Fade to Black [Inactive]

Dahlia rose a curious eyebrow in Rin's direction, and watched him for a moment longer before shrugging. She spun on her heel and walked out of the cafeteria, occasionally glancing over her shoulder to make sure that the two boys were following her. The last thing she needed was to find herself in the crowded ceremony room completely alone. Dahlia bit her lip and slowed her pace to match the others. "Um...about you earlier question...uh, never mind. Forget I said anything." She smiled and involuntarily sped up her pace. Walking immensely fast when nervous was a bad habit of hers.

Rin caught Dahlia giving him a strange eyebrow, but before he could say anything she quickly headed out of the cafeteria. He followed her out of the cafeteria, not looking to see if the boy Merek was following, assuming he was. Walking behind Dahlia, the crowded corridors were starting to give Rin a sense of unease, though he did not know why. Dahlia had dropped back for a brief second to say something. She started to walk way ahead, so Rin quickly said, "You can just tell me later if you'd like, when there's less people around," he said, considering the fact of all the people around. He didn't know if she even heard him, because she had walked away so fast. I wonder what that was all about.

Merek also noticed Dahlia's odd behavior, but decided not to comment on it. Large crowds weren't a problem for him, but he had to admit that it was a little difficult trying to squeeze through and around people in his attempt to match Dahlia's pace. He managed, his eyes quick to find openings in the crowd, and finally caught up to her again.

Athis nodded his head in greeting at the boy who had sat across from him. He would have offered his hand but he was fairly certain that he'd shock the poor guy if he did. A tray was set in front of him and he attacked a piece of bread. Looking up he noticed everybody else was on their way out of the cafeteria. He gave his half eaten meal a sad look then stood up brushing bread crumbs off his shirt. "Better follow the crowd" Athis said directing the comment at the boy. "Names Athis" he added before turning around and following the steady stream of people.

Dahlia swallowed hard and simply nodded, hugging herself tighter. She mentally chastised herself for bringing it up and then running off like a fool, but looked apathetic on the outside. Dahlia glanced sideways as Merek caught up to her and smiled weakly. "How long do you think the ceremony will last?" She asked curiously.

Merek put a hand on his chin in thought. "It will take several minutes for the students to get organized and quiet before it can begin. I don't know exactly what all will transpire in this ceremony, but since students' attention spans are relatively short, it is typically a good idea to keep it a short amount of time. My guess...is about an hour, possibly an hour and a half."

Rin had kept pace with the two, but he had fallen back while they were talking. He rested his hands on the back of his head and continued down the hallway, watching as the students followed suit down the hallway. They all seemed just as oblivious to what was going to happen in the ceremony as he was, but none of them showed any real doubt or confusion of it. I don't know why I have such a weird feeling about this. He looked at the two in front of him, I feel like if I stick with these two, I'll be okay though.

Dahlia couldn't help but smile at Merek's thinking process. She nodded slowly at the answer. "That seems reasonable enough." She tucked her dark hair behind her ear, and then glanced over her shoulder. Rin had fallen behind a little, so she smiled at him and gestured for Merek to slow down a little. "Hurry up, slowpoke." She smirked at Rin, and then, as if on second thought, looked to Merek. Or up at him to be exact. "You two make me look so short." She muttered.

Avelika had been silent since she got here, she hasn't made a single friend. She felt like an outcast, looking at all these girls, she felt small. She just wanted to become the best. She figured she'd make a friend, no one too annoying. She figured she'd be friends with Hana.

Merek smiled sheepishly as he slowed his pace. "I'm not that much taller than you." he insisted. "Only an inch...or two." He tactfully decided to leave out the fact that, compared to the other larger and more muscular students, his height was rather average.

As they had slowed down, Rin had caught up to them and followed their speed. He didn't mind walking a little behind, it wasn't always like him to be the leader. He liked to sit back while others lead, up until it came to dire situations. His mind worked a lot better under pressure. Rin returned Dahlia's smile, "Slowpoke? I'm just not running to get there, unlike you two, shorty." Rin hadn't really thought about it before. He was pretty tall, but unlike most of the other tall people, he was on the skinnier side.

