This might be a fun time for Wolf to cast Entangle, if he wants to try to keep anyone from running away. It's a Reflex save, though; odds are the Painless are decent at that (being rogue-types of various descriptions).
My dear Kaerri, you read my mind :) I was waiting to try just that. Hopefully it spells their demise (get it? :D ) but if it doesn't that's ok too *woof*

Btw I have no idea what to roll for Entangle. It doesn't mention dice anywhere in the description of spells or this particular spell.

Ha ha ha! That reply is terrific! 8D

Entangle requires that Wolf cast the spell (no roll required under normal circumstances. There would be a die roll involved if, say, Wolf were trying to cast inside this particular noxious cloud or Cast Defensively).

As for the results, once again Real Life is intervening, so I will post later. =)

@Captain Hesperus Please roll a Will Saving Throw for Otiorin here. This is not an effect his powerful Ring of Mind Shielding can assist him with, nor is it a sleep effect.

@All. Bria "wants to see" the results of this saving throw prior to her action.

NOTE: I highly-recommend reading the in-character post prior to clicking this map or reading below. =)

(BIG THANKS TO WOLF! Kaerri helped too! Wooo!)

Battle-map notes:
The yellow border indicates the area containing the noxious gas. "Painless" figure beside Gerran is the woman with the whip.

Combat initiative order:

20 - The Painless
(Painless 2 through 4 are wounded. Gerran and the woman with the whip are fleeing south as fast as they can. Battle-mage has cast Expeditious Retreat, run west, and is now in Shandra's Evergreen).

15 - Bria (Hasted. Ring of Force Shield active. Wearing Amulet of Mielikki. In fighting stance. Unarmed. Just cast Cure Critical Wounds on Powerpaw's mother a second time, rose, and exited the cloud).

14 - Luna (Hasted. Sparkle status: Just woke up inside the Adventurers' Wagon and is wondering what in the hell is going on. Luna is wearing Bria's Glamered armor, and Luna's Ring of Protection +1 and Ring of Deflection +2. Unarmed. Just cast Fireball and baked the asses of six now-even-uglier ogres who are now fleeing from her!).

12 - Powerpaw (Hasted. Using Maul +2 and is having the time of his life! "MOOOOOARR!!").

12 - Mamapaw (Standing, looking motherly with a small log (greatclub) in her hand. Unarmored. Even-Moar-Frightened-out-of-her-fur, but glad her son is near. She will run to safety as instructed on her next turn).

11 - Otiorin (Hasted. Using Moonlit Edge +3. Attacking battle-mage).

10 - 2/10 Ogres (armed with greatclubs. Just crapped their pants upon seeing the Craven for the first time. Their cohorts are fleeing and they are too!).

9 - Bren (Hasted. Injured. Using Battle axe +2 and heavy metal shield. Just dropped one ogre and wounded another).

3 - The Craven (has just arrived and is eager for victims. Preferably tasty victims...).

1 - Wolf (Hasted. Using Longbow +2. Pecker status: Asleep inside the Adventurers' Wagon).

As if seeing the picture wasn't enough, a small but important note below lets me know that it not only breathes fire but has 2x the number of heads seen on picture. Great.

And of course even the goddamn huge lizard is faster than poor old Wolf :( *whine*

I suppose if killing it with fire is not an option, maybe we can...

Is the cloud of noxious fumes fading out at all, or is it still in force?

The cloud is fading, but not quickly, and is still in effect.

Again, even if it isn't your character's turn, if your characters have thoughts or something short to say, you're welcome to post it.

EDIT: Wolf, I'm with you - rolling initiative must be the worst time to roll a one.

Sherwood asks,

Can I make a Knowledge check to see what Luna would know of the monster?
Yes. Upon the appearance of a monster, one can make a quick Knowledge check to see what they know about the creature. Though Luna has ranks in Knowledge: Monster Lore, this particular creature is a magical beast and Luna is allowed a Knowledge: Arcana roll instead.

Anyone else who would like to try a Knowledge: Arcana or Knowledge: Monster Lore attempt (or both!) is free to do so in this thread. Good luck!

Bren wants to try.

I think Otiorin has found a new playmate in Gerran! 8D

Friends 4 lyfe!

On a related note, Bren recommends cutting off Gerran's head and donating it to a priest of St. Cuthbert. 'Cause, y'know, once it's been destroyed on the Altar of Retribution, they ain't comin' back. ( ;) )

Bren has a Knowledge: Monster Lore result of 20. Here is what he knows:

Monster Lore - Result of 20.

Your character has studied enough to know what all of you are facing - the Craven is a pyrohydra.

Strong-willed and fast like striking snakes, the pyrohydra is an extremely-difficult creature to take on head-to-head.

Like a normal hydra, the creature heals very quickly. Severing its heads often causes two heads to sprout from the stump unless acid or fire is added to the stump (a pyrohydra is completely immune to fire so either or acid or cold damage work to achieve this aim). This creature can breathe fire with each of its heads in a 15 foot cone, whereupon each target is free to make a Reflex saving throw for half damage, or it can bite. Occasionally, it will attempt to grapple (and with its size modifier and strength, it tends to win).

Killing a pyrohydra means causing so much damage to it that it falls unconscious and then takes damage equal to its Constitution score. Only when it is killed does it stop regenerating.

Furthermore, a 10-headed hydra is considered a 10 Hit Dice creature (the Wanderers each are 7 Hit Dice creatures). A 10-headed pyrohydra is clearly deadlier than its more "mundane" counterpart, but just as intelligent (beast-level intelligence).

More can be learned if someone beats a DC of 25 or higher...

