And I'm back from my vacation. Hopefully everyone had a great Christmas!

Welcome back, Sherwood! Hope you and yours had a great time.

@All It's been pretty busy in Real Life for this Dannigan. I hope to start posting tomorrow. As for now, Real Life is calling once again.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Honor and fun,

Dann =)

Looking forward to seeing how this fight comes out. I can't wait for Luna to level up and get some more spells.

One of these days, I'll even be able to catch up on RPNation... Sorry I haven't posted recently, folks. Real Life and all that. Thankfully, all that business is coming to a close and I'll have more time to write. But in the meantime...

...Happy New Year, everyone! Woo-hoo! =)

And a very happy new year to you, too. I look forward to 2015, and I hope that it brings nothing but good fortune and happiness to all.

Okies, it's fun time again! I am going to repeat and add some combat-related information so everyone is on the same page here. Any questions, let me know.

Luna, Wolf, and Bria traversed a 40 meter steep slope to get to the hilltop. Once at the edge of the hilltop, it appears to be over 60 meters long and 80 meters wide with large, tall trees everywhere, some reaching 15 meters high. There are enough trees that it blocks your field of vision beyond the dimensions given (so the hilltop may be wider and farther out?). The branches of said trees start about 2.5 to 4 meters from the ground, so large creatures occasionally have to duck as they tromp through carpets of multicolored leaves (which makes it more difficult [-2 to Stealth rolls] to sneak up from the dry, crunching sounds one makes when walking over them).

The aforementioned great runed stone is a flat obelisk some 3 meters in height and about 12 meters in width. One of the Bloodhorn Minotaurs (the archer) is using it as partial cover (he's too big to get any further benefit). The other three minotaurs are armed with melee weapons. The leader has a spiked shield and a nasty, possibly enchanted flail, and his two cohorts are armed with a great axe (if he crits, watch out!), and dual battle axes (which typically means two-weapon fighting. This means he gets another attack at the cost of accuracy much like Wolf's Rapid Shot feat. Also, it means he has a Dexterity score of at least 15.

Also, Kitrin and Powerpaw are (depending on my die rolls at my computer desk) are either a combat round or two away from this fight, or farther (not likely). Pancake-muncher Otiorin is just a round or two after them

The leader is roughly 10 meters west of Wolf, 15 meters from Luna, (and 20 from Bria). The other minotaurs are about 5 meters apart in a "box" or "baseball diamond" formation with the archer in the rear.

Initiative is as follows:

Otiorin 21 (will arrive to the scene in 3 rounds)

Bria 19

Luna 14

Bloodland Minotaurs 13

Kitrin (w/ Powerpaw) 12 (will arrive to the scene in 2 rounds) EDIT: I screwed up here and wrote Kitrin's Initiative as 1 instead of 12 (she rolled the 1 for the three-way tie). Whoops!

Wolf 8

Powerpaw 6 (Powerpaw sez, "Oof. I want da Feat Improved Initiatives...")

(Although it is unfair to the minotaurs) I am ruling that those characters not yet in combat will arrive in a matter of rounds instead of minutes.

Since Sherwood declared Luna's combat action (casting Scorching Ray), I know what she's doing. Kaerri will be free to post as Kitrin after I write up this next post in the story section.

Re: House Rule: Rule of 1 on Initiative. Also, Kaerri's roll of 1 for Initiative brings up a House Rule from our tabletop game I'd like to implement. Any roll of 1 on Initiative means your character goes dead last (regardless of bonuses). Yes, this applies to bad guys too. This is in effect so creatures and characters with outrageous Initiative modifiers can still fall to the luck of the draw.

Everything looks right to me. I have no problem with the house rule, but I may suggest a corollary to that? If you roll a 2o, you get to go first, no matter what bonuses someone else may have? Just a thought.

I believe that is the brother to the aforementioned rule, also in effect in our house game. Thanks for reminding me, Sherwood! =)

House Rule: Rule of 20 on Initiative. Regardless of modifiers, any character or creature that rolls a natural 20 on Initiative goes first. In the case of two such rolls, characters roll off.

It seemed reasonable to me. Just glad to be of service! ( ;) )

@killfire A reminder before I forget - your character does not have Masterwork tools, yet he has the means to make them (and add +2 to crafting checks for that craft). Do you want Bronze to try and craft some Masterwork metalworking tools?

Just to check; I was under the impression that if the attacker did not beat my Armor Class, they don't even hit the extra images granted by the Mirror Image spell. It only has to come into effect if I actually do get hit, then it is a random roll to see which one is hit. Shouldn't I have all of my extra Luna's still running about? My Armor Class is 24 with the spells I have active.