"And I'm Damon. Sorry 'bout rushing out on you." He said, keeping close to Athis as he followed the students that knew where they were going. "Excited?" His heart was pumping and adrenaline rushed through his body. This was Damon's first big event, and he wanted to make the most of it.

Dahlia huffed and put her hands on her hips. "I just take big steps. And don't call me shorty!" She moved the book to rest on her hip and turned back towards the arena, where the ceremony would be held. Her bangs were in her face again, but she didn't care enough to move them again. Dahlia threw a sideways glance at Merek. "Do you think I could get away with reading during the ceremony?" She smirked.

Rin actually laughed, poking Dahlia teasingly. "Whatever you say, shorty," Rin replied laughing. He enjoyed talking to her. He turned towards the arena. This is crazy, there is so many people here
Hana looked down at her brother "She needs to eat too. Becides, this is the only way out other then an emergency exit." she looked at Aelia "He doesnt talk much unless its for a question or statement." then, Hana decided to answer her first question about the hand thing "I do not hold anyone else's hand other then Andrew's. Unless if you're falling, then that is a different story."
Aelia glanced up as the bell rang.

"Oop. Time to go to the Ceremony. No time for breakfast! Come come! We can walk together. We're all friends so friends should walk together!" Aelia said.

She grabbed both of their hands and dragged them toward the Ceremony. Andrew grew red when Aelia grabbed his hand but was to shy to say anything to her. Besides, he had a feeling if he let go, he'd probably faceplant onto the ground.

Hana didnt like it when Aelia grabbed her Brother's hand. Instantly, she grabbed Aelia's wrist and pressed a pressurepoint on her wrist, causing her to let go "My brother is going to eat weather its too late or not." she went the oppisite way and brought her brother to the lunch room. She didnt care if she didnt eat, but she made sure her brother would get something this morning. Hana always put Andrew before herself. "Go ahead and get what you want, Andrew." she kissed his head

"Ow ow owww." Aelia said, snatching back her wrist. She watched them go away.

She smiled, a cruel, amused smile.

Strike 3 Miss Hana.

Aelia giggled and headed to the Ceremony, her hands fingering her sword handle.

Andrew pointed out what he wanted and was served.

"We...should go to the Ceremony. We'll be late.." Andrew pointed out quietly.

"Dont worry about it, Andrew. You need some food in your stomach. I'm not going to let you starve this morning. As for me, i'll be fine." she looked at him, sighing softly "You're more important then a Ceremony."

"What did you find?" Asked Master Rogar.

"Nothing, Tavis. There is no record of simultaneous reaction from the Items in one area before. But again, it wasn't too long ago that we discovered what they are. My pages are instead looking at the scattered legends and myths right now, searching for hidden clues. Iwouldn't bet on that method though. As of now we're out of promising leads." Replied Mentor Scipio. The two of them were standing in the Master's office.

Rogar cursed under his breath. "This unsettle me greatly. We have always known there are many things we do not understand about the Items, but something with the scale of this should at least leave some traces. Keep searching. I have a feeling we don't have much time." Rogar stood at the wall-covering window looking out at the Arena below with his hands behind his back, watching the students pile out onto the open space.

"As for now, gather the other Mentors. We have the Ceremony to attend." He said, and they both turned and walked out to the corridor beyond.

----------------------------------------------------------

Osilus only managed three bites before the bell started ringing deafeningly accross the Academy. Knowing the consequences of being late, he choked down a few more bites then stood up, ready to go. He touched Amara's shoulder lightly, who wasn't eating but just sat and poked at her food: "Come on." He said softly. Amara didn't say anything but nodded and stood up with him. As they made their way to the Arena, he saw a girl coming back inside despite the bell. Feeling pity for the potential latecomers, he said: "You should really go to the Ceremony now. It's not a good idea coming late to anything Master Rogar attends. Not a good idea at all."

