Fantasy Cursed Island

The hydras uncoiled themselves from around Adran's legs and followed Erina as she vacated the premises. Once Erina was out of earshot, Adran let out and palmed his face, "I cannot believe she just did that."

"We're in a dungeon full of creatures that want to kill us and eat our faces," Adran shook his head, "And she just adoped a bunch of 'kids'. I wouldn't mind if we were staying here," he gestured to the grove, "But we're not."

Niudisa looked to her work again. "Not like she could make them hatch slower. And having three hydras on your side will be good in the long run. And she never gets into the fights anyway, so it's not like they'll be following her right into the thick of the fight."

Adran shook his head, "Yeah, but they'll probably be following us. And if her 'babies' get killed on my watch I'm sleeping on the couch for a month."

"Oh, I'm not the one that's gonna get them killed, but I'm probably gonna get blamed for it just because I'm right behind the tanks."

"No, they're hydras she's treating like kids," Adran raised a finger to object, "If anything, they're her pets. I'm the same with Beri, so I understand what she's doing, but she's doing it in a way that's probably gonna cause nothing but problems in general.

"So, why are you telling me and not her?" Niudisa stopped her etching to look the sleigh ring over, double checking her work.

"Because you asked and I can only have one conversation at a time," Adran shook his head, "I'll talk to her tonight."

Jerry by now had estimated that the cooldown on the collar had elapsed, and went to go look for Asta.

"Mm. Well, the sleigh ring's done. All that's left is to test it and put it on him."

Asta had decided to take a nap, picking a spot under a tree near the springs and curling up there.

Adran nodded and called for Beri, who padded over when he heard. "She's finished your ring, you sure this is what you want?" The leopard nodded.

"I was born with white fur, I intend to see the next world with white fur." Beri sat on his haunches, "I need to die and be reborn for this, don't I?"

-----------

"Asta?", Jerry knelt down and gently shook Asta's shoulder to wake him, "Time to wake up."

"Apparently, yeah. How that happens is up to you two, but I don't have a number of methods, and I'm sure a few of them are quick and painless."

----------

Asta curled up tighter for a moment before stretching out his front legs as he yawned. He blinked his eyes open and looked up at Jerry. "Hm?"

"I am not afraid of pain, fairy," Beri rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, well I am, so that's why I'm doing this," Adran picked up one of his daggers and brought it down at the base of Beri's skull, severing his spinal cord. The leopard fell limp, paralyzed, before Adran put a bubble around him to contain the explosion and the cub reappeared. "Base of the spine, cut off his nerves and he can't feel anything, organs stop working, quick and painless."

----------

Jerry smiled at Asta, "Your cooldown should be up by now, right?"

Niudisa blinked. "Oh. Wow, I'm actually surprised. I didn't think you'd really do it yourself."

----------

"...ah. Right." Asta got up and stretched properly before shaking himself off. He reached up to the collar before realizing he couldn't really mess with it when he had paws.

Adran shrugged as he picked up the cub, "Beri matters to me more than this entire party, if it'll help him stay sane I'll do just about anything." He held up the cub, "He's about four months short of where the ring would first be put on him, but I think that's fine for our purposes." He held up Beri for the ring to be put around his neck.

---------

"Here," Jerry knelt down to turn the dial and polymorph Asta into a human again. "Come on, Erina's waiting," she smiled at Asta, taking his hand to lead him towards the loom.

Niudisa nodded and grabbed the ring, doing her best to lift it as she fluttered off the table.

----------

Asta nodded as he stood up, walking along with Jerry.

Erina was at her loom still, putting the finishing touches on Shuffle's armor-dress and trying to not get too distracted with her hydras.

The ring was heavy for Niudisa's size, but manageable, and once it was around Beri's neck it looked cartoonishly large for the cub. "Alrighty," Adran stood up, "You're going in the water, cat."

-----------

"Erina, this is Asta- that is a big snake." One of the hydras was crawling up the pile of stored silk to get a better look at the new people that came over.

Niudisa let out a breath and sat back down on her table. "Good luck. Try not to get scratched."

----------

Erina glanced over before looking at the hydra. "Ah, yes. The eggs hatched a little while ago."

"Armor ring," Adran shrugged and walked with the cub towards the water, "Don't wait on me."

--------------

Jerry frowned, that was cutting it close to when the dragon turtle egg was supposed to hatch. "Well, this is Asta," she gestured to the bear of a man next to her, "Ready to measure him?"

"I won't." Niudisa stayed seated for a bit longer before getting up to get back to her notes.

----------

Niudisa looked over at Asta and smiled. "Oh, of course." She spun a length of thread and walked over. "Just hold still and lift your arms."

Jerry also smiled and sat down near the workstation to watch. "How long do you think it'll take to finish the clothes?" She was specifically referring to herself and Asta, for the date tomorrow, but in general they needed a timeframe for the entire party.

"Ah, it shouldn't be too much longer. Most of it is just finishing touches, and the rest is making pants." Erina took Asta's measurements as she spoke. Asta felt like she was a little closer than necessary, but he knew nothing of this sort of thing, so he didn't mention it.
