I'll answer you first due to the simplicity of the answer; modern fireteam distribution of skill will be available. Basically there will be designated marksmen, automatic riflemen (LMGs), field medics, etc.
I should probably add that to the Character Sheet. Good thing you asked that question as I saw it as an obvious, but obviously most people wouldn't know that. Overall a good question.

I've taken a liking to your keen eyes, so to speak. Yep, all of those things will be up for answering when I manage to finish my Tactical Information blurb on the Lore section. Due to aforementioned issues with too many images, I've decided to seperate it from the main blurb about the IUN due to image restrictions.

Information about the Strike Fleet we'll be a part of will also be available. Think of it as a seperate element under the overall banner of the Expeditionary Fleet sent in a sort of forward recon whilst the main force tries to set up a warpgate in the distant asteroid belt. This is all common information which will become available during the IC briefing I'll be writing to initiate the IC itself. The Armored Recon is a mechanized element which utilizes APCs and other IFVs to aid in rapid reconaissance. Due to the nature of planetary invasion, the IUN military follows a Localize and Eliminate doctrine, but issues with its implementation will become apparent, leading to more unconventional tactics undertaken by Strike Fleet command, so we'll be the first on the ground. Once again, information as to the deployments and troop distribution will be available in briefings to the extant that it would not endanger overall mission security; the information I present to you all is, of course, censored by ALADIN.

I'm still around, but I got distracted for a bit. Just an update, so that you'd know I'm here.

Glad to see you two sticking around. Unfortunately the lack of continued interest is a bit disheartening. I'll be finishing the info and all that, but I doubt the Roleplay will ship off as things stand right now.

Whatever happens, just know that I'll always keep an eye out for this story you've made. Even though I've stopped asking questions about the Armored Recon, as I want to relax a bit, I have thought a lot about this story of yours. I'm particularly intrigued about the IUN, the many new nations it has to contend with, along with the grievances of old troublemakers. It allows you to explore the many issues which confront our society today and the ones we'll confront in the future. This topic is truly massive, as it encompasses all of human civilization, old and new, real and fictitious, rich and poor. With this alone, we'll never run out of material for the story. And if we explore this properly, we might be able to do the human race some justice for all the insight we uncover.

I was going to keep it silent, Historical Storyteller Historical Storyteller . But considering the situation, I might as well mention a little hidden mechanic I've got in plan for this universe; the Truth Mechanic. It's relevant to explore the entirety of what there is regarding the IUN and the world.

Ah, the truth is so precious that its bound to be protected by a bodyguard of lies. Maybe these aren't outright lies, but rather its just this convenient deception based on neglect of the truth. After all, when the stakes are high, as in, if you're fighting for the souls of men, you gotta control the way they think. That begins by confusing their sense of reality. And I did have my suspicions that the IUN wasn't as benevolent as it seemed to be. Perhaps it is, to a degree, but that depends on the people who run the show. A lot of folks, when under pressure, work to further their own interests and ensure their survival first. And a lot of folks like to pretend they're helping others when they're only helping themselves. So a good man who truly works for the common good of all is truly rare indeed.

I've babbled on long enough. The point is, the IUN runs on the principle, or at least the illusion of the principle, that peace, prosperity, and unity is what will bring humanity to the next level of civilization. But that principle can easily be distorted if the members of the IUN have grown corrupt and decadent. So, the members of the IUN have to have these ideals drilled right into their heads, by learning the lessons of the past, by making all the hard sacrifices in wartime, and by respecting the traditions and ideals that made the IUN possible. To maintain their place at the top, the IUN has to find its strength every day forever. But since we are just human, at some point, they will fuck up and will have to pay the price, then have to learn things all over again.

I like the IUN, and I look up to it, but at times I'm also skeptical that it can deliver the promises it makes. My opinion of the IUN keeps on changing, because its success depends so much on the character of its members. The IUN is also burdened with heavy responsibilities, I liken the IUN to the titan Atlas, who is doomed to carry the world on his shoulders forever. I keep wondering if the IUN is up to the task. All I know for sure is that the IUN isn't perfect, and I deeply suspect it has committed its own fair share of crimes against humanity, ones that have been hushed up for so long. I believe that even in its weakest state, the IUN holds promise, but everyone there has to stay strong to make it work.