Battle-map notes:
(Bria has moved two squares to her west, putting her to the east of the southern-most horse pulling the Adventurers' Wagon and just north of Gerran's toxic cloud). The yellow border indicates the area containing the noxious gas. "Painless" figure beside Gerran is the woman with the whip.

Combat initiative order:

14 - Luna (Hasted. Sparkle status: Just woke up inside the Adventurers' Wagon and is wondering what in the hell is going on. Luna is wearing Bria's Glamered armor, and Luna's Ring of Protection +1 and Ring of Deflection +2. Unarmed. 11 - Otiorin (Hasted. Using Moonlit Edge +3. Was paralyzed by the woman with the whip. Was immediately freed by Bria who changed her action).

Hey, Sherwood. Sorry bud, but according to the Dice Roller, there were two rolls on the Knowledge: Arcana check? I don't know what glitch might have happened here, but I feel I should take the first of the two rolls:

Knowledge Arcana roll:

Sherwood rolled 1 die of 20 faces, total: 3+15 = 18

Rolled on: May-07-2015, 03:22am

See dice roll details

3
This means that while Luna would know that this is indeed a hydra (she does have 5 ranks in Knowledge: Arcana and this creature, like today, is common enough in Sharseya for her to be aware that it exists), and it clearly breathes fire (and therefore would likely be immune to it, like dragons are known to be). Beyond this, she would not know much else at this point (her result being 18). Still, the Ball Lightning is not a bad idea against a giant reptile. =)

Also, I think we're seriously out of our depth here. Thanks, Powerpaw. :(

Captain Hesperus

Otiorin has Knowledge: Arcana and is allowed a check to see for himself. Did you want him to have a roll like Bren and Luna have done?

Just wait. One good thing about the Ball Lightning spell is that it uses a Move action to steer it, leaving me free to cast other spells. I can hit someone with Displacement and a Shield spell, and I have a couple of Enlarge Other.

If you could please, @Dannigan i don't trust that my roll would result in me thinking Pyrohydras are made of ice cream and little girls' dreams.

Captain Hesperus

My pleasure, sir. =)

The die roll came up 7 (+4) = 11. He knows what he sees, pretty much. However, one thing should come into play in a Sharseyan rogue/sorcerer's mind of his level - creatures who thrive in fire hate cold and often take double-damage from it (*points at the newly-improved Moonlit Edge*).

As for Powerpaw, despite his surprise and delight (especially at the discovery of his mother being here at all, much less being rescued), he'll feel sorry enough once this escapade is over. Somewhere in that fuzzy brain of his, he knew he lost control when he saw her beaten and imprisoned - it's not something he's happy about at all. Of course, seeing his mom in that condition at all kind of cracked his mind too...

To Cap'n: Oh! And something else I feel I should bring up - As big and as bad as the Craven is, you have a fighting chance against this thing (if I were certain of your demise, I'd be quickly typing, "Your characters are in mortal danger"!). I see this as the first true test of these new Wanderers' abilities (new meaning post-Kitrin, Brendoran leading). Not that I meant this encounter to be a test - Gerran and his "lovely" woman cohort want to see you guys dead even more than their original target, Melshaef (and that's saying something!). =)

I recommend, once again, reading the in-character post prior to reading below. =)

Battle-map notes:
(I screwed up again concerning distance - Bria has moved six squares to her west, putting her between the southern-most horses pulling the Adventurers' Wagon, and just north of Gerran's toxic cloud). The yellow border indicates the area containing the noxious gas. "Painless" figure beside Gerran is the woman with the whip.

12 - Powerpaw (Hasted. Missing 42 hit points. Using Maul +2 and just made the best non-critical-hit maul-strike of all time. "When we win dis, I iz takin' da Craven's red text color!").

12 - Mamapaw (Running, with a small log (greatclub) in her hand. Unarmored. Less-frightened-out-of-her-fur, and glad her son and his new friends are near. She has run to safety near Luna and Bria).

11 - Otiorin (Hasted. Using Moonlit Edge +3. Was paralyzed by the woman with the whip. Was immediately freed by Bria who changed her action).

3 - The Craven (has just arrived, failed his save vs. Luna's Ball Lightning, and gotten crunched with a max-damage maul hit to da ding-ding... NOT his day... =) Craven is suffering the Sickened condition for a few rounds).

1 - Wolf
(Hasted. Using Longbow +2. Pecker status: Asleep inside the Adventurers' Wagon).

@Captain Hesperus Cap'n, that's a hit (but your attack bonuses should be +10; +1 from Luna's Haste spell)!

Roll damage (I will double the cold damage result). Then you are allowed to attack again (Luna's Haste spell provides a second attack at full bonus under these circumstances).

Damage roll: Short sword +3 (cold) 1d6 damage

If I recall correctly, at higher levels, a spellcaster can use their familiar to deliver a touch spell to another person after getting it cast upon them. Can Sparkle do that for Luna?

I think Bronze needs to act, Momma-Paw needs help. How does one start sneaking in to a battlezone thingie to rescue someone? Meaning how does Bronze, join the fight, but not necessarily fight, I've got in my mind that he's going to try and get something to Ma'Paw to help protect and fight if she chooses. Like "Grab a bar of steel for a club, then tuck a plate under his arm, and start sneaking his way into the battle thingie"?

Roll for initiative, make a stealth roll to avoid being spotted, go forth and conquer.

Also, check the map, she's made it out of melee and is as safe as circumstances allow at the moment.

I also noted that you have the DC save for Luna's Ball Lightning at 19. I have a Feat that raises up my Evoker spells by one, so the actual save DC number for future rounds is 20. Not that it makes a difference in this round; it already failed its save and got shocked.

BTW, @Kaerri, good roll on that Crit! That has to hurt! Not quite as much as a maul to the wanker, but still, it hurts.
