Otiorin is as far from lackadaisical at the moment, eh Sparkle? He's about as fired up as one could get, considering the fact they are discussing sneaking past a man-eating Ettin to chase after persons unknown in the depths of the earth...

Captain Hesperus

Re: Running into creatures. Actually, I don't know about that. Studying and having first-hand experience are quite different. Want to roll 3d20 to find out, Sherwood (or Wolf)?

Ok. here it goes...

[dice]5140[/dice]

Both ends of the scale are represented there. Couldn't get much worse than if I had a 20 in there.

Psst - I edited Bren's post just after I'd posted it - he's offered his knowledge of the Giants' language to the party. Sorry to those who read it before I'd finished editing!

Quite true on that, Cap'n.

And, oh yes, I forgot to mention - Ettins have 10 foot reach.

Sherwood - Looks like Luna has indeed encountered Ettins before! @All Folks? What do you say? Want to say that the Wanderers were all present during Otiorin's first Ettin encounter?

Yeah, take it from a distance if we can. With its high Strength, Power Attack, and possible Barbarian Rage, I do not want to face it in melee.

Glowering volcano of fire-mage? ( ;) )
You know it! Luna can be a real tiger! Rawr!

"Tiger? Ooh! Luna's a Kitty-face after all!" Powerpaw hugglepounces Luna. =)

@Wolf Rawrrr @killfire @Kaerri @Captain Hesperus @Sherwood It appears that Powerpaw will be on a separate encounter from the rest of you. Do you want me write about that or do you want to just see things from the viewpoints of your characters?

Unless someone has anything else to add, I'd say the Wanderers are ready to go. If not, please post otherwise. =)

I vote to keep the focus on the player characters, and let Powerpaw give us his version of the fight when we are all done.

Since I won't be using my Displacement scroll on him, who is our next biggest melee player? Is that Bren? If so, I may be slapping you on the back with that scroll to give you an advantage for a few rounds.

I agree with what Sherwood says, although it's likely we'll probably hear the sounds of combat behind us...

"'Ere, wotz dat sound?" "Wot sound?"

"MOOOOOOAAAAAAAR!!!!!"

Captain Hesperus

Nice spam, guys *woof*

And @Dannigan if I could make a request for the future: I like the way you used tabs to give Sherwood Luna's knowledge on the Ettins. Could you make this a thing for the future? I'd like not to know anything that my character doesn't know. Despite one's best efforts to prevent metagaming, it just isn't the same as not having to worry about it. Also as a side thought; when one character goes ahead to scout and you publicly post what he saw, it kinda feels odd to read the same thing only condensed from the player when the character comes back to deliver a report. I basically already know what he's going to say before he does it, even though I *try* to remind myself that my character doesn't.

It's like... You know how in the movies when there's an ongoing trial in the courtroom and the witness does something out of line like step out and take off his shirt to show the jury the scars underneath? (can't remember what movie that's from) Yeah and then everyone in the jury and courtroom gasps and the judge quickly tries to restore order and at the end says: "The jury will disregard this." Yeah officially they will, but come on no one is gonna be able to really disregard that.

That's how it seems to this Wolf anyway. If I'm the only one then feel free to ignore the request *woof*

p.s. dat sneak roll tho

I like Wolf's thinking on this. Functionally, we can use tabs:

  • Stuff Luna knows

or spoilers:

No showing your cloaca!!!

Captain Hesperus

@Wolf Rawrrr Oh! Sure, I can do that. I hadn't considered that anyone wanted to see anything but the full story. This way, folks who care about that sort of thing can read it while others can skip it (satisfying both approaches). I am so used to keeping a firm wall between my in-character and out-of-character information that it comes second nature, but that doesn't mean that's the case for any of you. Plus, this way, the game is easier to play for you. I like that. =)

I was going to post Powerpaw's encounter in a similar fashion (a separate tab), but yeah, if there's no interest (or worse, if it would get in your way), I'll just roll the encounter and keep the details "off-camera." =)

Captain Hesperus sez,

"No veren, Powerpaw, savo 'lass a lalaith. Na lû e-govaned vîn.", he whispered an old phrase of parting historically used between warriors of yore.
What did he say?

Otiorin said, "Enjoy yourself, Powerpaw, have joy and laughter. Until next we meet."

Captain Hesperus

Thanks, Cap'n! Being a LotRO player, I thought it looked Sindarin, but when in doubt, I like to go to the person playing the character to discern meaning. =)

Thanks Dannigan (

:) )

Feel free to write Powerpaw's encounter. There's no harm in providing info hidden behind a tab or spoiler, that way those who want to read it can, and those who would prefer to learn about it IC from others can do it that way. Personally, I like a mix. Some things I can firmly separate as my knowledge versus my character's, while some other things I'd like not to have to even *woof*

Yeah, separating IC from OOC fluidly definitely takes practice.

I was going to write Powerpaw's encounter anyway (on Microsoft Word and because I want to keep the scene instead of lose it to time). Kaerri seems to be the only one interested in it though (I haven't heard yet from Killfire on the matter). Is this one of those things you can separate, Wolf Rawrrr, or should I keep it at home?

If you're asking if I'd read that then the answer is yes. Be glad to, in fact.

I didn't mean to suggest I need to be kept entirely in the dark. It's mainly things of personal importance to my character *woof*

What you've suggested (at least in my interpretation) is a desire for character knowledge to be kept separate. Some things, you have little difficulty with; others, you don't. So, no need to not post anything ol' Wolf doesn't know - just a request for division. Kind of like saying, "I don't want to eat at a buffet; could we all have separate plates? Not that I don't want to see what you're enjoying - there's just so much this belly can fit in." =)

The Wanderers' plates shall be served soon (hopefully later tonight). =)

Heya friends! =)

Sorry, guys. Though the difficulty was extremely high, my gray-and-black 20-sider here chose to roll a natural 20 to see if Dubble Trubble would wake up from the gentle sounds of your passing...

@Kaerri @Wolf Rawrrr Please roll Survival skills here for Tracking if you would like more-precise information?

I got a baaaad feeling about this evil wizard. But, no matter how powerful you are, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp your style.

And your casting! =)

I can't help but really like that last post of yours with Luna, Sherwood. That is what I call a practical approach to a fellow like this. Just saying. =)

Thank you. I was hoping to get the right feel without going too far afield. Have I ever met this person, or do I only know him by reputation?
