Deep within the Digital World, hidden from all aspects of light and everything good, layered under a veil of shadowy code, twisted dark energy created from the deepest parts of the web, there is a castle. It resides deep in the Dark Area. Rumor has it that it exists in its own dimension, yet through means not known even to the Virtuous Hierarchy of the Digital World, a task force of sorts of the highest and holiest of Digimon. It is rumored that the aftermath of a war between the forces of good and the most vile the Digital World resides in that castle.

But of course it is just a rumor. Nobody can say for certain just exactly what resides in that which is called The Cosmic Castle

evil-castle.png

Location —Deep Under the Dark Area, Digital World

Inside the Cosmic Castle, there exists a room deep underground. Under the dunes of ethereal-looking sand, under the very earth that is filled with data fragments of Digimon past, is a complex maze of tunnels leading to what can only be assumed is the Digital World. Areas to the world that is full of life and beings that co-exist with each other (though not always for the better). But where these tunnels lead is not somewhere nobody who isnt’ meant to be there should ever venture.

At the end of the Abyss, this room houses the most vile of the vile. One man sits in front of seven monitors. Is this a man or beast? Nobody knows. Light only shows the face of a man with darkened skin, wearing a cowl. An arm too big for his humanoid-proportioned body and in front of him are the seven monitors of those he leads.

Each of the seven monitors emits a light associated to those seven sins the humans hold so dear in their holy book. Each of the seven monitors has a sigil associated with each of those sins and each sit patiently from their own corner of the world, connected only through the Dark Net.

“How many of them are there truly?” The man looking at the monitors asked, his voice a deep one. He sat in a comfortable chair and the hand of the smaller arm tapped and rapped on the arm rest while the bigger arm was placed under his chin. He sat like a composed boss of an organization and one might say he was.

“Eight…Maybe nine,” the voice of an eloquent man spoke. He came from the monitor that emitted a deep purple glow. “I would have to check my findings again, but it seems there’s eight confirmed.”

“Eight. And what about the potential ninth?”

Before the one from the Purple Monitor could speak, the one from the Monitor that Emits Gold took the liberty of speaking in his stead, “Who the fuck cares? We’ll kill them all the same!” This one held a rough edge to his tone. The one known for their lack of tact.

“Now Now, boys, let’s not lose sight of the goal. I mean, our leader gathered us all together…or at least as close to it as he could. The Seven Lords couldn’t be in one place or even this place would be nothing.” As a female, with a voice as sultry as her reputation, spoke from the monitor that emitted a green energy. She would be smirking from her side, though nobody but Paradise and her leader would see it.

“Liithmon is right,” Paradise spoke up, the red monitor flickering an immense display of power. “We are the Lords of Sin, the Demonic overseers of both the Digital World’s salvation and its ruin. Those chosen by those clowns in that little Prism Tower are meant to challenge us eventually. So calm yourself, beelzemon or maybe it is time I teach you another painful lesson in acknowledging your king!” The monitor flickered again, more of the same demonic red energy being flexed.

“Lucemon! Calm yourself!” The man sitting in front of the monitors commanded. “Barbamon, your calculations are always on point. Eight is the confirmed number, is this correct?”

“Without certainty. That ninth seems elusive, so I will adjust my systems accordingly and report back when I get to the bottom of this.” Before anyone could respond, Babramon signed off, his monitor going black.

“Always the impatient one,” Lucemon commented. “Oh well. Perhaps when we all can bother to speak, we will have a better decorum.” Lucemon pointed out what their leader no doubt realized.

Leviamon, Belphemon, and Daemon, though present, refused to participate.

“Belphemon I understand. Poor child has been asleep for feels like a century. Can’t recall the last time he went into a rage."

“The war, you ditz!” Beelzemon snapped at Lilithmon, annoyed already at her intentional display of ignorance.

Lilithmon simply stuck her tongue out at the brute and signed off.

As the final three remained…well two, as the Demon Lord of Gluttony would sign off without a word too, Lucemon let out a small sigh. “I missed when the power hadn’t gone to their heads. How is it that I, the glorious Lucemon, is the only one to show a bit of manners. Honestly, if it wasnt’ for the fact that their deaths would mean we lost a significant place in the power struggle, I’d go to each of their spires and kill themselves.”

The man that sat in front of the monitors was tapping his hand even louder and then with a literal snap, his hand crushed the chair he sat on. Even from as far as Lucemon was, he could feel it. The anger, the wrath, the complete disregard for his allies.

Their leader was about to snap and unlike any of the seven, he could do kill them all from where he sat and he didn’t need to move an inch. That’s who commanded the Seven Demon Lords. That’s who reigned over those seven horsemen of the apocalypse. The one who was bested only by the literal creator of the Digital World. The one that rebelled against god and who himself and himself only was granted — or cursed, depending on who you ask — the title that nobody else in the existence of the Digital World was given.

Bagramon, The Sage of Death.

“I understand. I crossed into the garden not knowing it would anger God.”

“No, Lucemon. That is my crime. Yours is a more simpler sin. You are a victim of your own pride. Now, sign off before I rid this world of its hubris.”

No words were spoken after the fact. There was simply static and the snoring of Belphemon, whose mind had yet to sign off. Daemon had signed off before Lucemon’s threats, but Babramon could sense it in Belphemon. The century long slumber would soon come to an end.

One thing about those that are lazy is that they aren’t lazy because they lack the will to do anything. It’s because when they do act, they make up for what they lost. Belphemon would awaken and all dimensions would see his rage rival even that of Daemon. Not even Lucemon in his Wrathful state can trump the secret weapon of the Cosmic Coalition.

Location — Prism Tower, Seven Star Kingdom, File Continent, Digital World

At the epicenter of the File Continent, there is a kingdom that is said to not just hold the secrets and true enlightenment of the Digital World, but where the very king that rules over all Digimon kind resides. In this kingdom, known as the Seven Star Kingdom, there is a tower that shines so bright it is often seen as a beacon of true hope. It represents the bravest courage, the most compassionate of kindness, a sincere reminder that it is reliable beyond reproach, but it is also a friend to everyone. Those that reside in it love and adore all digimon and protects them. It is the light that must combat the dark.

There are seven that reside that are said to be the best representation of all that is good.

They are led by the Three Archangels, those who represent the highest level of light in the digital world and are the frontline defense for its stability.

Cherubimon, the Compassionate
Seraphimon, the Buoyant
Ophanimon, the Pure

Then, there are four others that serve as cornerstones for the Digital World. These four are the digimon who hold equal power but represent aspects that are essential for the Digital World’s longevity.

SlashAngemon, the Brave. The one who leads into battle with courage and an unwavering never-say-die attitude.

LovelyAngemon, the Passionate. The one who cares so deeply for her friends that she will die for them and be a shield or a shoulder to cry on.

LordAngemon, the Enlightened. A master stragegist and knower of everything, anything, and nothing in the Digital World. Nothing exists without him knowing about it.

ClavisAngemon, the Dependable. A friend. A true warrior. An ally. This one is everything you could ask for in a general and it is said that along with SlashAngemon, they lead the Holy forces in all battles.

The Seven Stars of the Digital World all stand around a seven-pointed star-shaped table, gazing at an orb projecting an image of a world that is like their own, but vastly different. The image of two mountains with a town nestled between them is seen. Humans walking about, making preparations for some kind of special event. The stars smile and nod at each other, seemingly waiting for the signal.

There was a rumble and the visage of a gold figure, eyes whiter than the brightest star. The rumble made them all tremble but smile and from Cherubimon all the way to ClavisAngemon, they all smiled, each (including the mysterious gold figure) held out a hand, something shining in their hand. It flickered different colors and slowly began to combine into each other, swirling around to create a prism of colors and then it vanished into the star-shaped monitor.

