Fade to Black [Inactive]

Dahlia stared with wide eyes as one of the creatures came towards her. She looked down to her puny dagger and then up at the monster. It swung its sword her and she ducked under its arm, swinging her dagger in a wide arc. It dug into the beasts back, and it roared angrily. Dahlia cursed and ducked as it came at her again. She dropped to the ground and rolled away from it, quickly pushing herself to her feet again. She glanced around wildly, and then down to her dagger. Dahlia sighed and then threw it, watching as it flew through the air. The dagger pierced the back of the monster's head, and the monster stumbled backwards, dropping the sword. Dahlia ran forwards, grabbing the monsters abandoned sword off of the ground, and thrust the sword into the monsters neck. It went limp, and Dahlia leaned forward, struggling for a moment before pulling her dagger out of its head. She kicked it to make sure it was dead, then stood back, admiring her work. She wiped some sweat off of her forehead and turned around, looking to see if anyone needed help.

(That was my first time writing an action scene. I hope it wasn't to terrible.)

Rin stood up taking a breath. He looked around at the other studenta fighting creatures. He saw one student take a creature with a scythe and another with lightning. Rin then saw Dahlia being confronted by a creature. But just before he went to help he stopped. She's got it. As he had been distracted he had been surrounded by 4 of the creatures.

"Damn,"he said pulling up Timid. He quickly dashed to the first one not holding back this time. The wind sliced right through the creature. Just before he could retaliate, one of the creatures hit Rin knocking him back into another one, which clawed his back. Rin could feel the sharp dagger like feeling erupt from his back. He remained on the ground holding Timid to protect from further attacks.

Dahlia watched in horror as the Rin was attacked. "Rin!!" She started to run to him, but was cut off by another monster. Dahlia growled and tried to move past it, but it lunged towards her, scraping its claws down her stomach. Dahlia gasped in pain and stumbled backwards, grabbing at her stomach. She pulled her hand away to find it soaked in blood. She dropped down to her knees, holding her stomach with one arm and supporting herself with the other. She realized that she was going to pass out no matter what. I may as well do something useful before I do. She looked down to her necklace, summoning as much energy as she could. The blue light grew brighter, spreading out around her. The ghosts slowly materialized as she pushed herself into a sitting position. "What do you ask of us?" The leader asked in a hoarse voice. He was dressed as a soldier, uniform ragged and torn, "Soldier, I ask of you only a favor in my name," Dahlia coughs, causing the blood to ooze from her wound at a quickened pace, "Protect Rin and Merek from the dangers they face." It was a simple request, one that didn't take up munch energy, or require an oath, and hopefully it will work.

Dahlia leaned back and tried to control her breathing, prolonging consciousness for as long as possible. The ghosts could stay and help as long as she was awake. She struggled to keep her eyes open, staring at the sky rather than the battle occurring around her.

Rin watched in terror as Dahlia tried to come to his rescue and suffered a wound because of it. Somebody got hurt because of my recklessness... The wind around Rin grew immensely powerful briefly then settled down. The wind blowing blinded those around him while it was up. After the wind stopped Rin was left standing in where he was kneeling before. His shirt bloodied and slightly torn, and his hair and eyes had changed colors slightly. His hair now had a hint of light blue and his eyes were the same. He quickly dashed at one of the creatures at an unbelievably speed, slicing it instantly, then continued onto one more. After killing the two creatures he headed towards where Dahlia lay. "Are you alright?" He said, taking off his shirt and cutting it quickly in half. He wrapped the clean part of the shirt and wrapped it around Dahlia's wound. " Sorry if that hurt," He looked at the ghosts, " Are these from your item of power?"

I had taken out a number of creatures and now stand in the center of the ring of bodies. It was calm around me so I relaxed my defensive stance. Big mistake.

A hand grabbed onto the skin behind my neck, lifting me off the ground as it spoke "Look what I found... A kitten!" I began scratching at the hand holding me but it didn't seem to affect the creature as I was turned around to face the monster.

Two large black eyes bore into my own as I literally glanced up at the giant holding me. I bared my teeth and hissed as the foul creature laughed in my face with its stomach churning breath. I could even see bits of rotting meat between its teeth! I growled and slashed my claws at the giants face, cutting into the skin at its eye. The monster reared back before I could get another swing. It's right fist smashed into my side causing white hot pain to explode across the whole right side. A painful cracking sound followed as I'm sure some of my ribs splintered.

