I was hoping you'd ask. =) 3d20 please (no modifiers)! I hope to provide the results of that roll later today. For now, sleepy-time. Good night! =)

@Wolf Rawrrr @Sherwood @Captain Hesperus @killfire @Kaerri Please read this post prior to the in-game post? Combat has been initiated and I think there are things you should know. Please roll for Initiative here afterward. =)

Cap'n sez,

"How about I toss in a Thunderstone, we all shield our eyes..."
Thunderstones affect ears, not eyes. Think of a sudden and powerful thunderclap (upwards of 120 decibels; it hurts to hear it, even though it doesn't cause hit point damage).

Sherwood sez,

"That could work, but look at the size of the cavern. Its quite large... "
Please reread the situation? Luna seems to be talking about a cave she has never seen. From your position, none of you can see the cavern Karthas and his minotaurs are in. Maybe she is referring to the caverns you made it through to get here?

You are all in a tunnel that sharply turns to the right (so, no line of sight on the cavern until you walk down the tunnel). The cavern that the baddies are in appears to be (from what your ears are telling you) about 50 feet from your current position in the tunnel. While the caverns you have come through are quite large, there is no telling how big or small each next cavern might be. Also, aside from the voices she is hearing, Luna does not know the contents of the cavern ahead (which I have yet to describe to you); this could be important later.

Sherwood sez,

"Use your judgement for any targets of opportunity to use your stinger on."
O.K. A reminder: Sparkle is extremely reluctant to use her stinger on anyone (something last mentioned a very many months ago, hence this reminder). Her poison is not the poison from Pathfinder, but instead is the deadlier version found in 1st Edition D&D (which, unlike the former, has a 25% to kill!). Sparkle hates to kill. On her own, she does so only when she must. Also, her poison calls for a Fortitude save, a Bloodland Minotaur Fighter with their strong constitutions use that as their best save, a fact your party would be aware of. Lastly, she knows she is likely to get hurt. Her camouflage is excellent, but once discovered, her armor class makes her an easy target for melee fighters like these. She is doing as Luna asked (taking to the air and looking about for targets of opportunity); I just want to make you aware of these things as she does so.

Poking her head up just enough to spot her targets, she gathers her mystic energies into a burning ball in her mind. When ready, Luna raises up her hands and aims. "Fireball!"
Oh! O.K. The spell is thrown and combat thus initiated.

In order for Luna to do this, she must walk down the tunnel about 25 feet, look to her right, aim into the cavern, see her targets, and cast the spell. Luna is throwing her Fireball at Karthas, I take it.

From the context of your posts, this is what I'm seeing: Luna is looking into the cavern just long enough to spot a target (preferably Karthas the Master Wizard) and Fireball it. She can see the robed Karthas with his glassy orb in hand and therefore he gets the Fireball. The minotaurs are not clumped together, but spread about the wellspring.

@All Sorry, but due to the circumstances there is going to be a lot information coming your way before combat ensues. Feel free to ask questions.

At this point, let me make this quick (time for work).

@Wolf Rawrr @Kaerri Wolf and Bren are able to tell something important from the tracks - there are the tracks of three minotaurs, not two. One is heavier than the others; the other two have tracks that imply fatigue or wounds.

@Sherwood Luna has no first-hand knowledge of Karthas the Master Wizard, but she does know that he was a tall, imposing figure with commanding looks and lusty drive for knowledge and magic. He is respected at your school, but there are repercussions for followers of Boccob killing each other, given their great variety of alignments (usually followers are Neutrally-aligned in some way, but this doesn't at all stop a Chaotic Good like Luna from joining them).

@Captain Hesperus Sorry, Cap'n. I just read Otiorin's stealth roll but Luna dropped that Fireball prior to Otiorin's attempt to sneak in (in the post before his). Logic tells me that Otiorin's chances of sneaking through the tunnel and into the Heart of the Wellspring are pretty much dashed. Imagine a grenade going off and there being one likely way into a room. Every creature in that room will turn toward the entry (your tunnel).

Now for a quick in-game post then work... Have a good day today, you guys! =)

:(

Captain Hesperus

So strategically, we're going to be trying to break out of a bottleneck, despite the element of surprise? And without one of our two tanks....

We're going to die horribly.

