btw I got the sense that I'd be much more successful using Wild Empathy but I wasn't sure if that had to do with calming down animals because it says it just improves the initial attitude.

Hum... I wonder if Bronze could learn to talk to woodland critters... Specializing in All Rabbit Kind. Would The Great Thrif Approve (Sherwood check spelling I know you read the Book)

In my mind, Gerran is glaring at both Otiorin and Wolf for those posts. Nice. =)

Killfire: Just about anything is possible if you work at it hard and long enough. =)

Wolf and Kaerri: It is possible to use both Wild Empathy and Handle Animal on the same creature(s). One is an extraordinary ability, the other a skill. In this case, it is an excellent combination to use as the former allows the animal(s) to trust you, then you call upon that trust to guide them to act in a certain manner.

Since both characters are rangers (and possess Wild Empathy), I presume you'll want to use it. For the sake of time, I hope you don't mind if I roll them for both of you (storyteller haz dark forest-green d20)?

I have rolled. The results, among other things, are in the in-character thread. =)

Killfire sez,

"Hum, how about leaving my wagon here with me, you could hitch up the other horses and take the Ward Wagon on faster?" ponders. "With you guys moving around so much there isn't much I can do about The Forgewagon anyway, not to mention I need to make some armor and weapons for Miss 'Paw."
Being concerned with Miss 'Paws well-being Bronze hands over a cup of cool water, and hands her a warm blankie, and fluffy pillow.
Hey, bud. I don't know how much you have read about this journey the Wanderers are on, but the total distance is two-weeks-by-horse to Highwind. The idea is to go as far north as you can. If the Wanderers leave Bronze and the wagon, they likely won't be back as the whole idea is to head only north (in other words, I don't believe the other Wanderers will agree to this). Besides this, the Road of Kings is damned dangerous to be left alone on (even for 7th level characters like yours). If Bronze were left in a horseless wagon when monsters came along, it would be him alone against them.

As for the interaction between Bronze and Mamapaws, allow me to start off the next in-character scene with that interaction, if that's all right? =)

Dann, you make my head hurt. But in a good way. Ambushing Luna for a simple little accident that she said she was sorry for. I just gotta say, Sparkle, watch you ass, because it's on now!

Oh, get her back! One-up her if you can! Show her who's in charge! Ha ha! =)

Behind the Scenes: The entire time I'm writing this, I'm laughing and thinking, "She was truly sorry! You little bitch!" And she's replying, "I know she was. But I am a dragon - this is how we all conduct ourselves." I reply, "But she's not a dragon!"

And she just "looks" at me and just grins, "So? I love her, but I am getting her back!" What a little... there's no other word for it... bitch! =)

Thank gosh she's not a full-grown big dragon!

The one Sparkle really wants to get back at isn't Luna, but Pecker, for what he did. She hasn't forgotten. =)

This latest in-character post is dedicated to moms everywhere. Happy Mother's Day, everyone! 8D

Mamapaw/Sabrefang - A character created with elements of both my mother and Kaerri's mother. I love them both so much! Hooray for moms!

One of my mother's favorite songs... =)

(Pats Danni on the head) "It's ok there is medication for this... here take your meds now" Fills glass of cold milk, and sets out a plate of cookies. "There there, talking to yourself is ok, it's when it splits of and starts to talk back that it get's interesting"

Different voice "Yeah and you know everything right?!"

Original voice "You SHUT-UP! I know what I'm doing"

Third Voice "Stop fighting you two, your waking the rest of us up"

Several voices "Yeah be quiet" "Yeah us other personalities are trying to sleep!" "STFU you two!" "BAH!" "Sheesh just wanted quiet..."

I want my Cookies and milk!

Dannigan I was thinking on the cart thing that Bronze has to have time to work on the stuff. It's gonna be hard for B to do anything while on the move without at least building the Forge part of the cart up, and we can't wait a few days while he does that. Is there the possibility that he can do the cart upgrade while on the move? Then there is the ore, and the stuff I should be making for the party, doing the enchanting type stuff, and all that. Eh I'm probably thinking in the wrong direction, totally off the wall zones and stuff. Lemme sneep on it and see if we all can come up with a way that B can do his trade while on the move.

