Manjano heard movement near him and glanced up to see Laohu sitting down across from him.

Raising an eyebrow at the white tiger, Manjano then left his spoon on the side of his plate, tired of struggling to simply eat some chili even though his stomach still felt like it was trying to eat itself.

Hoping the tiger wasn't expecting any verbal communication, Manjano simply waited for him to say something.

Was Laohu going to make a mockery of him or actually try to help? Based on the tiger's amused expression, Manjano felt like the former was more likely.

Hearing the others still conversing around him, Manjano wondered how everyone was so relaxed and ready to have fun so shortly after their previous mission. Maybe Manjano was just taking things harder than most...but still.

To top everything off, nobody had really visited him or Falarion, at least, not as far as he could tell. He hadn't woken up to anyone at his side. Not that he'd been expecting Leandra to be there or anything since their relationship had been strained for a while, but he had been expecting Beth to be there. Maybe she knew he'd be okay?

Deciding to not look for her right now, Manjano returned his focus to Laohu.

Jimbo leaned back in his chair and placed his big arms behind his head and listened to the others talk about their home lives. Zoe's sounded a bit more normal with parents trying to condition their child into the best she could be. A bit on the strict side, the sound of her parents doting on her sister was a bit interesting. All the kids in his family had been treated equally, even the one that wasn't even the same species. He got punishments just like Simon or any of the others did. He winced at the thought of the times when Pop's would discipline him and Simon with his belt for getting into trouble.

As Jimbo sat there reminiscing about Pop's, he got the creeping sensation of a presence that he had initially missed. When Laohu spoke up, he realized where it came from and Jimbo nearly jumped at the sound of the Tigers voice. He turned in his chair to keep an eye on the big cat and listened to him talk about Xiao's father. The story sounds a bit like Alec and Duik's story with Alec's father disapproving of Duik initially. Jimbo began to think of how perfect it was that the two humans had been able to foster such a connection, which he had been able to pick up back at Gigi's and the pair were dancing together.

After Laohu wandered over towards the food, Jimbo relaxed a bit more and picked up on Beth's comment about the group being family. Jimbo smiled to himself and leaned back more comfortably.

"As far as Simon and I are concerned, All of you guys are family already. One of the perks of growing up like we did, we are always ready and willing to accept others into the fold of our family. That's how it was before too, the team that went to Singapore. We were all family when the end came."

Had Simon been the one to say the last part of that statement, it probably would have held more sorrow in the words. But for Jimbo, his smile only got bigger and the tone was much more cheerful than one would imagine talking about those who had been lost. That's just how Jimbo was, he had accepted the tragedy long ago just like with Pop's.

Simon reeled in his punch quickly once he felt his gloved fist make contact with Leandra. Luckily the girl had been able to throw her arms up to help deflect the punch more than avoid it. Simon watched as she hit the ground and he fell back into a normal standing position. Simon gave her a concerned smile as he held out his hand to her once more. He was glad she had been able to block in the split second she had, but Simon could feel some of his Pop's beginning to grow inside him.

"That was a good block, you got your arms up in enough time to keep a lot of damage from hitting your more vital places like your face. But you need to keep you mind clear. Otherwise, you focus too much on something and you end up with a punch to the gut."

Simon winced at his own words. He had been taught to fight with tough love. His father would push him to the breaking point until Simon was able to accomplish his goals. Then they would start on the next challenge. Growing up he had always gotten so angry with his Pop's for pushing him so hard, but as he got older, Simon praised his father's teaching methods. It was the only way he knew how to teach.

"There are lots of ways you can help clear your mind before a fight. Deep breath, Meditation, hell I even met a man from Dubai once who would pray for focus and strength before a match. Crazy mixed martial artist kicked my ass seven ways till Sunday. Point is, focus is key to any fight. Without focus, well its like I said earlier, thousands of ideas trying to go through one tiny hole. Now, care to try again?"

Simon took a step back and readied himself once more, determined not to let Leandra give up from the first fall.

Blinking at Simon's smile at her, Leandra didn't feel too much better, as she was already chastising herself in her head. Mistakes like these are why she got that scar on her back to begin with. She couldn't afford to keep making them, especially now that she had teammates to look out for.

Sighing, Leandra took Simon's hand and stood up before rubbing the back of her neck while trying to not glare at Simon for his lecture. She knew he meant well, but she wasn't really keen on being lectured right now. It was only frustrating her.

At the mention of relaxing before a fight, Leandra merely shook her head. There was no way that remaining calm would help her. Anger and even fear had always been her main focuses through which she fought her hardest.

At the question of trying again, Leandra suddenly got an idea and cheekily grinned at Simon before readying herself as well.

Waiting until right as Simon began to throw his punch, Leandra suddenly exclaimed, "Amber's here!"

Deftly bouncing to the side while also leaning out a bit to help her dodge Simon's jab, Leandra then waited with a grin to see if Simon would trip over himself after Leandra's attempt to completely throw him off.

Beth fell silent as she ate, feeling like she had said enough for now. She set her now empty bowl to the side and crouched and checked the cookies. The sheet on the bottom, where it was warmer, was ready, so she took it out and put another sheet it.

As she waited for the second sheet to be ready, she used a small spatula to take the hot cookies off the sheet and put them on the cooking rack she had set out. Beth's hands moved with practiced ease, as if she had made cookies every day of her life. The used parchment paper went in the trash and she did another switch in the oven, putting the second dozen on the cooling rack. Beth reset the timer with a smile. She gave a nod when Bael addressed her, watching him guardedly as he babbled. He seemed pretty out of it, which made her a little nervous. Maybe after he had made his tea he would be easier company.

"Excuse me for a minute. The injured get cookies first, so grab some while theyre hot, Zoe." She said softly to Zoe and Bael, and placed four cookies on a small plate. Beth moved away, padding silently over to the corner Manjano had chosen. With a nod to Laohu, she set the plate down in front of him, and smiled brightly. "Hey grumpy pants," Beth greeted, resting a hand on his shoulder for a brief moment. "Youre looking much less close-to-death." There was a flash of guilt when she realized he probably woke up alone, but when she really thought about it, she wasnt the person that should have been there. The thoughts didnt affect her smile, though. She picked up a cookie from the plate for herself and broke it in half before taking a bite out of the gooey middle.

@DawnAntalios @Sleipnir @Lioness075 @crucialstar

Totus watched Beth as she baked, the sight a familiar comfort. She did enjoy making things, even though she didnt get much of a chance anymore. She moved with the same fluidity in the kitchen as she did out in the woods. She even interacted a little with the bear boy, before taking some cookies over the Manjano, who was struggling to eat with only one hand. He humphed, still perplexed by Beth's choice in friend, but otherwise seemed to ignore the pair.