They were sweeped outside by the wave of Altorus rushing for the Arena, Amar sticking close to him the whole while. The Academy wasn't really that big, and he estimated only 70 Altorus, but that was the largest group of them he had even seen in the three years at the Academy. Together, they stood into rows before the wooden stage in front of the Central building under the guidence of the seven Mentors.

(OCC note: The next chapter of the story aka the action part is coming out in 30 minutes. Please tie off your converstions as once it comes out the scenario will be entirely different.)

Merek glanced at Dahlia in amusement. "Possibly. However, I've heard that some of the mentors are rather strict, so I wouldn't advise it." he responded. His attention turned toward the people around him. It seemed that the flow of students into the Arena had slowed to a trickle, with most already standing in one of the rows of people, chatting among each other.

(OOC note: I have work in half an hour. If I put this off I will have to post it tomorrow instead of today. Do you guys want another day to tie off your conversations, or do you want me to post the next part today?)
Master Rogar stepped onto the crude stage before the body of Altorus, the Council and the other Mentors trailing behind. As he took his place at the center of the wooden structure, the Council stopped a little way behind at his left and the Mentors fanned out, forming a semi circle around him. Rogar raised his hand for silence, and the older Altorus knew enough to obey, but the group of new ones did not seem to notice the gesture and keep on with their conversations. Irritatated, Rogar snapped his fingers and the bell ran again, this time incredibly loud, drowning out the voices and made every one below him covered their ears in pain. The silence that follow was absolute.

Rogar cleared his throat. "WELCOME, to the annual Ceremony of the Academy of Altor!" His words filled the silence, strong and confident. "As some of you might not yet know, my name is Tavis Rogar, Master of the Academy. I represent the crown, as well as the King himself. And as long as you stay and study here, I will be the one to guide you through the process that will preapare you to serve our great land." He turned and walked to the east side of the stage, making sure that every eyes in the Arena was tracing him. Rogar raised a finger and pointed at the great darkness at the horizon. "That is the Void. It surrounds Kelaron on every side, from the grasshill of the North to the far sea of the South. It covers the rest of our world, and its origin can only be found in myths. Not many dared to venture near it, for all who travels out into it never returned. It is believes that they are all dead, and that no mortal can survive the great Void. None except...you." He turned back to the mass of Altorus, waiting for the words to sink in. "All of you here today are chosen for one reason. You are the wielder of the Items of Power, the legacy left behind by the Great Savior himself. The Academy exists with one purpose only: to strengthen your ability and self control, so that you would lead all of us, the mortals, to the forgotten world. You would cast away the darkness, so that ..."

Rogar trailed of, hearing voices and murmurs from the Altorus. He especially hated it when his motivational speech is interrupted, and prepare to snap his fingers again, before he noticed that they weren't looking at him, but pass him. The Master turned back in curiosity and frozed in place. His eyes slowly widen and his face turned bloodless white.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Osilus and Amara stayed closed together, litsening to the old speech that the Master gave every year. Osilus remember how great he felt the first time he had heard it, of himself seeing all the great potential and power the Master said he could achieve. After three years it was just plain boring.

Suddenly, Amara squeezed his arm painfully. Osilus scowled and turned to her: "Ouch Amara. What's wrong with you today?" But she wasn't looking at him. She was staring out at the Void, her face entirely blank of any emotion but terror. Pure ice-cold terror. He followed her gaze, and what he saw was beyond words. Just like his dream. Just like when he was overwhelmed with incomprehensible vastness. Just like when he woke up srceaming. But this time he was awake, and the scream was stuck in his throat.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Amara was 11 again. Terek, the cocky kid two houses from her, had refused to let her play with the group, because she was a girl, and girls are weak. She had told him that she was not weak, that she was probably braver than any of that bunch of kids. And she had been, accepting the dare to climb the Border Wall, something every adult had forbidden the children to do. So she spended hours doing exactly that, running up the age-old stairs and climbed over where the walls had collapsed to leave piles of rubble. Many times she had almost given up, until she thought of the smirking face of Terek and kept on going.

