"Nah, I'll just use this one." She went to a large, fancy chair, over which was a blanket. She draped it over herself and laid down, making herself comfortable again and looking up at Cal with wide, innocent eyes. "You know, you seem miserable doing all that work. Is it that boring?"

"Well, when compared with fighting and travelling, it can be quite dull." Callum flashed a soft smile. "It is what a warlord must do though. If I trust everything to my advisors, then would I really be a lord?"

"I suppose you're right." Em watches him work for a bit more, then settled down into the couch and fell asleep. A few hours later, a servant came to say that there were three people demanding to see Lady Emmalia and himself. He addes that none of them wore armor, but they all had weapons.

Callum was cautious enough to mull it over in his mind, considering it was an odd request. Weapons but no armor? They were either confident or stupid. Finally, his arrogance forced him to say, "Let them in." Sure, they almost certainly weren't going to try to fight him, but still. It excited him.

Em sat up, unsure what to expect.

Moments later, Daniel, Maven, and Roy arrived. Daniel smiled and said politely, "Good morning, M'Lord. Heard you got a bit roughed up?" The scars told Daniel as much, there was no guessing to it.

Em smiled, glad to see the people who had helped her when she most needed it.

Callum looked at the new visitors, somewhat distasteful. He was protective over Emmalia, and any time she was away from him, he'd do nothing but worry. Of course, these people helped Emmalia, so he wouldn't show any of his distaste, but still. He didn't trust Daniel, and he wouldn't spend more time in his company than needed. "Makes my skills even with everyone else." Callum responded simply. "What do I owe the pleasure of your presence?"

Em looked at Cal quickly - that was rather rude of him to say.

Maven quickly said, "Well I was treating Emmalia after she was shot and she ran away during the night, still injured. She had also been saying you were injured too, so we decided to come and check on both of you."

Em smiled. "That's very kind of you. We're both mostly healed, and getting better by the day."

"For that I am grateful." Callum said, putting a hand to his heart. "Nothing is worth more to me than Emmalia. Please, give a wish and I shall give you it for aiding my wife."

Maven said, "Actually, we don't need anything. In fact, we hoped to give Emmalia a gift." To Em, she said, "You spoke about cats sometimes when you were half unconscious. So Roy and I made you this." She gave Em a smokey grey crystal.

Curious, Em took it, and a wisp of smoke came out of the crystal and forms into a young grey tabby cat with green eyes. Em gasped and reached out, touching it and pulling it into her lap. "She's warm! And so soft!"

Roy smiled with a bit of pride. "She's a cross between a familiar and an illusion. She can learn, and has her own personality, but she can never get hurt or grow old. And when you don't want her around, just will her back into the crystal." Roy had avoided Em when he first met her, and had tried to make Maven avoid her too - he had feared that an ill vampire might kill his girl. But Maven had convinced him that Emmalia was safe, and a good person on top of that.

Callum, being in the line of work he was in, was somewhat skeptical about the illusion presented to Emmalia. Seems an awfully tender and expensive gift to someone who is owed nothing. "Thank you, your kindness will be spread to every lord and lady I speak to." He looked over at Emmalia and the cat, before responding, "I'd assume you're just trying to get our hearts heavy for when you ask a favor later on."

Em looked at Cal again - yet again he had been rather rude! She bit her tongue and went back to petting the new cat.

Daniel raised an eyebrow and said, "No. M'lord, its simply a gift. Especially since we know you two have been fighting monsters and such. Hell, we heard about that mind mage thing and could hardly believe it - for two days before you killed the mage, Roy could hardly even move he was so ill, thanks to that damn mage. You both have done quite a lot for the people of Trulane, and yet the Order still did what it did to you. Seemed high time someone at least tried to properly thank you."

Callum still couldn't shake the feeling they wanted something. It wasn't often he was simply gifted things. Either way, they helped Emmalia, so he would have to show gratitude. "We ask nothing in return for our service. We thank you for the gift, though. And for checking on us. It's a rare occurrence."

Daniel shrugged. "Well, when Emmalia ran, Maven was quite frantic about her health, to be honest. And it seemed like you both might need a wellness check. We've been at odds with the Order for some years now. They haven't been so violent until recently. I'm sorry for what happened to both of you."

Maven and Emmalia were sitting on the couch, talking about the cat. Very quietly, so Cal wouldn't hear, Em said, "I'm sorry, I dont know why Cal is being so rude, he normally isnt like this."

Just as quietly, Maven replied, "Don't worry about it, guys have that stupid dominance thing going on, it's ridiculous."

Callum saw the girls talking on the couch out of the corner of his eye, but figured they were going on about the cat. "I assume it might be a change in leadership as to why they became so radicalized recently?" Callum asked, stepping around his table to be standing in front of Daniel.

Daniel could tell when someone was squaring up, and he didn't bother to even change his posture. He said, "Yes, actually. I don't think he's alive anymore, though." Daniel wouldnt say it, but he was practically certain Emmalia had killed him.

"Who told you this?" Callum asked, slightly concerned. "For all we know someone even worse could take his place. We can't let that happen. The Order has soured from its purpose."

"Well, I actually know he's dead because I found his corpse. And I think that the Order will be reeling for a while - its leader is dead and so are many of its members. I was actually going to visit King Cassian and see if he couldn't put some rules or such out for the Ordee. They're useful, but zealots. Too few people want to be true dark hunters, though, so they're rather necessary."

Callum raised an eyebrow. "Cassian himself? Think he'll provide an audience? For all we know he's the one telling them to be so radical. I'd like to join you if you go though, it's been too long since I've talked with the king." He looked back at Emmalia. "I think it'd do us both good to get out of this castle for a bit."

Em nodded, then pulled the cat closer to her chest. The cat purred audibly and rubbed its head against her.

Daniel pulled out a thin leather envelope from his bag and took out a paper written by Cassian himself that told any in the Guard or the Order to leave "Daniel Kearney and any he claims as companions" alone. Daniel grinned and said, "Cassian is rather fond of me, and has his own dislike or the Order."

Callum looked at the paper for a moment. "Where can I get one of those?" He joked with a laugh. "Maybe I can ask for one while I'm there. Will you have us as your company?"

Daniel smiled slightly. He had hoped Callum would be an ally, since they had the same boss, but so far Callum had just shown Daniel coldness. This was a good turn. "Yeah. It would be good for us to have company, especially with the Order being so odd lately."

Em looked up at Callum and smiled. He was being much more polite and friendly. Also, it would be nice to travel a bit.

Callum nodded his head and traced over the scar where his finger used to be, which was becoming a nervous habit of his. "Wonderful, we'll prepare our things as soon as we can and we can be on our way."

"Alright. However, if you two want to rest a day, we can get a room at the inn and head out at dawn." Daniel was still aware that Em and Cal were injured, and didn't want to push them.

"Whenever Emmalia is ready, I am.' Callum said looking back at her. "However, if you stay you're more than welcome to take up a room here in the castle."

Em thought for a moment, then said, "We should head out at the break of day tomorrow."

Daniel nodded. "That's settled then. We can leave you two alone, and meet at the gates at dawn." A servant was called and led them to their rooms on the other side of the castle.

Alone again, Em sat back with the cat in her lap and said to Cal, "Lover, are you okay?"
