Avatar: Lost Tales of the Hundred Year War

Location: Ba Sing Se, Earth Kingdom
Ruiko
ba sing se.png

Breathing heavily, Ruiko bent over, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. She had been on the run for the last several days. Seeing the large earthen walls of the earth benders was a joyous sight. Ruiko wiped the sweat from her forehead as she straightened herself out; she had been a fire nation officer only a few days before when she was told about the next major operation that was going to happen. She had been thinking about it for a while before all of this, she never thought this war was justified, when she was younger that was a different case. The war was older than she was being a young child easily influenced by those around them. As she grew older and saw the war first hand she couldn't help but disagree with it. The war was to assert the Fire Nation as the strongest nation.

From what she was told there was going to be a siege coming to Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom. The Fire nation had carved out a portion of the earth kingdom and established "colonies" in the occupied territories. The war started with a bang as the Fire Nation assaulted the Air Bender temples and soon continued with their conquest from there. As she looked up the sun was at the highest point in the sky telling her it was mid day. She had grown accustom to the weather here over time, though she had heard about the great walls of Ba Sing Se even as a child but nothing could compare to how it was in person. There was something mystical about it, the walls she could hardly believe that anything could punch through it. However, she knew the fire nation was always looking to improve its technology.

Upon reaching one of the many gates, she looked around guards were seen by the main gate. She knew that many people came through these gates of all kinds of benders. She figured that someone from the Fire Nation would attract more attention and would probably be watched more closely. Not that she had anything to hide, but one could never be too careful. There was a line of people trying to go through the gate and she saw some people wearing Fire Nation garb to which she shrugged her shoulders and moved towards the line. She took note of the people around her, she knew there was a war going on but, the people here didn't seem concerned about it. She figured that they might feel like the wall can't be breached, which might be a true statement. Now all she had to do was wait as she got closer and closer to the gate.

Traveling across the world had never been one of Suter's goals in life, and yet here he was, on the opposite side of the planet. His journey across the sea had been marred by ocean storms which put his bending to the test and forced him to endure awful conditions. But being on land in these foreign regions was no better. Everywhere he went he saw signs of the Fire nation's Expansion or he saw Fire Nation soldiers, either one was pretty bad. Many close encounters with them have helped to improve his combat capabilities, but the realization that his life was on the line and that he might never see his family again had started to take its toll. Anok had made it seem so easy to throw yourself into danger and risk it all for what you believed in and loved. Suta felt drained however and in need of a break.

He journeyed inland to where he was told there was a city of walls, unharmed by the Fire Nation's invasion. It sounded like the perfect place, perhaps the only place, where he could go to rest and gather his thoughts. The trip there was no less perilous than anywhere else and it only made Sutar long for peace even more.

His arrival to the city was not as uplifting as he had expected. The walls were colossal, blocking out any view of the city and there was a line just to get in, with Fire Nation citizens standing in the line? He would normally try to hide and wait to strike them, but there were city guards, so if they were fine with it then so was he. Quietly, he got in line behind an elderly woman and waited to get into the city.

1658727515796.pngBa Sin Se. Took her long enough. Two years as a nomad within the Earth Kingdom and she's only just now made it to the biggest city. Cresting over a hill, Saki Honoko squints against the mid-day sun. Raising a hand to provide her emerald green eyes shade she chuckles. "Bigger than I thought. Let's hope the big city means big potential." She says to herself. Well not entirely... Saki flicks the reigns on her Ostrich Horse signaling the beast forward. With a unique white feather on the top of her head, Aika had been Saki's noble and trusted mount for a long time.

She had seen the line from afar, but up close it proved to be way worse. "Tsk." She grimaces at the line. There she was atop her steed, dressed in full Fire Nation colors - Golden Epaulettes and trim lined her red overcoat and vest with similarly styled military officer-looking pants atop a plain black undershirt and leggings. There was a golden emblem on her overcoat she had draped over her shoulder like a cape. The symbol was a stylized flaming sun above two stalks of budding wheat that bend in a V with the sun in the center. Could she have worn something a little more low-key and less Fire Nation-y? Absolutely. But she saw it as an insult to injury. Wearing these colors and bearing her family symbol meant the Fire Nation would know she was a traitor. That their perfect empire was flawed. But it also meant not all Firebenders were pro-war, and she wanted to represent that minority.

Keeping her head held high and chest puffed out she waits in line with a slight frown, visibly a bit aggravated about the wait. With one hand on the pommel of her blade and the other resting between her legs holding the reigns for Aika. She stood out, for sure. But the young woman wanted the attention. It would help her judge others easier if she catches their attention first. She would see how smoothy entrance would go for her, and make the next move from there.

