Eyes wide, Beth gave Manjano a nod and turned back toward the wall coming toward her, and beheld it in all its slow-death glory.
Totus said from her shoulder, "Something is moving it."
"Some kind of mechanism.."
"..Is pushing it from behind."
"So if we stop that.."
"We stop the wall."
Without another moment of hesitation, Totus began listening just as Falarion was, with Beth lending her focus. He gave a soft screech and tapped at a place on the wall. She didn't have a pick ax like Manjano, that was in her larger survival pack back in Seattle, but she did have a gun with a nice kick. Totus ducked away, and Beth put two shots into the ice, creating a hole big enough for Totus to pull away more with his beak. In a few seconds, Beth was looking at a plate of steel with a small gear in it. Clearly vital to moving the wall, so logically, it was time to jam that sucker. She mentally ran through what was in her pack.
Rope, clips, protein bars, an emergency beacon, the pocket knife she couldn't stand to use anymore..
"The knife, Beth. It's strong enough and you've been wanting to get rid of it since that bastard hurt you." Totus said softly, and Beth nodded without thinking too much about it.
She pulled out a beautiful knife, clearly expensively made, with an engraving that read: To my Lizzy, who needs a knife even more often than I do -Tim. She stared at it for a moment, her eyes seeming sad. And then, her eyes hardened and she shoved it into the gear with reckless abandon.
"Needed the knife when you attacked me, Timmy boy.." She whispered, as the gear caught and the wall came to a shuddering, grinding halt.
