Astrid smirked titling her head back against chest “ I don’t know he looked an awful lot like you. Do you have a twin brother I don’t know about?” She teased playfully. She couldn’t help but relax in his arms happily his attention was havenly

He smirked, casting a glance at her. “Hmm, if I did he’s real good at hide and seek” He chuckled, before turning his head and placing a small kiss on her cheek, keeping her wrapped up tight in his embrace. He could stay like this forever.

Astrid smirked “ I’ll have to keep an eye out for him. But we should probably get back it’s getting late.” She intertwined their fingers and pulled out of his hug as she started back towards their home

He knew she was right, the sun had finally set and the sky was darkening. He whined as she pulled away, but was more than happy to keep their fingers intertwined. “What you like for supper love? Julianne had pulled steak out but we have other options” He wanted Astrid to feel comfortable, and he was more than happy to let her plan the weekly meals. He didn’t really care, he enjoyed all of it. Although he could live without the fish that they caught from the lake that the river dumped into.

Astrid smirked “oh I’m not going anywhere Kain.” She rubbed her thumb on the back of his hand but hummed walking beside him “steak sounds lovely. I can get Julianne a list of the things I’d like so she can plan accordingly.” She walked through his territory just smiling softly as they headed back inside

He let out a low rumble as he smiled at her. “I’m sure she’d love to work with you in that. You can plan meals with if you’d like.” He stopped walking, they were still relatively far from the castle but something was wrong. The air had stilled, no bird song was in the air either. He heard a whoosh sound before a rock flew through the air aimed at his head. His hand flew up and grabbed the rock that would have landed square in his temple that may not have killed but definitely would’ve stunned him. “Stay behind me” He said, covering her before two vampires stepped out of the bushes. Jace and Petra, two vampires who were severely loyal to his parents. He’d watched them leave yesterday but they must’ve stayed in the territory. “You are a disgrace to this clan, you don’t deserve that crown or the mutt” Jace snapped, his platinum blond hair shining as the moon slowly began to rise higher.

Astrid narrowed her eyes just a few seconds after he stopped but startled at the rock flying through the air. She stepped behind him but growled lowly before shifting in her wolf, her tan coat shining in the moonlight. She was far more capable of fighting off a vampire in her wolf form that as a human as she bared her fangs at his mutt comment. She watched the two of them shifting her weight defensively

Kain shifted his weight as he watched the two before Petra moved towards Astrid while Jace lunged at Kain. As much as he didn’t like it, he knew Astrid could hold her own with Petra. He lunged at Jace, forcing the vampire to stumble back at the collision between the two. “You should’ve left” Kain snarled, throwing a punch that landed square on Jace’s cheek. “You don’t deserve the crown” Jace snapped back, he swung his leg to connect it with Kain’s abdomen sending the king to the ground.

Astrid lunged the same time as Petra went for her causing them to collided in mid air, landing hard as they rolled in a mass of claw and fang. Snapping at the vampire’s neck as they went, her fangs closing down around her arm as she shook hearing the tell tale snap before scrambled back out of her reach. Her attention temporarily snapped to Kain when he went to the ground baring her fangs at Jace, still dripping in blood

Kain went to get up off the ground when Jace’s foot slammed into his stomach. He felt the rush of air leave his mouth. slam another kick, this one send him rolling. Kain spat out some blood before finally standing up. He snarled and leaped forward, landing on Jace and pinned the man to the ground. Jace ignored the wolf as he used his telekinesis to bring a sharp stick and slammed it into Kain’s thigh. The king roared in pain, loosening his grip enough so that Jace could flip them, Kain on his back and the stick was driven in deeper. He struggled, gnashing his teeth at the man. whoosh an ax swung through the air and Jace was no longer an issue. “Need some help old friend?” “Eric?”

Astrid snarled about to lunge for Jace when he sent Kain rolling until she felt Petra’s claws sink into the back of her leg, dragging her backwards. A yelp of pain escaped but she spun and tore into her before she even had a chance to react. Her attention snapping back to Kain and Jace about to lunge again until an axe came out of nowhere. She growled lowly until she saw Eric step from the brush and her ears perked up.

She licked the blood from her muzzle though her whole chest was covered as she limped slightly to Kain. A small whine rumbled in her chest as she saw the stake drive into his leg.

