Luna looked down. "No. I really am curious. I just don't know very many actual humans. Usually I just spend time with all the magical creatures here. I'm a lot less awkward around them."
Reaching out to pat Luna's arm, Skye grinned, "Oh don't you worry about something so silly, I'm sure you'll get used to people in no time." Stretching her arms above her head as she yawned Skye shook her head bringing her cup to her lips to take another drink. Pausing for a moment afterward she sighed before grabbing her 'Stick holding it out horizontally for Luna to take, the 'Stick itself was around 15lbs, the silver tip that was used to tap the ground was thick at the end, before fading into a simple design woven around the sides, and then disappearing all together around the middle leaving the heavy quartzite rod.
"This is the weapon I prefer to use, one of the reasons why I'm not all that big on joining the battle, Your supposed to use your designed weapon, but since I always have this with me.." She trailed off somewhat annoyed.
Niou wiped the beads of sweat off her forehead as she started to make her way back to her dorm, her blade sheathed by her side and her trident over her back. Training with Kira was actually more intense than she thought it would be. She really believed Kira would make for some good competition in BoC; it was almost a shame she'd let her talent for combat go to waste like that. But hey, it was her decision so she wasn't going to push it.. she was actually pretty happy that someone like Kira was supporting her. It felt nice. However, the drops of sweat that was making her long locks of ebony hair stick together was not a nice feeling. She had been thinking about cutting it lately... maybe now was a good time. After all, who knows what kind of people would try and pull a cheap move by grabbing her by the hair. Having it short would eliminate that possibility.
"Why don't you ask those thre- Oh wait, they're unconscious," Kuroha said in a menacing tone, almost like he was enjoying all of this. This... This wasn't Kuroha, and even Ivan would be able to tell there was no way in hell this was Kuroha. It was his body, but it wasn't him. Pulling his hood off, there was quite a few differences in before and after. The first, quite clearly the devilish look of enjoyment on his face. Another was the fact he had his hair just sprawled all over his head, something he didn't let happen even when he let his hair go free-flow, and then there were two more big factors different from himself.
For one, Kuroh had blood on his knuckles, from having punched one of them hard in the forehead. Two, red tears; Yes, Kuroha'd seemingly cried in blood, blood that'd flowed from his eyes lightly like tears, having been put there when he'd unleashed that explosion of delinquent girl number three's energy. "So this is the desire said to come from the dark gauntlet..." Kuroha said to himself, air pressure building up in the palm of his loose right hand; enough so it was visual to basically anybody with eyes. "Taste it once, reject it. Taste it twice, rejoice. Taste it three times, crave it..." Kuroha said, raising his right hand so his palm was in front of his head which now looked down.
"To think the second time would actually be this strong a rejoice... It's almost like number two's what gets you hooked, and number three's just what makes you never forget what it is you crave...!" Kuroha said with a devious smile before he spun out his staff with his free left hand, placing the tips of one end up to his own neck. "Only two ways out of this cycle... Permanent loss of physical and magical capabilities... or death...!" Kuroha said monotonously, stabbing his staff into the ground before slamming the mass of pressure in his right hand, straight into his chest. Although still standing from holding on to his staff in the ground, the man was now unconscious.
Xel stiffened as he waited for Marissa's reply. His ears rung with sharp pain at the sound that cut through the air. "What is it with everyone practicing new techniques right before BoC? Shit my ears hurt." He rubbed them gingerly as he tried to pinpoint the source of the explosion. He was certain it was from the courtyard but he wasn't going to go looking now. Far too much walking for one day especially if he was going to compete in BoC tomorrow. And he wasn't about to wait for something else to happen as a result of more magic tests. He'd rather be far away, tucked up in his room asleep. "I'm turning in. Good luck tomorrow and may the best contestant win."
Luna took the 'Stick that Skye handed her. It was well balanced and expertly crafted. "It's beautiful, yet practical" Luna observed. "So, any tips on BoC?" She asked feeling more confident.
Laughing Skye nodded, "Yes, two things, know your opponent, and know your power." Shrugging as she thought about it more, "Really those are the only things that I know that can help you, if you know your opponent, their power, their weaknesses, then you'll be able to defend." Sitting on a window ledge she crossed her legs, lacing her fingers over her knee, "If you know yourself, really truly know yourself, then you'll know your own weaknesses' what to avoid, what to use as a counter, its all simple if you follow those rules."