Taal

0195A6D1-AFB9-4684-A5F6-A6C11CB30B14.jpeg
Thanks to the stories of his mother, Taal knew Ba Sing Se as the unconquerable city. Standing outside the wall, he could see why she would call it so. His first thought upon seeing it, perhaps dumbly, was wondering where the windows were. He lifted his head, trying to see if he can find a person to talk to. There was none he could see from this angle.

“Forget windows, what about a door?” He asked aloud to himself. That, at least, was answered in the form of a huge mob of people gathering towards one part of the wall. Taal’s spirits lifted, proud of himself for spotting the way in, and made his way over, staff tucked in his armpit, hands holding a big basket of herbs that blocked his frontal view unless held a certain way.

The plan was simple, Taal would head to Ba Sing Se in cognito (he had “borrowed” a cloak from a nearby village to hood his head and hide his tattoos) and sell the herbs he had collected. In this time he hoped to gain news about the war, his people, and perhaps too hopefully, news of one person in particular. Ba Sing Se is a city of people. Someone’s gotta know something, right?

Taal joined the crowd and immediately regretted his life choices. He had never been so close to so many people before, it was stifling. People surrounded him, packing him in like a sheep being herded. It didn’t help that his basket blocked his vision of just how much farther they needed to go. Looking to the left, he just saw someone on a horse a short distance away. Whoever it was probably had a clearer view.

“H-hey!” He lifted up his voice, trying to project over the bustling people. “Can you see the entrance? How much longer do we ha-ah!” Not paying attention to where he was going, Taal bumped into the person in front of him, the impact tipping the basket over, herbs spilling everywhere.

“Sorry!” He dropped his staff and dropped to try and collect all of his goods, a challenge without using his usual means of collecting things as well as the people stumbling and pushing passed him.

Nuvuk
Approaching the foot of the wall Nuvuk craned his neck and leaned further and further back trying to keep the top in view until he reached the limits of his balance and gave up, the sheer surface reminded him a little of the towering cliffs of the northern coasts but the similarities quickly ended. Reaching out a long sleeve slipped back revealing a hand missing it's middle fingertip and the top two joints of the last finger, feeling the smooth stone beneath his palm he imagined he could feel the entire absurd length of the wall separating the people held within from the world as a whole, for a moment he thought he might prefer to stay outside but he'd heard it was still a long way from the outer wall to the city proper and the surrounding area wasn't exactly hospitable.

Shrugging off the thought of roughing it he meandered back to the gate, giving the row of people standing around a curious glance he obliviously headed for the entryway without giving a thought to the discontented murmuring from the line until a guard took notice. "Hey you!" With a stamp a rock jutted up in the perfect position to stub one of Nuvuk's remaining toes, stumbling with a yelp the scarred man stood on his uninjured foot looking accusingly at the earthbender. "Ah, what was that for?" Glaring scornfully out from beneath his wide hat the guard jerked a thumb at the people still in the queue. "Unless you got a pass hidden in those rags you get in like everyone else, by joining the back of the line!" Hearing the many sounds of approval Nuvuk took another look at the oddly strung out crowd. "Oh is that why they're all standing that way? Uh my apologies to all." Placing a mostly whole fist in his palm he bowed to them and the guard in turn. "I will..." He leaned back searching along the line. "...find the end somewhere out there."

Making his way further and further and further away from the wall Nuvuk's expression of peaceful calm grew more strained as he went on. Spotting a small bundle of plants get inadvertently kicked out of the increasingly less queue and more milling crowd like mob he snatched it up before it could suffer any further abuse and gave it an appreciative sniff. Leaning down he peeked through the legs of the people at where a younger man was trying to gather the herbs back into a basket, noting that the guards didn't really seem to care much what was happening this far away Nuvuk awkwardly made his way through the crowd to the herbalist and crouched next to him. "Here you are, I believe this is-ow yours." He said keeping a calm smile on even as a passerby's low hanging satchel bashed his head.

Ling Pho

Ling Pho looked out in awe at the sheer scale of the city she was entering. Bi SIng Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom and debatably the largest and best city in the three nations. She was told that her family was descendants of a now defunct noble family that once lived in this city, but she was far from such grand circumstance. She was a village girl from an island far away from her, she hadnt been to any city let alone the capital before. So many people in one place, so many streets, building, smells, sight, it was overwhelming.

However, she wasnt here as a tourist and sightseeing, she was here on a mission. Her band of freedom fighters had some success with the local Fire Nation soldiers in her area but that meant that the local governor was cracking down harder. From success after success now her band was barely holding on as it is. She had heard the earth kingdom government might be willing to help a band like hers, so she was here to petition for whatever aid she could get. Who to talk to was a different story? She knew most of the big wigs were in the centre but how did one get anywhere in this place?

