Fantasy Element Academy

Adrienne was sitting underneath one of the trees in the courtyard and she was trying to concentrate all of her energy throughout her body but she wasn't doing as well as she usually did.The reason for this is because of the fact that there was so many students talking about the Battle of Champions and how excited there were and stuff, personally she wasn't interested in it at all right now and she wanted to focus on her studies and clubs right now.She closed her eyes and tried to block out any loud noises that was near her.

Ivan finished his book and closed it with a satisfying *thump*. However, he still didn't find what he had been looking for. He had been almost compulsively reading books that could give him any lead for several months now. Regardless, he had to clear his mind. The final battle was approaching and he needed to maintain focus.

He returned the book to its' proper location and, with his trident strapped to his back, strode down the halls. No one tried to make any snide remarks as he walked any more. It seemed they realized he could easily kick their butts. He exited into a courtyard and was met by some teachers standing next to a cave entrance. The cave was new and specifically created to deliver contestants to the arena without revealing anything that they might have done to the field.

Once at the arena he was led to his own private room where he could warm up or do some basic practicing before the final battle. Everyone who wasn't competing could watch the battle through several hotspots, mostly break rooms, on magical screens.

(everyone competing, make your way towards the arena)

Ever since he took out another student everyone expected to go far in the tournament and made it to the final round Xel found that his peaceful life was pretty much gone. Now more people knew his name and as the rounds progressed there were more people observing him, trying to find out anything that might give them an edge against him. The only place where he had any privacy was his room and he hated staying cooped up in his room but it was the only place where he could practice any techniques without being watched with all his usual hideaways no longer accessible because of BoC. There were just two hours left before final round began and he was all geared up. He was wearing a modified version of the provided armour and shorts with a belt around his waist where he had placed his whip and light leather armour that covered his arms and legs. The modified armour had the shoulder parts removed and was made lighter. It molded to his body and was made more flexible to give him a greater range of movement. The singlet like cut ensured his arms wouldn't be obstructed by it. The armour though thin, provided some protection from other attacks and would allow him to best make use of his mobility and superior reflexes.

He withdrew his whip from its place on his belt and attached it to the ceiling with a quick flick of his wrist before pulling on it to drag himself away from the rest of the students and out to the courtyard. He noticed some junior students flinch at the sight of his whip sending the fear in their hearts. No doubt it was because of that one student who got struck in the face by it when he tried to avoid the attack and ended up with a nasty scar.

At the cave entrance Xel was welcomed by a group of teachers including the professor. He had sensed their surprise, especially the professor's when he made it the final round. He had after all remained an average student in all of their classes and had shown little improvement in the courses he had taken during his time here. Inside he was led to a private room where he had to spend the rest of his time until the final rounds begin. He sank into the couch and closed his eyes as he prepared himself for the fight recalling the fighting styles he had seen of those who had made it to the final round as best as he could. All the important things that he needed to know. Their element, strengths, unique skills and the weaknesses they had shown if any.

(I realize I never said anything about armor. It basically looks like

but can be modified from person to person to fit their fighting style and such.)

Sounds of grunts and electric shocks filled the air of the private prep room as Marissa sparred with another fulgurmancer, a childhood friend of hers, who had already lost their battle in BoC. They were one of Marissa's close friends who was willing to fight with her everytime. Especially at moments like this when Marissa knew she was going to cave in from worry. It was after Marissa's ankle got wrapped by her partner's whip, knocking her off balance. Marissa let herself fall to the ground in defeat, her head to clouded with the thoughts of today.

When her friend helped her to a bench they sat close to one another like they did as kids.

"You know I'm really glad they let you in here," Marissa said while she looked down at her hands. "It just helps you know with the nerves."

Marissa's friend gave Marissa a smile and wrapped her arm around Marissa's shoulders. "Hey no problem Riss. I'm always here to help tone things done. Plus you shouldn't be nervous, I mean you came in 3rd last year so you will probably crush this as well."

Marissa laughed, "Yeah I guess your right. It's just..."

