Across the Tracks, Right?

Jamie looked up at him as he requested they leave, her expression confused. "Yeah, sure..." She agreed, turning around and going down a different alley. She led him back to the border.

"What's wrong?" She asked as she looked up at the fence. "Did you see something?"

Quin shook his head, still looking confused. "I just started to feel light headed is all. Maybe it was too much excitement for me...and besides...there was..." he looked even less sure of himself as he looked her over.

"Do they have magic detectors here? I mean I sensed some magic floating around I just thought it was weird for a mechanical city. Nn....yeah I don't feel so good. Sorry...."

Jamie looked around to check that no one was nearby, and satisfied that they weren't being watched, gently approached Quin and pushed his hair back from his face. "What's going on?" she asked quietly, concern etched into her voice. "We don't have magic detectors over here, it's just... assumed that people will notice, I guess." she shrugged.

"Do you want to go home? We can find a gap in the fence and head back, if you like." she pulled her leather jacket off. "You need to make my marking show again, though. Then we can go back to your room and relax until you feel better... if you, uh..." she shrugged. "Sorry. You're in charge. I'm just worried about you, is all."

Quin shook his head, staring at the city. "Maybe the fuels you use? Hahaha it might be that but I swear..." he huffed before looking Jamie over. "I'll stay at your place for a while still okay. I didn't feel sick there."

No, he was curious. He could have sworn he felt magic in waves from underneath the city. There was something else he wanted to look into. He didn't want to worry her but he wanted to kmow about it. "So lets get inside alright? I'm getting cold and walking home is too far." Quin complained, his eyes moving to the guards on his side that he could see through the mana barrier.

There was a chance she couldn't since she didn't use magic.

"Let's hurry up okay?"

"Got it..." Jamie nodded, leading him through a few streets and back to her apartment. She got a pillow from her bedroom and threw it onto the couch for him. "There you go. Do you need anything else?" she asked, still concerned. "I... I can see what I've got. I'd offer you my bed but I'm not willing to let you see how messy my bedroom is." she laughed awkwardly.

Jamie knew something else was happening. She could sense the nerves in Quin, but she didn't know what it was or what questions to ask to find out the answer, so she settled for trying to make sure he was okay. "I've got beer. Do you like beer? Or vodka? Or do you guys not drink alcohol?"

Quin shook his head and burried his head in the pillow. Drowning himself in its scent. Her scent. He was trying to figure this out, it was so weird. He couldn't feel it anymore but it was nagging him in the back of his mind.

"If any of those help headaches I don't care anymore. Ah, but, beer tastes gross, its usually cheap too." He turned and frowned. "I don't know my tolerance.either. Magic and alchohol are weird." He mumbled. People drank alchohol sure but...he just never cared enough. He had nothing for or against it and had no interest either way.

He only used stuff for his benefit anyways....

Jamie looked at him and then sat down on the couch, putting his head in her lap. "None of them help. And I'm not sure that kissing you would help either, so I'll just sit here." She smiled down at him.

"What do you think? What's happening? What magic?" She asked.

"I was hoping it would." Quin mumbled before turning to stare at Jamie, letting her move his head onto her lap. He wanted to kiss her but he held back since it would distract him. Her presense was sort of like that.

"I don't know I just thought I felt magic. I'm not like my father who can figure these things out. I was thinking that if you had magic detectors you'd have to have mages helping you.....would some do that? Maybe but I wasn't sure...I'm not sure. Its just all weird."

Jamie frowned, playing with his hair and falling into thought. She couldn't think about what it was that was happening, because she didn't understand it. It just wasn't something she knew enough about to have a valid opinion on it. Her hands gently rubbed his temple and she leaned down to kiss his forehead. "Let's get you to a point where your head doesn't hurt, then we can deal with it, okay?"

She sat back, sighing. She was worried. She trusted Quin's instincts, and if he was right, then something was very, very wrong.

Quin nodded sheepishly before closing his eyes, his hand moving to touch her face. He missed and touched he hair instead. He didn't mind that. However he put his hand back down anyway.

"It'll settle soon, it was just that one area where it was really strong. I wouldn't be surprised if some mages were helping out your side. Maybe they just don't come out about it because your people wouldn't like it...."

Jamie took his hand and drew it back up to her face, guiding it to her cheek, and then down over her lips. The couch was wide enough that they could both lay down, so she slid down until she was laying beside him, her body close to his. "I wouldn't be surprised, either." she admitted. "My father did once talk about using their energy."

She liked laying with him. It felt oddly safe, in an exhilerating sort of way.

Quin was a bit alarmed by her phrasing. "Using...their energy?" He asked, sighing at how confortable her lying down made him. He needed to focus though. Focus!

"What did he mean by that, do you know at all?" He asked carefully just as her phone started ringing. Making him startled as he jolted back a bit. "Um, for you?"

