is too."

Callum frowned a bit, looking over at Emmalia before switching his attention to Daniel. "I'm sure that's not necessary. We've performed fine on our own before, I don't want to inconvenience Daniel."

Cassian said, "I ask because of the demonic aspects of this. Also, I don't want to send you and Emmalia alone, you have clearly been through much recently. I'm certain that with all five of you, this will be dealt with in no time, with no injuries."

Callum slowly sighed. He never liked working in groups larger than three at most, especially with such... Skilled company. But, his want for Emmalia to be safe exceeded his grudge against Daniel, so he decided it was best. "We'll go as soon as we can."

"Thank you, Lord Cross, and Lady Cross. Daniel, thank you also. Your rooms will be laid for at any inn you so choose. Farewell."

Outside, the group talked about what it could be. Daniel said, "Normally a demon has to stick to a form - corporeal or not. Perhaps a demon could be possessing then I'm-possessing something? The fact that it stays in only the temple district would make sense for a demon if they're tethered."

"I'm no expert on these sort of monsters, but I'd say that sounds likely. I don't know many creatures that aren't sentient that like to stay in a specific section of a city by choice." Callum still remained by Emmalia's side, still feeling protective of her ever since the Order kidnapped them.

Emmalia added, "The fact that it changes to being incorporeal is strange. I mean, we dealt with something cast by a mage, summoned from the shadow realm, then it would go back to the shadow realm until it was summoned again. But this doesn't sound like that, he didn't say it's been mauling people to death, just that it causes trouble. Which may mean death, but not necessarily mauling. Could be some weird spirit?"

Daniel nodded slightly. "I don't know anything about spirits, really, just that they can become banshees or ghouls and such."

Em said, "No, ghouls don't have spirits or true sentience."

Daniel just said, "See? I don't know."

Roy said, "It's not a mage pulling that kind of magic you mentioned, though, I'd have felt that a mile off. That's a lot of dark magic and would certainly leave remnants."

"Maybe it's a ghost?" Callum asked, more for himself than the group. He hadn't encountered any yet that caused trouble besides the one at his castle, but there were signs it could be one. "Could've been a religious sacrifice perhaps. Might be angry and just looking to get some anger out."

"Can ghosts interact with the world?" Daniel seemed uncertain. "Demons can, but they can't just disappear with no trace. If they have no body, they have no body, if they have one, they have to at least have a different body."

Emmalia offered, "Well can't Roy set some kind of test?"

Roy shook his head. "I'd have to know what we're dealing with, at least in a broad category."