“Now it is time we wait.” Seraphimon spoke. Waiting was all they could do, to see if they truly were the chosen ones or if the prophecy about the end of the Digital World was correct or not.

June 20th, 2025, 6:30 — 1 Hour Until the Summer Solstice begins
Niyama Town, Hokkaido Prefecture

Niyama Town was alive with activity.

It had been for almost a week now. Tourists from all over that ranged from Eastern Europe to other prefectures in Japan to even the United States of America had gathered to see what everyone always ventures to the small town in the northern most part of the Hokkaido Prefecture that one can get without having to scale the high peaks one sees off in the distance. And there are a few reasons why one might come to this small town.

The internet is alive with stories and rumors and urban myths about Niyama Town and her big attraction. Some claim there are talking fairies that live in the two mountains that nestle the town into the most picture-esque visage one could dream. Others claim it’s a gateway to another world and then there are the more outrageous myths that everyone in Niyama are yokai and they want to lure in tourists so they could devour their flesh and feast on their organs.

That one always made everyone in town laugh.

The truth is far less fantastical and more in line with a scientific reason.

Every year, almost on the dot right down to the last second, Niyama has been blessed with a meteor shower. It’s been like this for years. Nobody knows why it’s Niyama Town. The stories start there but it is the reason why a lot of tourists come to the small town that is otherwise devoid of outsiders. It’s become both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because the money has allowed for the city to prosper during the Summer months, but with such an influx of foreigners, it’s not only forced the mayer of Niyama town to put up some of the visiting shooting star enthusiasts in tents on the outskirts, but the only inn in the town has had to make adjustments to just how many people are allowed per room.

But that doesn’t stop the festivities. Drinks and food, decorations fashioned after stars and the sun all around Niyama could be seen. The week had been devoted to making sure everyone felt the importance of Nogareboshi no Omatsuri — The Falling Star Festival.

Music played, people danced, telescopes were placed along paths high up on the mountains (within safe and breathable elevation of course), and lights would soon dim.

But for one adventurous girl who opted to skip most of the festivities, she chose to not take part. Crowds and especially those of the outsider variety, she chose to stick with what she had intended to do all along.

Sakiko was a girl known for her treks into the mountainous paths. Sometimes she got lost and she would be in the mountains for a few days. Nobody really bothered to look for her if it was just a few days because she wasn’t really the type to stay up there for long. She always managed to find her way back because that’s just the kind of girl Kiki was. It didn’t hurt that she knew the trails like the back of her hand. She always had a plan b in her back pocket.

As she walked along the trails, Kiki kept looking at her phone to see what time it was. They all said that the meteor shower would happen at 7:40pm. Literally on the dot and she wanted to get high enough on the mountain so she could get a good look at it. “Not much longer,” she spoke to herself, taking long strides forward, moving faster but not being in any real hurry.

She wondered if she was the only one taking this path. She tried to avoid the outsiders as much as she could only because she didn’t want to be forced to make conversation with them. She knew she had the habit of saying too much and the ginger explorer didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the wrong thing or assuming the wrong thing about them.

She really had to fix that part about her.

“I hope the guests enjoy them! I made sure to make some extra for you and your family as well so please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve on the flavors for next year,” Asami bowed respectfully to the matron of the inn before leaning further to grab her backpack which she’d set aside when finishing up her delivery. “I’m interested to know what you think.”

The kind matron bid a hearty farewell to the girl-– the festival was starting to get underway and Asami still needed to change into her kimono since her work was technically finished. She glanced down at her overalls and beamed at the thought of donning her special starfall kimono. She had bought a new one to wear for this year’s Nogareboshi no Omatsuri so she wasted little time flitting off for the guest bathrooms to change. Her mind was already abuzz with a game plan: what to eat, games to play, souvenirs to purchase and some much needed time away from work on Inoue Farm. The night held a different sort of energy from festivals of the past; while Asami couldn’t quite put her finger on what exactly was so different about this year, she wasn’t about to dally too much in contemplation.

Emerging from the bathrooms in her new kimono, the farm girl took a last little look at herself and grinned. The deep, rich, rust colored orange made for an excellent backdrop to the delicate looking golden floral pattern that gave the garment a luxurious feel. She felt absolutely in her element and with an extra jaunt in her step, Asami made her way to the festival square. Before she truly arrived however, the smell of open-air cooking reached her first and caused her mouth to water.

“When was the last time I ate today?” The girl mused softly to herself, glancing down at her stomach when it gave an unseemly growl. “Mmmm~ I could really go for a couple skewers…”

She fixed the bright red bow in her long blonde hair before heading into the throng of tourists swarming the place and the locals opening Niyama Town up to them. The square was lively and the energy was infectious. Asami enjoyed being around people and just chatting idly-– but she REALLY enjoyed eating festival foods. There was just something about eating normal fare surrounded by merry crowds that gave it that extra bit of zest. Having lived in Hokkaido her entire life, Asami was used to it all but the influx of foreigners was thrilling.

Before she could zero in on her goal of feeding her angrily complaining stomach however, a souvenir stand caught her eye. There were all sorts of accessories being sold but she was drawn to the hair clips. Upon the arranged display was a cute barrette in the shape of a sun, its rays shimmering with glitter that seemed to come from a lightsource unseen. Asami didn’t hesitate— she purchased the clip and peered into a small mirror at the corner of the stall to affix it to her hair. The clip was perfect and added to her overall sunshiney self; it was the perfect compliment to her new kimono.

“Freeeeeesh beef tongue skewers!” A vendor called out while wafting the scent of meat cooking over coals out towards the passersby. “We also have pork and green onion fresh as well!”

Like a woman possessed, Asami turned on her heels and headed straight for the stall. She ordered two of each skewer the vendor was known for, Asami wasn’t one to dither, and cackled almost maniacally to herself when she came away with four full sized skewers…all for herself. Standing off to the side, Asami bit into the tender beef tongue and sighed with great satisfaction. The meat was still incredibly juicy and had been prepared simply to enhance the flavor without masking it. A little salt and the permeating flavor of the smoke lended to the intense beef taste that left her hungrily devouring another piece.

THIS was what festivals were all about.

As Asami stood aside to enjoy her food, a part of her wondered when her friend would come to join her. They’d arranged to meet at the festival square itself but a time hadn’t been agreed upon since Asami had some deliveries to make and her friend had a slew of summer studies to keep up with. Life in Hokkaido was rather predictable so the two had made vows to see what they could of the world…if given the chance to. While Asami hadn’t exactly given up hope in such adventurous goals, the thought of leaving Inoue Farm and by extension her family weighed heavily upon her heart. The beef tongue dulled in flavor ever so slightly at the thought of her dreams remaining just so: dreams.

‘Ahhh…this isn’t the time to worry about such things. The food will get cold!’

The girl perked back up and bit into the pork and green onions next. She gave another pleasant sigh and sat down upon a wooden bench with the perfect view of the Odori dances happening at the very center of Niyama Town’s square. It was difficult to dwell on unpleasant thoughts for long when one had good food and good entertainment on hand to distract them. Asami was a naturally hopeful girl and knew everything would work out in the end if one was tenacious enough to chase after their goals.

Content with herself for the time being, Asami swayed lightly in time with the rhythm of the music and enjoyed her snack with a rather warm smile on her lips. All was well and peaceful in Niyama Town— as it ever was and as it ever would be.

Rachel woke up early in the morning every day to walk her pet dogs, 20 in total, through the streets of Niyama to let all of them get some exercise and enjoy the clean air of the town. She's done this for the last 10 years, and had started with just 3 dogs, one being a Boxer, another being a Pomeranian, and a third a Shiba Inu. Her adopted family had grown since, with their latest member being a Shitzhu. Once she finished walking them all, she took them to the backyard at home to run around and play at, while she went to run some errands for the day.