Marissa's friend rolled her eyes and stood up saying, "Listen to me Riss you got this. Now relax and I'll be cheering you on. I gotta go now so I'll see you soon."

As she waved goodbye to her friend, Marissa couldn't help but retreat back to her worried thoughts as she lay on the bench waiting for the event to start.

(sorry @Lola Shimmer I never got an alert for some reason x.x we can say they had last minute practice before Niou had to leave :/ )

Niou panted a little as she rushed towards the arena, thankful she wasn't late since she was happily escorted to a private prep room. She looked around and took note of the basic weapons lined on the wall, but with her blade in hand and trident on back she knew she wouldn't need anything more. The girl heard the door close behind her and she just sat down on the bed, figuring she had done quite enough practicing for the day; anything last minute wouldn't do her much good in comparison. As she sat down and looked around the room she could feel her palms sweating with anticipation. She wasn't used to this kind of attention. People knew her. People were praising her. People were watching her. She was flattered by it all, but it was overwhelming to say the least. She was confident in her abilities, but anyone in her situation would be nervous; she was only human.

The girl took in several deep breaths and, unlike many people who would use these last few moments as last minute training, she took it as a moment to calm herself down and try to get her heart rate back under safe measurements before it gave out on her or something. Niou put a hand to her chest and almost laughed at how pathetic she felt right now. "Get it together." she told herself, smacking her face lightly as if trying to bring herself back to reality. "You've come this far. Be proud. Hold your blade up high and fight with pride!"

Luna sprinted to the cave entrance as she strapped her studded leather armor on. She already had her weapons strapped on. She wanted to win, to make her family proud. Her parents and older sister had won BoC when they were in school.

She tapped her foot nervously on the ground as she waited in the prep room. People who had never given her a second look had been greeting her in the halls and inviting her to eat with them. It was a bit overwhelming, if she was honest. She practiced breathing to calm down, but it didn't work so she fidgeted with her armor and adjusted her weapons in their sheathes. The past few weeks had been exhausted, but she was proud of herself. She had done more than people that was possible. "Don't underestimate me. Don't count me out yet," she murmered.

To say Kaia was nervous was an understatement. There'd been so many emotions running through her constantly during the past month, but now it was all just senseless background noise, perpetually grinding against her nerves. She really wanted to win. She knew very well that everyone did, but she really wanted it. Last year her loss especially bad, taken down by the Academy's very own Kuroha Izanami, making it only to 7th place, which could explain her resentment towards him. The girl was livid when she learned that she'd lost to that air head only for him to give up,and she had a feeling there was more to it than he let on, but still, losing for nothing stung her pride. If he'd won, that would've been a different story.

Her thoughts flickered back to that day, a month ago, when she and Po'd found Kuroha and Liz in that courtyard, and despite her... Dislike for the male she couldn't help but feel slightly worried. She hadn't been able to check on him since then, popping her head in every so often only to find some chick at his bedside who glared daggers, and while Kaia wasn't one to back down from confrontation, she thought it'd be best to try and avoid one in the infirmary filled with the injured and unconscious. She really didn't need to get detention while she could be training. An unusual sense of dread and anxiousness made her stomach twist, and a thought that'd been bouncing around in her head that night came back to her suddenly.

"He's done something really stupid, hasn't he?"

Kaia shook herself, growing irritated with the direction her thoughts had taken. She wasn't there to worry what Kuroha'd went and gotten himself into, she was there to win.

Or, at least she hoped she was.

She shook her head again, hoping to throw the doubt out of her mind along with whatever mess Kuroha had created. Glancing around, she realized it'd be best to start heading to the caves, and checked to make sure she had everything before leisurely making her way through the forest. The anxiety was always the worst before the fight, for her at least. Po came to her mind then, her little cheerleader, and she grimaced at the thought of losing again, before she seemed to remember something. Although it didn't erase all of the nerves, it gave her a boost of confidence and she tightened each of her ponytails, her slow walk quickly morphed into a light jog and a lopsided smirk pulled at her lips. Even if she lost, at least she'd have something to show for it this time.

