Fade to Black [Inactive]

"Alright. Follow me." Merek said after finally spotting a mentor somewhat nearby. He began to maneuver around the other students easily and quickly, making his path toward the mentor. Mindful of the other two behind him, he made sure to glance back every once in a while to make sure that they had not gotten lost in the throng.

I was sitting in the seat closest to the window in the last row when the Void began moving. I froze in total fear, quite unlike myself as I stared out the window at the opposing darkness and death. This isn't possible. I thought as I reeled out of my seat running towards the isle. I ran smack into a group of new kids making their way to the door, almost taking down a boy holding his sword out like a soldier. I grabbed onto his shirt partially to steady herself and partially out of total fear. "Oh God. We have to stop this." I turned my eyes to the group, "What if it's closing in all over the place?"

Dahlia nodded and said nothing, keeping that blank look on her face. Everything is going to be fine. She silently reassured herself. She pushed past the other Altorus, keeping her eyes trained on the back of Merek's head. Her necklace was starting to glow slightly, the ghostly blue light emanating from the diamond. Not yet...I'll only use it if absolutely necessary. She couldn't risk knocking herself out at a time like this. Dahlia's eyes moved back up to the quickly expanding Void, and she clutched her dagger even tighter than before.

When they finally reached the mentor, Merek walked up to him and politely asked for him to explain the situation. Once he had finished he returned to Rin and Dahlia, trying to keep the nervousness out of his voice. "Apparently it has been decided that all students will be divided into groups of ten. We are to flee from the Void and the strange creatures coming from it, but seeing as how close they already are, it is inevitable that we will have to fight them."

Athis had just about to respond to Damon's question when he noticed the people ahead of him gaping at the void. Upon turning around he was greeted with a sight that chilled his blood. It was as if every nightmare he'd ever had was charging at him. He stood there in shocked disbelief, this wasn't possible. A student turned around an elbowed Athis in the face knocking him out of his stupor. Athis licked his lips and tasted blood. Sending a mild electric charge through his body he caused all the students trying to push past him to jump back in minor pain. Athis heard somebody say somthing about a tactical retreat and drew his sword. After all every retreat needs a vanguard. Sword at the ready and students parting around him like the Red Sea Athis Roan stood his ground.

Rin followed behind the two, getting himself mentally prepared for any fighting that they would have to do. As he walked small streaks of wind spit off his body, a side effect of having his sword drawn. The Arena had been thrown into a chaos of people trying to escape and others staying back to hold off anything that came. Rin felt somebody tug on his shirt, and saw a girl, steadying herself on his shirt. He smiled at her, "Don't worry. It'll be okay. It will be stopped," he stated, though he was probably just as worried as her. He turned toward Merek, "So where does that leave us in evacuation. It would probably be better to let those who cannot fight leave first, however I'm not sure if you guys are willing to." Rin said. There were too many people in the area to make any coordinated counter attack easily so he was sure the school themselves would do that somewhere else.

"He said that we should flee immediately and stay near the middle, but I'm afraid I disagree." Merek said, gesturing to the mentor who was currently busy talking to some other panicked students, "We seem to be some of the few that have not completely given into panic. At the moment we are capable of fighting back, and considering how little time we have until the creatures arrive, I would rather we stay near the outer edge to protect the crowd. Of course, neither of you have to if you don't want to."

"As much as I'd love to just leave here all merely and safe," Rin said grinning towards Merek, "I'm going to have to say I agree with you. Besides, I can't let other people have all the fun" Rin said gesturing towards the back of the crowd. He then looked towards Dahlia to see what her response was.

I nodded my head as the group began talking of staying near the outer edge to defend the crowd. Glancing down, I noticed I was in a frilly skirt paired with a funky top and heels. 'This won't do in a fight.' I thought to myself as I concentrated on my outfit. Finally the outfit began morphing into a pair of combat boot and thick black fighting armor.

"Well then let's go fight some nasty monsters because they can't do this to us." I smiled flashing a pair of wickedly sharp feline teeth as I started shifting into my dark jaguar form.

"No way am I letting you two have all the fun. I'm definitely staying." Dahlia decided. I can still fight without my item. She twirled the dagger around her fingers, staring at the Void. "And I agree with Merek. We should move to the outside to protect everyone else." Dahlia looked around at the other Altorus. Most were not in the seemingly calm state that Dahlia and the others were. We can do this.

Rin raised an eyebrow towards the girl who shifted into a jaguar. "Well that not something you see everyday," He turned to the other two. "Very well, then we should get going before they reach rest of them." Rin quickly turned and headed towards the outter ring of students, occasionally turning back to see if the others were following. As he reached their destination he looked in a calm terror to what the Void had brought. He swallowed and prepared for what would come.

Dahlia followed closely behind Rin, occasionally having to duck around the panicked Altorus. She kept her face blank, refusing to let anyone see how terrified she really was. Her necklace was still glowing slightly as she moved to stand by Rin and Merek. Dahlia watched the Void, carefully trying to recount everything she'd ever heard or read about it. There wasn't much. She lifted her eyes to look at Rin. "Do you think we can do it?" She asked quietly.

Rin could barely hear Dahlia over the sounds of the panic and chaos that ensued from the Void. "Yeah," Rin looked around though unsure himself, "I think that we can." Rin took a deep breath and looked at the others. "Everybody ready?" Rin questioned, lifting his sword to rest it on his shoulder.