Her Father wasn't home at all today either. Her father was always busy, never having time to talk to her. Rachel was heading out the door when her mother waved and reassured her with kind words, "Have a good day sweetie!"
Rachel smiled and waved back. "You know I will!"

Rachel's errands didn't involve fetching stuff from stores to bring back, or paying bills at a company (She doesn’t have a job yet.), but rather she went into town to help people, as she was a kind person. She saw many people setting up stalls for the festival, and she asked each one if they needed help. A good majority said they were alright with setting up on their own, and thanked her for her offer, before Rachel went to ask the next person. She helped set up a couple of game stalls, which involved throwing stuff to knock down a object to win, and as a reward (she never wanted any, but the stall owners insisted), she got a new Phone. Rachel thanked the stall owners before walking off to find more people to help.

It was past noon when the festival began, and Rachel noticed a food stall owner having trouble with cooking while taking orders from customers. Rachel ran over to help, taking over as cook, so the owner can focus on taking peoples orders.
Rachel lost track of time, but she was definitely keeping up with the demand for the vendors best known dish, Beef Tongue skewers. Rachel snuck a peek or two at the customers who would arrive, her eyes eventually catching a glance of a cute girl with long blonde hair and a big red bow to compliment it.

"Cute." Rachel whispered to herself before focusing back on her work. After a bit, the stall was closing. "Thank you for the help!" The stall owner shook Rachel's hand. "I don't think I could have survived without it!" Rachel would laugh and reply, "It's not a big deal! I like to help people!" After Rachel said her goodbyes, she walked away, feeling quite pleased with herself. She was looking to the sky, noticing it had gotten dark out, but the festival lanterns brightened the area. Rachel wondered when the show would start, when she crashed into someone.

Rachel found herself on top of a familiar someone, and embarrassed, she quickly got off of her and on her knees, looked away out of guilt. "I'm sorry! I wasn't paying attention!" She immediately said, to try and lessen whatever anger the girl she ran into had. And that's how she first met Asami.....

From Silent Dusk Inn to Festival

"Thank you, Asami" A kind looking older woman said, her smile, even if tired, was sincere. "It's always a pleasure to have your food, now go enjoy yourself" She ended as the girl went out.

"Walking by" A younger man passed by, carrying a broom and several bags, his long dark hair with blonde streaks was tied on a ponytail and his blue eyes, even without much shine, but he did seem sharper as he carried his burden.

"Man, did they raise these people in a barn? Ever heard of picking up after themselves?"

"Be nice, Yuki" His mother said, even if she didn't fully disagree. The days surrounding the Nogareboshi no Omatsuri were always a challenge. The sudden influx of people, many from different parts of the world pushed everyone to their limits, even while getting more temporary workers. And with the increased number of people, they also had to worry about coordinate everyone's efforts to keep kitchens and the cleaning going smoothly. And more people could increase the number of unruly costumers. Luckily, the Yugure family was strong and willing to help. Yukimura's personality might not be all that suited for service, but he worked hard for this season to be a success. If only he held back his tongue with the tougher guests...

"Better get going" He said, making sure everything was stored properly. With things done, Yukimura left to change. Today, it was his day in the party.

Taking , with his blue and black hoodie and black jeans, he left for the door, even highfiving a few of the workers in the way out.

Perhaps he could have dressed up fancier, but he never felt like he could have pulled it off. And the sports bag on him would have made the look fall apart worse.

This was his day, so for now, he went to see what catches his eye.

Jason's Apartment

The day started as it always did. Jason woke up to his lonely apartment, hating everything and feeling hopeless. He knew it was because he hadn't taken his meds. His mind flooded with the dark thoughts he grew up knowing. The world was a dark place in his eyes. Laying there with his eyes locked on a blank wall. In his head he knew that he just needed his meds, but he found it so hard to move.

It was about noon when he finally got up. He walked over to his bathroom and swallowed the pills that allowed his brain to function normally. Taking a quick shower and dressing in new clothes. A simple black t-shirt and jeans that he normally wore. By the time all was done his meds kicked in and he finally felt okay. He looked over to his work bench, one of about 100 unfinished projects he had. Despite his hyper fixation, he had many unfinished projects. Mostly due to his own needs to get things right. To the best of his ability and sometimes it took time to think.

After a while of moving mindlessly through his home he ended up sitting out on his balcony, looking up at the sky. His telescope ready for the show. His heart ached, not from his sadness, but his loneliness. Ever since his parents died he had been alone and just figured once he was strong enough for people to rely on, he would find friends and maybe.....just maybe, a family.

After a moment or two his eyes fell to the festivities below him. Wondering what it felt like to be comfortable in a crowd. Wondering what it felt like to have someone to call upon. Someone to guard you from even the small things that others can see but you can't.

After a while of stewing in his thoughts he moved inside, made himself a cup of coffee and returned to the balcony to await the stars.

Nakano Nagi

"Kid!" A shout came through the house as Nagi was putting her sneakers on, pack slung over her back. As much as she liked looking nice in a kimono, it wouldn't suit what she was going to do today. Damn shame. "You gonna go enjoy the festival?" Her dad asked from inside.

"Yeah!" Nagi called back, hoping he wouldn't notice the few tallboys of Sapporo missing so soon. "Remember what the doctor said, asshole! No deep fried shit! Any of the boys enable you again, I'm gonna shove my boot up their asses!"

"Gahahahaha!" Nakano Kazuhiro cackled from the living room. "Go have fun, don't worry about your old man! Some of the boys are manning stalls today, they'll give you a good deal."

"Sure, whatever. Don't come crying to me when you're having a heart attack at sixty." Nagi called back, hightailing it out of the house with a sigh. Her dad was absolutely going to go apeshit on the unhealthy festival food later, as he did every year. That literal motherfucker. Or at least he would be if she had anything resembling a mother and not a bitch who ran out on them. Nagi's expression soured slightly at the thought before she hightailed it over towards the festival in the village square.

As usual for this holiday, the fucking place was crowded beyond belief with tourists of all stripes. It was early, too! How much sooner did she have to leave the house every year to beat the crowds?! Nagi gave an exasperated roll of her eyes before quickly beelining for a food stall run by a member of the clan, as was custom for festivals. One heavily discounted order later, she had a to-go box of takoyaki shoved into her bag. Nevertheless, with this and some convenience store snacks to go with her beer, she started the ascent up the mountains outside Niyama.

___

The climb took no few hours, but eventually, Nagi found her way up the mountain to a clearing where she knew she'd have a good view of the meteor shower. She sat down in the grass, pulled her bag off her back, and grabbed a can of beer and the takoyaki she'd ordered earlier. It was cooled now, but it'd still make a decent drinking snack. Nagi pulled the tab and took her first sip of the day, sighing in contentment at the taste of Sapporo in the afternoon.

Now this was the fucking life. A nice view, good drinks, and nothing to bother her-

Rustle, rustle.

Fuck's sake, what was that in the bushes? Nagi grumbled to herself as she kept swigging Sapporo nonetheless, keeping an eye on where she'd heard the noise from. Better not be a cop. Anyone else that gave her shit, she could punch out. Police'd be a different story, what with her dad and the yakuza and all.

"Who's there?" She called out, practically stabbing a takoyaki ball with a toothpick before lifting it to her mouth and chowing down. "And what'll it take to get you to fuck off? Spot's claimed!"

Mountain Clearing
Outskirts of Niyama Town, Hokkaido Prefecture

"Just admit it girl, you're lost..."

Kiki was not lost. And even if she was, there was bound to be a clearing to show up eventually. Part of the fun of exploring was even if you had a solid grasp of the terrain and where everything was, there was still a chance that you would get lost in the excitement of exploring that you forgot to pay attention to important landmarks.

Or that would be what Sakiko would tell herself if she wasn't bullshitting herself through and denying what she would later admit to herself not even a minute later.