@Sherwood Re: Second Scorching Ray spell. Luna has already acted this round (on her Initiative roll of 14). Her first spell was not a surprise attack (remember, I asked only for Initiative), since both parties were well-aware of each other. Luna will have to wait until next round to cast a second Scorching Ray spell.

Re: Mirror Image spell. Core book, page 314: "If the attack misses by 5 or less, one of your figments is destroyed by the near miss." I am aware of Luna's current armor class. One attack was a 20, the other a 19 (both within 5, so two figments vanish).

Ah. My mistake about the Mirror Image spell, and I thought that initiative started off after I threw my Scorching Ray. I don't suppose I can save the roll to hit until my next action?

Re: Initiative. Had Luna, say, fired from her cover when the Bloodland minotaurs were unaware of her, there would be a good chance she would have surprised them.

Re: Second Scorching Ray. I don't have a problem with that as long as you realize that Luna is now casting in a melee. You may want to provide for that next round? =)

@Wolf Rawrrr Wolf is next up! =)

Ok, unless something changes, I'll stick with the roll for to hit and damage. Sorry I posted out of turn there. (' :| ) Won't happen again.

No worries! I goof too (I messed up Kitrin's Initiative at first)!

Concerning Luna, please be careful; just like in the battle against the gnolls, Luna is casting again in a melee.

Ok. I'll let you know what I do when my turn comes up again.

Daannigan, Kaerri? Can one of you please enlighten me on my damage rolls at this point? I intentionally left them out because I couldn't remember (or surprisingly even find out after ten minutes of searching the net) what am I supposed to roll - usually it's the d8 for the longbow, but wasn't there some sort of penalty for attacking twice?

Also check my attack rolls while at it. It should be correct BAB (+6/+1) + dex modifier (+3) but for some reason the same logic compared to previous chapter combat... doesn't match. The pauses between having to use pathfinder mechanics are too long for me and I end up having to re-learn what little I had figured out again and again ( :( ) *whine*

There's no damage penalty for attacking multiple times in a turn. If you are using feats to attack multiple times (or using an off-hand weapon to gain an extra attack, if in melee), there's generally a penalty to attack, but you're using your standard 2 attacks, so no penalties.

Now for the math!

Attack rolls: Wolf's Base Attack Bonus (BAB) is +6/+1. This means he gets two attacks per round without penalty, as long as he isn't doing anything else (like moving). The first attack is at the +6, and the second is at +1. Dex modifier (+3) applies to all ranged attacks. You have a feat (Point-Blank Shot) that gives you +1 to attack and damage rolls when shooting something within 30 feet. GM says the minotaur is roughly 10 meters away, which is slightly farther than 30 feet. (@Dannigan, can we get a ruling here? For convenience, can 10m=30'?) If he says yes, then Point-Blank Shot applies. You didn't say you were using any other feats this turn, so we'll leave it at that. You're using a non-magical bow, so there's no magic bonus to add.

Total attack roll bonus: First attack, +9; second attack, +4. If Point-Blank Shot applies, that goes up to +10/+5.

Damage rolls: Your longbow does d8 damage, no matter how many times you attack in a round. If Dannigan says that Point-Blank Shot applies here, you'll add +1 to that. If and when you get a magical bow or magical arrows, their magical bonus will also add to damage.

Total damage roll: 1d8 per shot. With Point-Blank Shot, add +1.

(Note: unless he's changed it, the magical bonus to attack and damage from bows and arrows do not stack. Only the larger one will apply. There's lots of magical ammunition that has other effects than just damage bonuses, though.)

@Wolf Rawrrr @Kaerri Wolf, Leonard's first shot hits. Roll d8+1 damage, friend. Thanks for explaining, Kaerri-darlin'. =)

Shop-talk: Point-Blank Shot applies to Wolf's target (Bloodland Minotaur leader) who is within melee distance of Luna (this distance is 10 feet because these creatures are all large-sized). In other words, these baddies are very close to Wolf (15 feet or so - just outside of the minotaurs' melee distance). Because Wolf has Precise Shot as a feat, he can fire into the melee without any chance of striking Luna or her Mirror Image figments.

It's Luna's go.

Initiative is as follows:

Otiorin 21 (will arrive to the scene in 2 rounds)

Bria 19

Luna 14

Bloodland Minotaurs 13

Kitrin (on Powerpaw) 12 (will arrive to the scene in 1 round)

Wolf 8

Powerpaw 6

Any chance that Otiorin has heard the sounds of fighting yet? Because right now, I only have him aware that there's a trail to follow.

Captain Hesperus

@Captain Hesperus Oh, yes. And that will go for Kitrin and Powerpaw too. I was thinking about that when Luna's first spell missed and now that three out of the four minotaurs have charged (in an otherwise quiet woodland)...

Let's just hope the dice favor Luna here.

So, I am unclear; how many images for Luna are left? I want to make sure I document it correctly in my posts.