She had passed through the gates and stood for a moment trying to get her bearing but the number of people about, citizens and refuges, made it difficult to see around her. She could just about tell that there was a market nearby, a good quick stop she supposed. She had travelled far and used up her provisions so could use a meal. However, something else caught her eye though as it did a few other people. A woman in red on a mount marching through the entrance, she had fire nation written all over her, but she seemed to walk like nothing was wrong. She couldnt help chuckle, the girl had some stones she would her that. She couldnt help be curious either so she approached the girl, Ling was dressed in her civilian gear which was a rather dirty green peasant dress so she would use to her advantage.

"My lady... My lady... A coin for a beggar?" She pretended to beg as she moved to take the rain of the mount.

Ruiko

As Ruiko moved closer and closer to the gate, she noticed a few more arrivals; there was another fire nation arrival who was on a mount no less. There was also a water tribe member who had now gotten in line, which she thought was interesting. She figured not everyone liked the cold, so some probably left the tribe and moved elsewhere. She also noticed an air bender, which she thought was a little strange, though, from her education, she knew they tended to travel. But she had never seen one until now. Tapping her finger against her arm, she folded her arms across her chest as she waited. The gate slowly got closer and closer; she squinted her eyes to see better. After a few moments, she gave up and let out a sigh, and this line will take a minute, I suppose. She thought to herself, taking a step forward toward the gate as the line moved.

After an hour or so, she finally reached upon reaching the gate; one of the guards looked her up and down, "You're new here by the looks of it, you can go throu-" the guard was cut off by another man who stepped out from the shade of the gate.

"No, there is more to it than that; we need more information; place her in the holding area for now," The man ordered as two guards nodded and approached her.

"What, but I haven't done anything!" Ruiko argued as the guards now took a stance ready to fight if they had to, which she just let out a sigh. "Fine, fine, I don't want to cause a scene," she stated before being escorted to a building where there was a cell with a few benches. There were about five people already in there, all from the various nations, even a few earth kingdom citizens. Ruiko scratched her head as she was escorted and placed inside the cell as someone was then taken away.

"You have got to be kidding me," she muttered, shaking her head and taking a seat. A few moments later, several other individuals were brought in for questioning, including Ling Pho, Sutar, Nuvuk, Taal, and Saki. Ruiko noticed the other fire nation citizen was on the mount earlier. "So, what did they pull you guys aside for?" She inquired as she was curious as to what this whole thing was about.

Sutar

Watching as the line seemed to finally move, Sutar spent the next hour yawning and stretching his limbs, getting antsy and eager. He'd been in the line so long and now it seemed that they would be getting somewhere. The line was held up however. "For Tui's sake." The young bender evoked the spirit's name, finding that only an older and wiser entity could make sense of things. He became a spectator to one of the Fire Nation people being taken out of the line and right away he wanted to celebrate. What could those people want inside the strongest bastion against their invasion? Certainly nothing good.

Now that she was out of the line he was certain that things would start to move again, but then the soldiers came back and grabbed him. "What? What's going on?" He questioned as they escorted him to the holding cell where they had just threw the Fire Nation girl. "I think there's been a mistake." He protested softly as the cell was locked behind him. He wasn't strong enough to fight some soldiers, but even if he was, that wouldn't get him into the city.

"What did you do? Name us as your accomplices in whatever scheme you're part of?" He directed his frustration at the Fire Nation girl who had first been thrown in. There was no reason for him to be here, unless someone had told a lie about him. That sounded like something the Fire Nation might do.

1658980420104.pngSaki would let out a long exhale through her nose. There was so much going on with this crowd. Dozens of conversations and people talking over each other. If it was this crazy in the line into the city, who knows how it will be in the actual city itself. However, as much as she'd love to ignore most of these civilians, one of them was at her side asking for help. A young woman, probably about her age in traditional Earth Kingdom colors. "I... suppose so." She says as she reaches into her vest, pulling out a small coin pouch she had tucked in there. She would rummage through the collection of coins before returning her focus to the woman. Her hand clutches the money tight in her gloved hand. Saki's eyes narrow as she senses she may have been swindled. Her saddlebags were easily accessible. She could tell something was up. "You'd take advantage of me like this?! I know you took something, thief!" The firebender calls the stanger. "Hand over what you've taken and I might just let you walk away!" She was furious, her hand immediately goes to her blade.
Before anything could transpire, however. The guards rush up to the pair and put a stop to the brawl before it could occur, and Saki saw little advantage to fighting her way out. Despite spewing a long-winded string of insults at the thief, the guards, and their dumb stupid wall with its dumb smelly houses Saki was placed into a holding cell with several others as her prized mount is taken to the stables. Her hands grip the bars of the cell, gritting her teeth as she burns through her gloves and begins to heat the metal she's holding.

"I didn't DO anything! Why am I locked up here with this riff-raff!? Damn you! Let me out THIS. INSTANT!" She yelled at the guards. When it became clear they weren't going to listen she turns around with an angry huff as a bit of flame emits from her nostrils. She points a finger at Ling accusingly, her burnt glove falling off her hand in the process. "You!" Saki snarls at her. "This is clearly your fault! Go beg for forgiveness with the guard and return what you took!"
The exiled noblewoman failed to pay much attention to the others in the cell, only focusing on Ling.