His focus was diverted as Jimbo spoke once more. The owl was growing to like the gorilla, who seemed very grounded and practical. Totus tilted his head a little, a few questions forming, but chose to keep them to himself. Another time, maybe.

Eos looked silently at Laohu as he spoke. He was sad that the tiger had to face such tragic events in his past but it only seemed to make him stronger. He himself was lucky in this sense - when he was but a fawn he lost his parents and stumbled across the frozen forest - right when the Illien family spotted him. He remembered seeing a little girl with them - Natalie who was about 5 years old. The cheerful girl immediately wanted to shelter him and help him until he was nursed back to life - he had a happy time in the strict family since he craved knowledge as they did. But to hear Laohu's trials he was saddened - though he was certain that Xiao's father had a good reason for his behavior he knew that it must have been hard for the white tiger.

" Perhaps he wanted to shelter his daughter. " he replied " Being envied by foreign eyes just because you have an extremely rare companion is not something fathers would usually endorse, especially not if they have a daughter. I understand that it must have been frustrating at times but that is why we have our companions in the first place, no? They help us endure and live through the difficult times. "

He turned back to his chili and munched it happily. Hearing how Jimbo claimed that they were already family he smiled and nodded. He felt that this company was a safe haven from the world.

" This chili is magnificent. Though I think I will have to try the cookie as well - it must be truly spectacular if Zoe eats it so quickly... "

" THEY ARE AMAZING! " Zoe intervened as she munched on hers.

" Don't you want some warm food as well, Zoe? Eating sweets exclusively can hurt you you know. "

" Perhaps later, Bambi. " the girl said, finishing her sweet. " This is heaven I tell you, HEAVEN! "

" In this case then I can do but one thing... "

Eos quickly grabbed one of her cookies and with a mischievous grin he started to eat it, much to Zoe's dismay.

" I am just protecting you from eating too much sweets at once. It is for your own good. "

@SilverFlight @crucialstar @zCrookedz @Flutterby

Zoe frowned angrily.

" Thief! Wait for your turn! " she said grumpily, watching how Eos devoured her precious food right in front of her eyes. With despair in her voice she poked Bael to act, her voice turning into a half-serious one.

" Bael, stop him! He is desecrating the ancient rites of the cookies! He is eating it WITH chili! It is PREPOSTEROUS! "

It was then when she noticed the teapot in the boy's hands and she turned from furious to curious.

" Oh, so in that you make tea! Must be very special to you if you have gotten it from your sister! She gave me mementos as well, let me see if I could find any... "

Her search unveiled the black rose petal which she had found in the catacombs and she fell silent. The childish glee vanished from her eyes as her face turned dead serious once more. A moment of clarity was granted to her in this blurry madness of medicine side effects and she looked up, targeting Eos with her speech.

" After this meal we need to talk, Eos. Urgently. "

The old one was a bit shocked about her sudden change of tone but he nodded silently and returned to his food. Zoe put the petal away and shook her head. The strange feeling returned again and she was more lively, just as before. She looked up as Beth walked off with the cookies, her eyes following the girl as she went to Manjano. With a grin she prodded Bael.

" Hey, look at that pair! Aren't they adorable? " she said, letting out a longing sigh " Ah, the mute boy charmed the cookie-master! They are the perfect couple, I can tell you that... " she winked playfully at him " Manjano is a true man - he knows that deeds worth more than empty words! He is the ideal partner... I guess. "

She leaned against her chair, stretching and picking up yet an another cookie.

" Boy, do I wish to have someone in my life too! My sis had a fiance already when she disappeared... the poor lad must have been heartbroken... "

Alec looked down at Xiao kindly, closing his eyes as she brushed his scruffy hair out of his eyes. "Thanks...I haven't been able to count on anyone but Duik for while...feels pretty good." He knew he could count on the other members of the team, but Xiao was becoming increasingly different. He had never spoken about his mother to anyone but Duik...Duik and...he forced that memory back. It wasn't a good one.

She mentioned the two animals and Alec nodded in agreement. "I like your tiger. He's got a good head on his shoulders...and I'm glad you could stand my singing. Just don't ask me to do an excerpt from 'Carmen' or anything."

He pulled off his lab coat and hung it up just as Xiao bombarded him with questions. He turned to her and couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm.

Alec puffed his chest in a mock-serious posture. He answered each one in order, counting on his fingers to keep track: "Yes no no, I did a patch job on it before you came in and only if I do jumping jacks...and the last: I definitely do not want to leave your company." He winced in sympathy as she stretched her back a little too far.

"Aaaand you might actually need me if you're going to keep doing that."

Taking off his rounded spectacles and placing the on the desk he went to hold the door open for her.

"Let's head down to the cafeteria. If I know my hyena, he'll already be nose deep in a bowl, one way or the other."

@crucialstar

Duik's eyes lit up as Beth called him family. "Oh my god I have a sister!" He squeaked. Leaning into her thigh as he put his paws on her toes.

Then Jimbo spoke too, adding to his joy. Duik rushed over and gave the gorilla a hug, standing on his hind legs to try and fit his forelegs around Jimbo's wide chest. He didn't make it half way around.

"Dude! Now we can all play basketball! And I might actually win!" To be fair Duik had learned to steal the ball pretty well, it was bouncing it high enough to get it into the darned basket.

"You know, Alec showed me this old movie, Airbud? It was about a golden retriever who could play basketball by bounding the thing off his nose and into the basket, when I try it, I just hurt my teeth." Clearly Alec didn't have the heart to tell him the movie was likely staged.

Duik suddenly smelled the chili again and was reminded how hungry he was. He trotted over to the large pot, the ladle just visible from his vantage point on the ground.

"Ok, this won't be like last time. No it won't D." He reared up onto his hind legs and stretched a forepaw out to open the cupboard. Clasping a bowl delicately in his front teeth he managed to lower it onto the counter without dropping it..much. Next came the chili. Grabbing the ladle in his teeth he maneuvered it gingerly right over the bowl and dumped the contents into it. Chili sloshed over the counter, he had to repeat the process several more times to fill the bowl but eventually it was full, and with only a few drops actually hitting the floor.

He glared at the full bowl and then over to the tables just a few meters away. "Yeah...we probably don't want a chili-brick road through kitchen-land so...um, could I get some help putting this on the table...please?" He put on his best puppy face as he grinned at them all.

Calista nodded. "I don't remember anything from before I was bonded. Nice to know there is still some hope left out there."

The little civet turned back to her companion and said in a soft tone; "I'm going to see if I can't rustle up some staff to get you a proper meal." She jumped off the bed and headed for the door, almost out it before she turned and added in a mocking tone: "Don't go anywhere."

"Up yours Cali." Amber shot back with a smile.

Calista turned to go. "Come on Fire feathers, let's see how much trouble our team's gotten into without us."

@Lioness075

Luness smiled gently at Calista, pleased to hear the optimistic response, as opposed to the civet picking up more on the negative bit of humans always doing something terrible.