(Hope that's legible, exhaustion is creeping in. If there's anything I should change because of the Kuroha thing, just let me know.)

As Liz got more acquainted with the school, she become happier, making new friends and generally having an awesome time. "Things look to be shaping up..." She continued walking through the school happily.

(For those who didn't see the OOC, I appolgize for my unannounced absence today.)

Finally Ivan was led up a set of stairs and to a wide open hallway beneath the coliseum seats. Most of the ground level had been cleared out so contents could leave freely leave the coliseum as soon as the games started. Each contestant had their own section of the arena to start in, and was specialized to their element. For example Ivan started on a small island only large enough to stand on surrounded by water in his section. He watched as everyone else took their positions and waited for the gong.

When it was time to enter the arena, Niou slowly got to her feet and kissed the gem on her blade "This is it... bring home the trophy." she whispered to herself before sheathing it against her hip and being escorted to her section.

She looked around the body of water from the little island she stood in, narrowing her eyes and watching as a thin layer of ice started to form around the water where it met the land. She looked up and took in a deep breath, intertwining her fingers and popping her knuckles out. The girl could feel her heart racing in her chest and her hands sweating and shaking, but with the sheer suspense and anticipation of waiting for the gong to sound, she didn't even register her nervousness anymore. All she could feel was the energy around her. "...good luck."

Ivan first took a moment to study each of his opponents. When the gong sounded he pulled some water under his feet and propelled himself over the coliseum. He was at first confused as to why no one was in the seats (as stated in a previous post), but then remembered that they weren't allowed out here right now. He had been so focused on his opponents he didn't even have time to pay attention to the stands.

Regardless he stared heading toward the forest where he knew a branch of the river would go and patrol that are for a while.

(I will be gone this weekend and give @Kestrel (my friend IRL) control of Ivan until I post again.)

Kuroha was pretty much late, getting there last-moment at the cave and thus being instantly taken to the arena rather given time to prepare. Then again, he already was prepared. Currently, he resided within a black cloak which had sleeves and a hood, as well as his entire body aside from eyes, nose, and ears covered by piles and piles of bandages. He had on his nomad/monk pants as well, making for it to not be a whole naked kind of thing. The bandages and cloak were to give him a bit of weight, as he was a bit light on his feet lately for some reason.

For all Kuroha knew, that little stunt he pulled the day prior to the start of the Battle of Champions may have messed with his nerves or something, perhaps screwed with his body a little and thus given less restriction to his muscles or lessened his weight, but he didn't care to really give check to see what had him light on his feet. In fact, it might just be his magic passively circulating oxygen within his body to lighten him up. Regardless though, he'd made it through the month without any real complications, although he'd been made to hold back an out-of-place bloodlust that last fight of his.

"It seems I'm here once more... Third year here, and this time I'll be sure to get that first place..." Kuroha said to himself, keeping himself prepared for the coming fight. He recognized at least one or two people of those who were in the final ten, at least one or two he knew. He'd pretty much worked on gathering information about the rest though, so of course he'd recognized all of them. Hopefully, like all the one-on-one matches so far, he'd be without breaking a sweat or forced to use his little tricks he's been keeping secret, though he knew for Ivan and a few others, he'd pretty much need use them.

((Working on more, soo... Really just a placeholder post to also make up for a lack of stuff before the gong :x ))

After what seemed like ages, a teacher that Luna didn't recognize led her to the arena.

She could see the other contestants in seperate sections of the arena. Each person was grouped according to their element. Luna's section was bright and sunny, filled with an inviting warm light.

As she waited for the gong she fiddled with a stress ball made of light. Her hands were shaky and sweaty. Breathe in, breathe out, she told herself. You've made it this far.

When the gong rang, Luna leaped off the rock and sprinted to the forest to watch the others and decide where to go.