As she dragged her feet on the dirt, twigs and clumps of dirt snapping and crushing under the heavy soles of her hiking boots, Kiki had all but given up any hope of finding her way out of the mountain forest of trees. It was then she found herself tripping over a rock that wasn't supposed to be there, the screaming of a girl tumbling for twenty seconds could be heard by anyone who was within earshot, but no way in hell anyone would be up here. Just no way.

But if there was one thing she was grateful for it was that the slight disagreement she had with gravity led to her hearing sounds of what sounded like someone else. So, the ginger did what anyone else would do when they weren't sure if the person they were about to be within socializing distance of was friend or foe.

She proceeded forward with as much stealthy caution as someone with her grace could. There was only one problem with that. In the midst of her trying to be sneaky, Kiki didn't see the larger-than-a-twig stick under her feet as it snapped loud enough to alert that person. At the same time she would recognize them, they would snap at her like that stick did.

"Don't stab me it's me!" Kiki revealed herself, walking into the clearing, the warm sunlight illuminating her presence. "I was just trekking through the mountain and decided to take an... alternate route." Denial reigns supreme in Kiki but she grinned so much that she practically convinced herself.

"Darn it Rei! Is the yukata really necessary?" Jun complained as his sister practically dragged him down the street the festival was taking place. Due to his wearing the more feminine version of the garment in question, anyone who did not know him would think he was a more reluctant, shy girl that was forced to keep up with her sister.
"Oh quit your whining, you look great!" Rei retorted with a very smug expression before explaining. "Just be glad I didn't want to ruin the kimono trying to wrestle you into it. And of course it's necessary. It's a festival after all!"
"Ugh, come on sis!" Jun continued to protest. "It's embarrassing being seen in this!"
"And, it'll be even worse for you if everyone else realizes you're actually a guy." Rei retorted. "So I suggest you quit whining about it and put on your best twin sister act. It isn't like we'll run into anyone we know."
Jun gave a sigh of resignation. He knew his sister was right, but that did not mean he had to like it. The only reason Rei was able to force Jun into the yukata in the first place was because she was physically stronger than he was. One would almost think some circuits were swapped and wires were crossed prior to their birth. "Alright, but you're paying for everything. And I'm not going to hold back as much as usual."
Jun warned Rei who was still smiling. At least, until she realized that he was serious about that last bit. He may not look it, but Rei knew Jun had a crazy metabolism and did not back down easily. He was stubborn as a mule in that regard. Without another word, Jun quickly made his way to one of the street stalls while Rei caught up. "Dear Lord what have I done?"

Nakano Nagi

Oh, for fuck's sake. She recognized the voice before the figure emerged from the brush. Nagi visibly relaxed, taking another swig of beer as she shot Sakiko a casual wave.

"Yo, Kiki. Shit, you get lost or something? Picked this spot because I figured no one'd be bored enough to come up this way." She sighed, but nevertheless beckoned her friend over, pulling out some assorted snacks from her bag.

"You want a beer? If not, I got drinking snacks anyway. Honestly, shouldn't be surprised your ass is up here." Nagi leaned back against a large stone in the clearing, looking up at the sky. "Meteor should be in like, what, an hour? Half? Can chill with me if you want. Just call if you see any dipshits come, I'll deal with it the usual way."

"Eat shit, asswipe!" Nagi bellowed in the bully's face before ramming her forehead into it, sending the boy crashing to the ground with a scream and a bloody nose. "Clench your fucking teeth, or I'm copping a murder charge!" She warned, giving him approximately two seconds to process it and piss himself before punting his prone form in the jaw, knocking him out. With that done, she turned to the schoolgirl that had been with him, cracking her knuckles as she stalked forward.

"And you ain't getting away, either. C'mere."
Before the girl could stop screaming at how violently her boyfriend was dispatched, Nagi was on her. A single punch to the gut caused her to fold, falling to the ground and clenching her chest, sobbing. "Clean this shit up when you're done." Nagi spat, gesturing to the boy as the shit in question. "God, who gets their boyfriend to try to fuck with someone they don't like? Fatherless behavior." And who said yes to it? The shit some dudes did for pussy, really.

With that done, Nagi stepped over towards the girl they'd been harassing, offering a grunt and a hand up.

"Here, c'mon. Ishida, right? They pull this again, I start breaking bones next time."

Saito Fudo

Saito stood at the entrance of Niyama Town’s central park, the warm glow of lanterns illuminating the festival grounds in soft, golden light. The air was alive with excitement, the air carrying the laughter of children and the faint smell of roasted food from the nearby stalls. Saito’s eyes scanned the sky, waiting for the first meteor to streak across the sky. The annual Shooting Star Festival had always been a special time for him and Nami, a rare moment to relax and enjoy each other's company outside of their busy lives. Beside him, Nami walked beside him, her face brimming with excitement “Do you think we’ll see a lot this year?” she asked her older brother

Saito gave her a soft smile and replied. "I think we will. They say the meteor shower will be stronger this year, so we might get lucky." His voice was calm, but there was a quiet excitement behind it. He had been looking forward to this evening too, not just for the stars, but for the simple joy of spending time with his sister. Moments like these reminded him how important it was to slow down and enjoy the present. With their parents away once again, he felt a deeper responsibility to make sure Nami had good memories she could hold on to, and the festival was the perfect place to create them. As they walked further into the festivities, Saito made sure to stick close to her, his protective instincts kicking in even as they walked through the lively crowd.

Finding a spot on a grassy hill overlooking the festival, Saito laid out the blanket they had brought with them. The two sat down, the noise of the festival below dimming as they focused on the night sky. Nami leaned against him, her head resting on his shoulder as she looked up at the stars. "I'm glad we came," she said softly. Saito nodded, his gaze fixed upward as well. "Me too," he replied quietly. The two of them would patiently wait for the shower to begin

The festival was as lively as ever– the energy was infectious and as soon as Asami finished with her initial snacks, it was on to games. There were all manner of games and most of them had a prize for the first and second place winners. While she wasn’t overly competitive, seeing everyone trying their best put a smile on her face. She wandered up to a small inflatable pool and approached the game runner to purchase a ticket and a small plastic wand. At the center of the wand was a thin piece of paper and the aim of the game was to fish a fake fish out of the kid-pool without tearing the piece of paper. It was truly a game of patience and skill but as Asami knelt down to play, a small child beside her gave a dramatic huff and waved her wand about in a tantrum. The paper had been split and so the fish she managed to scoop onto it got away– no win, no prize. The blonde gave a soft laugh before handing her wand over to the little girl. Scooting a little closer, Asami held her hand out for the child’s broken scoop and dipped it into the water.

“Look closely now, okay? It’s a dance between patience and concentration– if you leave it in the water for TOO long, the paper will soak through and split as soon as the fish ends up on it but if you scoop too FAST then it’ll tear before you’ve had a chance to catch anything. Wait for the perfect opportunity, have faith in yourself and keep your head up. I know you’ve got this!” Asami looked over at the girl and gave a confident nod. “Give it a try just like this now,” She demonstrated again. Though it was with the broken scoop, the child felt a little more at ease with someone showing her exactly how the game was meant to be played.

“Eeeeeeasy now…you’ve got it….” Asami held her breath and drew in closer and closer with great anticipation. “That’s it…now…lift it and– YESSSSSS~!!!!!” She cheered emphatically for the child who couldn’t keep her own joy under containment and flung the wand about. The toy fish went sailing off into the great unknown but the game attendant had been watching so the victory was substantiated. “Keep that up and the stall will run out of prizes in no time.” A cheeky, bright grin spread across Asami’s face and the child followed suit.

She was going to be an absolute menace.

“Hey, miss. Will you play with us?”

Asami turned around to see two children approaching her with chalk and stones in hand. Curiosity got the better of her and she cocked her head.

“I’mmmm listening– what sort of game did you have in mind?”