Dahlia groaned in pain as he wrapped his shirt around her wound. "I'm fine." She croaked. She looked to the ghosts who had now joined the battle. "Yeah...my necklace allows me to summon spirits. I'd love to tell you more-" she started sarcastically, but stopped and groaned again. She was starting to get tunnel vision, and it was becoming harder to breathe. "Hey..Rin..I'm gonna go to sleep now." Her shoulders slumped and her head fell limply against his chest.

Merek's eyes widened as he saw Dahlia get struck and fall to her knees. He swiftly took out the beast that had been preparing to attack her again before quickly moving into the battlefield. He moved carefully and warily, making sure to take out anyone who got less than twenty feet close to him. Being a long ranged combatant, he couldn't risk an enemy getting too close, but unfortunately that meant he didn't reach them until she had already passed out. "How bad is it?" he asked Rin, looking at the makeshift bandage blossoming with blood stains.

"Alright you can sleep," he said, unsure if she even heard him. He looked around quickly and it seemed most of the voids creatures that had already arrived were preoccupied with other Altorus. Rin watched as Merek approached. "She'll live," he sighed, "but we should get her to somewhere where we can bandage this properly," Rin said looking towards the exit. "We could probably try to make a run for it, it looks like almost everybody has evacuated." Rin stood up carefully moving Dahlia's head off his chest and lifted her onto his back. Holding her up with one hand and holding Timid in the other. He cringed in pain as the weight on his back. He had forgot about his own injury from shock. "So what'd your idea for a plan?"

Merek silently noted that Rin's condition was rather poor as well; they could afford a retreat. "We have made a significant dent in their numbers, at least for now. We should head back to the crowd so that we can find someone to patch her up." He nocked an arrow to his bow as he spoke. "I'll walk a few steps behind you and cover you. I'll make sure not to let any get close."

Rin nodded silently, trying to reserve his energy rather than talking. He started making his way towards the crowd, trusting that Merek would hold off any of the creatures. He watched as more Altorus were getting injured or even killed by these bizarre creatures that emerged from the Void. That's when he heard the loud bang. Then another. Rin turned slowly and stood paralyzed in fear. Facing the entire student body was a blackened creature that must have stood at 14 feet tall. It let out a roar and readied for a charge. It will cut a line right through us... and who knows what would happen then.

The ground shook just as Merek released an arrow, causing the shot to go off course and miss his target by an inch. He quickly recovered and followed up with another, successfully piercing the beast's neck. He turned to see what had made the loud, earth shaking footsteps, and paled slightly at what he saw. The creature was much, much larger than all the others, and almost completely covered in a thick hide. Even if he could get a good aim on it, he doubted his arrows could penetrate the hide. This was bad, very bad.

Merek returned his attention to the other smaller beasts still around them. He continued on with his task of keeping Rin safe, trying to think of a plan.

The giant monster I am fighting stomps its feet and lets out a vicious roar. I blinked and shook my head, to try and clear my foggy vision caused by both the pain from the punch and the squeezing of the giants hand not allowing me to take a breathe.

'Okay think. What can you do to get out of here?' I asked myself. Suddenly I smiled causing the demon to look at my with a confused face. I shifted into a snake and slithered out of the giants fist. I got to the giants neck where I reared back and struck the main vein and pushed venom into its blood. The giant reeled back, swinging its arms to swipe at it's back to try and knock me off. I shifted again for the third time into my huge white tiger form before jumping off the creature.

Once on the ground I turned back to face the demon and watched it. The monster's eyes rolled back in it's head before it crumpled to the ground taking out four or five lower monsters with it. The ground shook as the great beast fell.

What have I gotten myself into. Rin looked around. At the chaos, at the people fighting, and dying to protect those around them. Altorus, mentors, everybody. There's only one line that creature is looking for and it's right towards the exit. Who knows where it's weak point could be? He faced the beast then looked towards Dahlia who rested on his back. "At least you can rest, huh?" He mumbled, though inside he was grateful. He didn't know how much pain her injury would cause her so it was probably for the best, in his mind. "Merek, we have to do something about that thing. It's going to cut a whole right through the exit!" He yelled, nodding towards the exit. "I can't do anything though, with her on my back, we need to gather all the able bodied we can." Rin cringed once more as his back sparked with pain.

