Kain was quite content with her wrapped into his arms. He felt himself fall asleep. He felt Astrid stir a few hours later and felt her shift and bury her face into his chest. He tightened his grip slightly and buried his face in her hair on top of her head, feeling himself falling asleep again. It seemed like a couple hours after that but when he opened his eyes again, it was morning and he blinked, before looking down at Astrid in his arms.​

Astrid was cuddled into his chest asleep but blinked when she opened her eyes seeing it was early daylight out. “Kain did we just sleep all day..?”

He blinked again as she woke up. "Um, I guess we did. I'm not complaining, we've had a pretty crazy past few days" He said. "Is it wrong that I don't want to move right either?" He asked, placing a kiss on the top of her head.

Jay blinked, opening her eyes to the daylight. She had fallen asleep wearing Eric's hoodie and wrapped in her blanket. She yawned, sitting up and brought a sleeve to her nose inhaling the cedar and maple. "Okay, time to see how big this really is" She said, pulling off the hoodie reluctantly before changing into a long sleeve and pants. She stepped out into the main area, spying Luca leaning against the wall near the front door. He made a small head nod to follow and she did.​

Astrid just cuddled into him tighter “we have a few hours until we’d have to.but we need to be ready for whatever the rouges try to throw at us..”

He wrapped his arms around her tighter, resting his head on hers. "Sounds good to me" He said, a rumble emitted from his throat. "I know, I hope that Jay is going to be okay. Eric wouldn't be able to handle it I don't think." He said.

Jay was led to a clearing near the border with the rest of the world. In it sat eight rogues shifted in their human forms, two more pack members and two vampires. Jaylin noticed that the two pack members were Luca's lackeys Isaac and Julius. She didn't know who the vampires or the rogues were though. "Here is our last recruit. Jaylin here is an excellent warrior, she lost her first mate to the clan. She has decided to help us keep our pack and their clan separately. Jaylin, you know Isaac and Julius. The vampires are Kira and Oliver. They were loyal to the prior king and queen and want revenge for their deaths as well as our original mission. The rogues include banished members from over the years" He explained. "Why does she smell like a vampire?" Isaac asked with a snort. "She had to keep up appearances and meet her mate to avoid suspicions." Luca said. "Anyway, we will attack at the beginning of the meeting, so everyone meet here before noon in two weeks." He finished, dismissing everyone. "In order to keep up appearances as I said, you won't be suspected if you visit him again. I understand the pull but the disgrace comes from the species not the bond." Luca was softer than Jay expected. "Besides, once he's gone, I'd be honored to be your mate" He added with a wink. She felt her brain short circuit, that was the reason he wanted her on this? Did he really think she'd want to be with him? "I will need some time Luca" He nodded and before she could stop him, he wrapped her in his arms and kissed her forehead. Oh boy. She pulled away with a half smile before moving towards the pack house. She needed to see Eric, now.​

Eric was in the gym working out hard trying to exhaust himself having gotten incredibly aggravated and antsy with Jay being gone so long.

Astrid rested her head on his chest “he’s barely tolerating it as it is now.. she’s a strong fighter and cunning I’m sure she is handling herself.”

He sighed, knowing exactly what he's going through. "I know. I'm just concerned. Eric is like a brother to me which makes Jay family too." He said, running a hand through her hair.

Jaylin walked towards the pack house before turning towards the border between the pack and the clan. Jaylin made it to the border to see a border patrol coming from one side. The man in front noticed her and motioned for her to come over. "Who are you and how can we help you?" He asked, arms crossed over his chest. "My name is Jaylin and I'm here to see Eric, I'm his mate" They exchanged looks before looking at her. "The castle is straight ahead, just tell them that Captain Browne said you were okay to enter our territory if they ask" He said, before the patrol continued on. Jaylin nodded, making her way through the forest as the castle rose up in front of her. She could still smell Luca's scent on her and it was making her nauseated. Shaking her head, she came up to the castle door and knocked on it. An older woman opened the door and looked at her. "Yes?" She asked. "I'm here to see Eric? My name is Jaylin, I'm his mate, Captain Browne said I was okay to be here" Jay explained. "Go down the hall, and up the staircase on the left, he's on the second floor, the second door down from the stairs on the left." She explained. Jaylin nodded and headed down to the staircase, taking it up to the second floor. ​

Eric immediately perked up scenting Jay step inside and headed to find her. He paused though with a whine when she was coated in another male’s scent. The excitement drained from his eyes as he stared at her “Jay…?” He wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but his scent was covering her.

