Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

That sounded like a good idea. "I think the hard part's gonna be finding one that's alone." Presumably if you angered one, you angered all the ones near it. "Unless we find them in a small enough group we can drop them quickly." The argies had won the battle with the hyaenodons, and looked pretty winded and somewhat wounded, "We might be able to take those three," she offered.

"Good idea," Roan nodded, "If we shoot while they're diving we can jump out of the way before they hit us. They aren't very fast. Just strong."

"Let's make it happen, Cap'n!" Anna loaded a tranq bolt and started towards a good area where they could run if they had to. "Dibs on the red one."

"I'll take the golden one," Roan replied, looking at a dusty brown and golden flecked bird, "Lets get some birds."

Anna smiled and started towards where the argentavi were resting from their endeavor. Arrows streaking into the flesh of the two chosen birds got their attention.

It turned out surprisingly easy to knock out the birds, as long as they were on land. It only took between ten and twenty shots to put each one down, and they were slow fliers that weren't as agile as they looked.

Aftwr a few more moments, Roan had meat on each of their birds, keeping them fed, and narcotics to keep them knocked out, "Well, thst was even easier than I expected. "

"Yeah," Anna nodded, a bit confused, "I thought they'd be harder." They were sure making it hard for everything they fought. In the two battles they'd witnessed the argies had consistently won.

During that time, the doedicurus Vera was babysitting was pretty close to being fully tamed. Herbivores were usually pretty passive about their taming once they were restrained.

"Maybe they're just strong." Roan shrugged, "At least we know we can handle them."

Vera watched the doedicurus slowly tame. It didn't take as long as other beast but it was still a long tame.

Anna nodded, "Yeah, definitely. Think we could ride one?"

Up at the camp, Jack was giving Manny a break to recover stamina, and was sorting through the collected materials to put them away until he could make something of them later. Looking at the resources available, he decided to start making saddles, one for Manny, and one for the doedicurus the group would either be bringing back today or would bring in the next few days.

"Probably not the smartest without a saddle," Roan said, "One slip and it'll be a nasty fall."

Back at camp, Meatloaf was still following Jack around, trying her hardest to help with any of the tasks at hand. Most of the time, she carrying around fiber ropes for the human, excited to be doing something good.

"We could improvise one," Anna offered, "Like you did with Manny." Really all a saddle was was some padding between you and the beast, in the case of a flyer it would probably need something to hold you to it. In theory they could MacGyver something to that end.

Anna shook her head, "No, it's all back at camp. It would probably take a while to make one, anyway, so we'd have to wait till we were safe." The doedicurus, as it started taming first, woke up and stretched from her drug induced nap first. The argies followed it after a while, getting up one by one as tags turned green.

Vera made her way to the others, the doedicurus following, "Hey, this one is done taming. How are- woah those are much bigger up close."

"They just finished taming," Roan said with a smile.

Anna grinned, "That one's yours," she pointed to the third argy at the end. "The red one's mine, gold one's Roan's." She looked up at the red hen as she took the narcotics back from its inventory, "I think I'm gonna name you... Ember." She nodded as the tag changed to that name.

"I have no idea what to name mine," Roan said, looking at the golden bird, "He's gorgeous, though."

"Maybe Jack could come up with a name?", Anna joked, "Hardhead the parasaur, Lil' Chicken the microraptor, Manny the Mammoth... Eh? Birdy the Argy!" She shook her head and laughed at her own joke, "What about you, Vera? What'd you name the doedi?"

Vera giggled, following the joke of Jack's poor naming skill, "Rocky."

With that the doedicurus gained the green tag, reading "Rocky."

"Oh, boy," Roan laughed

Anna almost fell over laughing, "That's amazing!" Rocky liked the name too, doing a little dance and bellowing her enjoyment.

Anna nodded, "There's some boulder's around here, give her some room." When everyone backed off from the doedicurus and she was whistled to wander, the giant armadillo with a spike on its tail waddled around in the general direction of a boulder, and with a mighty swing of its tail shattered the rock. "Whoa." Inside Rocky's inventory, there was far more stone than any of the survivors could have done on their own. "Jacks's gonna like this."

"Like it? He's going to love it," Roan chuckled, "Lets head back then."

"I'll get the raptors." The argies' flight were able to keep up with the raptors, easily. But the doedicurus was slower, having trouble keeping up, and that slowed them down. By the time they got back late that afternoon, everyone was tired and more than a little annoyed. "At least we won't have to do it again?" Anna offered.

"Do what?", Jack asked, leaning over the edge to see what they were talking about, "Something- Is that a doedicurus?"

"Yep."

"Sweet, I just finished the saddle." Jack rushed over to the workshop and came back with the saddle to equip it to Rocky.

"Check out her inventory, " Roan said to Jack, "You'll like what you see."

"Oh, really?" Jack grinned as he checked the implant and moved the saddle into it's slot, before tabbing to the doedi's inventory. The giant's eyes almost bugged out of his head. "YES!", he boomed, fists in the air. "We're gonna have some nice construction going on!"

"Good," Anna laughed at the reaction, "I don't suppose you have a saddle for three argies?"

"Not even close, unless you think you can modify a pterosaur saddle," jack shrugged, trudging along to the storage with the stone to pour it in, and letting Rocky loose to go get more.