The instant the gong rang through the air, Niou jumped off of the little island, creating an ice platform in the water under her feet right as she landed. She ran across the water using that method until she reached actual land, and she turned back and pulled her trident out from over her back, watching as ribbons of water appeared from her section and started to follow her... may as well have some line of defense in case someone catches her offguard.

Kaia had barely made it to the arena in time, and was quickly rushed out into her section of the coliseum, armor strapped on tightly and the onyx colored add-chain in her hand. Her section was composed of an array of gravity defying columns, and she sensed, as well as felt, that it was a low gravity area. Her eyes narrowed as she glanced around, and she was glad she was the only gravamancer who'd made it this far, otherwise there could've been trouble. Or, more trouble than what already was.

The ring of the gong suddenly reached her ears and she got moving quickly, used to how her body moved without the hindrances of gravity, despite not having much control over the element. Kaia flipped through the air and landed softly on the last column before jumping out of empty space and onto land. As soon as her foot made contact with the grass and she wasn't as weightless, she shifted into a dead sprint for the trees, eager for some kind of cover. The open space put her on edge, knowing that there were several other people in the arena with rather large advantages over her. Excelling only in hand-to-hand combat, she'd have to get close to do any kind of damage, and while she was fast, she was unsure if it was fast enough.

She stopped running suddenly, eyes wide as she glanced around. She could've sworn she heard someone just then...

(Pretty much based her section off of the gravity picture in the mechanics tab, as I had no idea what to do for it. But if there's anything I need to change, feel free to let me know.)

Xel stood in his section, as he took note of his opponents contemplating whether to let them take each other out first and only attack when attacked or jump in straight on the action in the middle. Winning hadn't been as much of a goal as testing his abilities and entertaining himself and it still wasn't but it would be fun to see the look on the professor's face. His worst student ever winning BoC. It would be amusing and it might help him survive the rest of the year. The gong sounded and Xel saw other contestants heading into the different parts of the forest. Today's not sit back and watch time Xel. Time to get your lazy ass moving. He concentrated his lightning magic at his feet making an explosive sprint into the forest, avoiding the open plains. He halted in front of the trees, the magic around his legs vanishing. The air around him crackled with lightning, forming a barrier around him that was of such low energy it was invisible to the naked eye. The barrier wouldn't harm a fly but as a defensive option with his reflexes, it was perfect for avoiding attacks from blind spots. Perfect. I'll disappear here.

Luna glanced around as everybody sprinted to the forest. She turned away to avoid them and headed to a rocky area. Maybe she could find a cave, and avoid the others. She didn't glance behind her until she was at the rocks. She didn't see anyone, but that didn't mean that nobody followed her. She stayed low to the ground and zigzagged through the earthen maze. She finally found a stream that led to a cave. After lighting it up, she surveyed it. Hmm...This should be okay. Plenty of cover, and water. I'll stay here for now. She thought.

Ivan knew that most everyone had headed to the forest. It was a predictable pattern, repeated almost every year. When he reached the river, he set up defenses to alert him if someone came near, and water traps. Then he waited.

(Sorry if it's OoC. I'm just trying to keep him from dying, until Shog gets back. Also, it's short because I have to leave for a couple of hours.)

Kira was in the stands, ;ate at that but still she was there, she had promised that girl skye she would meet her but she figured she might have gone on having waited to long on kira actually getting to the meeting spot. So she had just come on to the arena, she had promised Niou she would be here and didn't want to miss it. Kira's eyes were glued onto the people in the competition as it started looking for that familiar face and when she found it she smiled. "COME ON NIOU, KICK SOME BUTT!" she declared at the top of her lungs. With a peal of laughter kira started to look around for somewhere to sit and to see if she could spot Skye in the process.

The gong sounded, and things began. There one minute, gone the next; Well, more like moving a bit too suddenly and quickly for anybody watching Kuroha to notice he'd begun moving until he was already in the forest, headed straight for the center of said forest. It was a risky position, sure, but it was by far the best location for one of his more powerful and wide-ranged techniques. The very moment he touched middle, "boom." Air pressure wildly flew out around Kuroha, a nice open space created by Kuroha to keep a good open space in the center of the forest for Kuroha. This would play to his advantage, though most people wouldn't think so given his usual fighting style being kind of like an assassin, up and vanishing in obstacle-filled places and easily getting around the opponent, plus the fact he fought up-close and thus open spaces made for easier long-range attacks toward him.

