Realistic or Modern Don’t Tell Me to Calm Down

She frowned and grabbed his arm, stopping him. “Ah. Don’t walk away while I’m talking to you…. Lucas… I need everybody to make an honest effort for this family. And what I mean is don’t go causing unnecessary trouble.” She warned him, letting him go then and knocked on jacks door. “We’re going for brunch sweetheart. You’re coming with us this time.”

Clay nodded and frowned. “I wanna… I wanna hold her…. Just in case.” He told her quietly, looking more and more in pain by the minute

Jack opened his door and groaned some but eventually nodded "Fine..." he mumbled before closing the door again to get ready in private.

Eddie came down to her a little later and gavw a small smile "Where you wanna go love?"

Max sighed heavily but eventually got up and brought Lilah over to lay next to him. She took a shaky breath as she watched the two of them "I'm pregnant..." she said quietly to him. She'd found out about a week ago and had planned on trying to tell him when he made it home.

She shrugged a little. “Let the boys decide. They’re the most reluctant to go.” She mumbled, smiling as Maya and Grace both snuck up behind and jumped on Eddie.

He frowned and watched her. “You don’t… look happy.” He grunted, starting to lose consciousness again. “Don’t… do something…. We’ll… we’ll…” he couldn’t finish his sentence before his breathing sped up and alarms went off in the room, waking up lilah

Eddie nodded some "Alright thats fi- woah there!" He said loudly laughing happily as he held on the best he could before dropping to the ground some "What are you two little rascals doing?!" He asked them happily.

Max frowned deeply quickly picking Lilah up as she started to get scared while doctor's rushed in. She took a deep breath and stepped back to watch them "Lilah honey calm down okay? Here lets go get a drink for a minute okay?" She said softly when the nurse gently told her they would need the room.

Carmen smiled watching them start to tickle him, clearly as part of some scheme they had come up with between them, going to get the boys downstairs. “Come on. I know it’s hard right now but we can go for a drive and get out of town. It might be good to get out for a while.” She coaxed getting them both out their rooms and sending them downstairs

Lilah frowned, crying loud and holding onto her. “Mommy they’re hurting daddy!” She sobbed, confused as to what was going on. “I want daddy!”

Eddie laughed loudly and played with his girls while Carmen got the boys from upstairs. He got the girls off him finally smiling as everyone came downstairs "Alright lets get going." He aaid happily before going out to the car. He frowned though when it had trouble starting up again and sighed some "Alright, I'll look at this when we get back." He told Carmen softly when he finally got it turned over.

Max shook her head and got her sat in the waiting room "No baby they're helping him okay? Daddy got hurt and they're making sure he is okay." She explained to her.

She just nodded and frowned, watching out the window. She hadn't actually had the conversation with him yet but she really was flat broke even with him paying for all the kids' necessities and whatnot, the bills on the house and the car plus the price of groceries and everything in between she was barely scraping by.

She frowned and held onto her mom tightly "But I want Daddy!" She sobbed, just not getting it along with being not really fully awake until she ended up asleep again, curled up to her mom and holding her hoodie in a tight fist

Max sighed heavily and stayed in the waiting room while they worked on Clay. She hadn't even noticed that she had dozed off as well until she felt a nurse gently shake her "Huh? Oh shit sorry, didn't know I drifted off there....is he okay?"

-4 months-

Eddie sat at home smiling proudly as he stared at the new car he had purchased for the family. He'd moved in now and was happier than he had been in years by this point. Though they all still struggled with the loss of Tilly, he felt that having the family whole again was really helping everyone progress through it all.

Carmengrjmbled a little as the girls were dragging her out of her bedroom after her first lie in in what felt like years. She was back to doing part time at work and the kids were all back at school except for Jack who had insisted on doing home schooling for his last year but they were all gearing up to say goodbye to Eddie for a while as he had a tour coming up soon and she wasn’t sure she was ready for him to go. It was making her nervous what would happen with them with the distance.

She smiled a little at her and nodded. “He was taken in to remove the bullet and he pulled through really well.” She explained. “He’s in the recovery ward now. I would say you’ve got a few days before he can be released.” She explained, taking her and her daughter through to the correct room.

Eddie smiled widely as the girls brought Carmen downstairs and thanked them both. They were now starting to behave a bit better after he had to get onto them for taking advantage of their mom. He was really starting to act like a real dad now and not just the fun parent. He took Carmen's hand and pulled her in close to him "Hey beautiful. I got a surprise for you."

Max thanked the nurse as they were brought to his room. She placed Lilah across the small couch they had near the window and then went to sit next to Clay. Takimg his hand in hers she quietly prayed hoping that everything would be okay for their family, but in her gut she knew that it wouldn't be.

She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Mmm… you do huh? Does it include breakfast? Cause I’m so hungry.” She mumbled, pecking his lips but led him waddle her to the front door.

Clay started waking up a couple hours later, frowning some and watching her in silence until he gathered the energy to reach for her. “Babe?”

Eddie nodded happily and put his hands over her eyes. He waddled her to the front door "Okay ready?!" He said excitedely before getting the girls to open the door for them. He helped her waddle outside and soon removed his hands from her eyes moving to stand infront of her a bit so he could see her reaction "Surprise!"

Max looked at Clay as he started to wake up and rubbed her eyes a bit "Hey....I'm here." She whispered squeezing his hand some.