Ling Pho admittedly went beyond her initial intention when she approached the fire nation woman on her mount. The stranger had seemed to have bought her beggar disguise distracting her for a few moments, allowing Ling to take a look at her mount. She found the mount had a few pouches and was curious to see if there was anything of note, secret documents and such. She moved quickly, placing her hand into one of the larger pouches and gave a quick rummage. She thought she felt what she thought was a scroll but the stranger turned before she could take a good grip on it. She removed her hand quickly, she seemed to make it before the stranger could notice. However, it seems Ling didnt t recover fully as soon the stranger began to throw out accusations.

Despite the stranger going for her blade, Ling maintained her beggar appearance, looking a mix of surprise and affronted. Part of her wanted to laugh as for once she hadnt stolen anything. "No... My lady... I didnt... Please... Mercy... " She pretended to beg, stepping away as if frightened and prostrated her head. She stepped back hoping it might force the stranger to step down from her horse, making her easier to deal with if it came to blows. However, fate had other plans as no sooner had the argument sounded that they were surrounded by guards and taken away. She thought better of fighting, it was more trouble than it was worth. All she had to do was to continue her pretences. If she was searched, sure she would be discovered as a kyoshi warrior but also that she didnt steal anything, a little annoyance, but it would be sorted.

Before long they were thrown into a cell and soon it became apparent that this was not about the robbery. No questioning or anything, just being thrown in the cell with others who were in the same predicament. Curious, very curious. It seemed though the thought had escaped the fire nations girl's mind as she seemed to be determined to get the item she didnt steal back. Ling groaned and rolled her eyes. "I didnt steal anything." She replied as she straightened her posture and stood with more confidence and authority. She seemed to change immediately from a beggar to that of a warrior and a leader. "You will find that any perceived theft is the least of our troubles."

Nuvuk
Finding himself being plucked from the crowd and dumped in a cell with dizzying swiftness Nuvuk wondered if he had really offended that much with his queuing faux pas or if the herbalist who was also in the cell with him had been carrying something suspect. In any case he expected he'd learn soon and picked an empty spot near the wall to sit cross-legged on the floor, anywhere else it would have been a meditative posture but for the steely stares he directed at what looked to be two Fire Nation citizens. "I don't see what concern it is of yours." He said pointedly to the one that asked what they were in for.

Listening to what looked to be a fellow Water Tribe man hurl accusations and an overdressed Fire Nation girl start an argument Nuvuk sighed. "Let's keep a little equilibrium in this space, starting a fight will only end with us in chains and likely in a more long term prison as well." Unless he was quite mistaken he recalled a space like this with so many people left together being used to hold suspicious persons for a short time and he held out hope that he would be among those released after the innocent were sorted from those that needed to be interrogated further.

Taal
0195a6d1-afb9-4684-a5f6-a6c11cb30b14-jpeg.1005661
Taal smiled at the one person kind enough to help him pick up his merchandise. “Thanks, I’m not usually this-ow-clumsy,” he said as he was accidentally kicked in the side by a passerby. He was going to explain himself more when he felt another kick in the same spot as before, this one not feeling as accidental. Taal looked up and saw a guard staring right back down at him.

“You’ll need to be coming with us,” the guard said, hoisting Taal back up on his feet.

“Of course, sir. Let me just grab my basket and-“ before he could finish, Taal’s basket was taken by another guard and carried off.

He’ll give them one thing, the guards work quick, taking him and the kind person from the crowd and brought directly to the room in which they and several others currently preside. Taal was wondering if maybe this was a customary step to getting into Ba Sing Se. Based on the reactions of his fellow inmates, he determined it mode likely was not.

The diverse clothing told Taal that he was amongst a very different group of people from all walks of life. Not a one looked like they were locals, except for maybe the one had obviously been pretending to be less than what she was. He observed them all curiously. While they all tried to understand their predicament, he tried to understand them.

He kept closer to his acquaintance from outside, whom he had already sensed a kinship with despite their very short interaction. “My friend, here, is right,” Taal finally spoke up, his voice reserved and breathy like the wind. “There is no need for us to get excited. I’m sure whatever reason we are all in here will be resolved as soon as we speak to one of the guards.”

Taal sat down cross-legged on the floor and twiddled his fingers aimlessly in the air.

Ruiko
72878e2aba122abfc921baf148c0a876.png

Ruiko sighed as the water bender accused her of being the reason they were in this cell. She rested her chin in the palm of her hand as she glanced up at him with her eyes. She had a neutral expression on her face as she stood up, "I'm sorry for not knowing why you are in here," she stated before noticing several other people were now being brought to the cells. "On a side note, if I had listed you as accomplices of me doing something, wouldn't you think we would be in chains right now?" She inquired, attempting to poke holes in his whole theory that she had done something.

