Max sighed heavily holding onto him "I'll think about it." She said quietly before looking up at him and kissing him lovingly "I love you so much."

Eddie nudged Carmen awake when it was time for bed and smiled softly at her. He felt his heart swell when she called him Puppy and quickly picked her up bridal style to take her to bed "Come on beautiful."

She smiled tiredly, leaning on him with her head against his shoulder til they got to her room and she got changed into pjs, flopping down into bed and going straight back to sleep.

He smiled and watched her for a minute, giving her a quick kiss. “I love you too gorgeous. I’ll be around all morning again tomorrow” he murmured, kissing her nose and getting up to go get business done

Eddie woke up next to her the next morning giving a soft smile. She kissed her temple gently before getting up to go do his business in the bathroom before going back to her.

Max gave a small sigh but nodded and let him up to go for the night. She sat in the lounge about an hour later giving a heavy sigh hearing Lilah waking up and calling for her Daddy.

She grumbled a little as he got back into bed, rolling in closer to him and slipped her arms around him, feeling the tangled in his hair. “Let me fix your hair tonight.” She mumbled, still half asleep really

She finally wandered downstairs and rubbed at her face, reaching for her mom. “Daddy didn’t say bye before he went to work.” She told her, starting to cry.

Eddie chuckled softly and gave a small nod as he traced patterns on her back "Yeah you can do that." He whispered before kissing the top of her head repeatedly.

Max picked her up and gave a heavy sigh "He had to go to work baby. I'm sorry he wasn't able to tell you goodbye." She said softly before kissing the side of her head repeatedly.

Carmen frowned a little and just snuggled in closer. “You okay with having the kids while I go talk to the salon about coming back to work?” She mumbled, enjoying being in his arms for the first time in years. Not really wanting to get up.

She sniffles and just held onto her tightly. “But I want daddy to stay here when I go sleep,” she told her frowning, eventually starting to drift off again curled up to her until the phone rang at almost one in the morning

Eddie gave a small nod still keeping close to her "I can definitely do that." He murmured before kissing her forehead gently "You don't habe to say it back...but I love you." He whispered

Max frowned as she woke up on the couch to her phone ringing. She picked up and glanced up at the clock on the wall feeling her panic and worry start to set in "Hello?" She asked softly going to the kitchen to not wake up Lilah.

Jack, clays right hand man, was panting on the other end, “max. Shit…. Clays been shot. They’re taking him to the hospital now…. You should go down there…. He’s not… it wasn’t his fault. He was just trying to help… it wasn’t his fault.” He muttered, looking down at his hands covered in his best friends blood.

She just smiled a little and pressed her face further into him, humming quietly until one of the girls stuck their head in and asked for breakfast, finally rolling out of bed. “Alright… you want eggo waffles? I know Wayne brought some over yesterday.” She smiled a little, going over and picking her daughter up.

Max went silent for a minute from the shock before she spoke "I'll be there in just a minute." She said before quickly getting her things and getting Lilah as well. She rushed up to the hospital ignoring Lilah's grumpy questions for the time being.

Eddie chuckled as he watched his daughter nod excitedly. He got up once they left and soon got dressed as well for the day before heading downstairs.

She clung to her mom happily as she walked her downstairs to the kitchen "Mommy? Are you and Daddy together again?" She asked curiously.

She smiled tiredly and set her down on the kitchen counter. “You’re almost too big for me to do that with you now.” She mumbled, getting started on food before answering. “We are trying things out…. To see if we can be a whole family again.” She told her.

The young woman at the desk smiled sympathetically at her as she saw the half awake little girl in her arms. “If you go up to the third floor they will be able to help you there to find him.” She explained after getting the name out of her,

She giggled happily and nodded some "So that means Daddy will be here longer now?!" She asked excitedly while her mom started on the waffles.

Max rushed inside the hospital trying to get Lilah calmed down. "Clayton Cardenas." She said quickly, thanking her as she ran towards the elevators to find him. As she got to the third floor she frowned deeply seeing no one she knew in the waitinf area and two cops posted outside a door. She went up to the nurses station to asked for him room feeling her stomach drop when she pointed to the one with the cops out front.

She smiled and shrugged. “He might be but he still has to travel with his work baby. But we will see okay?” She told her, kissing her head and getting her a plate out, sighing quietly as she grabbed a fork out the drawer that Tilly and Jack always used to fight over, frowning for a moment before putting it back.

One of the cops stopped her as she went to enter the room. “I’m gonna need to see some ID ma’am. And the kid can’t go in.” He told her frowning, taking it and looking it over to see it was the guys wife before nodding. “If you want to follow me in, my colleague can watch the little one for the moment.” He told her a little more sympathetically

She frowned deeply when her mom put the fork back and immediately tried to get it "I want that one Mommy!" She said in a defiant and angry tone.

Max frowned deeply when they stopped her and pulled out her wallet to show ID. She took a deep breath and shook her head as she looked around some "She's asleep....can't she sleep on the couch? Please...you can watch her there, but I can't leave her out of my sight." She begged quietly not wanting to cause a scene.

