Joseph frowned as he looked at her "Sorry if I woke you...someone went for your dad. Gino called, said that they said 'she' wasn't there. Can only presume it might be you." He explained before taking a deep breath "We need to get Sofia here too, just in case."

Max smiled softly as he came back down once they were home. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply "God I have missed you." She whispered

She shook her head. “Shit. No Sofía is safer with Henry. They won’t know about him. He was never around long enough to meet anybody… why don’t we just go back to bed? The security systems are working. We’ll get an alarm if anyone tries breaking in.” She assured him, rubbing his back. “Joe baby come in. You need sleep as welll”

He smiled and held her tightly, burying his face into her hair. “I know sweetheart and I’m home now.” He murmured, kissing her head, jumping when the door opened and Jake walked in. “Anyone following?” He asked frowning, his paranoia through the roof after the constant attacks he’d had while he was in there.

Joseph gave a heavy sigh nodding some "Alright....just...just make sure to call him okay?" He mumured before taking her back up to bed pulling her close to him as he tried to go back to sleep.

Max jumped as well when Jake came in 'Looks clear right now.' She heard him say before taking a seat 'We're gonna keep a watch on the house for this week, if nothing happens we should be in the clear.'

She nodded and sighed quietly, laying there in silence for about an hour before finally rolling over to straddle his hips. “I cannot get back to sleep.” She told him frowning seeing he was also wide awake.

He just nodded and frowned. “We uh,.. we’re gonna go lay down.” He told him slowly and started to tug max up the stairs.

Joseph placed his hands on her hips nodding some "Me either." He mumbled giving a heavy sigh before letting his hands run up and down her sides "I just want you safe, our family safe."

Max watched as Jake nodded and made his way out. She locked the doors before heading up to her room with him "Its gonna be okay. We'll be safe."

She frowned some and watched him, leaning down and placing her hands either side of his head. “Do you think we should still do this trip to see your family?” She asked him a little worried about being so far away from home.

He just nodded and frowned some, pulling off the T-shirt and jeans, wanting out of his old clothes and into some clean fresh ones, revealing every bruise and scar and fresh cut but worst of all was the straight bar across his stomach that was a clear second degree burn mark

Joseph frowned softly and gave a heavy sigh "Yeah we need it. We'll be safe...I'll keep us safe." He murmured before kissing her lovingly pressing her softly to him

Max frowned as she watched him start to change "Jon..." she breathed gettimg him to stop as she saw the burn across his stomach "Baby you need to clean this." She murmured pulling him gently to the bathroom

He frowned and just nodded, going to sit on the edge of her bathtub, watching her some while he let her do what she needed, feeling her hands brush over every mark on him.

Carmen nodded some and smiled “mmm maybe if we get busy it’ll fire us out so we can get back to sleep.” She mumbled, kissing him a little deeper… she lay next to him after and chucked her clothes back on, laying next to him again. “I love you. Get some rest. You need it.” She murmured.

Max cleaned his wound before inspecting the rest of them. He had gotten so many more and it was worriesome "I won't ask how it happened, but you need to make sure to place this cream on it every few hours okay?" She said softly before giving him a quick kiss

Joseph gave soft pants as they finished up and nodded softly pulling on his boxers "You too love." He said softly before he started to finally fall back to sleep

He just nodded and frowned, pulling her in closer again. “You wanna lay with me?” He asked her quietly, exhausted and just excited to sleep in a proper bed again

She smiled to herself and moved to have some space on her side of the bed to spread out a bit more, asleep within minutes for once but it wasn’t going to last. She was woken up just before her alarm would go off to the sound of yelling in the house and immediately got up, chucking clothes on when she didn’t recognise the voices

Max smiled softly at him and nodded some "Yes I do, its been lonely not having you next to me." She said softly before kissing him gently and laying down with him

Joseph was up as well throwing a shirt on before grabbing his gun "Hide." He told her seriously before he made his way down to take care of these men

Carmen frowned some but just agreed for now, going to the guest room closet and staying in there, listening out for everything.

He smiled tiredly and just pulled her in close. “I don’t know if you’re gonna wanna keep me around now. It’s not the same as two years ago.” He mumbled frowning some.

Joseph saw one guy and fired off hitting him directly. He saw another and did the same but had no clue there was a third man there until he heard Carmen yelling for him and running from her hiding spot.

Max frowned softly as she listened to him shakimg her head some "Don't talk like that. I love you, and I'm going to be here." She said softly

She had heard the two shots go off and started coming out. Having only heard three voices initially anyway and now none, slowly heading downstairs and seeing him checking round doors now until she spotted one more person walking in through the back door straight towards him. “Joseph turn around!” She screamed to him, legging it over towards him and pulling her gun from the hallway drawer while she heard them scuffle, aiming for the other guy, clearly Irish and finally let off her trigger, at the same time hearing two loud bangs from their side of the room.

