Kain sighed, removing his fingers and slowly eased himself out from under Astrid’s head. He stood up and stretched, the muscles were still a little sore but he felt much better overall. “Hey, race you to the river?” He asked Astrid.

Astrid flicked an ear tilting her head not sure he was okay enough to be racing around. She nosed his side making sure he didn’t react before jumping off the bed and headed to the door to wait for him.

Kain looked at her and noticed the head tilt. “I’m fine” he insisted following her to the door. He stepped outside before looking at her. “Ready, set, go!” He counted down before taking off through the forest. It was a straight shot to the river from the hut. He could feel the muscles burn in his leg but it wasn’t incredibly annoying. He looked back and didn’t see the root, which he caught with his foot and slammed into the ground. He huffed before getting to his feet.

Astrid crouched down waiting for his signal before bolting, shortly behind him but jumped out of his way when he tripped not paying attention. She bolted past him skidding to a stop at the river’s edge with an excited purr. She’d won, while it was due to him tripping she still technically won. She just playfully jumped into the water waiting for him

Kain let out a playful growl before racing the rest of the way before leaping into the river. He popped his head up and splashed water at Astrid playfully, enjoying the water. He took a moment to use his hands to clean off the blood from his clothes and skin.

Astrid just shook sending water everywhere but got herself clean pretty easily. She dove under and shifted popping back up as a human with a smirk “I won.”

Kain smiled at her before rolling his eyes. He lunged forward wrapping his arms around her. “You won this time” He chuckled playfully. “Next time I won’t be so easy to beat” Kain added, before moving away and splashing her with another round of water.

Kain smirked, shaking off the water before a head rush got him. He stumbled in place before he realized it was because he was hungry. The IV bag of blood replaced what he’d lost, but they never had dinner last night. “As much as I’d like to continue this water battle where I will clearly win…” he smirked at that before continuing “we should probably get some breakfast love” he would’ve rather continued their water war but no one wanted to drag a passed out vampire from a river.

Astrid snorted playfully “oh sure you would.” She climbed out of the river now completely clean but her stomach seemed to growl as if on cue. She nodded “ya.. I’m hungry too.” She took his hand and headed towards the dinning hall, drying off by then and sat in her chair

He rolled his eyes as he walked beside her. "I would if you wanna drag a passed out vampire from the river love" He said, his normally high temperature helping dry him off as they made it into the dining hall. "Good morning Julianne" He greeted the cook who smiled, setting down plates of pancakes, waffles and eggs. "Good morning sir" She said, dipping her head in respect. She set down a stein of blood at each seat except for Astrid who got water again. Lily and Eric arrived a few moments later. "How are you two doing this morning? I had a couple vampires track down the one that lived yesterday and took care of her" Eric asked, settling beside Kain. "I'm doing much better, though I will have to change before I do anything else today. These clothes are a little stained" He joked before turning serious, taking a drink from the stein. "I appreciate the help yesterday Eric, I'm not sure I'd still be standing here. Jace knew what he was doing jamming that wood into my thigh if I'm being honest" Kain said.

Astrid smirked with a playful grin “I’d just have had Eric come get you.” She immediately perked up though when they entered the dinning hall and spotted the pancakes starting to make herself a plate with a grin. She looked up at Julianne “would it be possible to have some orange juice or milk on some mornings?” While she was grateful for the water it was a little plain with breakfast. Her mood seemed to sour for a moment when Kain spoke about not being okay without eric

He heard her reply to his comment about dragging a passed out vampire and smirked. He felt her mood change for a moment while he was speaking to Eric though. He placed a hand on her arm and rumbled. "I wouldn't be here without you either love please don't take my words wrong" He said, thinking on how he'd thanked Eric and how it may have come across.

Astrid looked up at him but grumbled “It was more the not being okay.” She just took her attention back to her food not looking at him. She’d just gotten her mate and for him to be so calm about saying if Eric hadn’t shown up he wouldn’t have been okay was scary b

Kain removed his hand, not sure how to proceed. Julianne returned with a stein of fresh pressed orange juice before noticing the atmosphere. Eric and Lily were suddenly very interested in their food. Julianne set the OJ down near Astrid before retreating into the kitchen. Kain ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident in the sigh. What he wanted to say, he didn't want to in front of others. All he wanted to do was lay on the bed, her in his side and explain that he was anything but calm in his emotions but as ruler he had to remain that way with his subjects. He had been terrified that he'd lose everything he'd just fought for and he'd lose the potential future they could have.

