At the Adventurers' Table

Sherwood... you haven't come across as a pain at all! You're coming across as a player who wants to know what's going on, understand his options, and make the best choices while learning the game.

That's cool as heck in my book! =)

Re: Survival. I hope Luna makes it too.

If not, well, I guess I can try to make up a new character. I've been wanting to try my hand at a monk for a while . . . But I'm getting ahead of myself. If the dice gods are with me, Luna will survive to level up and get even more magical power!

@ Everybody. =)

This is a good time to bring this up. When in doubt, please be specific about what your character is trying to do. For example: Kitrin decides that because she has no armor, she is going to fight smarter. In the Adventurers' Table or using a /spoiler in the action thread, her player states that she is going to invoke Kitrin's Combat Expertise feat to get the Armor Class bonus.

The more I know about what you're doing, the better I can include it. Communication in combat improves. =)

As usual, if you have any questions ask away! RP is a learning process as well as a game (and, for me, that's part of the fun!). =)

In other news, this six-day work-week has really been cutting into my game time (but, really, I'm blessed to have a good place to work when others out there don't). Hope to post more (MOAR!) tomorrow. =)

ooookay, I still wanna use my own dice... maybe if I hook up a video camera? heh heh Here come the second roll!

(Grumble) And here comes the final Roll.

What the bloody blue blazes? I've never seen natural dice roll that bad. I don't like this computerized dice roll stuff. I'm gonna find a way to use "natural" dice darnit!

I have physical dice that roll like that all the time...

@killfire You get one more roll. The very first crafting roll you made was for the non-masterwork part of the crafting tool (the haft). Good luck!

@Sherwood I forgot to ask a potentially very important question: Which way is Luna running? Toward Wolf and Bria? Away? Some other direction?

Away from them to one side, not directly opposite from them; I don't want to risk getting Bria and Wolf into more trouble than they already are.

Thanks! =) Oh, and Bria thanks you too. =)

I will post tomorrow after work. For now, it's bedtime. Sleep well, folks! =)

I'd like to. Maybe in February when things die down? (While I see the humor you added there, I can't help but reply with something real and hopeful.) =)

Meanwhile, Powerpaw is in my head going right along with you. I think you "started him up." I can hear him saying, "Post moar! MOOOOAAR! Post in da FAAAACE! Wait... Um... Just post moar!" =)

I feel that Powerpaw is channeling the spirit of Chacktari! lol Talk about a blast from the past, right?

Chaktari and Powerpaw would definitely get along! =)

Oh my gosh talk about a Jinx, SHERWOOD! Don't get in my head again. It's full of strange fluffy things... Rabbits... Pillows... Characters of long ago... Moar Fluffy Pillows, and Hot Chocolate. Hum... Sounds good, I go make some. Anyone else want some?

[dice]3693[/dice]

Well that's that. Stupid computerized dice, I rolled a 16 on my old clear dice, mumble mumble, Its HACKED I say HACKED! >:@)

This is the time where I wish I had a tabletop and miniatures to work with...

Is there a spot that on my next action I can throw a Fireball spell and catch all three of the melee minotaurs without blowing up Wolf or myself?

21 - Otiorin. Gravity Bow (10/10 round duration) in effect. Shortbow in hand. Using Stealth in an attempt to Sneak Attack. Will arrive on scene in 2 rounds.

19 - Bria. Using Force Shield ring and walking stick +2. Just used Prepared Action on Luna (Channel Energy).

14 - Luna. Mage Armor, Shield, and Displacement (6/6 round duration) in effect. Sparkle status: Alert, on Luna's shoulder. Being chased by 3 minotaurs.

13 - Bloodland Minotaurs (4), Leader hurt, greataxe wielder slightly wounded, dual-wielding battle axe user and archer are healthy.

12 - Kitrin. Armorless. Combat Expertise active. Using Flail +2 and large, Darkwood shield +2. Charging minotaur leader (+2 damage if the charge is successful).

8 - Wolf. Using longbow. Pecker status: Alert, circling in woods above the battle.

6 - Powerpaw. Using Maul +2. Not far behind Kitrin, but has yet to move and act.

@Wolf Rawrrr

Here is some shop-talk for you, since you are a new player, fr

Be careful. Wolf has a minotaur in melee with him (only 5 feet away, though his reach is 10 feet; he is this close because he just tried to gore Wolf. If Wolf fires his bow, the Bloodland Minotaur will get one attack of opportunity on Wolf (not one for each shot; just one for the whole round. Still, these guys clearly pack a wallop). An attack of opportunity is only one swing (at the creature's highest base attack) with no combat maneuvers allowed (so, the minotaur can't Trip, Disarm, etc. only attack for damage).

Wolf, like Luna, has a few options.

1. Wolf may fire and take the consequences. Maybe he'll get lucky and the minotaur will roll low and miss Wolf again.

2. Wolf may take a move action and run out of the creature's reach, then fire once (not twice). This will also incur an attack of opportunity, but the creature will be forced to chase Wolf. I don't recommend this, because the minotaur winds up with two total attacks, both at highest base attack, plus if a minotaur can charge, that minotaur can gore (which is its nastiest natural attack at 2d6+7 damage if successful).