Niou couldn't help but smirk a little when she heard the familiar voice cheering her on, but she didn't bother to even try and find where Kira was; she wasn't going to distract herself. As the streams of water trailed behind her, she made sure to steer clear of the forest. She had already seen way too many people go in there from the corner of her eye; she was confident, but not suicidal. The girl took a quick look around her area for a place to hide for the time being... if she really wanted to she could actually try and wait at the bottom of the lake for the whole game while everyone else takes each other down... but she didn't play like that. Besides, it would basically corner her. The girl instantly started running around the edge of the forest, observing it closely but keeping an eye on everything else around her as she headed for the cliffs.

(I apparently didn't make this clear at all and take all the blame for it, but the stands are empty. The coliseum is in the field where no one was allowed. That's why viewing stations were set up around the school. However, cliff side viewing areas are availibe as well. I know this is OOC, but I wanted to make sure to get everyone's attention.)

Ivan didn't have to wait long before he spotted anyone (an NPC). She was a fifth year geomancer and known for her ability to fight a square battle. Ivan needed a surprise attack, and he had one. He suddenly used the water to throw her to the nearest tree and froze her there. He threw his trident, but not fast enough. The earth rose to protect her and he heard sounds of shattering ice. He called his trident back and prepared to fight her. The earth wall she created exploded towards him ands he suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Ivan ran up close enough to her to fight one on one and it worked for a while. However, it was all he could do to block her strong attacks. As they moved closet to the water, she seemed not to notice. Ivan slightly grinned as the water moved quick enough to suck her in. He rapidly shot ice shards at her under the water and her body was teleported away.

Ivan took a quick breather before moving deeper into the woods. He was sure someone else had noted his position and would try to take advantage of the state he was in. Looking up he noticed it seemed unusually dark today, but he didn't put much thought into it.

Back in her cave, Luna noticed a water spout coming from the forest. It probably came from a hydromancer near the river. She knew that a few hydromancers were here, so she couldn't pinpoint who it was. It seemed dangerous though, announcing your presence like that. Still, it could be a plan, a trap to lure in other contestants. Well, she wouldn't be fooled. She'd just avoid the forest like she avoided people. Suddenly, she heard a stick snap and several small pebbles clattering down a rough, like someone was falling off of a rocky ledge outside her shelter. As she peered outside she saw a boy (an NPC) looking around. She moved around the 3rd year and threw one of her knives at him. He was teleported out and she retrieved her knife. Child's play. She thought. He never stood a chance.

Xel leaped up into the trees, the darkness of the sky catching his eye. It was odd for it to be this dark at this time of day. His eyes narrowed as he stared at it when he heard the sound of footsteps drawing his attention back to the forest floor. An umbramancer wandered into his view, scythe in hand shaking ever so slightly as she walked around the forest, constantly moving to look at all sides as she headed to the center. Nerves no doubt. What a waste. He formed a sharp dagger of lightning in his hand and took aim. "Bye bye kid." He threw the dagger at her heart and before she knew what was happening, she had disappeared from the arena. Xel leaped from the branch he was on to another tree, abandoning the area. No surprises from the kid. Nothing. A pure disappointment for the finals.

"AH!" Niou gasped as she caught sight of a pyromancer beside her (NPC). The man had snuck up on her and slashed at her with his sword laced with fire, but she blocked it by holding her trident up and letting it collide with the blade. The girl's eyes narrowed and she quickly shot at him with the ribbons of water around her, each one hitting him like another spike. She let three of them merge together into a giant, needle-like spike, and right as it nearly hit him he was teleported away before it could slice his head off. She let out a sigh of relief and kept running for the cliffs.