Frowning for a moment Skye giggled, "Really, these things are all what the experienced students know, they are so friendly, and helpful, but people tend to forget that if they help you perfect.. They know what your flaws, what your strengths, and your triggers are." Shaking her head she sighed. "Its a game of cat and mouse, whoever is the best fly on the wall wins, whoever keeps their strengths to themselves, yet knows how to use them to the other persons disadvantage, that's the person with the highest winning factor." Smiling softly she placed one hand on the sil' feeling it for its warmth from the sun, "Theres nothing quite like that moments taste of victory." Her face became shadowed by a self disappointment, "Except the everlasting taste of failure."
After a quick and refreshing shower, Niou stood in the middle of her dorm room, staring at herself in the mirror as she held her blade in her hand. She turned her head from side to side, watching her hair whirl around her shoulders as she viewed it from every angle... she had to get this right. She didn't mind if it was a tad uneven, but Niou didn't want her hair looking ridiculously sloppy. She grabbed her long locks of hair and held it up as if preparing to tie it back, but with her free hand she held her dagger against it and, without hesitation, she sliced the blade through the ebony strands and watched the remainder on her head fall back as a short bob. She disposed of the locks before looking back at herself in the mirror, inspecting the new look before she nodded in approval and turned to head back out. She still had some time to kill, so she figured she'd head for the lake.
Laughing Skye shrugged, "Every element is strong in their own way, and each contradicts the next. I don't think I ever really looked at who was stronger as an element, because it differs from year to year. This year though, I would pay attention to Ivan, hes a sweetheart, but his ability can be used just as much for bad as it can be for good." Chewing her lip she shrugged, "Other than that, I would say.." She trailed off not sure of who next, "Kuroha."
(I'll be free in a few, I don't think I can keep up all this majestic guessing up for much longer xD )
As Niou started to make her way towards the lake she simply passed by most of the other students, picking up bits of conversations here and there but not particularly interested enough to eavesdrop on any of them. One, however, seemed to catch her attention. The girl glanced over her shoulder at the two that seemed to be talking to one another, but her eyes narrowed a bit when she listened in on what they were talking about... Ivan or Kuroha, huh? So those might be my main competitors, she thought. They were probably 4th or 5th Years, but she didn't care. She was going to beat them... or at least, she hoped she was.
Truth be told she was terrified of this whole thing. Excited, sure, but truly terrified... she had pumped herself up so much she felt like she would be letting herself down... no, the whole 3rd Year class for decades on end. No 3rd Year has won in many, many years... she wanted to be the first to break that chain, but... could she? She grit her teeth and felt like slapping herself in the face. Don't let this intimidation break you, she told herself. You're better than this. You are strong. You are agile. You can win.
Feeling someone pause, Skye turned her head in the direction of the girl, "Hello," She smiled warmly gesturing for the girl to come over, sensing she was in some kind of internal battle, and wondering if she could help. Her footsteps seemed fellow, perhaps a fellow 3rd year? She thought to herself, taking in her pressure and stance, "Ah! Niou! Glad you could join us, how are you?" She asked though she had hardly spoken with the girl before, she did not mind getting to know another.
"Ivan and Kuroha do seem like the hardest to beat," Luna agreed. "Ivan does seem nice, the few times I spoke to him. He's...kinda cute, too. For as hydromancer," She admitted as she gave a small wave to the girl who appeared. "I'm Luna."
Niou was about to start walking again but she tensed up a bit and looked over her shoulder once more, eyeing Skye and glancing around a bit before back at her and Luna, as if double-checking that they was addressing her. "...hi." she muttered quietly as she slowly walked over, running a hand through her hair and noting the awkward feeling of not yet adjusting to short hair. "I'm... I'm fine." she shrugged a shoulder, letting out a sigh at her awkward attempt to speak like a normal human being. "I mean, nice to meet you... um." she looked down, clearly annoyed at herself. "You're talking about the BoC, right? I couldn't help but hear.."
Grinning Skye laughed, "Yes, that we are, don't worry we don't bite.. Much." A sly smile broke out onto her face as she estimated where she was standing before sticking out her hand for Niou to shake, "Hi, I'm Skye, you might know me, but might not, so this is the best way to figure it out." She explained smile still stuck firmly to her face as she waited for the girls response.
"Nah, I'm not worried about biting." Niou smirked a little, glad to somehow break the ice there. "I've seen you around a bit before... as I have you." she nodded to Luna with a somewhat polite smile, though it was a tad off. Courtesy wasn't really her thing. "So... you were talking about this... Ivan and Kuroha?" she fiddled with her fingers. "Thing is, I..." she cleared her throat and took in a deep breath, giving herself a more confident persona. "I'm competing in the Battle as well." she announced. "So... what makes you so sure one of those two would win?"
