Being the Caretaker Again

"Well, I guess I could let you pick out a toy. You're being good today, and I think you've earned it, Sammy." Dean says, as he heads into the toy store.

Squealing in reply, Sam bounced in his stroller as Dean made his way around the toy store. All the colors, shapes, and sizes of the toys lined up against the walls amazed the little one. But one toy out of them all the younger wanted the most: it was a stuffed golden retriever puppy. If Daddy was possibly going to get him a real doggy some time, he should be prepared.

Trying his best to point and make grabby hands, but partially fading due to lack of motor control, the little one tried his best.

Dean picked up on his baby's cues, and looked to where he was pointing. He grinned as he picked up the stuffed puppy and handed it to Sam. "Is this what you wanted, buddy?" He asks.

Bouncing up and down in his stroller, Sam nodded excitedly. Holding the stuffed puppy in his hands, the little one hugged it to his chest and showered it in clumsy and wet kisses.

"Okay, Sammy. Let's go pay for him." Dean says as they head to the checkout counter, to pay for Sammy's new fuzzy friend.

Babbling and trying to make proper words in his puppy's ear, Sam couldn't contain his happiness. Daddy was the best ever. He gave him a puppy, even if it wasn't real, the little one sort of thought it was. The younger told himself that he'd have to be a really good boy for the rest of the day, to make it up to Dean.

Dean smiled and pushed the stroller out of the store, and over to a bench. He sat down and let Sammy play with his toy for a while. He also texted Cas, and told him about how good Sam was being.

Noticing that his phone was vibrating, the angel reached for it out of his pocket. Looking at the text he received for Dean, he grinned, Sam was a great little boy. With few and far between moments that he was ever bad. And those never lasted long.

Typing back his reply of: That's wonderful, Dean. Tell Sam that I said hello. Castiel couldn't wait to see his nephew again.

Said little one was currently playing enthusiastically with his new friend. Sam hadn't thought of a name yet, though, but maybe Daddy could help him with that.

Dean smiled and took a picture of Sam with his phone and sent it to Cas, telling him that he wishes he were there with them. Then, Dean decides to check Sam's diaper. Feeling how sweaty Sam is between the legs, he frowns, and decides to take off Sam's shortalls, leaving him in just a shirt, diaper and shoes, to let him get some air.

Feeling his phone go off once again, Castiel can't help but chuckle at the picture of Sam, dressed adorably and looking happier than ever with a stuffed puppy in his hands. Then Dean's message gave the angel's heart a tug. He wished that he was there too, and the feeling of people missing him made Castiel feel worthy of something. It felt wonderful.

Giggling at the cool air hitting his legs, Sam gurgled happily, hazel eyes staring fixedly at his puppy's ones.

"That feel better, Sammy? Now you won't be so hot, huh? Nice and cool." Dean cooes as he gives Sam's diaper a little pat, and tickles his tummy, grinning at his little one.

Giggling and giving a small squeal at his Daddy tickling his tummy, Sam grinned shyly, some drool dribbling from his mouth, and handed his puppy to Dean, because to Sam, it was a gesture of love.

"Aww. Thanks Sammy. What should we name your puppy, huh? Hmm....how about...Goldie? Do you like that name, Sammy?" Dean asks.

Cooing, Sam nodded and grinned brightly. Goldie was a great name, and his Daddy picked it out, making it even better. Pretending to also be a puppy, the little one made little barking noises and bounced, long hair getting in his face, making Sam shake his head just like a dog.

"No, no, baby boy. Not here. We can do that at home, okay? Now, let's go get some grub, huh? I bet you're hungry." Dean says, as he gets up and heads to the food court.

Hearing his tummy growl, Sam whimpers and nods, stopping his puppy noises. But, like Daddy said, he could do that later. When Dean started to feed him, it was a bit difficult, since Sam was so excited to get back home and play some more with Goldie. Though he tried his best to be a good boy.

"Sammy, I know you're excited, but you gotta calm down, buddy." Dean says, as he feeds Sam another chicken nugget.

Putting on a concentrated expression, Sam really tried to calm down, but eventually his excitement got the better of him, and he squealed, "D-d-dogggieee!" arms failing and smiling widely.

"I know, Sammy. Lets' finish our food, so we can head home and see Cas." Dean says, as he feeds Sam the rest of his chickn nuggets.

Squealing a few times more, the little one finished his food, and burped, giggling at the sound he made. He really wanted to see Uncle Cas too, and show him his new toy. Blowing a wet kiss at Daddy, Sam put his fingers in his mouth.

Dean smiled as 'caught' Sam's kiss, and put it in his pocket. "I'll bet Cas is ready to see you, baby boy." Dean cooed, as he threw aaway their trash, and headed out to the car.

Sam gurgled as he was put in his carseat once again, and gripping tightly on Goldie, the little one played with his friend happily, starting to go back to making puppy noises and clapping his hands every so often.

Waiting patiently at the house, Castiel smiled at the fact that he'd be seeing Sam and Dean soon. He also couldn't help but laugh at how unbelievably happy the younger looked with his toy.

Arriving at home, the little one waited patiently for his Daddy to get him out of the carseat once he's brought their bags in. Mock-barking, Sam holds tightly onto Dean as they enter the house.

Hearing his loved ones enter the room, Castiel gave Sam a nose kiss and shone a warm smile at seeing Dean.

"Hello, Dean. And hello, Sam. Who is your friend?"

Showing his Uncle his new friend, Sam squeaked, "G-G-Goldieee!"

Dean grinned. "Isn't that the cutest thing? I bought it for him at the mall, cuz he was being such a good boy, for me." Dean said, as he ruffled Sam's hair.