Merek nodded as he pulled an arrow out from the quiver on his back. While on the outside his face seemed calm and his hands remained steady, his heart was pounding a mile a minute. He knew nothing about these strange creatures, which put him on edge. He always preferred to be prepared for battle by studying weak points or the terrain, but it was a luxury that they did not have.

I glanced up at the others as I stood next to the boy I fell on earlier, Rin. I reached his hip in my smaller feline form so I knew in a wolf or a tiger I would be at his chest.

Glancing out at the creatures making their way towards us I unsheathed my claws and bared my teeth. I was ready to fight and defend my home and my people. Even at the risk of my own life. 'If I die today I hope dad and momma get told how I tried to save everyone.'

Rin saw the first of the creatures hit a group to the side of them. When he was it up close, it almost made him throw up. It was a disfigured looking human, with bones sticking out of it as if broken. But it walked forwards and attacked the Altorus with apparently no feeling. Within seconds of it hitting the group, a person who looked like a mentor came forth and killed the beast with one swing of his sword. "This is.." Rin was quickly interrupted as somebody behind him shouted. As he turned he was faced by a large looking creature.

It stood at least a foot over Rin, and too looked like a humanoid. Though this one had a hunched back and a very large, heavy looking shield that covered its whole front. Rin stared at the creature with disbelief, his sword held out in front of him.

Merek stayed a good distance from Rin and Dahlia in order to gain a good vantage point. His eyes scanned the field and he noticed one of the enemies approaching Rin, who hadn't moved yet. "Rin!" he shouted in concern. Nocking an arrow, Merek aimed for the creature's unprotected neck and released the projectile. It pierced the air but at the last moment the beast moved, causing the arrow to embed itself into its hulking shoulder instead.

It roared, more in surprise than pain. Merek gritted his teeth and grabbed another arrow.

Rin's mind quickly went to work trying to think of a plan to get rid of the beast. So, he's big and slow but protects most of his vital spots with the shield. It appears to no other weapons though... "Merek! This is all you," Rin shouted jumping up and over the beast using Timids wind. The creatures turned, following Rin mid air as he came crashing down with his sword. He hit the creatures shield, a flurry of wind jumping off the impact, but as he thought, no damage was suffered. "Now!" Rin yelled to Merek as the creature turned its back on him.

On Rin's command, Merek fired three arrows in quick succession, with only a few seconds in between. The first arrow dug into the creature's back in the area where the heart would normally be, but before the beast could react, another projectile hurtled toward it and punctured its neck. The last one impaled the back of its head. Merek watched with brief satisfaction, glad to see that he had successfully struck each vital point.

Rin quickly jumped back with the group, and began regathering his bearings. He pu a lot into the first swing on the creature. "Nice shot," is all he said, breathing heavily.

"Thanks. You alright?" Merek returned before lining up for another shot. He struck the torso of one of the many beasts, a hit that would kill a normal human, but instead it reared up in anger and started running. Only after another arrow pierced its head did it fall to the ground in a heap. These creatures could take a lot more damage than normal humans, Merek noted.

Rin nodded, "I'm fine," he said lifting up his blade. He pointed it at one of the creatures. Feeling the wind around his body, he dashed forward with immense speed. He lifted timid and struck the creature on the shoulder which caused the blade to get embeded in the creature. "Tsek.." Rin mumbled. Using the power of the wind he forced the blade through the creature, cutting it in half. "Too close," Rin said.

Damon stood his ground as well, staying near Athis but out of the way of his bolts of lightning. The ribbons unwrapped around his chest and Damon pulled his scythe to the ready. The ribbons were posed like vipers, ready to strike out and entangle anything that got too close.

Adrenaline pumped through Damon's veins. As the wall approached and the creatures of all shapes and sizes poured out, it took all of his might not to run screaming away from the abyss. He may have been a miller, but was not a coward. His knees shook beneath his weight and he felt almost like he could faint.

A creature with a head of an ox, the torso of a man, and a body of a horse started galloping towards him and Athis. While it had no weapon, its weight and strength could easily trample any of the Altorus with ease. Damon reacted quickly; his life depended on it. He ran sideways and sent out his bands to tangle in the legs of the beast. It tried to get the magical bondage off of it to no avail. It stared at Damon with cold, unfeeling eyes.

I left out a loud yowl as I sprung forward in my feline form. Pushing of strong legs I quickly gained speed towards the creatures. As I reached them I pulled my back legs forward and pushed of, jumping up to clamp my jaws around one of the ghouls necks. As the dead creature began falling, I pushed off of its shoulder onto another creature with my claws extended.

Athis watched the bull creature topple to the ground with a sickening thud. Before he could yell a compliment to Damon five creatures that may have been human once were on him. They attacked with clawed hands making it fairly simple for Athis to dodge thier attacks. One got behind him and Athis blocked the creatures swing with his sword while shooting a bolt of lightning into the creatures stomach. Instead of dying the creature surprised him by racking its claws against his chest. Athis recovered and decapitated the creature but he could feel blood driping down his chest. Athis killed the other creatures quickly not allowing them inside his guard. Panting heavily he looked at Damon then at another group. "Damon"! Athis pointed to the other group.