He frowned and shook his head. “I’m not the same person. I still love you but I just don’t want to get your hopes up.” He explained to her quietly

Joseph grunted as he collided with the man trying his best to disarm him. He went wide eyed when he felt two shots go off and dropped to the ground looking over towards Carmen "C-C-Carmen.." he stuttered out before he coughed and blood came out quickly.

Max nodded softly and kissed him lovingly "I know, and I am still here." She said softly

She froze in place for a moment before rushing to him, pulling her phone out and calling emergency services immediately. “Joseph! Joseph you look at me!” She coaxed carefully. “Shh Shh don’t try and talk just look at me.” She murmured, putting all the pressure in the correct spots.

He just nodded and held onto her a little tighter, burying his face into her hair while he drifted off on the comfiest bed he’d slept on in a long time

Joseph grunted as he stared at her with pained eyes. He reached up and cupped her face while taking sharp pained breaths "I....love you.." he wheezed out before coughing up more blood staring to pass out from the loss of blood.

Max layed with him for a while and fell asleep as well. She woke up later amd gave a soft smile seeing him still asleep. She got up quietly and made her way downstairs to start on lunch for them.

“No no no, you look at me, don’t go to sleep. Hey hey stay awake honey come on.” She begged him quietly, catching his hand as it fell from her face. “Joseph! Don’t you dare.” She whimpered, looking up when emergency services finally arrived and let them take over, standing to the side and shaking like mad, ending up calling Henry. “Hey, hey she’s gotta stay with you just today. There’s been… he’s been shot. And I don’t know if he’s gonna be okay.” She sobbed down the line.

Jon eventually woke up and frowned seeing the empty bed, rushing downstairs and sighing in relief when he finally saw her sat in the kitchen, taking a deep breath. “Don’t scare me like that.” He mumbled going over and kissing her head, going to get a beer out of her fridge

Henry frowned when his phone starting ringing early that morning. He went a bit wide eyed when he heard Carmen on the other end sobbing "Hey....hey deep breaths alright? I'll keep her as long as you need me to alright?" He said gently trying to help her calm down

Max looked over at him and gave a small frown "Sorry, I couldn't sleep anymore. I got some food on for lunch." She said softly while looking at the timer on her phone "Should be done in about fifteen minutes."

She whimpered and nodded, burying her face into her free hand. “Once she’s up can you call me? I just wanna talk to her real quick okay?” She whimpered and hung up once he agreed, getting up when they said they were moving him but she would have to drive.

He nodded and frowned. “Maybe… maybe if we do that… if you just leave a note.” He mumbled frowning and held her a little tighter for a minute before sitting down

Max frowned deeper but gave a small nod "Yeah...I can do that." She said softly before sitting with him "How is your burn feeling?"

The emergency crew quickly rushed Joseph to a safe location and into surgery to try and repair the damage to his gut and lung.

She made all her phone calls while she waited for any news, calling to get someone out to Henry's place to keep an eye on him and Sofía for her. She didn't think it would be tried but she didn't want to risk it either.

Jon just nodded and shrugged "Not so bad now.... They used the bunsen burners in one of the workshops.... Heat up a broken pipe... Pinned me down and kept going til they were caught." He mumbled, staring at the table the whole time. "The Irish."

The doctors came back to get her a few hours later. He sighed heavily "Shot to the gut missed vital organs thankfully. The second shot though, its gone through his lung, with that and the blood loss. Its a high possibility he may not see tomorrow."

Max frowned some giving a small nod "The Irish? What....what do they have against you?" She askrd softly

She got up and nodded, wringing her hands a little "Can I go see him?" She asked quietly, swallowing back tears the whole time while she made her way in there with him and stood in the doorway staring at him for a minute before going to sit next to his bed "Joe? Baby I'm here... I'm right here." She murmured softly to him, taking his hand in hers tightly.

He shook his head and scoffed a bit before taking a swig of his beer "It's not personal... It's the business... This feud goes back a couple decades... It's why I always said no hospital... I never wanted to end up inside... It's not safe. The Irish have far too many connections in there for it to be safe for us." He mumbled.

The doctor led her back and gave a heavy sigh "He won't be responsive for a while. Right now the ventilator is doing most of his breathing." He explained before leavimg her to it.

Antonio came in later that day frowning deeply when he saw the state kf his daughter "Carmen?" He asked softly before going to her

Max gave a nod before getting up to check on the food "Right, well I can tell you that I have been safe here." She said before sighing some "Work has been going good for me, I actually got published in a magazine." She said happily trying to brighten the mood
