Dice Age of Discovery

[QUOTE="P U R I T Y]Ugh, I'm so sorry. My sheet will be finished tomorrow if not tonight (working on it now), been super tied down not to mention coming down with something. If you need to drop me to start this though, go ahead, I don't want this to die or anything on my account <3

Relax, we're not so stiff-necked that we can't wait another day or so for you to finish up. Take your time, make it a good one, better that than rushing one and having it be sub-par. I know Soli (AKA Fus Ro Dah, but we all call him Soli based on an old username from way back when :3) isn't in a huge rush, so don't worry about it, as long as you're making progress, I'm sure we can make time for ya :D

Oh, okay, appreciate the response. I was nearly done and somehow managed to exit out of the tab... When I'm finished crying over the wasted hour, I'll get back to work. dying slowly

Unacceptable! I'm part of the new generation that demands instant gratification and by golly I expect it! If I'm not satisfied I'll huff and puff and throw a fit about it!

Love the comic strip. So true. xD Thank you very much! Here's to attempt # 2...

Still, I'm excited to see the group starting to form up. What do you guys think, are they going to get along? xD I can already see some mischief and mayhem on the way from Bryn's side, at least while he's not busy hunting for everyone's food and trying to keep them alive in the wilderness xD

I think Rae'll get along with everyone, or be neutral at the least. Course you guys can decide for yourself, she's just a harmony lover.

Right now I think Xavi just wants to get off the ship. Being at sea certainly doesn't seem to have agreed with his stomach. He's spent most of the trip with his head over the railing or in a bucket x'DDD As if he wasn't already skinny enough!

I literally have no idea how Flynn'll be. He didn't wanna tell me when I was making his sheet D:

Nearly finished, though I'm having a bit of trouble with background and inventory. The prior I'll probably just have to sit and really think on, but what of the latter? Aside from what the cartographer needs, is there anything specific I should include? And I see some animal companions, which I'd love to add though the ship may feel like more of a zoo... xD

I was considering an animal companion as well, but I thought better of it, since we'll have more than enough to handle with a foreign environment and new creatures to discover. Maybe making a pet out of a newfound animal might be possible, we'll have to see.

As far as equipment, besides the generic "maps, scrolls, ink, quill" that would be expected of a cartographer, maybe try thinkin of any personal effects your character would have. Are they from a noble/wealthy family? Probably, since it takes a rather high-class education to get by being a map-maker, which necessarily includes being a geographer, possibly a little geology if they are specific about terrain on their maps, having navigational training is a must-have, maybe a hobby in leather-working if you feel like making your own parchment. On top of anything else you can think of relating to these, I'd say a compass and sextant for getting accurate mapping, a large supply of pencils, since quality ink is going to be nearly impossible to make if we run out. If you're making your own maps, perhaps tanning oil and salts to refine your own parchment. Some form of measurement is most likely in order, some measured knotted rope or whatever device they used at the time period to gauge distances accurately. Perhaps a mule or small pony to carry all of this equipment, since you'll probably have drying racks and frames for all of the maps you'll be making, as well as easels and miscellaneous small, very valuable utensils that would be irreplaceable if lost or broken.

And of course, all this would be in top of any clothing, accessories, weapons, or materials you'd want to bring. I don't think anyone, including myself, has thought to bring lanterns and oil for them, bedrolls and tents, cooking pots, pans and utensils, even something as rudimentary as soap and towels is on the list, perhaps even a half-barrel to make a safe bath in, if your character is the finicky type who doesn't want to wash in the freezing lake or river. xD

Oh, that's an idea! Thank you! I'll stick to that, it'll leave for great character development and a show of skill on her part.

Good Lord, you're an absolute whiz and a life saver. Thank you
so much for getting my creative wheels turning, definitely presented not only what my character must have, but so much more for me to think about. I'm going to try and wing it, say she learned the trade in various ways not entirely pertaining to a wealthy upbringing, but your points are grand and I'm suuuuper grateful. Really needed that push. I'm knackered, so this'll probably be finished tomorrow (geeze, I've said that like three times, but am indeed making progress) however, everything but the background and history are finished! Personality especially. I'll probably elaborate on strengths and such later on, the gist is there I hope.

Time to research some of the older methods of scribing...ness. Sounds fun. She won't mind the lake, no, she's rather nature bound. Arigato!

I'm going to go ahead and say Renestrae is finished. Of course there's more I can flesh out on, and as the story develops and I get a feel for her, I'll elaborate. But for the moment she's a little vague, yet complete. Let me know if there's anything I need to fix! I'm sure there's something. waaaah

Stuff like the lanterns, oil, tents, cooking stuff I sort of expected this to be standard equipment brought aboard the ship sort of like the fact that I expect we brought rations for the sea voyage as well as hopefully enough to get started on land (barring any unexpected incidents at sea). If that's the case, any chance we can make a list of standard equipment stored on the ship (don't need specific numbers, I assume if we brought tents, we brought enough for everyone) so that we know what we have to work with.

If that's not the case then we may be royally screwed x'D

Hmmm, getting shipwrecked... that sounds like tons of fun xD

I find it kind of funny that the two scientists on the ship don't actually want to be there.

Hopefully Vann will get along with everyone, if not, I don't mind the occasional cat fight. =3=

Lol, well with Xavi it has less to do with any fear of anything, in fact he was excited to go on his first long voyage by sea, but unfortunately he has a serious case of sea sickness and its not the most pleasant of experiences x'D

Oh yeah, now would be a good time to ask how advanced biology is. Vann can't make any bio related puns if he's not supposed to know them. ^ ^'

@WhoopDau I assume we're somewhere equivalent to the 19th century based on the fact that we that we have a photographer, @Fus ro dah can confirm . If so, this is probably a pretty decent general resource. I imagine anything up to 1899 is probably game, again depending on what Fus says.

Yup, about 1860 I think I was aiming around!

Ah poop, I should have asked eatlier, or else I would have a microscope/cultures. Ah well, I'll strive through .3.

Also forgot my manners, thanks!