@killfire Re: Forge-wagon upgrades on the move. Yes! Bronze currently has the skills to start making what he needs (and if working alone, he will need lots of time). Remember that the horses of both wagons need rest and maintenance and Bronze can work on the wagon while those hours pass by.

Keep focused on what you want Bronze to do and items will come into the game for all to enjoy!

As for "hearing voices," I have got to speak my mind on this... Hee hee. =) Good Killfire, I see that you're being silly, but my method of storytelling is nothing like that and never has been like that. =) I have possessed for many years a highly-creative imagination and the hyperactivity and discipline to focus it where I will, and a good-natured love of sharing that fun with others. When Sparkle ambushed Luna just now? Dannigan had little to do with it (I just authorized it, you might say). The silly character, Sparkle, did the rest. All I did was type. I did not set Luna up so much as I let Sparkle do as she pleased. I am serious. =)

Brother, this is not schizophrenia, multiple-personality disorder, or anything of the sort - this is the act of a long-time storyteller doing what he does best. As Sir Ian McKellan once said, "Actors inhabit." That's all I'm doing and I've been doing it now for decades. I know my own mind. =)

Here's a good example of doing what I do: Remember those characters you and Sherwood enjoyed so much when we were together? Of course you do! All this time later, you still bring them up in conversation! That is fantastic! But that could not occur if I (Dannigan) got in the way of those characters. In fact, I screw up characters when I try to "act" like them. It just doesn't work! Instead, I try to "call them forth" and I let the characters decide their actions. There is nothing loony about it. Many professional writers do the same thing. They are equally-used to people "not getting it" (though I wonder how they handle it when someone teases them about needing medication). =)

I have been roleplaying like this for so long that my ADHD works for me instead of against me. Think about it: At this moment, I have (and forgive me if I miss someone)... Bria, Powerpaw, Mamapaw, Stewart, Whittle, Bonny, Arfy, Barfy, Snarfy, Pecker, Sparkle, Vardadraug, Star, and the three Daughters of Summertime in my head, ready to go, if any of your (single) characters interact with them in any way.

This does not include Gerran, the woman-with-the-whip, the battle-mage, Skaagenrackner, Karthas, his three minotaur henchmen, Travis's Trainers, and Grimdell and his Guardians who are all ready to roleplay at the drop of a hat. Each of them are well-thought-out, different characters all with their own dreams, goals, and ways of going about life. And you guys haven't even made it to Highwind yet! =)

This would drive an average person nuts. Not me! This is my definition of fun!

This is my method of storytelling (my "martial art" if you will). And no one else has to understand how it works - just me. All you guys have to do is tell me what your character wants to do. And we haven't even gotten into how I make stories yet, or how the rest of Sharseya that you've left behind still operates in your absence. =)

So, in short, brother, I'm not crazy. I am what I am, I know what I am, I am comfortable with who and what I am, I am perfectly sane, I love what I do, and I have like-minded online friends (you) to enjoy it with here!

Hey! Wait a minute! Isn't that what some people call happiness? =)

Honor and fun,

Dann =)

Dann you silly person I was trying to come up with an excuse to be silly, remember I was THERE when you first started serious GMing type thing. And for that I'm gonna whapt you with another fluffy pillow, and give ya a plate of steak, baked tater, and salad. (WHAPT! Hands over plate) Now I powk you (powk) lol.

@killfire Did you want to reply to Kaerri's post? Bren is asking Bronze if he wants to help?

Once I see that resolution, I take it the Wanderers will get moving toward Melshaef's Tree.

Hum, I used to be able to speed read rather well, but I'm missing things... Hum... Lemme go look again.

