Academy for the Gifted

Before He knew it they were being ushered to the front desk by a impatient (not to mention old) woman.

Warak guessed that she was one of those who had worked here all of 30 years and never once professed any liking for a child. ANY child. She had the frown lines of someone who didn't just take a stand against smiling, she worked avidly against it.

He was certain she would be sending them to their death.

Ronnie raised her eyebrow to the old lady but made sure to keep her mouth shut. She had heard about her and she knew she sometimes didn't mean anything good. She blew her bangs off her face softly, it had become kind of a habit for her and she would do it constantly, before softly clearing her throat to get the old lady's attention.

"Good morning, Miss. We're here to get our job assigned" She tried to use her most soothing and docile tone of voice, without falling in the shallow sweetness some would find themselves falling into when they tried to get something they wanted or avoid to do something they didn't.

"Of course you are!" She replied. "Why else would you be here?" She sighed a longsuffering sigh. "Names?"

Warak answered. "I am Warak and this is Veronica."

She looked at both of them and then looked down to flip through some papers. "There have been several attacks by a local gang. They occurred just outside the academy in the town. They want you two to take care of it."

Ronnie rubbed the back of her neck softly. At least it was not a really horrible one "Ok. Can I have the paper please?" She held out her hand softly. It would had the basic information written on it. As soon as the lady handed her the paper, Ronnie thanked her as she gave her a grateful smile "Thank you" She looked up at Warak and signaled him to come with her out of the office. It was crowded and it would be easier to read it outside.

Warak followed Ronnie out of the office and stood beside her outside. He hadn't even thought to ask for basic information. That was usually taken care of by his old partner. Most of the time he just showed up. He was starting to feel extra glad to have Ronnie around. He never thought these things through.

He looked over at her, she was skimming the page, not even looking in his direction. He absently wondered how she was in action. In a fight. "So what does it say?"

"Just the basics. Like the meeting place and how are we supposed to proceed. It also says when do we have to leave the academy. Here take a look of it yourself" She held the paper out for him to take "I would actually believe it's not a real difficult job. We are also allowed to injure them though we have to avoid killing them" She waited for him to take the paper as she thought about the job.

He took the paper from her and looked it over. It did look fairly simple. It didn't seem like something they couldn't handle. Warak had never seen Ronnie fight, but he was beginning to think that she would surprise him. She had so far. He handed it back to her with a grin, "This should be a piece of cake. You think?"

Ronnie nodded in agreement as she stuffed the paper on her sweater's pocket "It should. It says we have until tomorrow in the morning to leave the academy, I say we sleep well tonight and leave early in the morning, say 8 o'clock maybe?" She turned to him. It was just a suggestion though, they could leave the academy anytime he would want, if he told her he preferred to leave at once she would not disagree.

(Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I'm graduating high school this Friday and I have been SO busy!)

That sounded good to Warak. He needed time to think things over and get ready. "That is fine with me. It will give us time to prepare. 8 'o clock? I'll meet you just outside the grounds and we can head out. Unless there is somewhere else you would like to meet?"

Personality: Lyra is usually pretty carefree and free spirited. She's a friendly girl most of the times though it can depend on her mood. Some consider her quite eccentric, being it that she can do some weird things, but that's just the way she is and sometimes she doesn't really get it why some think of her as strange. She can also be a kind and caring person, mostly with those she holds dear.

Skill Set: Swordsmanship, martial arts and abnormal empathy with animals (They would usually understand her and obey what she says if she demands it)

Weapons: She's got twin swords

Ronnie shook her head "No, that's fine by me" She didn't exactly would say that she needed time to prepare but she could check on her pistols condition and such. Besides, the best time to start a job for her was in the morning. Call it a superstition but that was the best time of the day to start anything, that's how she usually had things done in Spain.

(Graduating? Congrats!! :D )

(I've been super busy too. But with University final exams! >< Oh there is my character btw. Hope it's well done  I'm actually brain dead right now)

Warak nodded his head in affirmation and smiled. "Sounds great. I'll meet you in the morning." They parted ways, both walking toward their rooms. Warak had to admit to himself that preparation didn't really have much to do with his desire to wait until morning to leave. He needed a little time to process this new relationship. He wasn't all too certain how they would get on long term. He had honestly expected their personalities to clash. He supposed that was just his nature. He did tend to lean toward the negative. His motto, if he would even say that he had one, would probably be Expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed. But despite his misgivings and although they didn't have an immediate connection, Warak felt that he and Ronnie had gotten on quite well. And he, despite his nature, dared to hope that they may actually become close... eventually.

Right now though, he was going to sleep. He was actually pretty tired, and though he didn't expect much of a challenge from tomorrows fight (he was pretty good with a flame) he wasn't so cocky that he wouldn't at least get a good nights sleep before a fight. One thing he didn't want was to be caught off guard.

(Thanks! I'm kinda nervous, but I'm sure it will be okay :) ! And I like the character you came up with, sounds interesting. Looking forward to see how the two work out together!)