At the mention of food, Luness almost immediately began salivating. When was the last time she'd had a proper meal?

Uncertain, but determined to eat, Luness was about fly after Calista, but paused when Calista and Amber went back and forth at each other.

Smiling at the two, Luness then said, "Well, it's nice to hear you two bickering like children."

Unsure if that was the norm for the two, as she'd barely gotten to the two together for too long before Amber had been kidnapped, Luness left it at that before flying after Calista.

"If I know this team as well as I think I already do, then they've most likely already gotten into some kind of trouble or are just about to start some trouble."

@SilverFlight

Jimbo smiled as he watched Zoe and Eos go back and forth with each other. The way Zoe was acting finally made sense to him, drugs for injuries would most certainly put someone out of their normal state. Though, this new side of Zoe seemed to be much more relaxed and open to the group and felt a bit more comfortable than her normal attitude of proper speech and mannerism.

Suddenly the air rushed out of him slightly as Duik leaped at him at the mention of him calling the group family. Jimbo smirked at the hyena and patted him on the head before he headed off towards the chili. He was impressed with Duik's handling of the ladle, very skillfully for one without thumbs. But when he mentioned the "chili brick road" Jimbo couldn't help but chuckle to himself and rise from his seat to help him out. Jimbo lumbered over to the bowl and lifted it for him and the brought it back to a table in front of a booth so he could get to it easier.

"There ya go giggles. Now then...."

Jimbo stood up on his back legs and swiveled his head back towards the counter. Smiling he walked over and gaped 2 cookies off the cooling pan and the made his way back to the booth with Duik. He sat down with his back to the wall so he could continue to converse with the others as he tossed the first cookie into his mouth. After a moment of chewing, Jimbo closed his eyes and smiled.

"Beth, your cookies remind me of home. If I didn't know any better I would swear Mom made these."

Jimbo continued to smile as he tucked the second cookie in a napkin, saving it for Simon when he decided to show back up.

Once Leandra had returned to her stance and he had given her a moment to prepare herself, Simon released his breath and drew in another to steady himself. Same as before, he pivoted on his leg and torso as he flung his dominant fist forward. This time, however, Leandra's outburst caught him completely off guard. Simon's stomach clenched up and he lost all concentration on the punch as he lifted his chin to look at Amber as Leandra had exclaimed.

His fist continued to move forward along with the rest of his body, and the lack of attention did not register that Leandra had moved out of the way completely. Simon first lost his balance on his back leg, then the forward leg, and finally his entire body continued to go forward as his arms flailed about a bit comically. His face hit the mat underneath and his body more or less became a yoga pose for a second until he was laying flat on his front letting what had just happened sink in.

After a second, Simon moved his arms to lift him off the ground and pushed himself up. He looked over at Leandra, his face red and stomach at being tricked into falling on it until finally his smile crept over and he began to laugh good and hard. He flipped over onto his backside and sat there on the mat laughing and wiping tears away.

"That.....was masterfully done Leandra. Oh god, that was good. Haha, you most certainly knew where to strike to make me lose my concentration."

Ash looked around the kitchen and was quiet as he ate, averagely he was one for big crowds after all the more the merrier! However, from what he was gathering they were starting to get into each others more personal life. Now that was a more sensitive topic for the man, he loved to show off his brothers to anyone that would care. However one thing he didn't want was for the conversation to steer to the adults of his family, certainly he cared for his mother but he didn't love her like the average child would, and his father. Closing his eyes for a moment he turned his gaze to Fie and what he saw made him sweat drop. "Fie... You may want to stop eating..." He said not actually moving from his spot to help the monkey out.

Fie looked up at Ash confused as he had one spoon in his mouth while the other was in the almost empty bowl of chili. "Why?" He asked before he noticed something was now wrapping around his body. He had been so focused on his food he hadn't noticed the snake till just now. Slowly he looked up slightly wide eyed and was silent. The spoon in his mouth fell to the counter and then the floor with a clatter before he gulped and pointed at Ash. "H-H-He taste b-b-b-b-better." Fie stuttered out making Ash sigh and shake his head. "Thanks buddy, I won't forget that one." "I-I'm not good, r-really this one time a panther ate me and spat me back up and he had a tummy ache for an hour!" "This is actually true." "S-See!?" the monkey said as he placed his hands on the snakes tail now trying to get it away from his body so he could escape. "H-How about some chili or gummy worms? I know where Ash keeps a supply of chocolate which taste really good! Don't eat me!!" Fie shouted as he squirmed.

Ash sat back and just watched. "I should stop her....and help, but, meh. He offered me up, so since my feelings have been ever so hurt. I'm going to watch."

Laohu watched Manjano's movement precisely and carefully. Some may consider the tiger a bit intimidating since he was literally watching Manjanm's every move, from the frustration in the male's eyes to the mixed emotions that seemed to be swirling inside him. As Laohu looked into the male's eyes, his actions, and postures, it told him more than he could ever say, or if he would say. For starters, it was obvious he was a bit irritated with his handicapped right hand due to the place, but there was something else Laohu saw within him as he gave up trying to eat the chili. Chuckling or what sounded like one for a tiger, Laohu spoke up,"Despite how it looks, you'll get the hang of it, eventually. We or I wouldn't mind if you just took the bowl and 'drink' from it." He said still slightly amused as he continued, "Well for us four legged animals, we have to stick our faces into the bowl but there's still proper etiquette to still eat from the bowl, without looking like an utter mess." Laohu said before eyeing Fie, shaking his mane as he didn't want any chili on his fur. "How's your arm?" Turning back to Manjano as he signaled towards the brace, "You handled yourself quite well, if I must say, even more than I did myself. ." Laohu spoke solemnly as he let his voice drift out, but soon enough got out of his slight daze. "Perhaps I can go and see how Fally's doing, especially being stuck in bed, can be quite boring without anything to do. Plus, everyone likes visitors." He spoke out-loud, before eyeing Manjano to see if maybe that was the reason he was put out. Laohu could assume Beth had visited him but then again he wouldn't know. It was times like these he wished Hui was with him, knowing she was more perceptive than he was. Soon, Beth arrived at the table with some cookies as he nodded in return at Beth's greeting. He sniffed the cookies as the aroma of it permeated to his nose. It smelled good but not good enough for him to want to eat it. "Or perhaps dip the cookie and chili together, sounds gross, but sometimes improvising sounds like it'll work." As he heard Beth saying he looked much better, he rose a brow, shaking his head, however, he could see a small glint of guilt leaving her eyes though her bright smile remained. From that feeling, Laohu could now assume Beth hadn't visited him. Maybe Laohu should have gone to check up on Manjano and Falarion as well before he came to the cafeteria, then again, he felt as if he knew he shouldn't have been the one he saw first when he woke up.

