Fantasy Cursed Island

Lyak nodded, "Of course, I'm not evil. But I don't think she's smart enough to read the entire book before she starts playing around."

“I should hope she is. It’s been her thinking that’s gotten us this far. And it’ll likely be her thinking that gets us to the end.”

The day passed as everyone worked their separate projects. Niudisa and her enchantments, Erina and her weaving, Emil and Veo finished what they were doing and retreated to re-assemble the tent they'd made a mess of earlier. Jerry and her crimes against nature progressed much slower than she anticipated, requiring she copy Shuffle's Maker's runework to keep the materials from rotting while she worked. That didn't do anything for the smell, but that shouldn't hopefully be a problem. She was working on a smaller table for that reason, so it wouldn't stink up her work desk.

When Adran and Co returned to the forge at the end of the day, they came bearing not a raft, that remained outside, but they did bring in some more hides to supplement Thoradin's work. "There you go." The elf smiled at the dwarf and returned to the table area to conjure fresh food for dinner, and then going to clean up. If the group wasn't already de-sensitized to the smell of unwashed bodies by now, Adran and Co could have gagged a maggot.

"Headcount, what's everyone been up to?", Adran asked, "Jerry?"

"Frankensteining Urodor back to life."

"Neat, Niudisa?"

“Enchanting. Most of my time has been spent figuring out the acid resistance part of it, but I did get a couple rings enchanted. I wanted to go for acid immunity, but that stuff is powerful. It won’t dissolve you right away, but you don’t wanna linger in it.”

“Making sheets of fabric. I need to dye it before I can really make the clothes, and for that I’ll need to step out of the forge. I’ll either need a bodyguard, or I’ll need the grove to be safe.”

"We'll be able to knock that out once Jerry's given Urodor a mouth again," Adran nodded, "Where's Nyah and the kids?"

Erina glanced around. “Running around with Asta, somewhere.”

As if on cue, Shuffle ran past with Asta chasing after her. Fia flew along after them.

"At least they're happy," Adran nodded, then did a double-take. "Asta! Don't kill her! Shit-"

"They're just playing," Jerry shrugged, "I convinced him to try and develop a personality, this is what he's doing." Veo smiled at that and nudged Erina, winking at the arachne.

Erina looked over and returned the smile.

Shuffle soon skidded to a stop before jumping over Asta and running the other way. Asta likewise has to skid as he changed direction and kept after her.

"Well," Adran didn't sound too convinced, but he had other priorities, "Dinner's on the table, eat before it gets cold."

Shuffle heard the dinner call, and just caught the smell, and skidded to a stop again. Asta slammed into her back and they both tumbled forward. Shuffle quickly scrambled out of it and ran to get food. Asta got up a bit after and followed more slowly, a little disoriented. “I win...?”

"Yes, you won," Jerry tried not to laugh as she walked over to make sure the chimera hadn't hurt himself somehow doing that. "You hungry?"

"Good," Jerry headed over to the table to fill a plate for herself and for Asta.

"Niudisa," Veo spoke up once everyone had sat down. "Emil and I were doing laundry earlier, and we realized something." She explained that they might not have a chance to sit down and go through laundry again once they left the forge, so did the fairy think it was possible to make something that could perform that chore quickly?

Niudisa looked over at her, considering that as she chewed. “Hm.... That depends. What exactly is required for the stuff to get cleaned?”

"Well," Veo considered that, "Hot water, ideally some kind of soap, a washboard, a drying line-"

"I think she means what the doohickey would need to do," Jerry offered.

"Oh, scrubbing out filth with water and, preferably, soap, drying, and ironing."

“Hm... That’s a lot of different motions involved. A thrall would be most capable of doing all of that, but it wouldn’t be any faster than you.” She ate some more as she thought about it. “Hm... I could put some runes on a rock to make it go spastic when wet. That might count for scrubbing, but I can’t guarantee the quality. I also can’t promise you’d be able to catch it while it’s still wet.”

"Hmm," Adran thought about that. "I can think of a couple ways you could produce a cleaning agent and an abrasive scrubber, but drying and folding is trickier." He scratched his chin, "A barrel on a bearing, like a water wheel, might satisfy that end, but that's tricky. I could bind an imp to it that would do the folding, too, as long as it didn't decide to piss on your clothes first." After a moment, his eyes lit up, "We could do something to a container to suck out the water once it the crazy rock finished its job." That would take a delicate balance of magicks to work, it wouldn't be anywhere near as easy to produce as inlaying enchantments into rings and bracelets.

"I do not know what you want," Joanne interjected, "But if washing my linens means putting demon urine on, I would rather wash my clothes manually."

Niudisa nodded. “Yeah, let’s pass on the imp. Folding might have to be manual. It’s too precise to be automated. The rest of it, we can probably manage, with some work.”

Adran shrugged, "Imps aren't all assholes," he muttered. Shaking his head and back to the conversation.

"When Jerry's undergarments fastened themselves," Joanne offered, "It removed and folded Jerry's clothing."

"Yeah, but that's a rejection effect, not a maintenance one," Jerry shook her head, "When thing is here, put thing elsewhere in a neat manner."

"Isn't that exactly what we're after, though?", Veo asked, "Take the thing out of the barrel, fold it, and leave it to be collected."

Niudisa rubbed her chin. “Hm... I’ll have to study those garments again, but I might be able to get that effect like with the fire armor enchantment. Perhaps put it on something under the barrel. When the barrel finishes, it drops the dried clothes onto the thing, which then rejects them and nearly places them elsewhere.”