She then turned to the other fire bender calling the average person 'riff-raff.' "I assume you are a noble as well then; well, I suppose its comforting," she commented before turning to the earth bender and the other water bender who seemed to have a better grasp on their lives. "I say you should stop shouting unless you want to get more attention," She took a pause for a moment as one of the guards walked over.

"Hey, Fire Nation girl that is shouting shut up before we make you," The guard threatened as he produced a cloth from a pouch on his hip. After a moment, he then walked back to where he was before he interrupted the group. Ruiko rolled her eyes; she didn't have time to deal with all of this; there was important information she had. Each minute that passed by was a minute they would lose to prepare.

She then looked toward Ling as she glanced the woman up and down; as a fire nation officer or former one, she could tell by how the woman carried herself that she was a warrior of some kind. "I would believe her; she doesn't have a reason to lie at this point; we are all in the same place. She can't hide anything like that from the guards," Ruiko argued with the other fire nation girl, who seemed very animated and confident she was pickpocketed.

She then saw as the air bender, to which she walked over and looked him over for a minute, "Oh, you really are an air bender, curious I haven't seen any in a while," she admitted as she realized she was being a bit too nosey and stood up and cleared her throat. "Ruiko, as you can see, I'm a fire bender," She introduced herself, glancing around the room.

She then walked over to the bars and gripped them, looking towards the guard, "Hey guard, I got important information that your king will want to know or your general, whichever I can talk to sooner," She barked as the guard glanced over and rolled his eyes before pushing himself off the wall.

"Oh yeah, and what information would that be?" The guard inquired as he eyed Ruiko for a moment, looking her up and down.

"The fire nation is planning a strike on Ba Sing Se; they want to blast down the wall; I'm a former noble and military officer," Ruiko informed the guard, who looked at her for a moment before rushing out of the room to go do something. Now all she had to do was wait.

Youdron kept his head down as the line shuffled forward. The walls of Ba Sing Se loomed above him, casting a shadow over the milling crowd. Biting his lip, Youdron pulled the brim of his hat lower, resisting the urge to scratch at the fake beard covering his face. Guards in Earth Army green patrolled the lines, shoving people that strayed. Occasionally they would reach out and grab someone from the throng, dragging them off toward the wall. "Fire Nation," he thought, noting the clothes. "A bit too obvious for spies, though. Unless that uniform is supposed to be some sort of bizarre double bluff." He shook his head at the foolishness and reached for his pipe. Keeping his hat low as he watched the soldiers, Youdron ran his hands over his rough green jacket, checking the knives secreted under the fabric. The clothing was baggy and worn from hard use. Perfectly forgettable. A fake beard to draw the eye away from his youth, and he'd be able to pass through the gates without a single guard getting a good look at his face. He was just mentally congratulating when the wind caught the cloak of a figure a short distance ahead, and a hand shot out to grab it. A tattooed hand.

Youdron froze in place, standing and staring at where the cloaked figure had stood, oblivious to the crowd that had to swerve to avoid him. He stood there for several minutes, touching the back of his own hand. He'd never had the chance to get the tattoos himself, but he thought he could almost feel them regardless. He moved to take a step forward before stopping himself. He could feel the urge to call out welling up inside him. Youdron took in a few ragged breaths, hands clenched into fists. He turned on the spot and stepped out of the line with a sigh. "I'll just swing around the walls, find somewhere else to hide out." As much as he wanted to see another Air Nomad, it wasn't worth the attention. Better to avoid anyone with those tattoos.

He made it half a dozen steps before the guards closed in. He felt the air from their movements before he saw them and had to force himself not to duck to the side as a pair of burly men in green armour stepped into his path, the third stepping in behind him. Youdron tensed. His body started to move on its own before he could rain his instincts in. Taking a deep breath, he flipped his hat back and smiled "Whale helloo there yungen. What can ah dooya four?" He thickened his accent and squinted to make his face appear more lined. One of the guards scoffed before reaching out and grabbing him by the shoulder. "You're coming with us, you old coot. Shut up and come quietly, or else."

Saki would immediately take a surprised step backward in a defensive posture as she noticed the complete shift from the accused thief. It was only then that Saki would lower her fists, clearly being seen as the aggressor. Which- she kind of was to be fair. Her emerald eyes look over each of the others that she had been contained with.