If he was in bed, sick, and if he opened his eyes and didn't see anyone or hear anyone visiting, he would definitely be hurt if Hui didn't show up. But, his thought was interrupted when he heard Jimbo speaking of how he and Simon saw everyone as their family now. Even hearing Duirk's excitement made Laohu warm inside. He just hoped Manjano understood that as well and attempt to open up to the them and they would gladly do so in return . Turning back to Manjano, Laohu knew he was speaking out of line and everything he just thought of was a huge assumption,
"There's no harm in joining the others. Now and then the others have come to you, but sometimes making your own effort and stepping out of your own comfort zone and making the first move, will surprise you. As Jimbo said, we are all family and are still learning about each other." He shrugged nonchalantly , "Just my opinion, thought I would share with you. But if I were to share my fears," Laohu paused and then looked between Beth and Manjnao, as he took a deep breathe, his eyes drooping slightly, "it's the fear of losing my self control and who I am to instincts, basically, becoming feral." He knew Hui knew but it was like an elephant in the room, they never talked about it, but even so, through all these life and death situation, sometimes overcoming fears and getting to know each other more can help the team's morale and support grow stronger for the next time they encounter issues. "It seems I talked too much," he chuckled, before nodding his head at both of them, "I should leave you two to it then. It was nice discussing or rather I talk and you listen, sort of thing. It's nice to know someone is listening once in a while rather than words. I believe in the phrase, 'Action speaks louder than words'." At that, he climbed off the chair as he wandered off to see Falarion, leaving Manjano and Beth to their thoughts and company. He hoped he hadn't come off strong or rather made the silent warrior hate him. He just wanted to keep him company for a while before Beth showed up, taking his attention. He wouldn't know what Manjano or Beth would think but he just hope he got his point across without sounding as if he knew the male, because he just didn't. But he knew of fear and pain. Even then, everything he said could have been wrong and he just assumed wrongly.

However, before he left the premises, he walked over to Eos, remembering his words,
"You're right , I didn't think of it as that, thank you, for the different perspective, Eos. It's nice to have other opinions and thoughts." He spoke sincerely before seeing Duirk's attempt of getting the chili before Jimbo intervened. Soon, his attention went towards the scene between Haku and Fie. So that must be what she planned, he thought as he saw the monkey struggle. He was definitely amused by the group he was with and found that he would never get bored of them. After his laugh, Laohu trotted off to find Falarion.

Manjano didn't blink when he met Laohu's gaze, seemingly unperturbed by the tiger's intense gaze and searching eyes. It actually was somewhat calming to Manjano to see the tiger taking care to read his actions. It was similar to how Beth acted around him.

Speaking of, Beth soon joined the two at the table and presented some cookies, which looked freshly baked. Had she made them?

Before he made any moves on the cookies, Manjano snorted at Beth's nickname for him. Grumpy-pants? Really?

Tentatively picking a cookie up with his good hand, Manjano paused while looking at it, as he had a sudden thought about how he'd never had any homemade cookies before. Was that considered normal for most people?

Sighing, Manjano simply ate the cookie before making any other vain attempts to eat his chili.

Hearing Laohu chuckling at him and then speaking up about the other possible way to eat his chili, Manjano raised an eyebrow at him, though it was a mix of amusement and annoyance. Manjano decided he wasn't starving badly enough to eat like any four-legged animals.

At the mention of looking less close to death, Manjano paused and thought back to the fight and when he'd feebly tried to help Falarion defend himself form Boris, but had completely missed the huge bear standing in front of him.

Frowning slightly at the memory, Manjano was brought back out of it (albeit he completely missed Beth's expressions) and looked at Laohu upon being asked how his arm was.

Glancing down at his bad hand, Manjano furrowed his brows before attempting to wriggle his fingers and resisted the urge to sigh again when his fingers still didn't react. They did say the anesthesia would wear off in a few hours so maybe it was still wearing off...or whatever.

As Beth began eating one of the cookies, Manjano returned his gaze to Laohu and listened to his simple praise. Manjano definitely didn't feel that way and a similar flash of guilt, quite like Beth's, appeared on his face, as he felt like he hadn't tried hard enough to help Falarion. In response to Laohu's praise, Manjano merely shook his head at the tiger, not feeling like he was worthy of such praise or any praise for that matter.

At the mention of visiting Falarion, Manjano looked down at his chili, which seemed to be chilling rather quickly (bu dum tss). Wincing at his own terrible joke, Manjano's expression then became weary and even a bit saddened, as he realized how heartbroken Falarion was over Gigi. Manjano hadn't the faintest idea how to help Falarion through such a thing since he himself had given up on dating a few years ago.

At the mention of everyone liking visitors, Manjano's head shot up and he looked at Laohu with slight surprise in his eyes. It was as if the tiger had quite literally read Manjano's mind. How did people, or tigers, do stuff like that? Read him without him having to say anything at all? It was people, and animals, like Laohu who would often put Manjano on edge because they would understand him without him having to say anything. That tended to make Manjano more than uncomfortable.

As it were, there was something about Laohu that made Manjano remain relaxed, albeit a bit surprised, in the moment. Manjano couldn't quite place it, but he had to admit...he liked the white tiger. Well, he inwardly admitted it, but close enough.

As the conversation eased away from the visitor talk, Manjano relaxed again and then made a disgusted expression upon the mention of dipping the cookies in chili. Shaking his head in amusement, Manjano then gave Laohu a look that easily said, 'You're joking, right?'

The amusement quickly was erased from his face when Jimbo mentioned his mom. Shifting his gaze back down to the chili, which was definitely cold or getting close to that by now, Manjano then aimlessly poked at it with the spoon, his expression a mix of sadness and almost...grief?

When Laohu mentioned joining the others and getting out of his comfort zone, Manjano had already withdrawn a bit and so he only barely heard half of what the white tiger said.

Yet, at the mention of fears, Manjano wearily looked back up at the tiger in time to hear him mention becoming feral and losing his self-control.

Manjano could never, ever imagine Falarion becoming that way, but the thought of the gentle white tiger (mostly gentle if you weren't the enemy anyhow) made Manjano blink. It was such a weird thing to think about and neither Falarion nor Manjano had ever really dwelled too much on such thoughts.

Well, they actually had once before. When those bullies had attacked and both Falarion and Manjano had been scarred over their eyes, the initial injuries had been bleeding profusely and both of the companions had thought they'd die that day for sure. In fact, they would've died if Luness hadn't dropped some of her healing tears into their eyes. She hadn't been able to save their sight, but she'd saved their lives that day.

As Laohu began his farewell for now, Manjano merely nodded at the white tiger before realizing with a start that he was now alone with Beth once more.

With his recent recollection of the day those bullies had maimed his companion and himself, Manjano found his mood a bit dampened, though he was doing his best to not let it show more than usual.