The children looked at each other and their timid expressions brightened. They’d felt comfortable asking Asami to play with them given how patient she’d been with the other kid at the fishing game and in truth, Asami enjoyed indulging in the playful spirits of children. They were only young for so long– they had to make the most of it!

“Well we were playing hop-scotch b-but if you want to play something else then we can–”

“I love hop-scotch!”

Their innocent expressions beamed brighter than the festival lanterns beginning to light up around them. The sky was turning darker and darker which meant the star could start falling at any moment. Still, Asami wasn’t one to betray her word and ONE game of hop-scotch couldn’t last THAT long…could it?

Following the children as they led her by her hand, practically yanking her off balance in their excitement, Asami stood in line behind the other two and let them go first. The rhythmic drumming of the Odori dance had her rhythmically swaying and clapping to the beat while the kids tossed their stones and hopped to retrieve them before bringing them back. When it was Asami’s turn to toss her stone, she made sure to give it a good toss and watched it skip, tumble, and roll to a stop far away. The kids erupted in a loud peal of laughter for they were absolutely certain no one could make the trip forward AND back.

“Stand back and watch a master at work~” Asami puffed out her chest and began her precarious journey one hop at a time.

Hop. Hop. Hop.

She was making significant progress and the kids hurried alongside her with widened eyes– she was really doing it! Asami bent down to retrieve her stone when…suddenly something hit her from behind and sent her sprawling. She landed with an audible ‘oof’ and propped herself up on her hands to glance back and see what the hell had run into her. The thing that had run into her, or rather the PERSON that had run into her, quickly clambered off and started rattling off an apology before Asami could say anything. She really did seem quite sorry which earned a reassuring wave from the sacked blonde.

“D-Don’t worry about it. I’m not hurt and if neither are you then it’s alright,” She looked down at her kimono which now had chalk marks and a little debris dirtying the front from the accidental knockdown with a frown. At least it hadn’t been muddy or anything– THAT would have been a disaster. “Mayyyybe try being a little more careful around here though. There are children running around everywhere and little hop-scotch fiends like THESE two.” Asami stuck her tongue out at the two who hovered around them; their faces were wrought with worry but quickly turned into impish grins when the girl referenced them.

“A win is a win! I concede to your impressive talents,” Asami got up with a groan and sighed deeply before reaching up to her hair and removed the glittering sun clip she’d purchased earlier that night and handed it over to them. “Next time you won’t be so lucky though.” Her bright blue eyes narrowed at them but the smile on her face never faltered.

One of the children reached out to take the clip and peered through its semi-translucent, glitter-filled resin before running off holding it aloft like it was a long lost treasure now found. Asami couldn’t help but laugh while watching the kids weave their way through the crowds to find their parents and brag about their ill-gotten gains. It was at this time that she turned back to the stranger that had practically tackled her and pointed up to the darkened sky above.

“The stars should start falling soon if you’re here for that. I’m going to find a decent vantage point to watch it from– it’s a little too bright down here for me. You’re more than welcome to come along unless you have other plans. Either way,” Asami stuck out her hand to the girl with a warm smile for a cordial handshake. “No hard feelings?”

Rachel saw the kids and she bowed to them. "Again, I'm sorry! I'm just excited for the Shooting Stars to start raining down!"
Rachel replied, sincerity in her voice, before getting up and brushing the dust off of her Jacket. "Thats what this festival is here for, is it not?" She asked with a closed eye smile.

"Name's Rachel! I'd love to go watch the show with you!"
She then retracted her hand before speaking up.

"You vastly underestimate my ability to not want to deal with the outsiders invading our humble abode!" The loud ginger let out a deep laugh that might've annoyed anyone else, but Nagi was not just anyone else. She understood how Sakiko was. Her loudness was a night companion with the crudeness Nagi frequently displayed. She kinda owed a lot of the reason how she survived this long to Nagi's aggressive ways. Back when they were younger, Sakiko found herself in the unfortunate situation with a few kids that didn't like what she said to them and they decided to make that point clear by testing the endurance of her face with their fist.

Oh what fun that was! Suffice to say, a beautiful friendship of understanding and mutual reliance on each other was formed.

"And no, I didn't get lost. Like I mentioned, I just took an alternative route because my main one got away from me." In simpler terms, yes the explorer got lost but whether Nagi knew that with all certainty or not wouldn't matter because a good explorer never admits when they got lost.

Kiki casually, though maybe not with the most grace, slid herself across the gravel, her feet dragging so the sound of the dirt scraping against the soles of her hiking boots filled the silence in the air. There was a distance ambiance of the festival happening in town. Kiki saw it, the fireworks, the subtle hint of decorations on the rooftops, and of course, the unwavering joy and laughter emitting from the townspeople and those who were here to see the biyearly event.

"But yes, I will take a beer. I've got some snacks too. Actual food too...well, my aunt wouldn't call my wasabi chips food. You know she doesn't like it? Says it stings too much...--" Kiki went on for another ten seconds and whipped her backpack around and opened up the zipper and pulled out the food. There were two bags of chips, some candy bars, and a thing of cookies. "My aunt made the cookies. Supposed to be some American flavor...or something. Like brown sugar and honey? I haven't tried them but you can help yourself." She shrugged and opened up the wasabi-flavored chips and began munching on them and her face expressed a sour reaction to them but she went for more.

After a few more chips and a few more sour expressions, she set the bag down in her backpack and looked up at the sky. It was a darker blue but painted with the warm colors of red and violet and orange and magenta. She smiled and turned to her friend next to her, "By the way, Nagi, have you ever wondered what's up with the meteor showers that we get here? I mean, it doesn't seem odd that out of all places in Japan, it's in our town that it happens and even we get so many tourists. Doesn't that seem weird? She asked her friend.

"Tonight is made to be a night to remember"
Yukimura commented, as he dodged some kids running around. The place was alive in a way that contrasts how the days usually went in this town. The dances were a sight, and even managed to do a few steps by himself, but tried to hide it. So, going around, he saw a ring tossing game and decided to go give it a try, putting the money on the counter.

"Good luck"

"Gotta step up" He said, calmly, scanning the prizes. Taking one of the rings and rolling his wrist, he saw what there was in there. Some candy, dolls... Oh, a hand made shooting star necklace. Nice.

"Ready, aim, fire" His throw cut through the air and he hit the block dead on, spinning a bit before settling in, giving a bow. Even if it's hard to tell, his eyes showed a twinkle in his eye.
"Thank you" He said, taking his prize and putting it on. Looks cool.

"Always showing off, Yugure"

"Shinji" Yukimura said, as a taller boy with spiky hair approached him. A hand was raised and fists bumped. Shinji was carrying a ball.

"Came to wish for luck?"

"Just for eyes on the team. I'll handle the rest" The ball went for Yuki, who stopped it and passed back.

"Still that cocky?" Pass.

"No guts, no glory" Pass.

"Still, you think you can do it" Pass.

"Got a few promises to keep, so it's not a question to ask" Tap. Tap. Knee. Header.

"So, gonna make the whole island know your name?" Rabona.

"More like the whole country" Heel.

"Having you say that stuff so deadpan is something" Shinji commented. "But that makes it fun" He passed back, and Yukimura curled the ball. Shinji misread it and the ball went off course. Both boys ran to apologize.

Nakano Nagi

She stuffed the last of her takoyaki into her mouth and washed it down with the rest of her current beer, belching slightly before starting to speak.

"Oh yeah, an alternative route. Bitch, we call that cope." Nagi passed another can over to Sakiko with a slight grin, taking some cookies in recompense and cracking a second beer open for herself. An experimental nibble on one cookie had her biting into it for real shortly after. Man, Western snacks were nice. This brown sugar shit was great! Nagi's judgement was given via thumbs up to her friend before she gulped down some more Sapporo, listening to the other girl speak.

