Nation Building BeckonCall's Fantasy Nation-building RPG thread

At this point I am most concerned with the next "Blast post" catching us up to an equal starting line -- and I am also a bit "wait and see" if Leusis' schedule suddenly precluded playing the game, now suddenly might, and may suddenly not again. I've told him when things level off and there is a forum for it I may hash with him, and if Leusis is willing to take your help, that may be fine.

I'm just saying I just worked hard to off-ramp him so on-ramping another faction (especially right after yours) can't be higher in the que than finishing calculating casaulties (which considering the number of healers and resources is starting to look promising, no jinx) -- plus dividing the loot, resolving consensus on pressing issues in the google doc, and getting everything leveled off.

Besides, prophetic dreaming has foretold all of this. If you cared to listen to your own Bone-Singer -- Nateema would have said unto to you "The Dragonfly it flew away, but it came back with a story to say..."

But nobody listens to their prophets anymore. Do they?

I have been meaning to ask Nateema about her vision, but there's been too much work getting in the way of it. What with the island caper, this meeting of the factions, and soon she's going to be pulling information out of an unwilling victim that could be the key to avoiding this mysterious 'cull' by the end of Year 2. I figured as soon as the interrogation was over and she had time to rest that Milkweed would be able to ask her about her vision properly as a good Chief should. Or maybe he can do it before she goes in for the interrogation. Either way, Milkweed will be hearing about her vision properly and soon.

Prophesies are cryptic, but Nateema insists there is some very portent-full imagery for those willing to mine their vision for it.

entry in thread or doc? already this is getting confusing for me -- I have a map file, and a couple of word files, and all the threads, and now the doc... xD

@Heyitsjiwon

In regards to your Gdoc post, we're not suggesting we use an old Muurdaanian flag for our new one. The Tyren have offered up their little homemade flag that they put together from the sails of their old ship. We're suggesting we use that flag as a design base to work from. Muurdaanian imagery has nothing to do with it.

The Gdoc has it's place, but It would be nice to find a way to do that here. Perhaps with messaging and different color font as someone had I believe suggested or having the Gdoc reflected here as well?

In terms of Leusis returning, I am fine with the Sylvan Elves return, that to me is preferred over a new faction, because we already have a narrative going with the Sylvan elves and a history.

The only reason I don't want to bring the GDoc over here, at least in bulk, is because there's so much information being put into it in a short amount of time. The strength of the GDoc is that it's fluid, it can be edited on the fly whenever we like. The forum here isn't quite as malleable or easily navigated, but we could try and come up with a compromise. Perhaps we each post in the OOC after we've made an edit in the GDoc with a quick synopsis of what we've done? That seems reasonable to me, and we can tag all the relevant parties so they know what to look for.

That does sound nice, and it's as easy as cut and pasting. I can already tell you with my attention divided I sometimes forget the google doc, and the urge to check it can slow me down. I keep hyping it, but I have a STACK of orders to process and they are going down LIKE DOMINOS ASAP.

@Beckoncall

If you want to leave the Doc up you can always quickly check for any edits by clicking the 'last edit' phrase at the top-center of the webpage. It'll bring out all the edits that have been made in the doc and put them in a neat little timeline.

I love it, especially how it's actually got everybody to take a stand on most things... I'll just have to make sure that all that thought and effort makes it's way back into the game.

Once Summer starts (or immediately Before) we can think about on-ramping @Leusis again -- but if he suddenly quit two times in a row it would totally give me a sad. I've encouraged his brother (and him indirectly) to come up with a new faction that he'd have more excitement playing -- as the wood elves would be hard to reintroduce now that at least THOSE Sylvan are actively fighting the Muurdaan.

I finished all the positions for the Aymaran on the Gdoc. Not really sure what to put for order of events, so I left that one blank actually. I'm sure you'll all be surprised to find that the Aymaran are being generally uncooperative with the more peaceful folk and are proposing violent ideas.

"Hey! Remember back when the Aymarans never cooperated with anyone and eventually had to be exiled, or worse?"

Oh... wait... they're still in the process of making that happen. Nevermind!

(whistles tunelessly) xD

A sample conversation with an Amayran:

What would like to do today?

A: Kill.

What should we do for dinner?

A: Kill.

Any plans for the weekend?

A: Kill.

Roll and repeat.

@Heyitsjiwon

I was looking over your faction overview and I noticed that there's no entries for either your geologist or your linguist, because I seem to recall you had one of those when you made contact with the Gnolls. Would you consider updating that please?

@Beckoncall @Heyitsjiwon @Prince Vaethorion @SpiralErrant @Elendithas

I updated the GDoc with some new text. In summary:

Imp Neighbors: Ratkin suggest that Breeze and the Highborn Linguist be part of the party that seeks an audience with the Zebani.

Colony Threats: With the discovery of the sewer connection to the river the Ratkin are suggesting a compromise that will allow deeper exploration of the tunnels and partial restoration of the sanitation system.

Spoils of Battle: The Ratkin are responding to the new updates about the witch interrogation. They're also throwing their support behind a central Vault idea, and suggesting that the battle spoils be properly inspected before they're given away or stored in the Vault.

Colony Unification: The Ratkin are making a suggestion that will give the Aymaran an equal voice in the Council. They're also asking for factions to suggest new names for the colony if New Hope isn't ideal.

Delay in mega-post because of eating a bad dry salami and chasing it with eight dollars of oily Castlevatrano olives, four canole', a macaroon and a handful of cookies.

I have regrets. stay tuned. I'm back on my feet.