Leaving his spoon on the edge of his plate, Manjano snagged another one of Beth's cookies and began eating it, a vain attempt to avoid having to speak right away if Beth asked any questions.

@crucialstar @Flutterby

Leandra watched as Simon tripped himself up, just as she'd expected he would, and found herself doubling over the minute Simon's face impacted the mat. Her laughter only grew when the rest of his body slowly slid down to join his face on the mat.

Tears quickly formed in her eyes from the ridiculous amount of laughing she was doing, as Leandra's mood drastically lifted from earlier.

Wiping the tears from her eyes while still giggling a bit, Leandra then tried to walk over to Simon to offer a hand, but he pushed himself over and soon was on his backside and laughing as well.

Struggling to contain her own laughter just so she could briefly respond to Simon, Leandra then said, "Dude, you're way too easy to mess with. I believe I have found out my own style of fighting, too. My humor."

Grinning at Simon, Leandra then quickly added, "Oh, and in case you were wondering, Amber is not here. She's probably still resting in her bed with Calista."

As her laughter in between her speaking finally died down, Leandra suddenly realized just how hungry she was and let out a small groan before hugging herself while her stomach growled loudly.

"Okay, training's over, big guy. I want some food right meow." (Yes, she meant to say 'meow')

Smiling down at Simon, Leandra then cheekily added, "And don't expect me to help you up, dude. You'll just pull me down on top of you and we wouldn't want Amber seeing something like that, now would we?"

Winking after saying this, Leandra then turned on her heels and practically pranced over to the locker room, intending to grab her backpack just inside.

@zCrookedz

Beth listened silently, respectfully staring at her cookie until Laohu included her in their discussion. She took note of everything he said, and filed it away in her brain to mull over later. She watched the tiger move away for a moment, before putting his words out of her mind for now. It was obvious from Manjano's face that the tiger had been at least a little right about something, but it had been a long day and Beth couldnt quite tell which parts had hit home.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the others, and Beth blushed deeply at the sudden, massive praise her cookies were getting. With a wave of her hand, she tried to laugh of her embarrassment and said, "Thanks guys, I try."

Turning back to Manjano, her face grew a little anxious. "By the stars, theyre just cookies." If they were really so delicious, she wasnt sure if she would ever be able to make another batch like them. "I'll be right back after I get the rest out."

She did so, pulling the remaining two pans from the oven and putting the cookies on the racks to cool. "There, go wild, but save some for the people not in here." She called to the rest, grabbing a few for herself before returning to the loner table.

She plopped down next to Manjano, pulling one foot onto the chair and resting her elbow on her bent knee.

"You know, if you want to actually eat the chilli, you could sacrifice your masculine pride and just let someone feed it to you," Beth said, with a sly smile. "Or, I could make you a sandwich that doesnt require utensils." That seemed like a more likely choice. Then, she grew a little more serious, and added, "Sorry I wasnt there when you woke up. I wanted to make the cookies and bring them to you and in bed, but you got up too soon." Her voice had lowered considerably, and now she blushed for a different reason.

@Lioness075

Totus watched Beth for a few more moments, and then decided to give her a little privacy with Manjano. There was something there that he had never seen with Beth before, and even though it scared him, he knew it was a good thing. She couldnt live alone and afraid forever.

He turned back to Jimbo, Duik, and the others with a happy expression. Jimbo complimented Beth's cookies, and he puffed up with pride. "Beth is quite the chef, if I can say so. Her baked goods are to die for, and she does well with most anything. But her real talent is with wild game or an open fire. She's the best camp-cook on the face of the planet." He bragged about her shamelessly, but made sure to keep it at a volume that she couldnt hear. She would be mortified if she did.

His bragging was interrupted by Fie shouting. If Totus had eyebrows, he would have raised one at the scene. Haku certainly wouldnt eat a team mate, but it sure was interesting to see the small monkey's reaction.

Seeing Beth's anxious look at the increasing praise she was getting for her cookies, Manjano curiously tilted his head at her, wondering why she was seemingly becoming almost upset over the praise. Then again, Manjano had reacted almost similarly when he was praised by Laohu. It had been a different reason, but it was whatever.

As Beth left to retrieve more cookies, Manjano finished off his second one just in time for Beth to return with a few more cookies.

Seeing Beth make herself comfortable, Manjano raised an eyebrow amusingly. It was...cute how she set herself up like that.

Blinking at his thoughts and then blinking again at the mention of sacrificing his masculine pride to let someone feed him, Manjano couldn't help but quietly laugh at that. At the mention of a sandwich, Manjano knew better than to make any sexist jokes and wisely continued to keep his mouth shut.

Before he could respond to her suggestions for eating his chili, Beth apologized for not being there when he first woke up, which made Manjano simply tilt his head to the side while keeping his expression neutral.

At the mention of bringing cookies to him while he was still in bed, Manjano's head returned to its normal tilt and, while surprising himself and most likely anyone who noticed him, Manjano...smiled.

The mere idea of someone visiting him when he was injured and then bringing homemade cookies just about made his day, more so since it was Beth saying it. He'd never had a mother do such a thing for him when he was sick or stuck in a hospital due to injury. Leandra would always visit and help him, but she never brought any homemade food or meals. Mostly because she'd probably end up burning down the house if she tried.

His eyes glinted in the lighting of the cafeteria, as Manjano said softly to Beth, "You've already done more for me than any of my foster parents ever have."

Changing his expression to a more amused one, Manjano then quietly added in a cheeky tone with a smirk, "I also wouldn't mind being fed the chili...if you're the one feeding me."

Having caught on after a while that Beth was easily choked up when it came to someone teasing her, Manjano knew that his response to her eating suggestions would most likely make her blush that much more.

That, and it'd hopefully distract her from asking about any of his foster parents or homes...

Rin looked over curiously again, he had only been half paying attention. The other half distracted by scooping more food into his bowl. He face palmed after returning the ladel to the pot "Haku..." He said in a mock stern tone, his eyes peeking from beneath his fingers. Fie's attempts to escape yielded no results as Haku wrapped him up even tighter. She brought her face even closer to him. "Oh no, I couldn't eat him. He is much too large..." She looked over to Ash. "And handsome for that matter." She said turning her head back to Fie and gripping him a little tighter. "Besides, I already ate today. Are you calling me a glutton?" She asked, acting insulted then coming eye to eye with him. "No, my treat...Is cuddling with a super soft, super warm, monkey!!" She said excitedly, her tone changing completely as she snuggled her head onto his and wrapped him in a tight hug. Rin just shook his head and walked away, finding another seat next to Ash. "Umm, sorry about that. She's usually quiet, like me." He apologized to Ash as he sat.