Captain Hesperus

I was hoping you guys would examine the cavern prior to attacking (I was prepared to show you the heart of the Wellspring of Change so you had an idea of what you were getting into). But an attack was initiated, so combat logically ensues.

Initiative? And good luck?

Initiative roll for Luna

Good grief. I guess Luna is in shock at how little the Fireball spell did to the target. <sigh>

Well, at least we didn't incinerate the people we came to save, yet.

Give us time, we've not even started the first round of combat yet. We're just warming up....

Captain Hesperus

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of. Hence the "yet."

Hey, you! =)

I don't know. I am about to finish a big post in our Conversation. I will catch up on IC in a moment and let you know?

Hmm. That depends on the party's actions.

Is there anyone not fleeing the scene? Otiorin appears as if he is up to something?

Meanwhile... this keeps popping in my head:

What a great movie! =)

Aye, Bren's off too. Hadn't posted because I was waiting on the GM to get caught up on everything. Also because I'm not quite sure what's going on myself.

I can say this: Bria is following Otiorin's command and skedaddling out of there.

Are there any choke points in the tunnels we have already gone through that will make the bad guys chasing us bunch up for one of my fireball scrolls to hit more than one of them?

Maybe, but if you want to live, the surest way to do that is run. Just saying. =)

Actually, let me ask this question instead - Is Luna (or anyone) stopping to attempt a second ambush?

On second thought, I don't even want to think about it. ( :x )

I had some time to waste so I decided to enhance our roleplaying experience by putting together a semi-accurate, kinda-scaled area map complete with the player characters and enemies. Although strictly based on what the Storyteller and other players have posted, keep in mind that this is still just my own interpretation of those facts. I did as best I could *woof*

Picture is pretty big so just a link here:

(yes, the wolf. click it - and your browser probably won't zoom it to 100% so make sure you do that for best viewing experience)

That map is something else, Wolf! Thank you for making that! =)

There are a (small) number of issues with it (the biggest one being the caverns itself, which I tried to go into detail about just how far Powerpaw and Dubble Trubble are from the party now - remember, they are far enough away that you guys can't even hear them, and they're loud!). The caves and the wellspring are in a far more complicated cave system than depicted, but I can't help but love the character "tokens" used (No, Dubble Trubble, you can't have two tokens!). =)

What's in my head is a larger version of this (note the scale):

Wolf sez,

The ranger slows down a bit in order to replace the bow to his back and take out the dagger once again, but doesn't stop moving for a second....and then if he could reach the outside Pecker would be their best and fastest way to contact Skaagenrackner.
Good thinking, Wolf! I hadn't even thought about Pecker contacting Skaagenrackner! =)

Re: Map

I see. Yes, that makes my sketch plenty more inaccurate, but now I have a better vision of the caves.

Have you not considered drawing an area map by hand and then scanning it to show us? From what I understand you're not on friendly terms with graphic software so drawing/scanning should be more plausible. Of course, the downside is that you wouldn't have my adorable character tokens *rawrrr*

I don't mind putting together maps when spare time presents itself, but the problem is we'd have to bounce back and forth with versions and versions of the map until finally it matches the true one, and by then the encounter may well be over! But, if you are able to provide some kind of rough sketch that I could use to build the map... Just a future reminder. Of course, if you all enjoy the surprises of how this Wolf envisions things and how much they fail to capture the truth, then by all means I shall continue throwing science at the wall and seeing what sticks *howl*

So what's the plan? Some of us seem to be headlessly retreating while others look like they're preparing to hold their ground. Need I remind you that if we don't stand a chance against the enemy united, surely a couple isolated Wanderers have no better odds *woof*

I propose we all run back to join up with Powerpaw and make all further decisions from there. We need to learn what became of his fight anyway, and it is on our way out. Afterwards Wolf can send Pecker to fetch Skaagenrackner (though with Vardadraug's disappearance it seems the wolf will get there first) and the rest of us can decide where we should go.

I liked your map, Wolf ( :) )

I agree that we ought to at least meet up with Powerpaw, not least so that he knows we're running and can join the fun. ( :P ) If the minotaurs are still chasing us when we reach the main entrance, we may need to take care of them there (that's a lot of running, and if they'll run that far they may just follow us further).