Jay looked at Eric, she could see the excitement drain from his eyes and whimpered herself. "Eric" She stepped towards him, wanting to run into his arms and envelop herself in his scent. She could smell the cedar and maple from where she stood. "It's not what it seems, I promise." She took another step towards him, her eyes shiny with unshed tears. She realized now that she should've tried to disguise the scent or wash, but all she wanted was him and to get rid of the feeling of Luca's hands wrapped around her back and his mouth on her head.​

Eric had already been desperate to win her approval believing she still might choose to leave him that scenting another male on her was shattering. He was nearly visibly shaking “why.. why do you smell like him…” he whined.

Astrid frowned sitting up beside Kain, something just didn’t feel right. She blinked though when a guard knocked informing them Kay had returned

Jay could see he was shaking lightly and she whined, listening to his broken voice. "It wasn't on purpose! He, he just" She couldn't form the words. She wanted to see him, to know that there was something that she had, a lifeline so she could make through the next two weeks. Now she'd ruined everything all over again.

Kain sat up when Astrid did. He felt something off too and looked around. He heard the guard knocking with the information that Jay had returned to the castle. "I think we need to go check on them. Something isn't right here" He said, climbing out of bed and grabbed a hoodie, pulling it over his head and sliding on some shoes.​

Astrid hurried to throw on a hoodie and followed him out of the room skipping shoes. She stepped into the room seeing the two of them nearly in tears but frowned scenting Luca all over her. “Hey hey… guys let’s take a breathe… there’s gotta be a reason for this right…?”


Eric just stared at her on the verge of tears thinking she had had chosen another man and was coming to reject him. His attention turned to Astrid though.

Jay felt the tears stream down her face as she looked at him. "He, He hugged me! I didn't even know what was happening until he did it. He, He kissed my head and all I wanted was to claw him off. I ran straight here because... because" She felt her lower lip tremble as Astrid came into the room with Kain hot on her heels.

Kain followed Astrid down, seeing Jay coated in a different man's scent and both of them in tears. "Eric, calm down. Let Jay explain" He said, trying to ease the rising emotions in the room.​

Eric looked to be in a panic, he had already been mentally torturing himself that she would abandon him but being separated for days after that was the last straw. He stumbled into her when Astrid shoved him but instinctively wrapped her into a tight hug just burying his face into her neck.

Astrid shifted and shoved Eric so he had to fall into Jay, it wasn’t a great plan but someone had to get them out of their panic.

Jay had been in a near state of panic herself before she felt arms wrapping her in a tight hug. She buried her face into his chest, tears running down her face. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him back. "I. I'm sorry" She whispered into his chest. His scent flew into her nose and she let out a tired purr.

Kain watched as Astrid shifted and shoved Eric into Jay. He had to hold back the laugh that threatened to bubble out. He schooled his emotions and looked at his mate with a slightly amused glance but saw that the shove had the intended effect of pushing them out of their panicked states. ​

Eric completely encased her in a hug just pulling her tightly into his chest as he began breathing deeply against her neck. He seemed to slowly be settling and mumbled into her neck “I’m sorry for assuming the worst..”


Astrid smugly grinned proud of herself when her shove knocked them out of their fearful panic.

She smiled through her tears as she heard him. "Only you" She whispered "Never anyone else" Jay added, her tears slowing down as she felt secure and safe in the hug. She breathed in deep, enjoying as his scent and him wrapped her up. The tightness of the hug made her feel like she was wrapped in a blanket of security and she was, in the arms of her mate.