I appreciate your appreciation of my work a large deal, it is uplifting.

There're many mechanisms at work within the IUN, considering its scale and the immensity of its possession and responsibilities. Few people truly appreciate the necessities that a truly global and over-arching government must endure and entertain in order to actually function with any semblance of realism. It is why I find most other roleplays lacking, because they neglect some of the most fundamental aspects of worldbuilding; believability.

There is no such thing as a nation without flaws, and no such thing as a person without secrets. If you expand that onwards to all of humanity, and all of what we have achieved, and in this case, what we might achieve, then any form of global government, which in some semblance might actually be necessary, will face massive difficulties with internal strife and order, and when that is all handled, then the question is simply "how did they handle it?"

Without going further on about the "truth" as it is, I'll just say that if I were to actually get to roleplay this story out, then I would find it a very fun time.

I can only imagine the scope of the IUN's responsibility. International conferences, the promotion of good relations between nations, monitoring the big and small troublemakers, hosting worldwide events, cleaning shit up once it goes bad, trying to convince its members to pay the tab, and trying their damnedest to keep their economy running smoothly. Just to mention a few of the things they have to do. And that doesn't involve their wartime responsibilities, and the laws they have to enforce in space. To do all that, the IUN must have to be pretty damned BIG to even make all of this possible. It has to create this gigantic bureaucracy to just keep track of things. If this is true, then a lot of power in the world is concentrated right in their hands. Its tempting to be a little corrupt and look after yourself every now and then. Well, I may be overthinking things a bit, but there goes my two cents on this matter.

Or, it can delegate responsibility, but that could lead to its own problems. That's the beauty of this story, you try to solve one problem, you end up having to deal with other problems you didn't know even existed. People are just stuck with problems, no matter how good in life they have it, so they just learn to live with it.

Yeah, you're right all about that. Every nation is different and so is every person. If you try to make these people from different cultures working together, I suspect it may cause some unforeseen complications and other interesting interactions. Since we're confining this story to one platoon, a really big platoon at that, it allows us to explore the setting at a comfy pace. We're not controlling politicians, so we don't have to know that much all at once. So, yeah, if we could find other people who are just willing to put in the work, we'll do just fine. We might even make a good story out of it.

Especially after I explicitly said that I didn't want this to happen too.

I'm playing Battlefield 5 and creating a character, I don't really talk in OOC as frequently as most. I would like to take up a Specialist role.

I'm not familiar with the specialist roles, so what do you have in mind for those? And hey, it's good to see another face here, I thought it was just me, him, and shadow.

Hey, you got discord by the way? I have my own personal channel which acts a digital library of sorts. I have books, videos, and articles of a wide variety of stuff. If you have lots of free time, you might want to check it out.

I suppose I can make do with around 4 people, excluding myself.

Would the medic be up for grabs? I think it would be quite fun to play. Related to that though: is something like the Geneva convention in effect? Would targeting medics be seen as a war crime, or are they a totally viable target?

Since we're fighting aliens who bombed Europaia as a way of saying hello, I wouldn't keep my hopes up for medics. We simply don't know their culture, what their military capabilities are, and if they know about us in turn.

Frontline medics are combat essential targets and active combatants. There are more capable healthcare elements and surgical teams available, just never near the frontline. The medic's main task is to ensure rudamentary safety through maintaining combat effectiveness, not necessarily to deal with the entirety of the damage. This is also why the medics of this time and age are taught the basics of keeping peoples' battlegear from shutting down in the heat of the action.

Unfortunately I believe that Shadow has for the moment reserved the frontline medic role.

There is also the fact that Heisenberg just mentioned.

Been dealing with some personal things, so haven't been able to work on my writing today.

I thought I had replied to this, evidently not. Feel free to send me a link.