Bael nodded, touching the bag of tea. "Yeah. It's my favorite. I'd left it all at home, but Annie just wouldn't have it, ya'kno', so she sent it. She knew I'd be complaining. 'It just doesn't taste the same without Tu. I should have brought my teapot.' It's always like thet. Every vacation." He stopped when she turned her attention to Eos, a bit caught off-guard by the sudden change in demeanor, and then stood to put water on the stove.

She was just getting to Manjano and Beth's blossoming relationship when he returned. He watched them a moment, with a slight smile. "I don't know what went through my head -- was my conscience shot? Was it left for dead? I said I'm sorry, but no one heard -- 'cuz actions speak louder than words." The song he sang was probably not familiar to anyone else, being a song from an obscure band -- the one he had spoken with Wednesday about -- and from an even more obscure album.

When Zoe brought up wishing she had someone in her life, Bael couldn't help but fidget a bit. He studied her carefully for a few moments, then said, "Have you ever had anyone? I don't s'pose I ever did myself. There was one girl but I never had the nerve to talk, y'kno'."

@DawnAntalios

After finally finishing his meal Eos decided to stand up and look around to see what the others were doing. It appeared to him that everyone was in a good company and that they enjoyed themselves so the old stag smiled. His heart fluttered at the thought that they were as close as a family and that they were enjoying themselves so much - he did not want to disturb anyone so he walked up to Bael and Zoe and nodded.

" I shall head back to the med bay, to your bed. " he spoke to the girl " I shall wait you there should you need me. "

With that Eos thanked everyone for the meal then walked out from the kitchen.

" Bye, Bambi! " Zoe waved at the stag and finished her cookie " Poor old lad, he misses out on all these cookies - he is a madman I tell you. "

Zoe listened as Bael speak, nodding at his words. What Annie did was strangely similar to what Natalie did to her when she was young - she would always help her out, guide her every step. Those were wonderful times indeed. Leaning against her chair she chuckled.

" Annie sounds like your guardian angel. The one who helps out your absent-minded self with her unending love. She is amazing, I reckon. "

She looked at Bael and wondered what was he doing, what was he murmuring, singing even. She recalled not a music like this though it is true that she was not very well versed in songs or bands for that matter so that did not surprise her. When he finally asked her about having someone to love she tried to think of something but shook her head.

" Nah, didn't really have anyone. " she said " To be fair I don't even know what love is, really. I never had time to learn about it. I know what it is by definition, what it does and how 'useful' it is... but realistically I never had the opportunity to open my heart to anyone. Ye, I am that kind of girl. "

She listened how Bael had someone in his mind and she whistled.

" That's no good, Romeo! If you truly love her then you must walk up to her and impress her! Don't miss an opportunity like that just because you are a tad bit shy, you have to be assertive with women. " she turned to him and spoke " Here, practice on me! Imagine that I am that lovely lady you love - now impress me! Flatter me or something, show me your charm! I know you have it in you Romeo! "

Duik looked even happier than usual as the chili bowl was set onto the table for him. He thanked Jimbo profusely.

"Stories of your kindness will be told for decades! Or at least until breakfast." With that he plunged his dark muzzle into the food.

@zCrookedz

It wasn't long before Alec appeared in the kitchen and was surprised to see Duik actually behaving himself.

"Wow D, I'm proud of you. On your own for over an hour and nothing's on fire."

"Woo cam bwame Aff's amashing chili!" He said through mouthfuls of the stuff. It took a while for Alec to translate that in his mind.

He nodded to Ash gratefully. "Thanks for feeding my kid, I mean, companion." Duik stopped eating just long enough to make a face at him.

Like Jimbo Alec helped himself to a piece of fruit instead of the Chili.

"I still can't see how you can live without meat." Duik complained loudly after licking his bowl clean.

Alec pondered the question...again. "Working at a bond center clinic for a year? At some point it becomes a professional courtesy...do I smell chocolate chip cookies?"

Simon sat there on the mat laughing with Leandra until the girl mentioned using humor as a fighting style. Simon pulled his legs in and sat cross-legged on the mat as he tilted his head to the side and scratched at his beard.

"Can't say that I have ever fought someone who uses humor in their fighting style. BUT! As my Pop's would always say, you can learn a lot about someone just from fighting them. If humor is how you will fight, then our enemies are in for a world of hurt."

At the mention of Amber not being there, Simon nodded and smiled. He had figured as much, after hitting the mat he had honestly waited to either here Amber laughing at him or scold him for falling for such and obvious trick. When neither came he knew it was nothing but Leandra being clever.

The mention of food did sound appealing, and he knew Jimbo was probably beginning to wonder where he had disappeared to. But Simon still had one last thing he wanted to do before meeting back up with Jimbo and the others, and hopefully, this time, he could not get distracted and make it to Darcy.

As he lifted himself off the mat, Leandra's comment made him scratch his head a bit. He had not intended on pulling her down, that would be very unsportsmanlike after a successful training session. Ah well, Simon shrugged and dissolved placing the gloves back on the rack. This time, he remembered to grab his bag and tossed it over his shoulder and turned back to Leandra.

"I have one more thing I need to take care of before I go get food, Leandra. If you see Jimbo, tell him it won't take long. One last thing, good job with the spar. Keep at it, and you will be a force to be reckoned with."

Simon turned and waved as he headed out of the gym and back towards the main hub. Now that hs had his ID, maybe he would be able to get to talk to Darcy before the debrief. He rummaged through his bag as he walked and found his old ID. The bearded face on the badge looked a bit younger but still held the same big goofy grin. He smiled and stuck the badge into his back pocket and returned the bag to his shoulder. As he did, he entered into the main hub of HQ and looked across to see a familiar Phoenix and Civet heading towards the cafeteria. Seeing Calista leaving Amber's side, Simon could only surmise that Amber had actually woken up and Calista was going to get something for her. Simon sighed and looked towards the medical bay. So much for not getting distracted.

Simon turned towards the medical bay and began making his way back there once again. He had to admit, this running back and forth seemed a bit counterintuitive, but Simon wanted to see how Amber was doing. He made his way back towards the door that led to her room and looked through the window to see she was indeed awake. Simon gently knocked on the door and gave it a push sticking his head through.

"Look who's finally awake. Feel up to a quick visit?"

@Lioness075 @SilverFlight

Jimbo sat back in the booth smiling at Duik as he watched the group continue to chat. a few times his name was mentioned, once by Loahu who seemed to be trying to coax a moody Majano into joining the conversation and the group. Jimbo had no quarrels with the young man, in fact, he came to admire his and Falarions relationship. though the two were complete opposites of each other, the two seemed to complement each other quite well. Which lead Jimbo to his question.

"Hey Manjano, where is Falarion? Were the docs able to patch him up ok?"

Before he got a response, Totus chimed in about Beth's cooking and Jimbo nodded to the little owl.

"I believe it. While I don't eat meat, I'm sure the smell of it would be quite intoxicating."