Kain rolled his eyes at his mate, gesturing for her to follow him out of the gym now that they've gotten things taken care of. "If you two want to join us, we're headed down to breakfast." He offered to them as a kind gesture but wouldn't be offended either way.​

Astrid walked out beside him “hey sometimes ya need a literal shove. It worked didn’t it?” She headed into the dinning hall and sat with a hum

Eric just held her tightly slowly sinking into the couch off to the side “I’m sorry..” he mumbled feeling guilty for making her this upset. He nodded to Kain, he was starving but needed a moment

Kain rolled his eyes at her with a smile. “I’m kind of impressed at how easily it worked.” He said with a laugh as they entered the dining hall and he sat in his seat.

Jay felt them move and sink into the couch. She whined hearing how upset he was. “I’m sorry too” She said, the nauseated scent of Luca had been quickly replaced by Eric. Then she heard her stomach growl and she began laughing lightly into his chest. “Can we eat? Then we can do this again” She didn’t want to part but her stomach let out a smaller grumble.​

Eric chuckled softly “of course.” He stood taking her hand “you’ll love Juliann.”He lead her to the dinning hall and pulled out a chair for her before sitting.

Astrid smiled softly seeing Jay “better?” She hummed

Jay smiled, taking his hand as they stood. She looked over at him. “Who is she?” Jay asked as they walked into a beautiful dining hall. Her steps slowed slightly as she took it in. She saw Kain sitting at the head of the table with Astrid beside him on his left. Eric pulled out the second chair down from Kain’s right. “Thank you” She said, sitting down on the chair. She looked over at Astrid with a smile. “Yes, thank you” She smiled. Jay looked up as Julianne stepped in. She was the woman who’d opened the door for her earlier.

Kain watched as the pair made their way into the dining hall. They seemed like they were calmer and relaxed. “Glad to hear that” Kain said. A moment later Julianne stepped into the hall with a tray full of sausage, bacon, pancakes, waffles and scrambled eggs. She set it down before noticing Jay. “Hello there dear, I’m glad you came over.” She smiled. “I’m Julianne” She added as she swept out of the kitchen real quick and returned with two steins of blood, two empty steins and pitchers of water, lemonade and orange juice. She set the blood steins in front of Kain and Eric and the two empty ones in front of the girls.​

Eric sipped on his stein but smiled softly looking at her “if you need anything different please let us know..”

Astrid made herself a plate and looked at Jay “she’s the cook and probably the absolute sweetest person I have ever meet. You welcome to grab whatever you’d like.”

Jay looked at the cook and smiled. "This all looks delicious thank you" She put some bacon and eggs on her plate and poured some orange juice in her stein. "It's really nice to meet you Julianne." She added before taking a bite of her eggs. Julianne flushed at Astrid's words before dismissing herself to attend to the kitchen. Jay heard Kain's question and nodded. She'd wanted to talk to them and it was like he could tell.

Kain had grabbed a couple pancakes but had started with drinking from the stein before taking a bite from the pancake. He sensed that Jay wanted to say something, but it was probably better if they were somewhere private like his fathers no his office. "Jay, do you mind joining us in my office after breakfast?" He asked her after making sure she wasn't taking a bite.​

Astrid looked at her quietly with a smile "I can't wait till you can stay here. It will be nice having someone other then these two all the time."

Eric looked up at Kain curiously but kept his questions to himself not wanting to ruin a perfectly good moment. He finished his plate and sat back "is there anything you need Jay?"

Jay couldn't help the giggle that bubbled out of her mouth at Astrid's words. "I can only imagine having just two males around. I can't wait to come here" She said, looking over at Eric. "I'm all set, I promise" She told him, smiling at him. She had finished the food on her plate and the juice in her stein.

Kain finished his food and looked over at Astrid. "Are you that unhappy being in one castle with me and Eric?" He asked, holding his chest in mock hurt, eyes twinkling with mischief.​