Astrid just flinched slightly at his clearly frustrated sigh thinking it was directed at her and just decided to remain silent. She dipped her head to Julianne in thanks and finished her breakfast. She looked at Kain “I’m just going to head back to our room and shower..” she didn’t know all of the technical ins and outs of being a royal and everything that happened in the last day had been a lot.

She just stood and dipped her head to the others before leaving. It was a pretty easy route to their room and she made it without issue just digging through the drawers to find an outfit and headed into the bathroom. She closed the door and ended up taking a long hot shower just letting all the emotions process. They were still in the bonding phase of their mate ship and everything was heightened so hearing him say without Eric intervening he may not have been able to best Jace had terrified her.

Kain downed his stein and sighed heavily. He felt better, but now he had to repair what he’d just broken. He saw the flinch and sighed. His emotions were out of control at the moment and he finished the food he’d put on his plate. Excusing himself, he dipped his head before making his way to the second floor. Going down the hall, he entered the training gym. He shed the tee shirt he was wearing since he preferred not to make it any more nasty with sweat. He growled and threw a punch at the punching bag, then another and another. He pretended the bag was Jace, was his father, was himself.

“I always manage to mess things up!” He snarled, throwing another punch. His soul wanted to go to Astrid, to explain but his body needed to vent out the anger and frustration he feels at himself. He had fought Jace a few times before yesterday and it always ended the same way, Kain pinned on the mat with the male above him. He clenched his teeth and kicked around at the bag.

Astrid stepped out of the shower and got dressed, braiding her hair and opened the doors to the bedroom expecting to see Kain “Kain I’m…” she just whined though when the room was empty. Of course she’d made him mad enough he didn’t want to deal with her, she had just shown her emotion, his injuries had truly scared her. She just shifted and climbed on the bed curling up in a small ball, only her ears fully visible now she burried in the blankets and drifted in to a restless sleep

He sighed, wiping his brow of sweat. He grabbed his shirt and tossed it over his shoulder. He’d finally worked all the anger out and now he was just tired. He stepped out of the gym and headed up to their room. He opened the door slowly, and stepped in. He saw a form buried in the blankets and sighed softly. He grabbed a pair of pajama pants and a shirt before going into the bathroom. He showered quickly, thoroughly cleaning all the blood and sweat off himself.

He got out of the shower, dried off and changed into his comfortable clothes. Stepping out, he laid on the couch, resting his head on the arm of the couch. He didn’t want to disturb his sleeping mate by crawling into bed. Kain wanted to keep all his limbs for a little longer.

Astrid was sleeping but had begun shifting occasionally as a few soft whimpers escaped, she was clearly having a bad dream and deep into it. She stirred though it only seemed to through her deeper into the fit before seeming to fall into a deeper sleep and temporarily settling.

Kain hadn’t gotten truly settled when he heard whimpers from the bed. Loss of limbs or not, his mate needed him. He got up from the couch and walked over to the bed. Silently, he sat down near her head/back. Hopefully being so close to her head, she’d scent him first. He lifted his legs and settled them on the bed before leaning on the pillows. He gently began running a hand through her fur hoping to calm her down. He let out a long rumble as well and cast an increase of his scent as well.

Astrid seemed to slowly begin to settle back into a deeper sleep as she shifted over, curling into his side tightly. A few hours later she slowly began to wake uncurling her body, laying sprawled out lazily but purred at the Smokey lavender scent that had enveloped her.

Kain had fallen asleep rather quickly himself. The warmth and scent of his mate wrapped around him. He woke up a few hours later to find he’d switched to laying on his back, his limbs starfished. He noticed that Astrid had sprawled out and reached a hand out to run through her fur. It was very calming to him. He let out a low rumble purr in response to the one he heard from her.

Astrid slowly opened her eyes but just shifted back into his side, her tail faintly thumping on the bed as she wagged it. She however just closed her eyes again like she wasn’t willing to admit she’d awoken like something could ruin the mood

He could tell she was awake, and even though he didn’t want to mess this beautiful moment up. The longer that they didn’t talk, the harder it would be. “I know you’re awake love. I want to talk, please.” He asked, his voice getting soft as he heard her tail wag.