As Kain shifted, he felt the wood drive deeper. He heard the whine from Astrid and released a rumble in response. “I might need some help standing” He got out from between clenched teeth. Eric helped him up, but every movement made Kain wince and a few gasps of pain escaped him. “Astrid…” He whispered, seeing her limp. He knew most of the blood wasn’t hers. “Let’s get you two to the healers hut. You are in no shape to heal yourself” Eric said, allowing Kain to lean on him. “Can you shift my queen or are you okay to walk like that?” Eric turned his head towards Astrid, concern on his face.

Astrid watched the two bodies with pinned ears as if making sure they were truly gone while Eric helped him up. She looked up at him dipping her head, while it was extremely painful as a wolf she at least had 3 only legs to balance on unlike human form. As if in response she started walking though it was a decently substantial limp.

Kain leaned on Eric rather heavily but he made him slow down so he could keep an eye on Astrid. He released a low whine seeing her limping so bad. Then he felt himself sag, the blood flow coming out from the stick had increased due to the movement. He could feel himself getting weaker. A creature that lived off blood, with blood loss? He wasn’t sure they’d make it to the healers unless he got more. There was no blood around here, no animals were around and vampires can’t feed on other vampires. He stumbled on a rock and let out a hiss of pain, Eric catching him at the last second as he tried to increase the pace.

Astrid’s limp was worsening the further they were traveling but she held in her pain whines just traveling in silence. Her hip and leg were bleeding at a decent rate but she was clearly far better off than him. She pinned her ears though when he stumbled hissing in pain whining seeing him struggling more. She limped quicker up to him and nosed his hand but her ears were flicking as she seemed to be looking for prey or something

Kain felt her nose on his hand and released a pained chuckle. He saw the healers hut in the distance finally but he felt so lightheaded. “I’m ok. We’re almost there” He whispered, his voice soft. He could see that she was looking for prey, but thanks to Eric’s sped up walking, they’d covered a fair amount of distance considering their states. When they reached the hut, two vampires came out. Laila and Sara, the two healers. Eric explained the situation to them and handed Kain to Laila while Sara looked at Astrid.

Astrid was clearly frustrated that for once she wasn’t able to find prey nearby when she needed to but saw the hut and perked up. She had slowed though breathing heavily, the heavy limp having taken a lot out of her energy wise. She limped inside and just lay down tiredly letting Sara do as she needed but watched Kain closely

Kain was helped in laying down on the bed. Laila grabbed an iv with blood and set that up in his vein. He closed his eyes as she healed his fractured ribs and internal issues. Then came the leg. He let out a gasp of pain as Laila grasped it and pulled gently, trying to reduce the damage. As it popped out, Kain let out a growl of pain. “I’m sorry my king” Laila said, placing some moss on the wound to help stop the flow. The flow slowed down long enough for Laila to pull it away and begin healing the wound. Kain clenched his teeth as the muscle reknitted, the ligaments connected and the skin healed. All that was left was a small scar. The pain was gone, now he was just sore.

Astrid lay there but pinned her ears with a pained growl when Sara began working on her leg but settled as the pain began to wear away. She truly hated the feeling of the muscles knotting back together but allowed her to work. She flicked her ears once she’d finished padding over to Kain. She gently jumped up on the bed, careful not to move him any as she rested her head on his chest purring softly

Kain let out a tired sigh. He felt Astrid jump up onto the bed and his body relaxed immediately as her head laid down onto his chest. He rumbled back to her, his hand finding its way to run through her fur as his eyes closed. “You two are free to spend the night here.” Laila, Sara and Eric all bowed as they left the hut to the two.

Astrid just relaxed closing her eyes a soft purr rumbled in her chest as he ran his fingers through her fur. She just settled down curling up continuing to rest her head on his chest just flicking an ear at the three of them. She was soon lulled into a light sleep but continued waking to check on him

The next time Kain opened his eyes, the sun was filtering into the room. He realized that the IV bag had been removed at some point last night. The weight on his chest was familiar and his soreness was all but gone. His clothes were dirty and bloody and Astrid’s fur was still stained red. She could wash up in the river if she wanted so her wolf was clean.

Astrid had finally fallen into a heavy sleep when his breathing had evened out during the night. It was pretty clear she’d spent most of the night awake at least at times watching him. She slowly began stirring though as the sun shinned on them just contently snuggled up more though at the warmth before finally opening her eyes

Kain resumed running his fingers through her fur noticing she was awake. “I think we need to go clean up” he joked, he felt sticky and kind of gross if he was being honest. But he was still comfortable with the girl he wants to be with curled up by him.

Astrid just flicked an ear continuing to just rest her head on his chest enjoying him running is fingers through her hair. Her tan fur through was covered in blood and the last thing she needed to do was walk through his clan like that.