"I think everyone in town's wondered why some space rock decided this shithole was special for some reason." Nagi replied dryly, following Kiki's gaze up towards the setting sun. Not much longer until the meteor shower started. "You want me to take my best guess at it, some government bullshit, probably. Get Dad drunk enough, he'll start going on about how the feds are after his ass." Which, you know, was because they fucking were. Because he and the boys were an obvious loophole around the national anti-yakuza laws, thanks to being too small in number to technically qualify. Wasn't as if this podunk town in the middle of nowhere needed more than two dozen guys to keep the clan going, anyway.

"By the way, he ever asks, we weren't drinking these beers. You didn't see any, I didn't fuckin' have them. Got it?" She shot Sakiko a serious look for a moment before going back to reclining. "How about you? That old hag of an aunt still giving you a hard time?"

Nagi scowled at the thought. To say she didn't get along well with Sakiko's aunt was generous. Sure, the bitch already had it out for her because the flower shop was one of the businesses the clan collected protection money from. News flash to her, so was damn near every other business in town. Suck it up and quit whining. Besides, it wasn't as if Nagi had anything to do with any of that shit. God knew her dad and the boys wouldn't let her in the first place. So she was getting shit she didn't and couldn't even do pinned on her. Story of her fucking life, really.

Didn't change the fact that Kiki's aunt could jump down a hole and die for all Nagi cared, though.

Just how long has it been, since she found herself all alone in this world? Kyoko walked down the street, her eyes staring at the ground while she thought about this. Ever since she first started school, it felt like all of the others were against her. Even if she did manage to gain a friend or two, they would abandon her after a while. Kyoko remembered the day when her last friend left her. It was in kindergarten, and Kyoko had just gotten first place in a spelling bee.

Her rival in the contest was a girl with short blonde hair and blue eyes. She was her best friend, and they both had a desire to win this thing. Unfortunately for Kyoko's opponent, she had spelled one word wrong, and Kyoko took that chance to spell it out correctly, before making a small side comment about how she can be quite dumb sometimes. It was after the contest that Kyoko found her friend crying on the playground. She asked what was wrong, and even tried to put a hand on her friend, only for it to be slapped away.

"This was the last straw! How can you not understand that words can in fact hurt others?! You always said something rude whenever someone made a mistake! People have asked me to be your friend, to try and make you better, but I see now that it's impossible! Goodbye!" The girl stormed off, leaving Kyoko all alone, heartbroken. Those words have stayed with her since, yet she still couldn't understand what got her friend upset. She was just stating facts, wasn't she?

She looked ahead and saw two people chatting, one of them had two kids with them, and her back was facing towards her. The other seemed very familiar, with blonde hair and blue eyes. The girl immediately saw her and started to run away, leaving the other girl with the two kids behind. Kyoko ran after the girl who ran off, because she just had to know.
Kyoko would lose sight of her, and sigh. "Was she...." Kyoko did not get to finish that sentence.

Rachel had seen a person she recognized, and had to immediately run off, leaving Asami behind. Rachel wondered what the hell brought the worst girl in existence to the festival. Rachel looked back to see Kyoko running after her. Rachel knew that running would be pointless, thus she ran into a tight crowd of people, and in doing so, Kyoko would lose sight of her. Rachel however knew she wouldn't leave things unsettled like this. Kyoko turned away, and this gave Rachel a opportune time to strike.

Rachel swiftly ran out of the crowd, and tackled Kyoko to the ground. Rachel was on top of Kyoko, and she had her by the shirt collar with her left hand, and her right hand was ready to strike her. "Wait! I'm not here to cause trouble!" Kyoko replied, with fear in her voice. "You have five seconds to explain why I shouldn't punch you here and now!" Rachel replied, angrily. "I don't like getting hit!" Kyoko responded. Rachel opened her hand, showing she wasn't going to punch her, but then she slapped her.

Rachel got up off of Kyoko and dusted herself off, as Kyoko was rubbing her right face cheek and crying. "I told you not to hit me, you dumb broad!"
"That. That's why people dislike you." Rachel responded. "Have you considered maybe being a bit more sensitive to others feelings? That slap is nothing compared to the broken heart I had ever since that day."
"Broken heart?" Kyoko asked, out of curiosity.

Rachel sighed. "The Meteor Shower is going to happen soon. I'm going to find a good spot to observe it." She then held a hand out. "You want to come watch with me?"
Kyoko was surprised. "Even after all that... you want me to watch along with you?" "You're welcome to stay here and alone." Rachel replied. Kyoko took Rachel's hand and got back up.
"Thank you. Really. Does it mean we're friends again?" "Don't push it." Rachel replied.

Clearly she still had some anger remaining, but Rachel also was relieved that Kyoko would come join her. If there was anyone she wished to experience the event with, it was definitely her, someone who liked Rachel for herself. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!"

There was a lively spirit flowing through the festival and it was awe-inspiring. Something as remarkable as the reason it was being hosted. The Mayor of the small, yet thriving town of Niyama, his own name being what the town was named for: Mayor Kenji Hoshino was watching everyone, seeing the many faces of the foreigners and residents of Niyama alike. They were playing the many games that some of the volunteers helped organize, the food stands that were a blessing and, even though it was only from the bird's eye view he had, he could tell it was a financial success.

"Ah what a wonderful success this has become!" Kenji smiled proudly, admiring the success as he would munch on Takoyaki. "Think I'll have another one!" Kenji, with his assistant, left the platform as he walked down a small flight of stairs and would walk through the crowded streets of Niyama. The bustling street with stands on both sides was something could make even the stone cold of people smile with such a jovial grin. It was an infectious feeling taking in everything.

As he would find himself near the Takoyaki stand, there was a comotion going on that took his immediate attention.

"Kenji, I wouldn't--" His asstiant, a guy with a rather musuclar appearance, tried to stop Kenji but he knew the mayor couldn't help himself.

"What seems to be the problem?" The man from behind them asked. He saw two kids in very elaborate and elegantly-designed yukatas. He couldn't be sure if they were both girls. They sure looked alike enough, but alas he turned his attention to the irate owner of the Takoyaki stand.

"These two brats don't have enough to pay!" The man spat into existance, glaring at both the two girls (?).

"How much are they short--" Remembering his manners, Kenji coughed and looked at both of them. "I mean, how much are you short? If it's not much, then I'm sure Mr. Takahashi would be more than willing to let it slide, especially considering his gambling debt!" He looked back at Takahashi, who was sweating bullets. "Why don't I just cover what they owe plus an order for myself as well? And an extra set for the kiddos," Kenji said, his deep brown eyes looking at the kids with a smile. "After all, it's a festival. We can't let any petty greed ruin the mood or enjoyment for everyone."

The Takoyaki stand owner muttered something under a breath as he would put three orders of takoyaki on the open flame grill.

"So why don't you tell me your names!"

If there was ever a choice, Sakiko's first choice of alcohol beverages wouldn't be beer. She liked her alcohol sweet and beer was hardly that, but she was dying of thirst so she took a few sips as Nagi started to talk. She was nodding animatedly as Nagi implied the government was behind the showers. She didn't have any better guess, but it made sense why a lot of scientists would show up. Maybe they were here to spy on the small town residents of Niyama Town. Maybe Mayor Hoshino was in on it?

There were so many different possibilities that Kiki could spend hours trying to think of, but none of those seemed as plausible as the government being behind it. If she could figure out another one that made more sense, she'd tell Nagi immediately. Instead, she let out a rather loud, deep, and if she was honest, burning blech that came deep from her soul. After the feeling expired, she simply said "excuse me" with a laugh that burned.