3. Wolf may drop his bow (free action), take a five-foot step and draw his sword (also a free action but only if Wolf is moving, hence the five-foot step), and swing once on the minotaur.

Note: Unlike Luna, Wolf doesn't have anything like the Cast Defensively option that spellcasters can attempt.

@Sherwood Re: "Battle-board" Me too, bud. Me, too. As for the other topic...

Good ol' Fireball erupts in a 20-foot radius spread, or in other words, 20 feet in every direction from the point of impact. That means Luna is still too close to Wolf to drop that spell without him being in the blast. Also, as of this round, Kitrin is now in melee with the leader. Lastly, because they are chasing her, Luna is still in melee with all three minotaurs (since she single-moved for 40 feet and then cast Displacement. This allowed the minotaurs to catch up and attack).

If Luna keeps moving 40 feet and casting, she'll eventually outdistance the slower-moving minotaurs (unless they use their double-move to charge and gore). As long as they are chasing her, she is in real trouble. Plus, as a reminder, Bria has her own range limit to her healing spells. If Luna exceeds it, Bria cannot heal her if she is damaged.

Kitrin and Wolf have the "green light" (they are up next). @Kaerri, please make an attack roll for Kitrin's charge. I'll have Powerpaw act after that, Otiorin will take another round to sneak up (even his own party doesn't know he's here!), and then it will be Luna's turn again.

@killfire I'll be darned! 3 out of 3 misses with a bonus like Bronze's! Unreal. That last roll especially (a total of 19 when a 20 was needed). Oh well. Time to adventure for more masterwork item-making supplies! =)

Whew! This is already far more exciting than I thought it would be. =)

Thanks for the feedback, @Dannigan. I knew that the Fireball spell has a big radius, I just wasn't sure if there were any allies in the radius that would get cooked if I cast it. By the time its my turn I'll have my next action planned.

Sure, you! It's the least I can do given the pickle Luna's in right now.

@All Re: Fireball spell. As your storyteller, I have to be as fair as I can be for both the good guys and the bad (so I can't share ideas or notions that I come up with; I have to let you think them up). Concerning this Fireball spell, does anyone else out there have any ideas or notions to share?

Oh, I have plenty of other spells and ideas I can fall back on; it just depends on if I want to risk casting in the middle of combat or not.

Well that's one move I've regretted the moment I made it ( :( ) *whine*

But really all those options sucked (except maybe the fourth, run like hell and nothing else?). The first one, which I have taken, has just been dismantled - and even if by some miracle I caused a critical hit and managed to evade the enemy attack, he still has enough health that I'd have to land 3-4 perfect hits (he's at full HP I believe). The second choice is pretty much pointless. And the third one, well... I'm pretty sure I'd miss with my dagger as usual, or cause minimal damage.

Like Sherwood said, an accurate graphical representation of the battlefield would be a sweet thing to have. I didn't realize I was close enough to the enemy archer for him to get at me in a single attack, otherwise I'd sacrifice one turn to back off and attack only once, which should still leave me in attacking range but afford me one turn to prepare should he decide to rush out like that ( :o ) *woof*

I intend to make a sort of battle-board-thingy over the weekend for this sort of scenario. Just a little gridwork, with pictures representing all of us, but it'll be a help.

That is the only downside to the PbP; can't see stuff like this unless someone makes up a map and posts it. Otherwise, I love this PbP stuff. It gives me time to think about my post to be able to come up with just the right comment, or to be able to describe the scene to my players in detail and create a visual tapestry with words.

Wolf sez,

But really all those options sucked (except maybe the fourth, run like hell and nothing else?). The first one, which I have taken, has just been dismantled - and even if by some miracle I caused a critical hit and managed to evade the enemy attack, he still has enough health that I'd have to land 3-4 perfect hits (he's at full HP I believe). Yes. This is true because the minotaur charged; that's one of the very few options a fighter-type has when their opponent is within double-move range. Thankfully, charging works in the Wanderers' favor too - Kitrin is able to get in and attack the leader in the same round because she is using the same method of attack. Note that a charge adds +2 to damage but the charger takes -2 to their Armor Class. This means both Kitrin and the Bloodland Minotaur archer are a little more open to attack than normal (well, Kitrin even moreso because she's wearing a tunic instead of her Chain Mail +2! A small-sized creature running after three large-sized creatures that are chasing her medium-sized magical friend? That's one brave hobbit even if she was wearing armor. Without the armor, well, I think she deserves a pie at the very least.).

@Wolf Rawrrr Wolf still gets two shots per round, so fire again! Also, a reminder for next round - Wolf possesses the valuable feat, Rapid Shot, which provides another attack per round (all attacks at a -2). I figure if you're going to fire in melee and eat an attack of opportunity, you might as well get three shots in on such a big opponent than two. It's just an option (one I wish I would have mentioned earlier).

Another random note: I am wishing these dice would be a little kinder to all of you... =/

The dice gods giveth, the dice gods taketh away. We will make up for it with a plethora of natural 20's in the future.