There was the thief, of course. Who was clearly more capable than first thought. She'd have questions for that one for sure. Two water tribe-looking individuals. One of whom seemed to be more hostile than the other given how much venom he addressed Saki and the other fire bender with. There was also an air bender, which causes Saki to tense visibly. Her father had talked about his guilt in playing a part in the Air Nation genocide. It was deplorable what the Fire Lord had done, an entire people was killed for one person. Finally, there came the other fire bender. Who had just made a very bold claim - that the Fire Nation was planning to attack Ba Sing Se!
"Fine! Fine!" Saki holds up her hands in surrender. "I can see your reason." She addresses everyone. "Clearly there are more pressing matters." She would quickly close the distance and put a hand on Ruiko's shoulder with a sense of urgency. "How soon? That's insane! The Fire Nation surely couldn't breach the walls easily. Especially now that I've seen them in person." Glancing at the walls outside, she begins to pace back and forth within the cell. "Besieging the city would be a logistical nightmare. They'd need siege weapons, and dragging those or the supplies to build them across enemy territory would be risky..." She begins to ramble, biting her thumb to stop herself. "They need to be stopped," Saki says with a growl.

"I know I look it, but I hold no loyalty to the Fire Nation. So you can stop glaring at me." Saki crosses her arms.

To her relief, cooler heads prevailed over the fire nation girl to drop the thieving accusation and concentrate on their current more important predicament. She took the chance to look around at the other cellmates, to her surprise she had noted so far is another somewhat wild looking Fire nation girl, an air nomad and two water tribesmen. Various curious mix, if it was just the fire nation pair and she got taken along for the ride than that would be understandable. The guards think they have them some fire nation spies, but so many people of different nations then it seems unlikely to be about spying.

Soon a guard came by attracted by the sound of all the shouting, an opportunity to learn what was going on. She moved towards the cell door to speak with the guard but the other wilder looking fire bender sprang forth with another big revealed. The fire nation moving fowards to siege Bi Sing Se? The fire nation is that deep into Earth Kingdom territory? She heard anything like that since starting to journey here and yet if it was true it was quiet disheartening. The other fire nation girl seemed to not believe it was possible but LIng didnt feel convinced.

"I wouldnt discount your people of anything. They can be quiet inventive when the want to be." She finally spoke up coldly. "I fear the villages outside the city more than the city itself. They are the once that will suffer to solve your people siege. Or used as hostages to make the city break." She pointed out talking from experience from dealing with the fire nation.

Sutar

Despite being livid at the current situation, hearing the suggestion that they avoid conflict resonated with, Sutar, especially as it came from a fellow water tribesman. "Hmph." He wasn't convinced this woman wasn't up to something however. He'd have to keep his eye on her before he got dragged into anything else. Turning to see the man who had stepped in to prevent a fight from starting, Sutar nodded his head in thanks. He sometimes lost his temper when it came to the fire nation and that could hinder his thinking. As he moved to the opposite end of the room, he heard the woman declare that an attack on the city was imminent. It wasn't hard to believe that the Fire Nation would make an attempt. They managed to attack the Air Nomads and even the Water Tribes. Why anyone would think they were out of the Fire Nation's reach was beyond him.

He turned to watch the guard shuffle off, hopefully this would somehow lead to them being set free. If Ba Sing Se was to become a battlefield soon, he'd need to rethink his plans of resting and recovering. Then again a battle would need medics and a battle of that scale would need all the medical help they could get. Perhaps He would stick around. He leaned back against the wall, arms folded across his chest.

Taal

Taal stared at Ruiko, bewildered that she knew he was an air nomad. Was he that obvious? He was wearing a robe and everything, he thought that would be enough. Perhaps being away from civilization for most of his life put him at a disadvantage when it came to hiding his identity.

His mind put the issue away for now, instead focusing on Ruiko's declaration that the fire nation would be attempting to siege Ba Sing Se. If that was the case, then they really needed to get out of this cell and help out, and who knows how long the guards will take to come back?

Taal stood up and looked around his surroundings as the others argued. There wasn't much to this room they were all stuck in, a few benches, cement walls and a gated door. However, he did notice a small window high up near the top of one of the walls, bars going straight down it but allowing sunlight to peek through. Perhaps that was their way out.

Having already been outed by the fire bender, Taal didn't think twice before pushing the air beneath him to gain height and latch onto the window bars. He pulled at the bars, but they didn't budge. That would have been too easy anyway, not up to par for a city known for its security. Hanging on by one hand, he swung himself out and looked over at the diverse cast in front of him.

"Like it or not, we're all stuck in here together, and we'll only get out if we all work together," He said, before looking over at to the two fire benders. A flash of a memory jumped into his mind. His mother burning on the forest floor, begging him not to ever go back home. Most of his people died similar ways, a long painful death. It would be easy to hate all people of the fire nation.....but no. that is not the way his mother taught him to live. Not the way of the Air Nomads.

He jumped back down to the ground, his feet not making a sound. "Hi. I'm Taal," he introduced himself, giving a small wave.

"Ruiko," Taal said with a smile, acknowledging the name she introduced. "Perhaps you can burn these bars? Or maybe you," he acknowledged the other, "I'm sorry I don't know your name."

