Em smiled, saying, "I love you too, Cal." The silence settled in for a few moments, then she said rather meekly, "Cal, I'm scared that if I sleep I'll have a nightmare. They've gotten bad lately."

Callum nodded his head slowly. "You have to get sleep eventually Emmalia, or you'll get exhausted and fall asleep anyway. How long have they been happening for?"

That was a hard question. If she told him. She'd be admitting that she had been keeping secrets from him. But she was also so damn tired. "Ever since the mage got in my head. I mean, I used to have them once in a while but you knew about those."

Callum frowned a bit, pulling away to look at her. "And you haven't told me? That's not good Em, that mage could've done something to you. You need to let me know about these things."

"I'll wake you if you look like you're in distress." Callum told her, more than willing to stay up the entire night for her. "Sometimes it's better to just face your fears."

"I'd never sleep again if it meant toy didn't get a nightmare tonight, love." Cal kissed her head gently. "You need your rest and I've had plenty of it. Now, sleep."

Em looked at him, then nuzzled against his neck again. "No, you need sleep.... it's not like it's your fault that I have nightmares."

"I took your burdens as my own when I married you. I can give up some sleep if it means you get some." He kept his arms around her.

Em couldn't say that she wasn't tired. In reality, she was exhausted. "Well... try to sleep some. Or else I'll just take your tiredness from you." Could she even do that?

Callum sighed and chuckled, "Alright, I'll try." He said, knowing he wouldn't. "Now come on, it's late enough already. Get some sleep."

Em nodded and pressed her head against his shoulder, forcing herself to relax. After a while, she fell asleep. During the night, she started mumbling in her sleep.

Callum paid close attention to her, but didn't want to wake her until he knew she was having a bad dream. She needed every second of sleep, and she needed it Still, he kept a close eye on her to monitor her health.

Callum looked over at her with a frown, deciding it was time to wake her up. He gently shook her shoulder and whispered, "Emmalia, it's Callum. It's time to wake up now love."

Em opened her eyes and looked up at him, then quietly said, "Is it morning?" She forgot that she didn't have to hide the nightmares from Callum anymore.

"Yeah, she said quietly and nuzzled against him, hiding her face against his chest. She felt like she was going to fall apart if he asked for any further information

Callum held her quietly, gently scratching circles onto her back. He wanted to know what had happened in her dream, and possible ways he might be able to help, but knew she wouldn't want to talk about it.

"I've been awake the entire time." Callum told her softly. "But do not worry yourself over it. You forget I barely slept at all when I was younger, two or three days I'd get a couple hours at most. I'm used to this. And it's for a good cause."

Em sighed heavily. "No, it's for a silly cause, I'm a grown woman, I can handle night terrors... I should be able to handle them...." Her voice broke and tears started running down her face.

Callum held her tight. "It's okay to cry." He said quietly, knowing sometimes it was easier to let it out than keep it in for too long.

Em started sobbing when he said that. "No it's not, I should just be able to deal with this, and I can't, I've been trying and I just feel so tired and empty and I can't handle this dreams and memories and the guilt! Now you're staying up because I can't deal with it myself!"