Jimbo was half-heartedly joking with the owl about the smell. Jimbo did not prefer the taste of meaty dishes, but there was chicken was made and the smell was pretty appealing.

"S-Simon!" Amber jumped at his entrance and immediately winced in pain. "Ugh, only if my painkillers don't run out." The IV drip bag rocked slowly as she shifted to more of a sitting position.

"Come on in." She had to admit the informality was nice, being 'Agent Strong the recruitment officer' was much too professional for her usual demeanor.

Amber's memory had a chance to piece itself back together, right up until she had been loaded onto the helicopter and she recalled what she had said to him before she blacked out.

"Hey, um...back on the chopper, if I said anything, you know, weird...well...they had me on some pretty crazy sedatives when I was held captive so...you probably shouldn't take it too seriously."

earlier someone had been kind (or unkind) enough to fetch her the mirror she had asked for and she was very conscious of the brightly-coloured bruises on all of her visible skin.

"Before you say it I know, I look like a rainbow with internal hemorrhaging." She said it so seriously she wondered if Simon would crack a smile before her.

@zCrookedz

Simon was glad to see her up and moving around a bit. At her acceptance, Simon slid into the room and shut the door behind himself and walked the room to a chair in the corner. He set the bag on the ground beside her bed and lifted the chair setting it down backwards. He straddled the chair and rested his big arms on the chairs back as he listened to Amber talk about the chopper. Thinking back, he remembered her saying that she had missed him. Simon gave her a half-cocked smile as he lifted a hand and made a nonchalant gesture to go with his smirk.

"I see, well if that's the case, I didn't miss you at all Strong." Simon set his arm back down and let his chin rest on his arms.

"Its alright Amber, we've both been victims of saying things under outside influences."

Realising what he had just said he made a weird face trying to figure a way out of her asking about it when he remembered something in his bag. As he looked into the bag and began to fish for what he was looking for, he listened to Amber mention how she looked. Simon's brow furrowed as he looked back up to her and he set the bag back down. His voice dropped a bit, and it even held a softness to it that Simon usually didn't use.

"Amber, you look like you gave those rogue bastards the fight of their life. Nothing less than I would expect from a fighter like you, no less. I just wish I...we had been a bit faster. If I had gotten down the cliff faster, gotten through the tunnels faster, could have saved you a lot of pain. I'm sorry."

Simon's eyes slowly lowered from Amber as he felt the weight of his guilt press on him a bit harder. At the end, he sighed as he remembered where he had put what he was looking for. He leaned a bit back in his chair and slipped his hand into his pocket. After a second of digging, Simon pulled his hand out and held it out to Amber. He let what was in it fall out and dangle down, and the small gold locket shown in the light of the room just like new.

"I fished this out of the snow after they took you. I tried to let Calista hold onto it, but the little fuzz ball said I should hold onto it. She didn't have pockets."

Simon's smile returned a bit as he held the locket out to Amber.

@SilverFlight

Seeing simon suddenly becoming a bit serious again, Leandra rolled her eyes amusingly and then listened to what he said before replying, "They'll be too confused to realize they're getting hurt until after they've been hurt."

As Simon stood up and then moved to gather his things, Leandra was already ready to go to the cafeteria, the wrappings on her hands gone, replaced with light bandaging, and her backpack on her back once more.

While her knuckles were a bit sore from punching the bag so angrily earlier, and had even bled slightly, it was nothing that some simple sleep and recuperating couldn't heal. Definitely wasn't any need for her to drop by the infirmary.

Though, as far as Leandra was concerned, Manjano and Falarion were both still in the infirmary. While it'd probably be good for her to visit her own brother and his companion, Leandra still felt uneasy being around them. Well, mostly just Manjano, but still. The twins just didn't really get along too well these days. So much had happened between the two in the past few years to bring them apart from one another.

Hearing Simon's farewell and praise, Leandra snapped out of her thoughts and grinned at him before waving and nodding at the mention of saying something to Jimbo.

Leaving the gym and going her separate way from Simon, Leandra soon arrived at the cafeteria only to suddenly realize she hadn't cleaned up from her visit to the gym. Whoops.

Dropping her backpack on a seat at near Duik after giggling at his actions and words for a moment, Leandra then wandered over to the leftover chili and served some for herself before overhearing that Alec didn't like to eat any meat.

Just as she was about to ask Alec why he didn't like meat, he explained himself and Leandra made an understanding expression (i.e. her nodding and making a weird expression). Well, that made sense, at least.

Sitting down beside Duik with her own chili plus a few of the homemade cookies she'd found near the chili, Leandra then quickly ate some of the chili before swallowing and asking out loud to anyone in particular, "So, who made the chili and cookies? Because the chili is amazing so far and judging by the smell and look of these cookies, they're going to be amazing as well."

The chili was amazing and while Leandra hadn't eaten a cookie yet, she had no doubt it was going to taste amazing as well.

Noticing Jimbo nearby, Leandra quickly added, "Hey, Jimbo, Simon said he'll be here in a bit. He had some business to take care of, or whatever."

As she went back to eating her chili, Leandra then noticed Manjano further off from the main group with Beth. Seeing the brace on his arm, Leandra furrowed her brows, as she wondered just how bad it really was for him. Should she give him one of her vials?

@SilverFlight @Flutterby @DawnAntalios @Sleipnir @zCrookedz

"Yeah, that's more like it. Glad to hear it." She replied, but she didn't sound all that glad.

Simon's sudden seriousness unnerved her, almost as much as his apology. She furrowed her brow a little as she listened. There was a short pause before she crossed her arms and replied. "I wouldn't say I gave them much of a fight, spending half of the time they had me unconscious...but hey! Cut the crap Sinclair! I did it to myself, there was nothing more you could've done. I set that charge on purpose...I never expected..." To survive? She couldn't tell him that. She would never tell him that the whole thing was a pathetic, guilt-driven attempt at redemption. Besides, hopefully that part of herself had died at the bottom of the cliff. Lord knew it put her through enough pain to think twice before trying it again. No, there was a way to make up for what happened in Singapore, and martyrdom wasn't it. She understood that now.

"There was nothing more you could've done." She repeated quietly. "So quit feeling sorry for me."

The flash of gold caught her eye and she gasped when she saw the locket. "I thought it was lost for good! Simon...thank you." She reached out and took it, cradling the small object with such emotion, its importance was blatant. Just then her expression froze with a sudden terror. "You didn't open it did you?" She she asked quickly, clutching the locket close to her chest, it was a bit of a drastic reaction.

@zCrookedz

Jimbo watched as Duik went to town on his chill, giving the hyena a thumbs up in recognition to his comment. As Alec and Xiao entered and joined the party, Jimbo shifted a bit looking around for Simon. He was supposed to meet him here after his workout, which should have neded some time ago.