Nuvuk
Listening to the more amiable of the two Fire Nation citizens speak Nuvuk's brow lifted in slight surprise as she quite happily revealed herself to be a firebender, while his very carefully secured waterskin might be a giveaway he certainly had no desire to advertise his bending to unknown people. He noted with slight amusement that the other Fire Nation girl had rather stereotypically already set something on fire in a tantrum.

More alarmingly Ruiko as she named herself informed the guard that she had information on a Fire Nation scheme to breach the mighty walls. "I wonder, should I be more concerned that you speak the truth or are lying in order to get the attention of the commander here? I hope it wasn't just to irritate the guards." Sighing as the herbalist who had outed himself as one of the remaining airbenders introduced himself he waved a maimed hand. "Nuvuk, if it matters to anyone." He idly returned the nod from the other Water Tribesman in the room.

Seeing Taal hopping around the bars and asking others to work on breaking out Nuvuk folded his hands passively in his lap once more. "If she were interested in escape I doubt Ruiko would have called for a no doubt very suspicious commander to come here with haste. Trying the sick prisoner ploy would have a better chance of success if that were her aim."

Ruiko

Ruiko turned to look at the other fire bender in the cell as well. "Well, plan when you have enough tanks and a few other surprises. You might be able to blow a hole in the wall, though I agree it would be a nightmare for supplies," Ruko agreed as she leaned against the cell bars. "As to how soon, well, from what I know of the plan, we probably have a few days to two weeks," she stated, unsure of the time frame herself. "That part of the plan was still in the works when I left, so I'm afraid I don't know much about that." She admitted.

Turning to the "thief" she nodded her head, "That much is true, the fire nation is very resourceful and willing to try new things if it advances its goals. Look at the technology that was used to attack the air nomads," Ruiko pointed out as she heard footsteps coming closer to the door though a little far to be right at the door. Taal then drew her attention as he suggested they should escape, "well if this was a fire nation camp, I would agree, but I think that would cause a bigger issue than we currently are in," she explained, not really sure what to make of the air nomad.

Placing her hands on her hips, she turned to face the other water bender, "Well if I was stupid enough to play that trick then I doubt I would be here right now. I could have said it at the gate but I didn't, obviously, I was trying to get the most out of my information." She pointed out before letting out a sigh. "Ruiko," she introduced herself as she was about to speak when an older-looking man walked into the room.

"So this is the fire nation girl that you spoke up?" The man inquired as the other guard who was in the room before and had returned nodded. He looked at the cell for a moment inspecting the individuals there. "Well, this is an odd group, to say the least, though I doubt they came together. So now what is it that you said earlier about an attack?" He inquired, looking Ruiko directly in the eyes.

"Well like I said, the fire nation is massing its soldiers and advanced technology. Tanks and explosives will be lobbed at the walls, though even as a child, I heard about the walls of Ba Sing Se being impenetrable. But every wall has its limit, though before I continue with the information," she paused as she reached into her pants and pulled out a map of the local area. "If you want to validate the information, I have camps marked on this map. But I want out of this cell and a place to rest. Oh, and let the others out as well," She tried to bargain as the older man looked at her for a moment.

"Well, we can let you out until we can validate the information. But we will have to place you under house arrest until then," The man motioned to the guard, who then opened the cell, and the group was taken to a house toward the center of the city. The house was up to the standards a noble would have or a visiting official, which only caused Ruiko to have some suspicions about the whole ordeal. But it was still better than being thrown out of the city or stuck in a jail cell.

Sutar

Wait was she...taking them with her? Sutar was shocked and surprised to hear that Ruiko wanted them all to be released, even though she didn't know any of them. He felt like maybe he had judged her too soon, but something at the back of his mind kept saying to keep his guard up around the Fire Nation people. He followed the guards as they were lead from the outer wall to the center of the city and setup in an extravagant home were they were essentially prisoners once again. At least now however, he could take a bath. He wasted no time finding a bathroom and washing away the depression of fire nation colonies and desert sand. Once he was cleaned and no longer smelling of sweat and loneliness, he emerged from the bathroom, bending water droplets from his white hair.

He wandered around the house, taking in the opulence of it all and trying to imagine himself living here as something other than a prisoner. His wandering around would lead him to stumble upon Ruiko and Sutar had to swallow his pride. "Ruiko." He said as he approached the younger girl. "I owe you an apology. I misjudged you and let my prejudices cloud my judgement." He was used to teaching others to apologize and own up to his mistakes, but it was weird to have to follow his own advice.

Ling remind quiet with the matter of her supposed thievery, she found a spot on one of the cell walls and rested it on it. She was rarely one to speak much, preferring to sit and absorb everyone and everything before speaking. She was a cautious one, she always was, and it was this sort of situation that one really needed to be cautious. Not just because of the fire bender, she had learned from long experience that even supposed allies had the capacity to stab you in the back. Take it one step at a time and see nothing at face value. Is Suitar as naive as he seemed, are Ruiku and Saki turncoats as they act. Is the air bender truly an air bender and how did or his family survive the genocide? Nuvuk seemed as cautious as her which she didnt know whether to think better of him or be more suspicious.