"I know." Merek said, picking off yet another monster. Thank goodness his magical quiver never ran out of arrows. "I'm going to go to some of the others that are fighting and tell them to gather and get ready. Will you be alright on your own for a while?"

Rin just nodded towards Merek, " I will be fine, you go on ahead and gather any others," Rin said, quickly turning away from Merek. He had assumed he already left, and started towards a nearby wall, about 50 feet away. There seemed to be a strange spot in the arena free of most creatures. When Rin made it to the wall, he gently lifted Dahlia off his back and up against the wall. He sighed, standing a few feet in front of her, with timid lifted, making sure no creature came close.

Merek swiftly made his way across the battlefield, keeping his bow at his side. He carefully stayed out of the vicinity of as many monsters as possible, not wanting to attract attention. Luckily they were all too busy with other Altorus to notice him weaving around them.

When he reached a magnificent white tiger he paused. It was obviously fighting against the creatures, so he guessed that it must be one of the students using a special power. He stopped a safe distance away before calling out. "Hey, I'm sure that you've noticed that hulking monster over there. We need to stop it before it cuts through the exit. I'm gathering everyone over there so that we can attack it all at once. Hurry there, alright?"

Dahlia felt like she was floating. She could hear the sounds of a battle, but they sounded so...distant.

She forced her eyes to open and blinked as a wave of nausea hit her. She groaned in pain, and blinked again, trying to clear her vision. What...happened...? She could make out a figure standing in front of her now. "Rin?" She called out weakly. "Wh..what happened?" She put her hands flat on the ground on either side of herself and tried to stand up. Pain ripped through her abdomen and she dropped back down to the ground. Dahlia put her head against the wall, taking quick, shallow breaths.

Rin had not noticed any of the creatures make their way around where he stood for a while. He heard some movement from behind him, and he quickly turned around. He saw a very weak looking Dahlia finally awake. "Welcome back, sleeping beauty. One if the creatures hit you pretty hard." He walked over and kneeled next to her. He pointed to her injury, "we should look at it to make sure its okay."

I whipped around and got into a defensive when a voice spoke from behind me. I glanced slightly up at the face of a boy from the group earlier. When I realized that I looked like I was ready to pounce of him and slice him apart I relaxed my stance slightly. Once I looked less threatening to a fellow student I nodded to the boy in understanding. I glanced towards the wall were the group was suppose to form and saw a guy with an injured girl leaning against it.

I looked back at the boy a few frets away from me and nodded my head over to another group of students. I wanted to help him recruit the others. By the look of the beast and the mostly injured students we needed a lot of people to help.

Merek tensed at first, the tiger's tall posture and claws more than intimidating, but then calmed when he realized it recognized him as an ally. When it turned its head at another group of students, he quickly put two and two together and understood. "Yeah, I could use your help. Thanks." It would be much easier and safer to traverse the battlefield crawling with enemies now that he had a strong ally with him.

Dahlia made a face when Rin called her 'sleeping beauty.' At least he didn't call you Shorty again. She sighed and nodded when Rin suggested that they check the wound. She glanced around the arena, and saw Merek and a white tiger. I hope they're okay... She looked back to Rin. "I have some po-medicine in my room. Help me up and we can set up in the infirmary to help the other Altorus too."

Rin held out a hand to help her up, looking around to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them. "Alright but we have to be quick, that big guy isn't going to be sitting around forever. I'm not sure why he doesn't done anything as of yet," Rin said, kind of nervously. The creature just stood there, as if sizing up an opponent, staring at the wall.

Dahlia narrowed her eyes in the direction of the monster, but said nothing. She struggled to push herself to her feet, and held one arm to her stomach, putting the other against the wall to balance herself. She looked around the arena, trying to find the best way to get to her room. Her eyes landed on a door across the arena. She sighed and turned towards Rin, tugging on his sleeve. "We need to hurry up and go, before it's to late."

Rin watched as she struggled to get up. He shook his head, "Agreed, we don't have too much time left, I think." Rin tried to find Merek but he couldn't see him. He wondered how it was going on his end. He looked to Dahlia, "If you want I can carry you again. It might not hurt as much," Rin said, kind of shyly.