As Ronnie parted ways with Warak she allowed herself to glance back at him once from the corner of her eye before looking to the front and tucked some loose strands of hair behind her ear. Things had not gotten bad at least. He was.. Okay. Yeah, she guessed that was the word. She just hoped he would do a fine partner, though she didn't have any reason to think otherwise. Now that she thought about it they had not really talked about their skills, she would have to ask him later then, that truly was important to know.

(I hope it was! *^* Thanks xD )

After an oddly restless sleep, Warak was up and getting ready at about 7:30. Sleep had come in fits, and he hadn't been able to really rest. He wasn't quite sure why. No weird dreams, nothing like that, but he'd been restless and agitated all night long.

He was looking forward to today's mission of sorts. He was curious to see Ronnie in action, to see her skill set, something they really hadn't discussed last night. He was also a little nervous about his own performance for some reason. He didn't expect to fail, he was just nervous. He supposed it was probably because he wanted to impress Ronnie, this being the first time they would be working together. He tried to shake it off. Worrying himself with things like that was stupid. Impressing your new partner wasn't the point, helping people was. Not to mention good marks at the acadamy.

By the time Warak was finished, it was a few minutes after 7:50. He would need to hurry if he was going to get there in time. He headed out the door and moved quickly to the exit from the school, in his mind, the best place to meet. He didn't remember if they had set a specific place to meet and he hoped there wouldn't be any trouble finding each other.
He waited by the exit and hoped she would find him alright.

Ronnie had, on the contrary, a quite normal sleep. No dreams though, or at least none that she could remember about, but by the next day in the morning she woke up refreshed and ready for work. She had woken up with plenty of time to get ready and by the time she was done she still had a couple of minutes left for the scheduled meeting. She took the two leg gun holsters, where she carried her two machine pistols and some small knives, from her bed and stood in front of her room's mirror.

She had firmly picked up her brown wavy hair on a pony tail, her grey sweater was gone, replaced by a simple dark shirt, black shorts and black long boots. Yeah, it was all dark and everything but she had learnt with the time wearing black was pretty useful when she preferred to go unnoticed, also mostly because her jobs were done during night time.

She tied each of her leg gun holsters to each of her thighs and walked out of the room, her boots making a faint noise as she walked down the hall to the exit of the dorm's building. When she spotted Warak as she headed to the school's exit gates she tucked a lose strand of her face behind her ear before stopping right by him when she reached him "Ready then?"

Warak had been slightly distracted when Ronnie had come up behind him. So, when he heard her voice he jumped slightly. "Oh, um, yeah, I am." He took in her nearly completely black attire. He had dressed simply, a well fitting grey shirt (a t-shirt, as he didn't want set himself on fire. It wouldn't hurt him, his flames never did. But it would damage the shirt, and after walking around naked one day after a particularly intense fight, he'd had to decide on a dress code) and pants. Maybe he had been wrong? He dismissed this panicked thought, he was sure that he was just worrying unnecessarily again. He adjusted his duel swords on his back and gestured toward the exit. "After you?"

Ronnie nodded as she walked past him, stuffing her hands in her short's pockets "So, which are your skills?" She glanced at him before looking back at the front. The academy's borders were surrounded by a forest like area which separated it from the town and Ronnie actually liked it there. She knew her way around there perfectly though almost any other did so as well, only those who were newbies would actually get lost pretty easily in there.

Soon they were surrounded by tall trees and the noises of nature, it was always like entering a new world, so away from everything. Ronnie would, in fact, sneak out from the academy from time to time to go there and just be alone. She would also do so much often when she just arrived to the academy.

He shoved his hands in his pockets, observing the forest around him while thinking about his answer. "Well, as you know I can create fire." He demonstrated by lighting his forefinger like a candle. He held the flame for a moment before letting it be blown out by the wind. Then he gestured toward the duel swords strapped to his back. "I also have trained for about five years with these twin swords. My trainer says that I have gotten pretty comfortable with them. I like using fire better though. I have used it for longer and have more control over it."

He looked at her and nodded at her. "What about you? What are your best skills? And is there anything else that you would like to know about me?"

"I guess I'm the opposite from you" She raised her hand to him and a little twister like gust of wind formed on it. It was controlled and it soon vanished as well "I'm a wind manipulator but I prefer using my pistols and knives" She lowered her hands to her gun holsters and tapped them "Since I was little I had always have a good aim and since I arrived here I've gotten a lot better"

Ronnie was pretty confident about her aim and actually she had always loved to aim at random things as a challenge since she was little. Eventually she liked to make her targets smaller and place them farther, it entertained her a lot and sometimes was of use to her to relieve her stress. She tapped her chin softly with her index finger as she thought about his last question. Might as well get to know each other better, right?

"How was your former partner?" She tilted her head a little as he looked back at him. Skipping a fallen big branch of a tree almost automatically as she asked, it too was something she knew by heart was already there.

Oh wow! That's interesting!" He tilted his head and thought about her question. Would he offend her by talking his old partner up? He wasn't sure, he didn't know her enough to tell..

He decided to just be honest. "Me and my old partner got along great. We had been friends for a while before being assigned to each other, we were from the same neighborhood, so we were close. I really think that I could go to her for anything. Now that I think about it, I think that she was, is, one of my best friends. We worked well together too. What about you Ronnie? How did you get along with your old partner?"