Jamie looked at the phone with a nervous expression. "I'm not answering it." she mumbled. "Let it go to the machine." she wrapped her arms around Quin and pulling him closer. She listened to the ringing, and shrugged. "I don't know what he meant. Something to do with energy converting to mechanical power, but I never understood it enough to really have an opinion..."

"It might be your father. Since it says 'dad' on the screen." Quin mumbled before thinking what she said over. Letting her move him closer to her. It felt nice, like his mom hugging him.

He liked that about her. "Converting magic to energy is really tedious. Id think that it would be much more complicated then casting a spell you'd have to have someone to provide magic. Like....24/7...."

Jamie gulped and slid off the couch, approaching the phone and picking it up. She wasn't sure about what to do or say, but she answered anyway. "Hey, dad..." she greeted. "What's up?" she asked, her nervous eyes looking towards Quin. She regretted picking up the phone as soon as she did it.

This couldn't end well.

Jamie's father tapped his fingers on his desk, glancing over to the window. "So you're back from the other side of the wall? I saw you on the camras." He started casually, his voice a mix of worry and upset. "I thought you were missing."

Quin looked over curiously, trying to understand what was going on. Was she in trouble? Was her dad like his? He was curious but he froze as he heard the next part of the call.

"So who were you with? Find another boy to flaunt with?"

Jamie bit her lip, leaning back against the wall. "I... uh..." she stuttered, looking over at Quin. "I just... I'm fine. No, no boys. Just work. You know how it is, sometimes trips take longer than others..." she ran a hand through her hair anxiously. "What's wrong? What can I do for you? You never call without purpose."

Her father sighed. "It wasn't a question really. I just thought the puns you were hanging with an hour ago on the tape looked at lot like that bastards son. Though coincidences happen." He drawled, leaning back and laughing quietly. "I want to know what's up with you is all, can't a father check up on his daughter? You'd pit your mother to shame...though...I did want to talk to you about something." He stated, flipping the letter in his hand and checking the date.

"If you have time why don't you come and see me tomorrow. You don't have to hide the fact that you were with a boy. You can bring him if you want." He chuckled, going through the papers on his desk. He would need to check a few things.

Jamie stared at Quin, gulping again. "I... uh..." she was nervous, her cheeks red and her eyes wide, but she didn't know what else to say. "Y-yeah, sure. At the office, or at home? I'd uh, prefer home. You know how I feel about the whole office thing. It gives me the creeps, Dad." she looked at Quin. "And no promises about bringing the boy, I'm not exactly ready to give you an introduction to him."

She was freaking out and it showed. Tears pricked in her eyes and she was uncertain of herself.

"I see. Then we can meet at home. If you decide you'll let me look at him up close later, I would like that. Though I trust you wouldn't drag in any trouble...." It didn't really matter if she brought him or not. He would be fine if he was normal. There was something else on her fathers mind. It was leverage. He was hoping she had it.

"Well then I'll look forward to seeing you later. Since you dropped off the face of this side of town for a bit. Goodnight." The phone went silent.

Quin looked very thoughtful. "Think I should dye my hair?" He asked sort of out of place.

Jamie sniffled, wiping tears from her eyes. She was scared. "I..." she shrugged, putting the phone down and walking into the mess of her bedroom. She sat on the bed, burying her head in the pillow. Quin was in danger and there was nothing she could do about it. Nothing at all. So, she cried for what felt like the hundreth time that week.

Quin shifted and got up, maybe he had said something insensitive. "Hey, Jamie? Can I come in?" He asked although he had already opened the door and was making himself comfortable with walking in. He sat on her bed before moving over to her and hugging her.

"Hey....don't cry okay? I don't really know what happened but calm down okay?" He asked, attempting to move down the pillow and get a peek of her eyes. "Jamie?"

Jamie let go of the pillow when he tried to move it, putting it down. "My dad knows. He knows who you are. He knows I was with you. He... he told me he wants you to come with me, and I get the feeling he doesn't just want a friendly introduction to the boy I'm spending time with." she sniffled. "You're in danger. We need to go. We need to leave. We can't stay here."

She was bordering on a panic attack again, her breathing fast and laboured.

(Hey I'm going to the hospital so I'm not sure if I can get on after this for today :/ )

Quin closed his eyes before sighong. "Okay let's head over the fence if it makes you feel safe. However you should still meet up with your dad. So he doesn't cause all hell on my side. Is that okay? I'll wait for you when you're done. How does that sound?" I asked stroking her hair gently.

He didn't want her to panic, he wanted her to relax. Seeing her like this made his heart break a little.

(you okay?)

Jamie wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close against her and letting her head rest on his shoulder as she calmed down. "Yeah, okay." she mumbled, her hands tracing circles on his back and her eyes closed. "I'm okay. I'm fine. I can go see him, but you need to stay on your side of the fence when I go. You can't be on this side, or he'll capture you... and I don't know what his plans are but..."

She cut herself off and leaned up, her lips meeting his again. She didn't know what else to do but kiss him.