Ah got it, didn't miss it, whew. Just needed time to come up with some decent replies and so on. As for leaving B behind with the Forge Wagon, mebe I could build I high powered fusion reactor, with a set of mech rotational actuators, and mebe put some ferro-fiber armor on the wagon, or mebe some interweave hard-carbon-nitrate fibers... Oh wait! Wrong World! EEP! lol.

So B can work steel as we move along? Or do we mean he can do the work at rest stops? If he can work as the cart moves along, maybe the Meadowsweets can drive, and B can make Miss 'Paw a sword, and dagger set. That's kind of important. She needs something to use.

That kinda depends on if Mamapaw is an adventurer, or a civilian, sort of like how Stewart is not a combatant. She may be fine with her claws and teeth, but we do need to know what her agenda is; does she want to go back home, or is she planning on staying here for the long term? Luna will be asking some of these questions once she is done getting kissy faced with Wolf.

Get a room, you two!

(<_<)

(>_>)

( O.o )

....Stewart, this wagon's got soundproofing right? Right??

GM had asked how much hide we were taking, but it was late and I didn't have enough brain to think about it at the time. I'm guessing enough for a couple shirts/jerkins/whatevers of leather armor, and maybe a couple yards extra for who knows what? I don't know how long that would take, though. Bren doesn't want to be more than 5-10 minutes at this, but Bronze helping (and maybe Otiorin?) should help with time constraints.

Wolf sez,

Unless we live in fu**king England.
This made me laugh out loud. =)

The answer is: we don't, and your storyteller is American, so right side of the road it is. =)

Well if you look on the map you will see that it is nowhere near in front of the wagons, and the wagons were presumably traveling along the middle or right side of the rode.

Unless we live in fu**king England.
This goes here. Painfully obvious. To everyone except me, that is :/

Glad it made you laugh, because that was the intention. I wasn't sure if I could get the sarcasm and all through the web.

It was inspired by this video here:

Dannigan, Can B skin the entire critter if he makes a decent roll on say leatherworking? It would a shame to let all that monster leather go to waist. Reason I'm asking is 5 to 10 mins is a bit short of time, and B doesn't like to waist an opportunity fer some good leather, so with a good roll that might let him pull it off.

Killfire. No way in hell with the 5-10 minutes that Bren (your party leader) has declared he wants to leave in. The Craven is the size of a school bus. I agree about it being a shame and more than a good opportunity, but a really rare opportunity. While a good leatherworker (like Bronze) knows where and how to cut to best effect, what he needs is "moar" hands (or paws) cutting.

May I recommend Bronze call Powerpaw over?

Sherwood sez,

Luna looks up at this, and adds, "Besides, fire may not affect it at all; it was fireproof when alive, after all."
This. Thank you, Sherwood. I was hoping someone would realize this before you guys started trying to set the Craven's corpse alight (and being your Storyteller, I don't allow myself to remind you of things like that). Setting the Craven on fire? You have better chances of teaching an ogre how to read Luna's spellbook... =)

Heya folks! Kaerri (her computer is turned off) sez da following:

"If more people are interested in hydra-hide, Bren doesn't mind staying here a little longer to get everybody what they want, but so far, only Bronze and Otiorin have seemed interested in taking pieces of the hydra with us. It doesn't have to be mentioned in-character, but if anybody else wants hydra-pieces, we can take the extra time to get them their share as well."

Would any parts of the hydra make any good spell components? Perhaps not for Luna, but something that can be saved for other spellcasters?

None that I can think of.

Most of the time, when I require a specific spell component, it is for a higher-level spell that has an effect that I have to keep an eye on. A good example is Permanency which has a specific gold piece value of diamond dust as a material component. Permanency is one of those game-changing spells that if you let your players spam it, before you know it, the whole party is too much and then the game just gets ridiculous and out-of-hand (i.e. not worth playing. Similar to the dreaded "Monty Haul" campaigns of super-early Dungeons and Dragons). So, in putting a "soft cap" on it, you make it very valuable, useful, and in some cases, cherished.

I'm certain you know most of this; I just feel like expressing it for the sake of clarity in Sharseya.