He went to argue on it when his partner just waved it off, ‘fine but you should call someone to come watch her…. There’s a lot to go over.’ He told her, letting them go inside and see clay going in and out of consciousness, barely breathing clearly not doing well.

Carmen frowned and grabbed her another fork. “You can have one of these but not that one… Maya I said no.” She told her, frowning as she tried to grab it out the drawer anyway and Carmen smacked her hand away without thinking, “stop it!”

Max gave a quick nod and thanked the officer before going in. She placed Lilah on the couch and gulped seeing Clay there. She whimpered quietly when she saw the cuff on his wrist and shook her head some "Whats he going in for?" She asked the officer quietly as she sat next to her husband.

Maya gasped as she smacked her hand and started sobbing as she ran off to her Dad who was coming into the room.

Eddie frowned deeply when Maya came sobbing and colliding into his legs "Hey...hey whats wrong?" He asked looking at Carmen concerned

He frowned. “We’ve got eight warrants out for him. Six for possession. One for intent to distribute and another for grievous bodily harm…. For now he’s allowed to recover but once he can leave here I’m afraid he can’t go home with you.” He told her.

“Her breakfast is on the table.” She muttered, taking the fork with her up to their room, purting jr in her jewellery box.

Max took a shaky breath before giving a small nod "How long?" She asked frowning when he tried to say they wouldn't know until trial "Give me a estimate then damn it!" She said sternly as panic started to sink in that she would be loosing him again. He'd gone to prison for three years right before they had Lilah. She had made him promise not to do it again, especially when she had found out she was pregnant with Lilah.

Eddie frowned deeply and got Maya set up to eat before he went back to Carmen. He frowned seeing her sat on the bed now staring at the floor "What happened dollface?" He asked softly as he crouched infront of her.

She frowned and shook her head. “It’s not hers. I can’t…. I want her back Ed. I want our little girl in my arms again and I want her complaining about girls at school and going through her cheer routine…. I can’t do this.” She told him as her voice started breaking and she leaned forward into him, sobbing.

He shook his head and frowned. “Ma’am there are too many factors for me to give you any kind of timeline. For now I would just spend the time with him here. He needs to recover from this if we’re gonna get him to do the time anyway.” He muttered and left her to privacy right as clay was waking up.

Eddie frowned deeply and held her close as he moved to sit properly on the floor. He gave a small nod and let a few tears of his own fall "I know baby....god I wish we could have her back too." He whispered taking a deep breath "We'll get through this together okay? I promise we will."

Max frowned deeply and turned her attention to Clay when she heard him start to groan. She gave a heavy sigh and gave his non-cuffed hand a small squeeze "Hey..." she said quietly as she watched him.

She just nodded, not making any other sound for a while, still shaking a little when Lucas wandered into the room looking confused. ‘Mom? What day is it? Jack just said it’s the 15th but I swear it’s Monday.’ He mumbled, rubbing at his face, looking a lot more back to himself.

He frowned and just squeezed it back. “Hey… my back hurts.” He mumbled, “you okay?” He was watching her carefully trying to gauge her reaction to all of this.

Eddie looked over at Lucas and gave a small frown "It's the 15th, you had a few seizures that caused you to kinda go into a brain fog. Its alright though and you're alright now." He explained gently to him.

Max frowned and gave a small nod "Probably because you were shot three times in the back." She muttered before taking a shaky breath as he tried to reach for her with his other hand but got stuck when the cuffs restrained him "Were you ever gonna tell me?"

Carmen frowned and gently pulled away from Eddie, wiping at her eyes and standing up. “Come on, why don’t we go round everyone up and go out for brunch?” She mumbled tiredly, ruffling Lucas’s hair and going to get Jack up.

He frowned and looked over at it before back at her. “I don’t…. I just didn’t see how having you worry was going to benefit anyone…. And I wasn’t planning on getting shot…. What’s the …. Damage?”

Eddie helped her up and gave a small nod as he followed them out "Sounds good." He said softly frowning as Lucas brushed past him immediately and went to his mother's side.

Max frowned deeply and shook her head some "Three shots to the back, two went straight through and thankfully didn't hit any organs. One got stuck between your ribs and heart...you'll be dead if it dislodges itself. They'll take you in for surgery soon to get it out." She explained before running a hand over her head "You think we'll have enough to pay for all this?"

He frowned and gave her hand another squeeze "We'll be just fine... Call Charlie... Tell him... Need a lawyer." He grunted, squeezing his eyes shut tightly as more pain went through him, looking over seeing Lilah asleep in another chair, "She'd... sleep through... tornado." He smiled tiredly.

Carmen frowned a little but let him attach himself to her, wrapping her arms around him as well, "You okay? Try to make more of an effort with your Dad Lucas." She told him quietly, smiling as he stood up more, "You're both gonna tower over me in six months.... Your father and I are trying things out again." She explained to him while Eddie was getting dressed.

Lucas frowned some and shook his head some "Why? He is just gonna leave again..." he muttered before going into his room to change