When Nagi asked about her aunt, Kiki was mid-chomp on one of her chips. She finished that bite and swallowed it, but immediately felt the unique burning of wasabi flavor and the remaining feeling of beer in her mouth and regretted it. "My..aunt.." She coughed and took another sip of beer. "..she's okay. She's only annoying when I want to have fun. For some reason, she's against me going exploring." Kiki huffed an annoyed huff, knowing full well that it was likely due to how her own parents haven't been seen in a while. Hell, she literally got lost trying to find her way through the mountain path that she has explored countless times. "I don't get her sometimes. She knows what I'm like. And I always come back. I only got lost for three days once, but she never lets me live it down. You'lre gonna get lost again, Sakiko. Why can't you dress like a girl, Sakiko. Stop eating those wasabi chips, Sakiko!" Out of frustration, she took another chip and aggressively bit into it. "Parents and parental figures need to get a grip sometimes!"

Nakano Nagi

Nagi snickered at Kiki's burp, matching it with an equally grotesque one of her own after a moment.

"To be fair," She started after, killing her second beer in the meantime and tucking the can away. "We were all pretty fuckin' worried when you pulled that shit. Old man was two steps away from getting the boys to comb the local area for you since he knew we're friends. And speaking of parents not having their shit together..." Nagi scowled, recent conversations and arguments going through her mind before she shook it off.

"Never mind. It's Dad's own business. Too bad your aunt hates him and the boys. Getting both of them laid'd solve a lot of problems. Plus that'd make us step...cousins? Yeah, that. Oh, well. Pipe dreams." She looked into her pack, debating going for a third beer right this second. Nah. Kiki might want another one, even as much as it looked like she didn't like beer. Shit, she should've bummed some Strong Zero off someone in the clan.

"While we're on pipe dreams, you got any idea what you wanna do once we're done with high school? Dad'd probably kill me if I don't go to university at this point. Still tenth in the class rankings, so I got a decent chance at getting in somewhere good as long as they don't dig too deep into anything past my entrance exams. Thinking about disappearing into the big city for that. Sapporo or Tokyo or some shit. Hell, maybe Osaka, my old man's from there." Of course, there was the fact that running off to Tokyo was exactly what that fucking bitch did...

"I had a feeling this was going to happen." Rei grumbled to herself. It mattered not how many yatai the duo visited, Jun was practically a black hole that wished to try everything the festival had to offer. From Yakisoba to Ikayaki and now Yakitori, Jun was draining Rei's pocket money faster than she wanted to admit. Honestly, it boggled Rei's mind that her brother could eat so much and not develop a stomachache. Even moreso that he never seemed to gain. Of course, Jun was not done yet. Once he finished his Yakitori, he quickly made his way to a yatai selling Takoyaki and placed an order. "Jeez, Jun! Slow down!"
When Rei had gone to pay for the Takoyaki, she realized too late that she was short a few yen. "Sorry sir, it was my treat and I didn't realize that I was running short."
Understandably, to some extent, the owner was not too happy to hear about the lack of funds and more or less started swearing at the siblings. Before Rei could pull Jun away from the yatai, they were approached by another man asking about the commotion. Rei quickly recognized the mayor of this small town as he diffused the situation and even placed three more orders of Takoyaki. It seemed the man giving them grief had debts, but he begrudgingly set about making three more orders. Meanwhile, Rei and Jun turned to face the mayor, giving a slight bow . "
Thank you sir. I'm Rei, this is Jun. My twin."

"Well, that sucked" Yukimura commented, after recovering the ball and apologizing .to a woman they hit with the ball. But with all that, they had to move away.

"At least we kept the ball" Shinji said, taking some taiyaki he bought mid apology. Yukimura shook his head. Of course this guy gets distracted from a problem by food. He was used to it, but it's still not funny to be in the mess alone.

"Next time, I am twisting your legs" The thing with dealing with him, is that knowing when it is a joke or he means it is a challenge, and Shinji didn't want to try his luck.

"Hey, easy, man" Shinji said, slightly backing down, but he still laughed. Even in these moments, this guy can get a laugh.

"You got someone to meet, don't you?"

"Yup, so you gonna make that wish"

"Yep, let's make everyone watch us" Yukimura raised an arm, and they both bumped arms, with even the seemingly blank face showed a small smile.

And with that, they both parted, and saw a rather odd scene, with all the yelling.

"The comedy act was in another place this year?"

Sakiko usually had a lot to say about anything, especially when spoken to her, yet she found herself rendered almost speechless when Nagi confessed that her father almost went out of his way to find her when she hadn’t come back. She didn’t know what to do with that information. Her habits of going exploring and sometimes losing her way was just as common as Kiki finding an alternate route back, but there were times where she couldn’t find that alternate route and was lucky to find her way back to the main road that led home.

Maybe that was the problem. Sakiko professed she knew the roads and alternate trails, but when it was dark, those trails might as well be invisible and she always relied on her memory. Luck would only get her so far.

Silence didn’t last long because Nagi suggested somehow getting her dad and Kiki’s aunt together. She couldn’t control the giggle. Just the idea of her aunt going anywhere near Mr. Nakano was hilarious to her because Nagi was right - they would be step-cousins if somehow they hit it off. “Maybe she does need to get laid,” Sakiko agreed, laughing for a moment.

She finished off the rest of the wasabi chips, staring at the sky starting to get a bit darker. It went from the warm hues of sunset to closer and closer to the navy and sea of white specs. In her mind, she knew the shooting stars would be coming any second now. It wouldn’t come before Nagi asked her every exit interview known to man, woman, child, and dog.

“What do you want to do after high school?”

Funny thing is that Kiki knew exactly what she wanted. She’s known the answer to that question for a few years now.

“I want to travel!” She proclaimed, standing up on the stump she was sitting on. As a declaration of her conviction, she pointed to the sky with the half-eaten wasabi chip in her hand. “I want to see the world. I want to go to America, I want to travel to Australia and Asia. I want to even see what the Middle East is like--” She paused, knowing full well it might as well be a dream and nothing more, but she had a spark in her eye and she looked at Nagi. “My parents did it. They explored many places, wrote about their adventures, and published their findings. I want to do that too.” It’s how she felt close to them.

There was an undeniable sense of wonder in Sakiko’s eyes and she was every bit adamant about that as she was understanding of the realistic side of that coin. She knew that she would have to hunker down in her studies to make her dream come true and she would. She’ll do all of that. Nothing will stop her but something that she didn’t see coming.

“I know you’ll get into a great university, Nagi. I’ll help you study…or maybe we can see if someone with better marks can help us both study.” She laughed, owning up to the fact that academics was not her best area of expertise. As much as she likes to think she’s doing okay, compared to some others, Sakiko is nothing but a few licks above average.

Her eyes then flew to the sky, something moving across it. “Ooooh! It’s finally starting!” Like the ADHD-ridden girl she is, Sakiko’s attention went from the realistic aspect of her small town life to the wonders of something bigger than her. She held her phone out to film it.

The Mayor examined the twins and made sure to do so with as much seriousness as the mayor could sometimes lack when it really mattered. The two looked just about as old as his son was. There was no doubt they were his classmates. Being around the same age, he found himself being compassionate with them as he would his own son.

“Nice to meet you, Rei and Jun. My name’s Kenji!” He would smile at them, hoping they weren’t too traumatized by the takoyaki vendor. They didn’t seem like it, though Jun seemed more bothered by not having enough than he did with anything else.

“I must return to my post up there, but enjoy the rest of the festival. The meteor shower should happen anytime so be sure to get to a good spot so you don’t miss it!”

Somewhere outside of Niyama Town
Asahi always had an issue with crowds. He had an issue with loud noise, but the presence of festivities always reminded him how one thing could always go wrong, how something that could be just so normal could de-escalate into pure chaos. His life really hasn’t been normal in a long time. Not when his father became mayor two years ago and certainly not since his mother was killed in a car crash.

No, Asahi hasn’t experienced normal in some time.