Amara reached the top of the Wall at sun down. The West sky was a bright orange, illuminating nothing of the endless darkness before her. She looked out into the infinite night, something in it caught her eyes. A meer shadow, a faint outline of some figure. Amara squinted, trying to see what it was. And then it set eyes one her. She suddenly felt a great presence, its alien gaze met her eyes. In that instance, Amara looked at the abyss beyond, and it was parts of her died. The instance lasted like eternity. She had ran as fast as she could afterward, screaming in mindless terror, all the while feeling the weight of its gaze.

Amara sense Osilus squezzing her hand back. "Great Altor..." He whispered numbly. The other Altorus had already started to notice it. On the stage, Master Rogar had stopped as well.

--------------------------------------------------------

Master Rogar was transfixed by the sight. The darkness was moving forward, devouring the land. But that was impossible. Why would it...? The thought clicked. Could it be that fast? The reaction from the previous night was the only warning they got. He snapped out of his trance, hearing the voices of the other Mentors behind him. The Council didn't watse any time and started arguing immediately. Rogar turned and grabbed the nearest Mentor. "Prepare the Altorian aura field around the Central Building now. Tell the others to organise their students and moved inside it." The Mentor looked past him, mental strain obvious in his eyes. "We wouldn't make it. With that speed, the Void is going to be upon us before we could start moving." Rogar was about snapped, but he knew that the Mentor was right. "Then organise a tactical retreat. All these Altorus can fight. Put them in teams of Ten under each Mentor. It would be slow, fighting and retreating at the same time, but that's the only viable plan. And set up that damn Aura field as fast as you can!" Mentor Grafik nodded and hurried away.

Rogar looked back at the oncoming darkness. For the first time in three decades, he felt fear.

---------------------------------------------------------

The darkness fell upon the Academy. As its edge came within a mile of the buildings, it suddenly stopped. And from out of the darkness came armies of things. Black distorted things that resembled from human and animals, to shapeless monsters that was nothing but piles of bones, talons and teeth. They immediately headed straight for the mass of Altorus, running toward the Academy. The landscape behinds them slowly faded to black.

Hana stood at the ceremony. She grabbed onto her little brother's hand. Knowing he was going to stick with her no matter what "Andrew, get ready, Alright?" she looked down at him with a serious look "No matter what they say, you are staying with me. got it?" Andrew was most important to her. And she will fight to the death for him.

Merek didn't move at first, stunned by what he was seeing. The Void was moving, and at an incredible rate at that. He could hear orders being shouted over the panic of the students, clearly in an attempt to organize the situation. However, it was proving to be difficult. Merek glanced back at the Void again; it had stopped, and now unearthly creatures had begun to sprout from it.

Grabbing his bow, he glanced to Rin and Dahlia. The weight of his weapon helped to reassure him, even if only slightly. "We need to get to one of the mentors." he insisted.

Dahlia's eyes widened and she gasped. Her shaking hand moved to her dagger, the other clutching the book tightly. Her eyes traveled down to the large blue diamond at her neck. Oh no. No, no, no, no, no. Her head was throbbing as she glanced back up to the Void. This is bad. This is really, really bad. This was the first time in her life that her item of power would truelly be useful, and she couldn't even use it.

Dahlia needed sleep to be able to use and control her item, and it'd been about a week since she'd even attempted to actually sleep, instead of occasionally dozing off. She swiftly pulled her dagger from its sheath. I'll just have to make do with this.

Rin listened intently Master Roger spoke, especially after the first time he made the bell sound. As the ceremony went on however, he noticed some people looking past the Master. The Void was making its way towards them, and the Master barked some orders for a tactical retreat. "That's probably the smartest," he mubbled, kicking up Timid from out of the sheath and into his hand, wind rushing around him briefly when he had done so. He turned towards the other two, agreeing to what Merek had said. "We should all try to get to a mentor soon." He noticed Dahlia was shaking clutching a dagger and her book. "It'll be okay, Merek lead the way. We need to find a mentor as soon as possible so we know what to do." Timid started to glow with its green aura.
