At the Adventurers' Table

Just so everyone is clear (and I was going to write this after Bria was done), here's what I'm looking for in the Roundabout:

1. Tactics talk. Have your Wanderer teach the other Wanderers about your character in combat. Teach us about your class and how you choose to play it (in your character's words). What are your character's favorite weapons? Spells? Feats? Tactics? Special abilities? In short, what can your character do and how do you like to do it? Do you like flanking or hanging back? Do you prefer an honorable fight or do you prefer otherwise?

2. Background/Aspirations. Get into what your Wanderer would like the rest to know about your character on a personal level (that is, outside of combat). What kind of life did you come from? What do you expect from yourself? What do those in your background expect of you? What are your goals?

Want more ideas or questions? Please see the first page of this chapter. Have any new questions? I am here for you. =)

I was wondering if anyone had any questions for Luna. That's what I was waiting on.

Captain Hesperus

@Sherwood sez,

"While there is no prohibition in my order of magic against being involved in a relationship with others, there is some pressure put upon us to keep ourselves focused on the craft, and only be involved with other magic users. (bold mine)

Hey, bud! Uh, while the first two parts of this sentence are totally true, the last part is untrue. Boccob's people don't give a darn
who you date. They mainly care about how many mysteries you can unravel, how much knowledge you can prove true, how many theories you can debunk, and especially how much magic you can add to his people as a whole. Dating is one of those things Boccob couldn't care less about (at least for Boccob the neutral god of magic in Sharseya). Feel free to edit that post if you care to (and did you want to change your initial post concerning the Kaftan clan to the Cellan clan?).

Also, according to what I'm seeing here, you want Luna to have a high-level illusionist father who has high standards for her, thinks of her as his little princess, and can be hard to please? I can create a character with those designs. As for the mom, you just want her to be glad-hearted and exuberant?

It wasn't Boccob's people that I was thinking of, but the teachers of the magic school. If that is one and the same in your world, I can change that. For the parents, you have hit the nail on the head with how I pictured them.

It is. Boccob is the God of magic and I was under the impression you wanted that to be Luna's big school (especially during our conversation concerning Luna recognizing Karthas in Boccob's "Knowledge College."). There are three major ways to get training in Summerset. The first is Boccob, the second is the university (which is not religious), and the third is home-schooled. Think of the first two as Real Life colleges that one must apply for and be accepted.

I misunderstood. I'll edit the post for accuracy, and I went back and changed the name in the earlier post of Luna's for the Roundabout.

Good deal. =)

Remember, folks - the things we are adding to this game are being added to a world that's over 15 years old. Characters you help to create, histories, etc. This is how worlds come to be.

Whatever you would like to create, I will try to fit in. =)

Hey, Dann? I have a question that I wanted to ask earlier but forgot all about it until now.

If Sabrefang turned out to be Melshaef, then just how long was she here in Sharseya? Ok, that's more of a question for her (and I intend to have Wolf ask her that), but what I will ask you is:

According to the story that Wolf and many other rangers and druids know and retell of Melshaef, how long ago was that event? Because I got the impression that it was something that happened decades if not a century ago, and that this legendary druid is not even alive anymore simply due to the passage of time - which after meeting Sabrefang/Melshaef I am not inclined to think anymore. Wolf would have to know the alleged time when this takes place at least *woof*

It's about time someone asked this. =) Melshaef's story is quite recent (only a couple of months ago) and Melshaef's Tree was the most-recent of checkpoints along the Road of Kings. Melshaef's rising fame is in part because it is a "recent" event and was most notable due to the number of people helped by a single Forest-friend; "he" is seen as a rising star among the poor in this neck of the woods.

And speaking of time, since we have gotten this far into our campaign, I should start tracking it. We do seem to have a serious campaign going after all.

I don't believe I specified before. It is definitely the year 1118, and since Bren is out of his six months of retirement...

The present day is Thursday (or Thors-day if you worship the God of Thunder), September 18th, 1118. Time: Noon. =)

Ach, I bet we all forgot about the time. It can't hurt to keep track of course, so let's not lose it now that we found it *rawrrr*

Somehow, as soon as it occurred to me to ask I also knew that you were dying to hear it from someone! (^U^)

Hah! Our Wolf is quite perceptive! =)

And I forgot to add a little bit extra... travel time to Highwind. It is a two-week-by-horse journey from Summerset to Highwind (or from Summerset south to the Forest Eternal, should you head that route someday). If memory serves, the Wanderers are on their
third day of this fourteen-day trek (having started off one day's ride from Summerset when you first met Bilal and Grimdell's Guardians).

But we're not going to play out each remaining day on the road, right? Extraordinary things don't happen literally every day, not even to a company as troublesome as ours *howl*

I'm expecting chapter seven to start with an approach to Highwind.

Ah, good Wolf, I would not recommend expecting chapter seven to start anywhere in particular...

In my time as a storyteller, characters can suddenly do the darndest things (like up and leave during a Roundabout to Mielikki-knows-where). So, even I don't know where chapter seven will begin -
that all depends on the players. PCs (Player Characters) up and take off on a moment's notice, often to aims of their own, and come upon things that may or may not help in their grand scheme of things (this happened all of the time in Kaerri's first party).

Mine is
not a pre-written story where players must go from A to B, but instead a "sandbox" where you Choose Your Own Adventure (like the beloved book series of that title). In other words, if the Wanderers bee-line it straight for Highwind for the next 12 days, then yes, barring random encounters, you should make it to Highwind. If instead, by the end of the Roundabout (assuming it completes), you decide to investigate more of the wild and mysterious Shandra's Evergreen, then that's what happens. You have the freedom to go where and when you choose. The world will continue to spin no matter the course set, and things will happen accordingly.

Take, for example, Otiorin's last private jaunt into the woods. He went out there seeking privacy. You know what he returned with. =)

So, yes.
The choice is yours. Me? I'm just the guy who tells you what happens when you get there. =)

Fair enough. I understand and respect that, and I'm thankful to have my character in such good hands *woof*

I was operating under the assumption that we are bee-lining it straight for Highwind, because I think everyone agreed on that common goal. Then I suppose I did get a bit tangled up in the usual, video game way of thinking that we're on our way to a set destination which will act as our city hub for a number of missions until we move on, and so forth. You're right, I should draw the line between thinking ahead and what I just did (@V@)

After all, Wolf is just looking for wild things to tackle. If there was a sufficiently interesting random encounter along the way, he'd probably suddenly be as determined to pursue that as he was bent on reaching Highwind *rawrrr*

Wolf sez,

Spoken like a true adventuring Ranger!

It appears the Wanderers don't have any more questions for Luna. If this is not the case, please post away. If it is, who would like to take the fighting stick next? If none are ready, I will have Powerpaw go.

Bren appears ready, but willing to defer if someone else wants it next.

O.K. Since Bren has an established background, that will give Killfire (?), Wolf, and Cap'n more time with theirs.

Mine's good to go. Just need a reminder of the Grey Elven city's name.

Captain Hesperus

Wall o' text, sorry, but had lots of questions to answer. ;)

That's on me. I let Powerpaw and Bria ask some good ones of the party leader.

Cap'n, the Elven city's name is Waterwind. Would you like Otiorin to go after Bren?