He was on an elevated platform just on the edge of town. He wasn’t quite on the outskirts but he could see the town in which he grew up in. The skies were getting darker and the ability to see the main path was getting less and less clear. He was about ten feet away from the ground but on solid ground. He sat on the edge of a cliff, his legs dangling off the edge and he could see his father leaving two people who had takoyaki in their hands. He heard laughter and people having a blast. There was a blonde somewhere in the middle of the festivities engaging with the many games. He saw so many people he knew on a personal level and just in passing enjoy themselves.

And then there was him, earbuds in his ear drowning out the noise with rock music playing so loud he might go deaf one day if he continued like that. Asahi’s name was a reminder there was light at the end of the tunnel, but he couldn’t see it. He had his blinders on and felt the overwhelming urge to…maybe see if he could make the jump.

Instead, he wrote those thoughts in his journal.

There’s nothing going on in this town that makes me happy. I’m trying to smile for father’s sake, but the more he tries to connect the less I want to receive that. I know I’m making it hard for him, so I just have to keep pushing. But is it worth it? The meteor shower is starting soon, but I can’t bring myself to be excited for it.

But I’ll try. It’s what I have to do. It’s what I want to try to do.

Asahi managed to find some comfort in not just the larger-than-life meteor shower that was starting to begin, but also that he couldn’t control everything around him. He knew he had to live with that fact, but sometimes…just sometimes he wished he could make this pain go away.

It was 8:30pm in Niyama Town. The excitement and music from the festival had died down as the blue in the sky had faded. Everyone who wanted to capture the moment had their phones and cameras, or simply be in the moment. Everyone who might’ve gotten mad at each other for things that happened at the many games, those who had beef with each other, those who hated the tourists — it all was pushed to the side for the display of something that was larger than them.

As the dozen of meteors danced around the sky, covering the warm hues of the evening sky with animated stars with a trail of gold behind them. There was always something magical about them so far north in Japan, so the stars were clearer in the sky. Every building in the small town of Niyama were shut off so the only source of light was the display of magnificence above.

To everyone else, it was as it had been every Summer Solstace: a yearly display of something that everyone can simply enjoy, but for nine people spread across the town and the surrounding area, something else was happening.

Technology and events in the sky always had a funny way of being connected to each other. Some technology would react to the electromagnetic waves give off from some parts of the sky. Such as the movie Frequency when a radio and the sighting of the Aurora Boralis would give a father and son the ability to talk with the same radio separated twenty-five years.

But this wasn’t the Frequency, but it wasn’t dissimilar either.

For the two girls who were watching the shower from a clearing outside of Niyama, talking about dreams, shared parental troubles, and hopes for the future. For the boy whose sister made him dress in a not-so-boy-friendly outfit that felt the comfort of a Mayor that diffused a situation with an unreasonably greedy Takoyaki vendor. For an American who opted to see the shower in the comfort of his apartment rather than enjoy the festivities. For the two girls, each with reason to dislike the other but chose to enjoy the festivities together. For the boy who wants to make his soccer team known to the world. For the boy who wanted to just watch the festivities from a grassy hill. For the son of the mayor who struggles to find balance within himself.

The tradition of the shower would be to make a wish and all the kids who would soon find themselves experiencing, together, an event that would tie them together, that wish would have a more profound and deeper meaning that anyone else in town making their own wish.

From the mountain clearing on the outskirts of Niyama town, Sakiko Ishido closed her eyes with her hands gripping her phone unknowingly and uttered the words “I wish…to be able to bravely see new places so that I can be stronger.”

From his own part of town away from all the buzz, a boy whose hope was lost long ago looked up at the sky and closed his eyes. “I want to wipe the sadness of my friends away so they don’t have to cry anymore and so i can be strong again.”

All of them would find their phones acting in a certain way. It would start with a series of flashes that imitated a technical glitch, like someone might be hacking the phone from the inside. Then there was static like that of old televisions when there wasn’t a signal. The noise would be evident and maybe even warrant investigation. After a minute of the audible and visible static, the phones will once again glitch but this time there is something more happening than just technological glitching and static.

Nine phones began to shine a brilliant light: orange, blue, red, green, purple, dark grey, yellow, pink, and lavender. These colors were first emitting their glow from the screens but after five seconds, they would cover the entire phone in a way that would be transformative. Each phone of each person would have lines across the back all seemingly originating from a circle at the center that seemed to be missing…something.

And before any of the nine kids could begin to process just exactly what happened, they disappeared in a flash. Or to be more accurate, their phones flashed that same color once more, but this time they were gone from wherever they were. It’s strange. Nobody would notice it because the flash was just noticeable to them and only to them. It’s like they were zapped out of thin air to a place they didn’t know would need them more than ever.

These nine were chosen for something greater than themselves.

They are The Chosen Ones. They are the Digidestined.

CHAPTER I: STRANGERS IN A STRANGE LAND BEGINS!

Niyama Town, Hokkaido Prefecture
Town Square

Having found his own corner to see the shooting stars, Yukimura looked up into the sky, clenching his fist, he knew what he was going to ask.

"May everyone watch me. It feels like our chance is on reach, so please, keep your eyes open"

Yukimura had his own dreams, beyond these mountains. But with all things in life, that one seemed like a distant fantasy of a kid. But he had his own crew, and giving up without giving his all was not something he was willing to accept. And his team is dedicated and stupid enough to follow him into his insanity. So, this is a chance he couldn't let pass.

So, one chance is all I need.

Wow, that got intense. He really could get worked up, who knew? Anyone else would consider that utterly bizarre, but go all in or don't.

Well, he did do what he came to do, so next, he'll find a place to change and...

"Hm...?" He noticed something amiss, as his phone started acting up, so he pulled it out. It was glowing and glitching weirdly. A strange blue light seemed to come from his phone, he looked at it confused. Did he break it by accident?

But it was getting worse, the entire thing was glowing, like it was going to transform into something else. That blank circle caught his eye, but before he could even get out a "What the...?", he was gone. As if the earth swallowed him.

Nakano Nagi

Traveling, huh? Yeah, that was about what she figured out of Kiki. Just like her, really. Hell at least she got the opportunity to take after her parents - no, no, bad Nagi. No resenting her friend for shit that was out of either of their control. It wasn't like Kiki was acting like that stuck up bitch with the glasses that picked the worst possible time to say anything about her dad or the clan. That one had deserved the punch she'd gotten.

"Help me study?" Nagi snorted. "Kiki, it's the other way around most of the time. Anyways, you wanna travel, you're gonna have to work on your English, at least. Dad's taken me out of the country a few times, it's a pain in the dick not knowing English abroad." She threw her hands up behind her head, leaning back into the grass as she stared up at the stars.

Once a year, every year. Make a wish. Whoop de fuckin' doo. Dreams? Hell, the only aspiration she'd cared about was impossible. Even if she could have, there wasn't exactly much of a future as a yakuza anyway. Her dad had drilled that into her head not long ago. In lieu of that, what the fuck else did she have? Nagi was good at more than a few things, but she didn't really have much chance to exercise them outside of her own personal shit. Karate club hadn't wanted anything to do with her after all the fighting incidents. That, and they were afraid to put hands on the "yakuza girl". Pussies. Technically, she was in the cooking club, but most of the members were scared shitless of her and she hadn't really gotten anything done there, so she'd stopped going.

The meteor started to streak across the sky. A sigh. Fine, might as well get this dumbass tradition out of the way.

A buzz from her phone. Nagi picked it up in one hand, reading the brief text from her dad as she uttered her wish.

Happy festival, kiddo. Make that wish a good one, y'hear?

"I wish...that I could just be me without being fucked with by everyone."

...God, where had that come from? Nagi hadn't really been thinking, and the words just flew out of her mouth. She didn't have much time to consider the matter, however, as her phone started to shine emerald green, causing her to squint from the light's intensity.

"Kiki, you seeing this shit-"

The clearing grew empty, with only two beer cans indicating anyone had ever been there.