It wasn't until Leandra joined the group that Jimbo got an answer to his partners absense. At the sound of Simon haveing something to do, Jimbo let his mind wander a bit towards the connection with Simon. He closed his eyes, and felt Simon's emotions reaching towards him. Happyness, Concern, a bit of excitment, and the slightest amount of pain. Jimbo couldn't help but smile as he instantly recognized the emotions. He tried to let his own emotions of understanding and clarity help calm Simon down, while he sat in the cafiteria with the others.

Mentioned @Lioness075 and @SilverFlight

Simon's eyebrows lifted in surprise at Amber's change in attitude. He never was the best at making puns and jokes, most of the time Jimbo ended up smacking him when he tried. He groaned and held up a hand in defence after Amber seemed down after his initial comment.

"Aw come on Strong. Geez, I know I'm not the most humorous person but dang. Of course I missed you, why else would I have gone to the trouble of going after you?"

Her attitude seemed to bounce back a little after she told him to quit blamming himself. He knew he shouldn't, but the image of her going over the cliff was right the next to her being swept away by the waves in Singapore. Before handing over the locket Simon once again tried to be a bit more serious while also trying to formulate his words the way he wanted.

"Just...look, don't go over any more cliffs or getting swept up by the water again ok? The team needs you, Calista needs you. I.....don't want to loose anymore friends ok."

Simon released the chain the locket was attached to and watched as Amber swooned over the jewelry. He was glad he had grabbed it and brought it back to her, after seeing her in the states she had been in her smile made him feel a lot better.

His normal cheery smiling returning to him, Simon became a bit confused when Amber froze and then asked about the inside of the locket. He thought back to when he had it in his own medical bay bed after breaking his leg.

"Uh..yea I did. It's a great picture of Calista, and I assumed the others in there were your parents. They look really happy."

Simon wasn't really sure what it was that made Amber freeze like she did, as far as he knew it was just a nice present with pictures of her family in it.

Beth watched Manjano calmly, blinking her green eyes slowly. His reactions were usually silent, so speaking with him required quite a bit of focus. He seemed to find her amusing at first, but grew serious when she did. She waited for a moment, confused by what seemed like a hesitation. His face changed into something she hadnt seen before- an actual smile.

Not a smirk, not a half-smile, but a true smile. Even though she was surprised and pretty elated, especially when he chose to speak aloud again, Beth hid it well and simply smiled back in turn when he mentioned how much she had done for him. It made her extremely happy to hear him say so, even though it also made her sad to realize how little help he had had growing up.

Her glow came to a screeching halt at his next sentence.

She turned bright red, and then the blood rushed from her face and she became several shades paler than usual. Her eyes widened, and she looked down quickly. She swallowed, and stuttered, "I-Im sure an-anyone would be m-more th-than willing." It was all she could say as fear began to flood her mind.

Totus listened happily to the others, and opened his beak to respond to Jimbo, but he got little distracted by a sudden burst of happiness from Beth. He was reveling in it, glad for her to be so full of joy, when it suddenly changed to panic. His head snapped around to look at the pair, but nothing had changed except Beth was now looking away from Manjano. With a twinge of guilt, Totus pushed into Beth's mind. It felt like eavesdropping, but he had to know what caused the sudden change. All he could hear was an unfamiliar male voice saying 'as long as it's you.' It took him only moments to put the pieces together and realize Manjano had said something similar, and scared her. He tried to soothe her with his mental presence, filling her head with his own voice to drown out the memories. Beth, calm down. He didnt mean it like that, he didnt mean to scare you.

Suddenly, and rather angrily, Beth shot back, When did you become so pro-Manjano?

When I realized he was doing good for you, as are the rest of these people. Dont shut them out when youre finally feeling happy again.

Beth pushed him out of her mind, and Totus turned back to the others, now subdued and troubled. Why did she always have to be so difficult?

Beth blinked quickly a few times, her face changing from fear to anger and then settling on angry confusion. She didnt look up at Manjano, nor did she say anything, but it was clear that she had returned to the present. She swallowed again, and her foot slid from the chair to the floor with a soft thud as she turned slightly away from Manjano. Still pale, she moved to stand, muttering something about getting him food.

Seeing Beth's small smile in return after his brief smile, Manjano almost felt giddy. Of course, he did his best to continue to remain his calm, neutral and now slightly excited self. But mostly calm.

When Beth froze and initially blushed at his teasing, Manjano continued to smirk at her, thinking nothing of how he'd worded his statement.

Yet, he suddenly found himself second-guessing his teasing, as Beth's face paled drastically and she quickly looked away from him before stuttering through a sentence.

Baffled by her sudden fear and the reaction he'd gotten, Manjano worriedly raced through his thoughts in a vain attempt to fix the situation.

Should he apologize? What'd he say wrong? Was it wrong for him to tease her? Did he need to stop doing that from now on?

As his inner thoughts burst with questions of what he'd done wrong, Manjano felt his own heart beginning to race, as he felt a distant anxiety attack quickly approaching. That...wasn't good.

As Beth seemed to completely withdraw inside of herself, Manjano unhelpfully did the same, fear evident in his eyes, as he couldn't help but worry that he'd somehow hurt Beth. How could he have been so stupid? She was hurt and broken like him and then he had to go and mess everything up by flirting with her when she was clearly not ready for such things.

As Beth's expression finally shifted from fear to confusion, Manjano merely bit his lip in a vain attempt to keep himself from hyperventilating out loud, even though he felt like he was struggling to breathe right now.

As Beth slid her foot back to the ground, turned away and then stood up before quietly mentioning something about getting him food, Manjano could only mutely watch her go, his mind still chaotic and filled with what was now guilt-ridden thoughts of him beating himself up for hurting her like that. He should've known better, right?

When Beth left and completely turned her back on him, Manjano muttered a curse under his breath before his eyes seemingly clouded over. Fuck it, he tried and he failed like he always did. Might as well give up now before anyone else got hurt or Beth got hurt again.

Remaining quiet so as to hopefully not draw attention to himself, Manjano quickly stood up from the table and was out of the cafeteria within a few seconds, inwardly hoping that Beth hadn't noticed or that nobody else from the group had noticed.

With his heart still racing, Manjano began practically panting to himself, as he quickly navigated through the HQ and eventually made his way to the gardens.

Almost bursting into them, Manjano was beyond relieved when he saw that he was alone.

Finding the closest bench to sit on, Manjano abruptly sat down before shifting all of his focus to his breathing to try and stop himself from completely losing it.

Why do I always mess shit up like this? What's wrong with me? Why can't I do anything right? I meet someone like me and all I can do is break them even more. What the hell is wrong with me?

With his thoughts flying rapidly at him and quickly taking a dark turn, Manjano soon felt faint tears on his cheeks, as he sat forward on the bench with his injured arm still stuck to his chest in the brace while his good arm rested on his knee and his hand came up to cover up his eyes.

All I'm good at is making things worse than they already are.