He frowned some as he watched her, trying to tug her closer. “This guy… was screaming…. At his girl… and he started… hitting her… so I got him … off of her… and he… was leaving. … then he pulled a gun… and shot me.” He grunted wanting her to know that he wasn’t being stupid. That it wasn’t because of his work.

Carmen smiled and stared at the large SUV in her driveway, blinking a few times before looking back at Eddie. “Did you get me a new car?! Eddie…” she smiled more and hugged him tightly again, burying her face into his shoulder. “Thank you.”

Max gave a small nod and kissed his temple gently "Don't strain yourself." She whispered while pushing some hair from his face. She gave a heavy sigh as she watched him "The lawyer should be here in a few hours."

Eddie smiled widely and nodded hugging her tight to him "Got enough space for the kids, gas milage won't kill us. All the bells and whistles you could want." He said happily kissing the top of her head repeatedly "You're very welcome dollface."

He frowned and just watched her, trying to keep calm but even now it felt more like she was more concerned about the police involvement than the fact he’d been shot

She smiled and watched him, “You wanna go see if you can convince the boys to get out of bed so we can take it out?” She asked him, pulling away to go to the girls and get them sorted with breakfast.

Max watched him and gave a small smile kissing him gently for the first time since she'd been there "You better get better okay? No dying on us." She whispered trying to her attitude as positive as she could right now.

Eddie nodded softly and smiled some before he gave her the keys "You go check it out while I get them." He said softly before heading inside. He knocked on Jack's door first smiling as his eldest opened the door "Hey, lets go get some breakfast yeah? Take the new car out for a spin."

Jack had been listening to the commotion with his room being at the front of the house anyway but he hadn't left his room yet. Of the whole family he was struggling the most with everything that had happened and even now he wasn't himself at all. "I'm not hungry." He muttered, "I just wanna stay here and game Dad." He mumbled, rubbing at his face. It was definitely a struggle to get him into a car most of the time and despite both his parents offering to take him out to get a new car he'd said no every time.

He just smiled a little and reached for her to come closer, resting his head back. "Don't plan on it." He mumbled, watchinig Lilah sleeping on the little couch "She okay?" He asked her quietly. His girls were his whole world. He just wished Max could see that he did the work he did so that they could have the nice things and so that in a year or so he could be home whenever he wanted instead of slaving at a 9-5 and never seeing his family. He was almost at a great spot with it but it would have just taken a little more time.

Eddie frowned deeply and gave a heavy sigh "Alright, you want anything from where we go? We can bring you something back." He said frowning more when he said no thank you.

Max move to lay with him and sighed heavily "She is okay...scared, but she was also half out of it." She explained before kissing him gently again "I love you Clay." She whispered frowing softly as his hand went to her stomach.

He frowned, closing his eyes and just resting his hand on her stomach, "Think it's.... another girl." He mumbled with a little smile. "Last one though." He hummed quietly, coughing uncomfortably before resting back again, opening his eyes to see her frowning "You okay?" He asked her, "I told you, we are gonna be just fine with funds and Charlie has a great lawyer coming... we'll be fine." He promised.

Carmen headed upstairs to get dressed to go out, frowning when Eddie passed by her and mentioned that JAck was staying in, going to his room herself, knocking before entering, "Hey baby... You sure? We're only going five minutes down the road." She explained, stepping over to him at his desk and hugged him tightly. "You don't have to though." She promised, smoothing his hair out of his face "I'll give you a hair cut tomorrow if you want while the others are at school, pick us up some coffee or something and we can do what you like... That sound good?" She asked him.

Max sighed heavily and gave a small nod "And if you have to go inside for a long time? They'll never know you or have a relationship with you." She said worriedly before letting a few tears fall as she thought about it more.

Jack sighed heavily but gave a sad smile and nodded some "Yeah, that sounds good mom." He said quietly before giving her a hug back "Love you."

She smiled and kissed the top of his head. “I love you too bub. Call us if you need anything okay? And keep an eye on Stella. I don’t really want her peeing in the house.” She mumbled, soon heading to the car with the others.

He frowned and shook his head. “It’s gonna be okay. I won’t be inside for ages. That’s why we get a good lawyer.” He mumbled, starting to drift off to sleep again.

Eddie gave Carmen a small smile as she came out to the car. He got out and kissed her gently "You want to drive m'lady?" He asked happily

Max gave a heavy sigh but nodded softly "Right.." she whispered

She nodded and smiled at him a little, “I think the kids would prefer I drive anyway.” She mumbled, getting in and headed out to the nearest cracker barrel, worrying about Jack the whole time, noticing Eddie hanging back with her once they got out at the restaurant, watching the kids rush inside to get a table and she leaned into him. “I’m worried about him.” She mumbled.

He hummed quietly before passing out again and held onto her tightly as he slept, looking like he finally had his color back at least, until lilah woke up and lay there looking grumpy.

Eddie hung back with her as they got to the restaurant and nodded some "I know I am too....you think...you think maybe therapy could help? Or a support group?" He asked softly as they walked slowly.

Max saw Lilah and gave a small smile "Hey princess come here." She said softly motioning her over. She smiled softly as she got up and made her way to the bed "You feeling okay?"

She shrugged a little. “He really didn’t want to do it when I asked him… I just want to fix it for him.” She sighed quietly. “But I’ve got an afternoon with him tomorrow. I’m hoping we can figure something out.” She sighed.

She frowned more and let her mom lift her up, moving to try and cuddle her dad, “I want daddy to wake up.” She told her frowning some more.
