Futuristic STARFIRE [A Story of Humanity's Retaliation]

Raven ran up the crumbling debris of the old concrete house, planting his rifle against a railing as he fired another shot at the incoming Seraph. His squad had been separated from the main formation, and they were likely going to be surrounded by the Seraph's pack at any second. Raven grit his teeth as he came to understand their situation, and let out another cannon-like round at the weakpoint of the running Seraph, barely missing. In front of the Seraph, running, was two members of his squadron, Lee and Afraisia. Behind him, Niko was holding his ground against another Seraph at point-blank range.

This was the end.

BOOM! BOOM!

CLANK!!

"Afraisia, get up!", Lee yelled frantically. He desperately pulled at the piece of debris that had crushed Afraisia's legs, a piece of debris set loose by a stray blast of dark matter from the incoming Seraph's cannon. It let out a screech, its weapon slowly recharging as it burst into speed. The beasts claws flashed as it continued to approach the two.

"I can't, don't leave me, don't!", Afraisia begged, looking back at the Seraph in terror. The whole scene made Raven want to vomit, especially because he already knew the outcome of this. He wasn't sure why, he just knew, he could feel it in his bones.

They wouldn't make it.

Glaring down at the two, he yelled from above. "Just make up your mind Lee! Hurry!", Raven yelled out desperately as he watched the two, frantically firing against the Seraph with no odds. Scratches and dents were made, but its weak-spot was too little of a target to hit from where the Ranger had planted himself. If he advanced, it would be suicide, as he was sure that the Seraph's pack members were going to surround the three-story building at any moment.

"I can't leave her, Raven! Just.. kill the thing and help me get her out! You can do it, you're the strongest here!", Lee panicked as he pulled at the debris, his eyes filled with tears as he looked up to see the Seraph mere feet from his face.

SSSSCHK!!!

Blood sprayed from the quick dispatching of Lee and Afraisia, the Seraph's claw quickly slashing downwards and then up, mimicing an upper-cut. It had went straight through the back and front of Afraisia's head, while successfully decapitating Lee and launching his head against the railing nearby Raven, sending blood splashing unto the already injured Ranger's face as he took on anger.

He couldn't die here, he had so much to live for. Raven had just watched his friends die, and all that came from Niko's COMM was the sound of gunfire and other blurry noises. He didn't want to die alone, and he sure as hell wasn't going to die here.

Raven fired another round as the Seraph began running once more, nailing its weak-point. The alien let out a shriek as gas escaped from its torso, another round entering nearby the glowing heart-like weakspot as it shook. The Seraph fell unto its back and began to convulse, before exploding into a cloud of gas and yellow-green blood. Strange purple and black gum-like tissues and muscles fell from around the nearby sky, and two more Seraphim were caught in the corners of Raven's eye.

The Ranger began making his way down the stairs, seeing as there was no other way out of the ruined concrete building. Niko was seemingly still fighting, and yet his marker on Raven's minimap was clearly frozen still. Either it was a malfunction, or Raven was just hearing Niko being devoured dramatically.

"Damn!", Raven cursed as he turned to step out of the entrance when he spotted a Seraph on a somewhat mountain of debris. Rain began to pelt the ground as storm clouds settled in, and the dramatic scene was finished by a shriek from the monster, calling its nearby pack-members towards the location. Instead of simply killing Raven, this one expressed somewhat of a hesitant nature, yet it was so eagerly chewing on Lee's right arm, devouring the human flesh as it stared the Ranger down. Nearby, Raven could see a dying Niko, being dragged by the claws of another Seraph.

Raven began running, dodging the claw of the nearest Seraph as he did so. He regretablly left his friend behind, feeling fear in his heart as tears rolled down his cheeks, washed away be the heavy rain. He quicky put his gas-mask on throughout his run, and loaded his gun once more.

Not sure where he was going in the fog, Raven spotted a light, a beacon of hope. The Ranger continued to approach it with a growing expectancy, before noticing the puddles of blood nearby, and the empty shells of bullets. When he reached the light, he only found the bitten-in-half head and helmet of another Ranger, a shocking but disturbing look on his face. Raven shook his head and let out a kick of frustration at one of the nearby guns, followed by a grunt.

But not his grunt.

Watching the rifle roll by, he traced it to the end of some sort of tall figure. Looking up, he noticed a lengthy Seraph staring down at him, before it let out a loud roar. With a yelp, he threw himself back and drew a rapier-class blade, shaking as he aimed it readily. Not here. Not now!!

"For Humanity!"