Wolf is quite content with what he's got and I don't think he'd have any uses for hydra hide. That's why he escorted Luna inside without involving himself in the butchery *woof*

Please read the In-Character post prior to reading this...

And that, friends, is the end of Chapter Five. Onto Chapter Six: Roundabout!

I have also toned down Bria's pink text color (the previous pink was really bright on our screens; how is this current color on your screens?).

Also, it seems that the alert system is continuing to be funky, so I am going to let folks know this way. @killfire @Captain Hesperus @Wolf Rawrrr @Sherwood (Kaerri already knows). Also, please don't miss: JayTee's Alert PSA! Even if you already know this info, it's still a great laugh! =)

Hey! You! Yes, you in the party that just dropped a 10-headed pyrohydra in less than 1 combat round!

Read the in-character goodies before opening this next spoiler? =)

Here are some of the short-term things I would like to get done in Chapter Six: Roundabout! What's on each of your lists? =)

1.
Powerpaw has something to say to his fellow Wanderers.

2. Bria has questions for every last one of you.

3. Expansion on character histories (Otiorin is from the Gray Elven city of Waterwind. Luna appears to be from Summerset. Wolf might be from a small hunting and fishing village called Dalsus [waaay south of you]).*

4. Expansion on character families. I can make them for you or you can shoot them by me for my approval. Whatever you like. In the end, your character's family will fit and add to our game.*

5. What do you want each of your teammates to know about each other? Maybe Otiorin doesn't want the other Wanderers to know about his quest for the Sunfire Blade? It is his option.

6. The prismalcum/cosmic ore can be shaped (you have enough for 1 item per Wanderer). The trick is, finding out the method and means to forge it (here's a freebie for Bronze - normal items won't affect the prismalcum, including normal fire).

7. What tactics do you want your party to know in-character about your hero?

8. What kind of things does your character like and dislike and what of these (if any) do you share with your fellow Wanderers?

9. What are your character's goals? Luna wants to be the best fire-mage in Sharseya of her generation. What exactly does that entail? Certain spells? Or certain victories over something out there in Sharseya?

10. Powerpaw wants to share some of the loot he earned with Dubble Trubble with the rest of you.

11. The Daughters of Summertime are not done with you yet. They would like to reward the rest of you before they make their leave. What will you do with their gifts?

12. Some of you still have a Signature Ability to choose. Let's get it chosen, otherwise it's a Useless Ability. =)

13. Bronze has a boat-load of possibilities to start making. What is he making and what is being put on the proverbial back-burner? Some ideas that have already been mentioned are the Forge-wagon (big undertaking, especially if he's doing it solo), throwing hammers for Powerpaw, armor for Mamapaw, weapon(s) for Mamapaw, not to mention the prismalcum!

* 4 & 5 come with the option to opt-out. If, for some reason, you really don't want to make a history or family within Sharseya, you don't have to and it won't come up. Just please don't feel left out when we run into the families of other characters. They want you to feel included, too. *incoming Mamapaw hug for you. "Ohhh!"* =)

We can go as deep or as shallow as is reasonable and practical. Still, the longer we just adventure, the more these things will pile up and not get answered, settled, or rewarded. =)

Finally, Kaerri has told me that since Melshaef has already been warned (and rescued and reunited with her son, etc.), she would like to have the entire Craven skinned (which will provide a total of 96 units of pyrohydra hide. Think of 1 unit as a glove, 4 units as a full set leather, studded leather, or hide armor, and 12 to outfit a large-sized creature with armor or your horses with barding).

I am prepared to fast-forward the Craven-carving scene and get the Wanderers on the move. Stewart will be driving the Adventurers' Wagon and the Meadowsweets will be driving the Forge-wagon-in-the-making. The horses, by the way, can trot until dawn at which point they will need to rest, be fed, maintained, then sleep, all to do it again the next late morning.

That will put the Wanderers having a long night's sleep and breakfast. Bria's ideal spot for the Roundabout would be at (or in) the Great Pool.

Your thoughts?