She listened as Ruiko explained the information she had on an major fire nation advance to the city. She had mixed feeling about it, if there was a major assault of the city something must be done or is the fire bender setting up some elaborate ruse. She knew the generals of the Earth Kingdom army were not stupid and will investigate. Still, she could not let it be though, if they were investigating this information she wanted to be there to be certain the right steps were taken. How she knew what the situation was and she was curently not in a position to make demands from the guards.

For the moment she did what she could, she followed the others into house arrest. She then waited to see when Ruiko was alone or at least the few of their group was about and approached her. "So, you have my thanks, you apparently selling out your people to save mine." She said being intentional with her wording, she wanted to pick a fight wanting see what the way she fought told her."That is commendable, to us at least."

Mood: Concerned

Youdron bit back a distinctly un-monk-like curse as the guards shoved him through the door. He let one of the soldiers trip him, sending him tumbling through the room in a cloud of white fibres and dust. "No one ever expects an Airbender to be clumsy." As he rolled, Youdron let his body fall into a subtle Airbending form, bleeding speed and controlling his motion while still seeming to spin blindly. He steered toward a wall and, at the moment, twisted. The momentum flipped his body into a crouch, extended hands slapping against the wall to simulate the impact sound. Letting out a practised groan, he stood "stumbled" and nearly fell over as he snatched his hat from the ground. Using the jerking motions as a distraction, he quickly scanned the room, noting its occupants.

"Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom. Quite an eclectic bunch. But this place seems a bit too upmarket for them." He frowned, squinting at the older man. "Wonder why he's gathered, everyone....." Youdron's blinked, train of thought disrupted as he saw the Airbender standing off to one side. He froze, eyes darting for an escape route. Straightening, he gave the guards a rude, if slightly shaky gesture. Putting his back to the wall, Youdron gave a shallow nod, flexing his wrists in a seemingly nervous motion. The knives strapped there shifted slightly, the feeling helping to calm Youdron. Watching the Air Nomad out of the corner of his eye, he started to examine the others more openly, affecting an air of curiosity as he scanned them for potential threats. The two from the Fire Nation were the most apparent potential threat. Neither was visibly armed, but he still ran through the Firebending responses in his mind. "As long as it isn't both, I should be fine. Just have to create a distraction, then out the window and into the crowd." He flexed his wrists again. "One each, then out the window. Just have to create some space." He glanced at the other Air Nomad. "That and avoid him."

"Oh are we all being included in this conspiracy talk now?" Nuvuk commented to no one in particular when Ruiko demanded they be released and they we're all instead ordered to be kept together elsewhere, he might have spoken up more fervently or even said he was fine where he was but the supposed attack was beginning to sound more credible and he wanted to keep himself closer to the potential action.

As the motely group was whisked into the city he openly gaped at the scale of it all, an incredible area of space built to keep those within safe from the dangers of the outside world but it just as surely severed many of them from all it had to offer.

Within the new more opulent prison he examined the space feeling ill at ease, he could count on his remaining fingers the number of times he'd slept within four walls in the past five years and most of those had been a charitably offered barn or similar space not built for luxury. Taking a seat on one of the plush cushions he shifted awkwardly then placed it to one side leaving him resting on the bare floor. "So, why are we here?" He asked Ruiko without preamble. "Unless I am very mistaken no one else has such intriguing titbits to share with the local officials, is it merely out of guilt believing we were imprisoned by association with you or the other one?"

Seeing the freshly bathed Sutar turning apologetic he smirked slightly. "Ah found the way into your heart already has she?"

Saki would remain uncharacteristically quiet as the discussions within the cell took place. Balling her hands into fists as she forced herself to not lose her temper with the guards. She wanted to know Aika was safe and in good hands. However, Saki figured that her Ostrich Horse was probably just kept in the stables. It's just being unsure about it that made her uneasy. Plus, she didn't have her sword. She'd have to ask for her belongings back once she had more cards to play, right now it's just-

"House arrest!?" She says with a groan. "Lame. But whatever. Better than a cell." Saki would comment before being led to their new holding house. Which, was actually pretty quality. "Hmph. This place isn't so bad." She would comment, removing her more luxurious vest and coat and hanging them up. Leaving the blonde in a black undershirt and red pants. Saki would then go on to explore the space, slowly walking from room to room getting familiar with its layout before going into the kitchen just off to the side of the main living area so she could still listen and see the group she was stuck with. Thus, as was often the case. Saki started thinking with her stomach. So, she started to rummage through the kitchen for something to make. Maybe if there was enough here, she'd make a meal for everyone. "Hey, Hog Monkeys!" She would call to the group. "I'm gonna try to make something for us to eat. If any of you are vegetarian let me know now."