Ignoring the fact that she had ignored her hand, Skye settled it back on her lap smile widening as she studied the girls posture through her weight bearing, showing her as nervous, "Simple. Kuroha is a simple mystery, strange fancy moves, ways of using abilities that people would not assume they would be used, all of that is a contributing factor. Ivan, seems so kind, yet is very well known as a strong user, his constant experimentation, and ultimate strength are contribution to his win, but also the idea of him being so kind can turn people to think that he is truly near harmless, and not nearly as brutal as he is."
Shrugging Skye tilted her head, "Besides age, and experience, the only thing you lack that they strive on is.. Well.." She giggled a bit, "Confidence." She stated as though it was the most amazing discovery in the world. "You lack common interaction that they take in stride, you don't know how to handle situations in the way they they have learned from social interaction, its one major downfall of being even a little bit of an introvert."
Holding up her finger in case any of them would be offended or object she continued with, "But they also have their flaws," She smiled mischief twinkling in her eyes.
"And if I remember correctly, they were both close to winning last year," Luna added. "If I'm to stand a chance, I'm going to have to get to know my competition," Luna said glumly. She was slightly relieved that she wasn't the only socially inept student at Element Academy. "Anyway, what element are you, Niou?"
Niou rolled her eyes a bit when Skye mentioned her age and experience being a disadvantage; she's heard that too many times to be a surprise. Though, when she heard what she was mainly lacking in, the young girl's eyes widened. "Confidence?" she gave Skye the oddest of looks. "I got plenty of confidence on the battlefield... just not... socially." her lip lowered but she blinked a couple time and looked towards Luna. "You're competing?" she asked, eyes a bit alight. "Ah... oh, I'm a hydromancer." she said nonchalantly. "And you?"
Skye felt like laughing, but found to do it would be improper at the time, instead she raised her eyebrows looking at the girl, "Combat is a social interaction. She stated, "Its one of the most important, and vocal social activities that we do here." She shook her head not quite knowing how to explain to the girl how everything worked, so she simply let her words flow.
"Interactions of the body and interactions of the mouth are different in many ways, but they both are equivalent to a conversation. At the end there will be a winner, and a loser. Both will have gained something, and both will have lost something- as strange as that sounds." She giggled shaking her head, "I suppose it is a bit much to understand, I've had plenty of time figuring out how it works, but.. You just have a want, a want of winning and regaining the 3rd years title for the BoC." Shaking her head she sighed, "There is other things you need too, but I cant really tell you, you have to learn them. Your the kind that learns best by experience, rather than by example, so for you to figure it out, you have to be put in a spot to figure it out."
Holding a hand to her mouth she laughed, "I just went on a rant, didn't I.."
Niou blinked a few times and she let out a small sigh. "You know what I mean..." she mumbled and opened her mouth to switch to another topic, but when Skye spoke first and explained to her the social interaction of combat, she gave a thoughtful look. "...w-wait, I can learn by example." her eyes widened a bit in panic when she got the impression that Skye simply wasn't telling her what she was missing. "How am I supposed to learn what I need if the battle starts tomorrow? If I'm missing something, h-how am I going to even stand a chance?" she bit down on her lip but then paused, thinking over the realization in her head... she did lack confidence.
The girl's lips were drawn into a thin line and she slowly lifted her head, taking in a deep breath through her nose and exhaling it through her mouth. "...right." she nodded, staring at Skye with a hint of irritation in her eyes. It annoyed her how this girl could read her so easily. "
Luna watched the exchange with detached inteterest. "You're good at reading people," she observed. She began thinking about her own strengths and weaknesses. She knew that she also lacked confidence. However, she was fast and smart. The fact that she wasn't well-known and was often underestimated could be helpful. People wouldn't target her if they thought she was harmless. "What can you tell about me?" She finally asked.
Liz looked up at Kuroha and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. From her hand, bloomed some flowers that pierced through his skin gently. As the flowers made their way through him, he'd feel calmer, less driven by anger and rage.
Skye paused, a smile itching to be shown, "You? You know how to find your flaws, your smart, and can learn eazily, you just don't have the extra leverage that many others possess. You put up fronts and become distant and disinterested if you begin to feel threatened or like someone might be able to tell something that you yourself have missed." Skye laced her fingers again licking her lips as she thought more on what she could say that might help, "You.. Don't quite know that your trigger is, and your attempt at shielding yourself is to retreat into an introvert barrier, which is important to avoid." Sliding her hands along her knee she paused again before continuing on, "Combat is a language as I stated before, and if you cut off your side, you will begin to have a hazy outlook on what your opponent is relaying to you." She shakes her head laughing, "You are so unsure yet sure, it's quite a task to read, like a book that's half open."
Shaking her head again she sighs, "In the end its a game of who knows what, I know the language your opponents know the dance, and you simply have to follow the steps, add your twists, and make it your own show."
